It was actually John Terry that made John Terry's position untenable.

Shame about Terry.....with his style of play and leadership he could have been one of the Greats of English football when looking back in years to come.
Sadly unless you are a Chelsea fan then it wont be the case........for what it is worth i thought Rio Ferdiand was outstanding today and Suarez didn't get a sniff.

So when he went to the Euros he felt his position was untenable but still went but its untenalbe now.

Getting on a bit, World Cup 2 years away and well past his 'best', give the younger players a go and a fresh start for everyone involved! Terry is still a cunt though!

He could have made this announcement any time over the last few weeks, but has waited until just before the hearing. Clearly trying to influence proceedings through teh use of PR.

Apparantly his legal counsel have spent time since the high court verdict working on the FA trying to get them to cancel the hearing.

He knows he is going to be found guilty and subjected to a Saurez style ban.

By retiring he gets to tell his kids how he retired from International football, rather than he was banned for being a racist cunt!

That's because the FA are breaching their own rules in order to pursue the case. I don't think anyone is coming out of this unedifying saga smelling of roses tbh.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.  There was a time when he had the potential to be a great.  But his true colours showed, eventually, and he threw it away.  The FA didn't make his position untenable.  His racism did that.

In a statement the FA said: “An Independent Regulatory Commission has today [Thursday 27 September 2012] found a charge of misconduct against John Terry proven and has issued a suspension for a period of four matches and a fine of £220,000, pending appeal.

“The Football Association charged Mr Terry on Friday 27 July 2012 with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards QPR’s Anton Ferdinand and which included a reference to colour and/or race contrary to FA Rule E3[2] in relation to the Queens Park Rangers FC versus Chelsea FC fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.

“The charge was the result of The FA’s long-standing investigation into this matter, which was placed on hold at the request of the Crown Prosecution Service and Mr Terry’s representatives pending the outcome of the criminal trial.

“A hearing took place from 24-27 September 2012 before an Independent Regulatory Commission of The FA to consider the charge.

“The decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission is as follows:

Mr Terry be suspended from all domestic club football until such time as Chelsea’s First Team have completed four competitive matches

Fined the sum of £220,000

“The Independent Regulatory Commission will provide written reasons for its decision in due course. Mr Terry has the right to appeal the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission to an Appeal Board. An appeal must be lodged within 14 days from receipt of the written reasons for the decision.

“The penalty is suspended until after the outcome of any appeal, or the time for appealing expires, or should Mr Terry decide not to appeal. The reason for this is to ensure that the penalty does not take effect before any appeal so that Mr Terry has an effective right of appeal.”

So if context doesn't matter had Anton Ferdinand said to one of his colleagues "John Terry just called me a Nigger" he'd presumably also have been fined? 

No, because as we know full well with the FA, precedent means absolutely nothing.
