Title: Call me a cunt...
Post by: Ironside on Friday, February 22, 2013, 20:09:25
..if you really must, but...

But, what if PDC really was as loyall and comitted to seeing the task through as he says he was. What if he is helping unofficially to prepare the team for Saturday?

Obciously he has his reputation as a manager to keep and he has the numbers of everyone in the squad at his dosposal, does anyone think that he might, or might not be involved in the background on Saturday?

Just a thought...

He might take Ward/Millers call if its made, but I can't see it being any more than that.

No. I think he probably helped out for Tuesday's game so that he could say that he and his team left STFC at the top of the league. If we had gone top on Saturday, I would think that all of the Italians would have been gone on Monday.

Personally I think it more likely that the players are feeling like they are emerging from the rule of a dictatorship and arent rushing to have a chat with him.  Maybe trying to have a chat to other previous managers for any advice.

Its just a hunch.

I've got to say, this is the most retarded post I've read on here over the past week or so, and that really is saying something.

...You cunt.

I had the same thought earlier today. He might not like the old or new board but he must have had a bond with the players. Paolo even said the players have spoken to him since he left. I wouldn't doubt that he has had some input regarding tomorrow's game at all.

Think about it this way. If we do gain promotion this season, PDC will still get most of the credit. It's in his interest to pass on snippets of info.

Really?

I reckon I could probably find 100k more retarded posts than that and you'll have made at least one of them.

Anyway, my point was that although he's walked, will he not be in contact with the lads in the background, just to give a few pointers here and there?

I wouldn't be surprised.

Obviously the PDC haters are in their element to judge by the recent posts....

The politically opposed walked long ago..and only a couple have returned. The others took exception to PdC's post match interviews..and his perceived mistreatment of players. Not sure how they'll feel about Newell.

Reg , they have all returned in one form or another. They couldn't resist. Apart from Lumps. Even Mex will admit to going to Southend to support PDC.......oh wait......

From BBC Gossip:
Quote
Former Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio is considering going to Saturday's League One home match against Preston as a fan - to galvanise supporter backing for his return to the County Ground as manager.

Wouldn't surprise me if he did turn up but just can't see how he can return.

Didn't Maradona ask napoli fans to support him and not Italy during WC 1990? And then they roundly didn't.

If PDC is at the ground later it will feel like that to me. I support swindon, not Paolo Di Canio

I'd buy him a beer. I'd even have him back.

Still pissed off with him walking away, and not impressed with any side in the he said/she said squabbles in the press/twitter, but he got us where we are today. He can take us up.

Its just paper talk though.

I'd still have him back. The bloke's madder than a box of frogs, but our best chance of automatic promotion is with him. What's the old saying? 'Better the batshit mentalist you know....'

It is paper talk but it'd be a great twist to proceedings if he turned up to watch the match. Town's nothing but entertaining.

Would the Town End faithful hug him or lamp him after this week?

Title: Re: Call me a cunt...
Post by: janaage on Saturday, February 23, 2013, 08:19:19
Fans are fickle, him turning up in his own time would put him back in favour with the Town End faithful.

Don't think he's done much wrong this week. Personally I don't like the way he's gone without a final farewell, he's spent a lot, but achieved a lot. Like most things in life it's not the cheap option you want, sometimes you spend more than you'd like but if it's value for money it's money well spent, and PDC was definitely value for money.

I really hope that doesn't happen. It wouldn't be right and don't think it would necessarily have a positive effect on the team as all the focus would be on Di Canio (wouldn't he just hate that?  ::))

My guess is that if it was down to Di Canio, he may well do it but think Phil Spencer would talk some sense into him. Some times you just have to move on.

I would not necessarily describe taking the Club to a point where potentially, administration was a very real possibility as value for money.

Not Paolo's problem. He's here to do a job, which he did. If the board don't have the balls to control their manager that's a board issue.

Dennis Wise was exactly the same, he spent money like it was going out of fashion, on training, top class food even, and the board agreed to pick up the bill, when they should have had words.

But my point is, had things gone slightly differently i.e. had Andrew Black been somewhat more belligerent and said 'fuck the Club, I want my money', we could now be looking at a 30 point deduction or maybe even expulsion from the League. I can't see how that equates to 'value for money'.

Yes, as fans we had a great time and loved every minute of it but would it have all been worth it if we had ended up in the Evostik League South Western Division playing local derbies against Supermarine and Hungerford? Would that have represented good value for money? It could have happened.

How exactly is that Paolo`s problem?

Of course not OST that's my point over value for money. If you invest in a fund with a charge of 2% but returns are 10% well that's better than a fund with a 0.5% cost which only returns 3%.

Either by luck or sheer hard work Di Canio got results, our problem, like a lot of clubs is when you rely on one 'money man' when he wants out you have to hope you can find a buyer. Chelsea (on a different level) are in the same boat.

If we'd ended up bottom half L2 or worse then clearly that would not have been vfm.

I should caveat the above to say excluding all other factors fund wise, otherwise Sam will come on here talking about volatilty etc.

What, spending Black`s money without anyone's knowledge? I'm sure you're not stupid enough to believe that?

Yeah but what's the standard deviation and sharpe ratio? Are we talking active or passive management?

Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. Fund values can go up as well as down etc. etc.

Clearly he wasn't doing it without anyone's knowledge but it seems his tendency to histrionics when not getting his own way may have influenced things in the Wray era. Patey is seen as the bogeyman but surely he was brought in to better protect Black's bank balance. Judging by Black's comments on twitter Patey did exactly what he was tasked with doing.

At this point I wouldn't be that bothered if he did or didn't come back. All I'm concerned about is that we move on past this and focus on the remainder of the football season.

Surely this should be aimed at Wray?  Every manager will want to spend every penny they are given. If you genuinely blame Paolo for "taking the Club to a point where potentially, administration was a very real possibility" then I am afraid I am obliged to call you an idiot.

That was not what I was saying. But I have arrived at the point where I just want to talk about the players on the pitch now so we'll just leave it at that.

Fair enough.  I don't think I've ever wanted something to work out as much I want Ward/Miller to work out.  3 points today would be amazing!

I think the problem, as far as Paolo sees it, is that they did try to control him. Black got rid of Wray and replaced him with Patey who clearly did exert his authority on Paolo. It was evident from the way that post-match interviews were toned down once Patey had been installed that Paolo had been spoken to. The picking on individual players stopped and he even started praising them rather than slating them.

Never a truer word spoken. Fans talk a lot of bollocks that they don't really mean...or not for very long anyway. If Paolo is there today he'll be a hero again.

I think he acted like a spoilt kid when he quit but if came back to watch as a fan I'd be back up his arsehole too.....

I think it applies equally to all involved but ultimately reflects very poorly on Black.

In his therapy session where Twitter represented a nice leather couch, he basically revealed that he made half-hearted attempts to curb the spending but he was never heeded. You can't blame Paolo entirely for spending the money if it was there but in reality it just shows what a mess the club was behind the scenes despite us all thinking we were as stable as we'd ever been.
