Ive tried to get optimistic about this one, and am looking forward to it, but I just cant help but feel we've got a hiding coming to us  :badmood: went to both the games last season and they were well up for it. was at preston on sunday and we were no where to be seen. Hope im wrong and PDC boogies on their pitch, we laugh and :smugfu: at them, and we can all go home and  easy!

It's a difficult one to predict after Sunday, plus we've got no idea what sort of side he'll put out. I'll go for a tight 2-1 win.

Quote from: PDC
I told my players that for me and for everybody, even though the six points Oxford got from us last year was enough for them to reach nothing, I don’t like to give this kind of charity.

Now THAT kind of noise from PDC I like!

Going to penalties today. We will win 5-4 after Constable's is saved.

Don't do predictions, but my 4 year old & 2 year old were both convinced this morning that we're going to win.

Honestly have no idea myself.  We could go down to a messy one goal defeat, or we could dismantle them.  The latter scenario is probably now overdue.

It would be ironic, wouldn't it.  He's pretty much the first manager I can remember to 'get' or demonstrate that he cares about a local derby.  But a defeat tonight would, almost certainly, give him the worst managerial record against them.  And I certainly don't aspire to playing them again any time soon.

I worked it out the other day that I have been to 24 Swindon vs Oxford games and never saw us lose, that includes 5 trips to the Manor that includes 16 wins.

I have never been to the Kebab stadium though.

When you say a classic, do you mean "a classic ding dong battle between two fairly evenly matched teams, the less talented of which is boosted by a desperate urge to win their cup final" or "A classic rodgering of the sort that will ensure Oxford's home kit features brown shorts next season" ?

I think my all time favourite trip to the Manor was this one, brilliant game with Shearer scoring a couple in a 4-2 victory.

Although I really enjoyed the game in 93 we won 1-0 at the Manor when England International Andy Gray was on loan to us from Spurs and seemed more interested in the Spurs score when it came up on the scoreboard during the game than he was in the actual game!

And the game in 93.

As for home games none can beat the game in 97 when we stuffed them 4-1 and Joey Bumchum started crying and was substituted.....happy days.

I have never, before or since, witnessed a more comprehensive and sustained battering of a player during a game of football.  The ref offered Beauchamp no protection at all.  It was open season.  Poor bastard couldn't work out what had hit him, or even where the next clatter was coming from.  I'm surprised he got to leave the field of play in one piece.

We did have a purple spell between 73 and 92 when we only lost only once (in 1982) encompassing 23 games. Since 92 we have 8 defeats 2 draws and 7 wins, pretty evenly spread.

PdC seems to only put a keeper on the bench when he's allowed 7 subs to choose from.

In the league this year the numbers of subs increased from 5 to 7 so PDC has started using a sub goalie

I think it's stipulated that one has to be a goalie. I may have dreamt that though.

Very happy to see Wes in goal tonight

Unless he pisses Paolo off again, which would be interesting as we don't have a sub keeper on the bench.

Paolo to rip off his suit and go in goal?

Not sure about 433 or whether Williams will play wide right in a 442.

Agreed. I'd be very surprised if De  Vita played in a midfield 3 with Miller , Bostock and Navarro sat out.

That is true.

I am surprised that we don't have a sub keeper but some of that comes from when Digby got sent off in the previous incarnation of this cup against Aldershot in 87 when we were 2-0 at the time and lost 3-2.

I always thought the mystery outfield player who could also hold their own in goal was Caddis or Risser, but maybe it's someone who's still here.....  McCormack? Ferry? Flint?

is Rooney in midfield?!

my father-in-law told me Di Canio had made the news here in Norway, you can see the article here (http://fotball.aftenposten.no/england/article249284.ece).

Unlikely to be Ferry IMO as hes a little bit short, Flint might be a good call though.

Rowland and Quinn were both used well as stand in keepers for us in the past so its feasible.

Very attacking line up with Williams Benson and A Rooney starting...a bit random that you can have 7 subs in the league but not in the JPT.

With Ritchie not playing I will have to change by prediction to...

2-0 Williams, Rooney

Title: Re: Oxford Vs Swindon Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 18:14:36

Either Rooney or Williams wide right, I think it will be Williams, unless we do go for 433 or even 424 all out :) its not Adam Rooneys natural position though out wide right but then it wasn't De Vitas natural position to play wide left and he has taken well to that role.

I would love us to win.

1. Because I always want Town to win.
2. So we take back the so called 'bragging rights' and hopefully not have to play them for a long time.

