Title: Xbox 360 question
Post by: donkey on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, 17:32:08
I think I know the answer to this, but just to check...

I have found an Xbox 360 to replace my broken one.  I have never bothered with Xbox live, and won't bother.  Does that matter? If I get a new one do I need to connect to the Internet, and if I do will it matter that I don't have an Xbox live account?

I hope that makes sense?!

You dont have to pay for an xbox live account. You will automatically have an xbox live silver account if you sign up. This mean you can still download demos and DLC for games etc. It just means you cant play online game modes or chat to people on the headset.

The only thing which makes no sense is why you wouldn't bother having xbox live.  Thats the main reason for owning the console imo.

Why? I've had an Xbox for years, never had Xbox live, but then I'm a casual gamer. Perhaps Donkey is as well?

Ok. So if I buy a new one, switch on, it can sort itself out? Cheers iob.

This is true.

Not when it costs 40 squid a year it isnt. PS3 is all free for online gaming and offers everything XBL does.

You still have to create an account but its free for silver. You dont actually have to go online though if that makes sense and you'll only be asked to create an account if you want to connect to the net.

That's just the answer I was looking for. Cheers Bhaji.

Beg to differ.

Have both a ps3 and xbox online.

PS3 games generally have more connection issues

PS3 had all those problems with secure player data

Most online content comes on xbox before ps3.

Much easier to join a mates game on xbox over ps3.

The list goes on.  I'm sure sony could get their online gaming facilities better if there was a montly subscription.  But for now, xbox easily out trumps ps3 in the online department

Each to their own. I did enjoy the party chat facility when i had it but there is no difference in the online gaming. In fact you dont messages from mongs when you beat them on fifa. Thats another reason i gave up with it. To be honest in my opinion you are better off saving the cash and using it to buy an extra game every year.

I love a good abuse message on Xbox Live,

Last year I had a message saying I only beat him "cause my team was superior and I was obviously a gay cunt." I was Swindon and he was AFC Wimbledon.

Raised a chuckle.

I once got a voice message from some Northern kid saying he would find me and kill me.

It's not so much the abuse messages that annoy me. It's the people that try to glitch games when losing to make you quit out so they win be default or the idiots that just quit out early. I don't seem to get that much on PS3. Probably because the gamers on there are in general older and more mature than the kids you get on XBL.

Was playing on my brother's xbox and I suddenly heard a large BANG, pretty sure it's a blown fuse. He's not going to be too happy when he gets back tomorrow..
