Have not had a bet for ages but then Jump Racing is my bag rather than the flat.
Can't wait for the Jump's season to step up a gear as our company sponsor Wayne Hutchinson who rides for Alan King. He's a good bloke and a Town Fan to boot.
The yard have some nice youngsters for the new season, but keep your eye out for a horse called Handazan who could be very good.

Wayne Hutch is class. Should be Kings no 1, Choc has lost it since his injuries. Absolutely thick as fuck though.

A lot of people I have spoken to reckon the same and I have to agree that Hutch is the better jockey. He has also had his fair share of injuries as well. I remember the first season we sponsored him, he rang me in the first week to tell me that he had broken his leg in a fall at Ludlow.
This is our third season backing him and it certainly seems to work well for both of us. He gets a few quid, we pick up some business and I get to go racing.
I'm with you though, you have to be as thick as fuck to want to chuck yourself over a fence at 30mph on half a ton of racehorse...

Reasonable? I thought he ran like a drain, although he did give the second quite a belt so maybe that had something to do with it.

Favourite won that thing at a canter!  Did your thing get a place?

I had it in a £1 e/w lucky 15.  Got just over £90 back which is handy as pays for the Villa ticket and the NFL coming up in a few weeks.

Cracking stuff tomorrow. Any fancies? Think Excelebration is a banker and will be having a good plunge.

NTD's in the opener at Chelts today, might double up with Sea of Thunder

Title: Re: Horse Racing Thread
Post by: STFC4LIFE on Friday, October 19, 2012, 11:03:31
I've gone for NTD's in the first at Cheltenham as well as Domtaline in the second.

As for tomorrow, Opinion Poll in the first, Society Rock in the second and Sapphire in the third are my picks.
Excelebration and Frankel pick themselves, and will go for Highland Colari in the last race.
Should be a good day, very much looking forward to it.

King George tomorrow, a cracking line up it is too and difficult to pick the winner. I've had a look today in detail and my main selection is Riverside Theatre. A well priced e/w outsider imo is Captain Chris.

Title: Re: Horse Racing Thread
Post by: DMR on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, 20:40:28
Captain Chris won't stay imo, didnt last time. Cue Card the danger if he sees it out, but think Long Run will win.

Like Darlan and Saint Roque too.

Title: Re: Horse Racing Thread
Post by: bullethead on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, 12:15:47
Real tough one to call, think Cue Card will be close, Grand Crus on his day would be very hard to beat but been dodgy for a while now.
I'm going Long Run to win with places for Cue Card and The Giant Bolster but in fairness I know next to bugger all

Title: Re: Horse Racing Thread
Post by: Arriba on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, 12:43:45
Agree about Cue Card. If that breathing op has paid off then he could take it. For's and against's for most of the runners and plenty of potential winners.

A day in the stand for you by the looks of it. Nice pork rolls in there.

I like the look of ARBEO in the first race
PISTOL in the 13.00 but too short a price for me and I wouldn't back it myself.
13.35 I'll go for COLOUR SQUADRON
14.15 RAY NACARADO just but this is a real tough one imo. STATE BENEFIT could do well but i dismissed it due to the weight difference.
14.45 I'll be on EASTER DAY e/w(money back if placed at 4/1)as he's better value than TAQUIN DU SUIEL but Think the latter could have enough class for this. I just dont like short prices and always look for value.
15.15 AFRICAN GOLD
15.50 MY TENT OR YOURS should win but again too short a price for me so my main pick is CHATTERBOX.

Now i've put these up ignore them and hope DMR puts up some winners.

Will reinvest a bit of it on African Gold in the 3.15

2 bets, 2 wins, if only it was always that easy.

Bookies would have taken a little beating today, 5/1 was longest winner

How did you get on with your mate bill Hill yesterday afternoon   ;)

Bump. At Warwick tomorrow (The New One). Should imagine he'll be fav but should win. Finished ahead of Jezki and My Tent or Yours in the bumper which is looking rather useful...

Petite Georgia tomorrow evening at Wolver. Each way if prices allow.

WARNING: Those of you who do look at the form will note she made the running last time, she's drawn in the car park so they are going to have to drop her in and ride her for luck but she's fancied.

£1 E/W on Colbert Station, Harry The Viking, Sunnyhillboy and Treacle.
£5 win on On His Own.

Last year I bet on four, none of them finished and at least one of them died, so i'm not holding out much hope.

No bets today from me. Not enough has been done to improve the safety aspect for the horses.
Racing will always have casualties but having a race where it is highly likely to kill some I can't do anymore. I've had a look and nearly did bet but have to stick to my principles.

Aintree's loss is Tesco's gain Arriba.

£2 to win On His Own, I got a hot tip from a(nother) pissed up bloke in the kebab shop last night. He had more sauces than Levi Roots.

It's a given that at least one horse will die and that's the bit I struggle with.

Last year seeing Syncronised being shown the first fence by McCoy before the race and seeing it clearly didn't fancy it and then dying did it for me. The changes that should have been made have not been. If a horse doesn't die it will be a surprise not vice versa. For that reason I can't bet on the national anymore.
Seeing animals die for humans pleasure doesn't sit well with me.

I aint had a Aintree bet all week and would have won a bit if I had.

If Synchronised didnt fancy it why did he keep on jumping for another 10 fences after AP was off his back?

habit. Because it was trained to do so. That horse did not fancy it pre race, I'm convinced of that.

Presumably you have ACTUALLY watched racing in the past. Thus you will have season horses run out, stop, refuse, pull up, not enter the stalls, not come out the stalls, kick out, unship their jocket etc etc.

If you think you can get half a ton of equine muscle to do something it really doesn't want to, I reiterate, you are a fool.

Title: Re: Horse Racing Thread

No disputing that horses like running and jumping but do not think they enjoy running in the national. Watch the incident I'm refering to. Look at the horses behaviour when McCoy took him to the fence.
Say I'm wrong and the horse was having fun, it still died. Gold cup winning horse dead a few weeks after that victory.

Serious question.  If you took betting out of the equation, would anyone care about horse racing?  Does anyone care about winning for the sake of winning, as in other sports?  Or is it all about winning bets?

Yes, definitely. Take the likes of Frankel or Sprinter Sacre - absolutely unbackable at their prices, but you are desperate for them to win. I have favourite horses, jockeys, favourite races. It's a sport.

I have pretty much given up on the nags nowadays barring the odd occasion. Did my old fav Tidal bay e/w in the welsh national the other week but cant remember the time before that i bet on the horses. I tend to lose my money just on football now.

Tend to just follow jumps more, especially trainer Venetia Williams with Aiden Colman as main jockey. She had four winners on the bounce recently which helped and then basically nothing much since so my meagre winnings are being eaten into. As I do not bet big it is no problem and makes the Racing Channel more interesting.