But, to me, this one stinks of a frustrating narrow/penalty shoot-out defeat.

i'm starting to feel as if this game is a bit of an unnecessary distraction to be honest

the league is what is important, not a pointless cup game against some pub team.

Behave.

This pub team have drilled us the last 3 times we've played. We need to get a win on the board.

Marvellous.  Another 6 months of listening to them bleating on about beating us again.  It's shite, but I'd rather have 3 points on Saturday tbh   and on the plus side at least it rules out one option of getting to Wembley again.

Exactly. Fuck Orient. I'd happily swap 3 pts on Saturday for a win tonight, then go out of this pub cup in the next round so we can concentrate on the League. But we should always want to beat them

Damn you and your blatent trashing of my coping strategy!

I'm off to have a little cry.

Personally, I think that is very, very disappointing. The JPT gave us a lot of joy last year. I would much rather have a long cup run than lose in the 1st round against local rivals.

Wish PDC hadn't bigged it up so much. Makes us look even worse.

Worried about the new signings not sounding that good.

One of my favourite past-times was striking up conversation with Oxford fans on the bus at 5.30pm on a Saturday.  Asking how they'd got on - knowing full well that they'd lost - and offering my commiserations.  Used to say I respected them for sticking with a side that was so obviously as shit as they were, and always got a smile back and an ironic roll of the eyes.

Aside from losing to them, the fact that their goal came from another defensive mistake is a slight concern.  Our defence has been solid until recently, why are we suddenly making stupid errors?  McCormack was lucky to get away with one in the first half as well.

At least it was only the JPT. Yes I'm pissed off they've somehow turned us over again but the game isn't going to hinder our league campaign like it may have done last season.

Once again PDC chucked in the newbies tonight and in Ward's case it was a gamble that didn't pay off. I really hope we see Ritchie and Roberts back soon. Our lack of options out wide have probably shown in the last few games. De Vita has been quality at times but there's not a lot else when the above 2 are missing.

Williams needs a goal pretty soon. He has been quality from what I have seen but he strikes me as a possible confidence player who may feed off goals. Hopefully Rooney is played upfront and not on the wing.

PDC:
- This is what happened last year
- Made a mistake and gave them opportunity to score and finish the game
- Coke needs to understand that we play with a higher tempo
- Performance wasn't perfect one
- Mistake showed the limitation of Flint
- Ward is a good professional but he has to improve on that
- Ritchie and Gary Roberts are 'crucial' for Town's attacking intent, although Roberts hasnt played yet
- Rooney worked hard playing out of position
- We had 40 chance and should have scored and they had one from a goal kick! Only 1 team should have won
- With cup gone then players need to be more patient, especially the ones who caused the exit. They shouldn't get angry, but need to work hard to improve
- Collins couldn't go to U21s because of a slight injury. PDC didnt want to risk Ritchie

(Sorry, but there was a lot I didn't understand)

Poor old Aden seems to get blamed for quite a bit by Di Canio.  Other than Aldershot away last season, I can't recall him making a major mistake.  Was he anymore to blame than Ward?

Sounded (from the wireless) like we were as stale as a piece of malt loaf stuck down Les Dennis' sofa.  While Oxford came with a plan, stuck to their guns and nicked it at the finish.

May only be the JPT but a real pisser not to set the record straight.  Not afraid to admit I'm fucked off about the result.

A few days to forget but I can see us being up and running on Saturday.  Orient always a tricky one but definately one where we can get a result.

If there were a suggestion box at STFC mine would be that perhaps PDC could keep his critisms of individuals strictly to the dressing room, can't see that it helps the team in the long run, anyway had enough of these issues this week.......

The ref wa a complete and utter cunt who gave us jack shirt all night. Should have a penalty for handball in the 2nd half and how the fuck did the bloke who took Williams out on the edge of the box in the 1st half escape yellow.
Bessone looks a good addition. Coke was half good, half shit. Ward was utter crap and made Ifill look like Messi. We managed to fuck up every chance we had and should have had the game out of sight before our keystone kops moment at the back.

This sums it all up nicely.

I cannot say it was a pen in the first half but no booking....cynical foul and nothing.....and the black lad miscontrolling the ball into his own arms and juggling with it...fuck me!!! Mind you we would of missed that if a pen had been given.

Goals win games not knocking it back and fourth for two minutes in midfield before passing it back to the keeper for him to bang it long straight back to them. We could still be out there now and not score.

Too many changes and too many debuts.....If PDC goes on about crappy players being taken off how the fuck did Ward stay on?? utter dog shit from the whistle til the last and still stayed on. He should be sent back and fucking quick , i saw nothing about him at all......it just shows how Paynter tip toed around Wembley that day as Ward took the piss.

The hour wait was a fucking joke and im surprised it was as calm as it was.....i was pissed off and hungry and sat waiting for......well...no reason at all as the Pox mongs had all fucked off after half an hour.

Tonight was a big shit sandwich and we all had to take a big bite...i cannot wait to see who PDC will blame for this.....anyway back to the league on Saturday.

Fods - 7 - had one real save of note to make and did it well, also a great save from a deflection but it was offside anyway. Could do nothing for the goal.

Devera - 5 - couldn't really beat his man and just had an average game.
Macca - 6 - Did fine, not much if anything got past him. Solid.
Ward - 4 - Started off well enough but seemed to get worse and then ran into Flint for the goal.
Bessone - 8 - Solid in the tackle, great anticipation, good heading, good pace and was always offering going forward.

A. Rooney - 5 - Not a right midfielder.
Ferry - 7 - Tenacious and bang up for it.
Coke - 7 - Touch of class about this guy, strong in the air and classy with the ball at his feet. Seemed to have a slight groin strain when he went off I think.
RDV - 6 - Did fine, better first half than in the second.

Williams - 6.5 - Worked hard as per usual, really should have got a shot away after that great run from the halfway line.
Benson 6.5 - New partnership seemed link up quite well, don't think he had much opportunity in front of goal.

Flint - 5 - wasn't really on for very long, very very harsh to blame him for the goal.
Bostock - 6 - We started to get some joy on the right, finally started running with the ball, couple of half chances.
Miller - 6 - Solid and kept it calm.

When I saw the line up, I figured Williams would play out wide seeing as he has previous experience at Yeovil, it really didn't work with Rooney out there to be honest.
We had plenty of chances to be out of sight by half time. Coke and Rooney with probably the best two. In the second half neither team really created anything clear cut and Wes only had one real save to make from a long range free kick, which he tipped over the bar. Solid game for Wes, no messing about when kicking, no fluffing his lines, back to good old Wes.
Says it all that their goal came from us handing it to them on a plate. They were after penalties and not much else.

We'll be fine for Saturday. I think Coke and Bessone warrant starts out of the new guys and if Ritchie isn't fit, I'd seriously consider giving Luke Rooney a try, we can't afford to play without 2 natural wingers.

It wasn't. Rooney is built like an out house with no pace but a good touch and Williams has loads of pace and good control so I would have swapped them over. I think Williams could probably do with a game not up front to get his confidence up because up top it's not working for him at the moment.

Wes' kicking was superb last night (and there was loads to do). Wilder played his front 2 with a pushing midfield in the same was as he did the last 2 times. We were passing accross at the back but only 10/15 yards from outside our box and then we were limited to long balls to Benson or putting it wide. Without any wingers or full backs on the right hand side we were restricted to the halfway line and midfield was the only outlet with Ferry running well with Coke also playing it simple (although he looked nervous).

We didn't really have any decent chances of note but we kept the ball well but played too deep trying to deal with their hoofball which was fairly noticable throughout the whole game.

Bessone played well although never overlapped really and left De Vita to do all the work.

We did ok but a lot of huff and puff but just lacked a bit of class, not helped by too many changes to the team.

Loved the way those 'on the hill' all celebrated the goal giving it the big 'un to us. Left one thinking 'so why the fuck aren't you in the stadium?' There were plenty of empty seats in home stands

I also laughed my cock off at the cunt in the scum top, shorts and glasses shortly before kick off. Looks like he and some Town fans had had 'words' as they passed in the car park directly behind the fence. He was literally shaking and hopping with rage :D

Nothing near the ground, couple of Pox fans got chucked out by the coppers for releasing smoke bombs and another one of those thunder flash things. Anyone would think they were Lazio Ultras the way they go on....

We parked down a street over from the hotel car park end and walked around half the ground, one of us in a Swindon shirt with not so much as a "cunt" or "scum" uttered towards us.

Awful night - Lost to "them" again.

Nice to get home for once before 10.30.
Mrs not happy me taking my lad to the game but no trouble.
We walked out through the Police lines without any bother.

Poor turnout from Pox in their Cup Final.......but.....they beat us again.
1300 away not a bad following in JPT with a crowd of less than 8,000.
Thought they always sold out against us.  :)

Start Bostock Saturday and back to winning ways.
No sadness being out of the JPT but getting beat by the Scum hurts.

Move on.................

I don't know, once again we give to OUFC charity and they are still ungrateful. Just like someone who looks up to an idol, wishing they could be as good as us we have tried help them. Last year we gave them six points in the league and they threw it back in our faces by completely ballsing their campaign up. Last year they watched us reach wembley and once again we could feel there adoring eyes upon us just wishing it was them, so this year we have extended our charity to them. No doubt they will balls it up again but we can only do so much. Eventually by their own choice they will have to leave the comfort of our shadow but before they can they will have to learn to survive without charity and realise it is talent and only talent that will get them to where there idols tread.

Only just woke up and had chance to comment!

Again, I'm absolutely gutted at losing to those cunts up the road...we didn't offer a lot and the game was poor. I couldn't watch the last 4 minutes after they scored and yet again thanks to TVP, who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Not putting enough coaches on to get back to the station and ended up getting in after midnight. I'd be happy to never go back there after this and last season.

Onwards to Saturday..!

Well my crap record continues. Four derbies in my time of supporting Town and four heartbreaking defeats. Last night was awful though. Losing late on is never nice but to lose so late against Oxford?! That hurt. A lot.

Pretty awful match in all. Oxford were effective in thwarting us from playing the way we like to play and it got very frustrating towards the end; our players just didn't seem to want to get it into the box and instead were content with passing it sideways and, worst of all, backwards all the time. We were the better of two poor sides but if you can't finish your chances, you're never going to win.

Of the debutants, only Bessone and Coke came out of that with any credit. Bessone looks like he'll be a very useful addition: he was competent going forward and defensively and his relationship with De Vita/Roberts will only improve. Coke also grew into the game as the match went on and clearly has a lot of skill, though at times he was too slow to release the ball and needs to play at the pace Swindon play at. Rooney was completely ineffective for most of the game, but he was played out of the position on the wing. When moved up front, he had a little more about him, but did waste a pretty good opportunity and could've passed instead of shot. Ward was the worst of the bunch and has to have had one of the worst debuts I've ever seen. He seemed to contradict all that I'd heard about him: he was pretty crap in the air (admittedly against a very tall hoofball team), was constantly hoofing it and was at fault for the goal. It's interesting that a defence that has been so solid over the past year is now making mistakes (Preston & Oxford) - think we'll improve when Archibald-Henville is back and Roberts and Ritchie on the wings can only improve our team.

Not going to use the 'it's only the JPT' excuse some of our fans were using on Twitter. JPT or not, Oxford are our fiercest rivals and I really wanted to win that one. We move onto Leyton Orient on Saturday now, though, where a win is an absolute necessity for me.

I'm embarrassed by those that are using the 'It's only the JPT!' line. If it's so pointless, then why did they go to the game?!

I still can't get over the fact that Oxford were fucking awful and the one time we knocked it about with a good through ball, we were in on goal (Giles Coke's hurried spooned effort in the first half!), just a shame that was only one of the two times that we managed to do so.

Oxford being camped on their 18 yard line whilst we knocked it about was a repeat of last seasons game.

Expected better things from our new boys...not entirely surpised as Oxford seem to have a hold over us at the moment. We need time for all these new players and combinations to settle in. I suspect that might take a little longer than we were originally thinking. It took a while last season and all came good, so not particular concerned at the moment. Only DiCanio `one stop short of Upton Park` behaviour is the most troublesome thing at the moment.

I used to work for a company who`s policy was based on blame culture and it doesn`t work, needless to say.....

Who needs the JPT anyway...play off final will do instead.

I wonder how Aiden flint, for example, feels about being at a successful club winning medals and being bathed in glory.

I wonder which he would prefer, working under Paolo and his perceived faults, or mulling about at a mid-table team not really doing much.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing though does it? Di Canio did well last season, he's largely done well so far this season. That doesn't mean he can't improve. And one way some people think he might be able to improve is by not tearing a strip off individual players in public every time we lose. They may be wrong, but you don't need to jump down their throats every time someone suggests that maybe there's ways Di Canio could do things differently which might be better (even if, granted, he's not very likely to)

I think thats a fair argument, rather than just stating his way is always right because he won the league last season.

FWIW, I think PDC DOES need to reign it in, and publicly lambasting individual players will do more harm than good in the long run. But I don't know Aden Flint - maybe he responds well to this kind of stuff.

No it isn't fucking stupid because that's how fans act at times. Perhaps Paolo does these things because he actually knows what he is doing and is very well qualified, yet still people with zero experience decide that PDC should do things their way.

Was my question not a fair one?
It was perfectly reasonable

Quote
And how the fuck is me making a comment jumping down anybody's throat? Am I to just keep my opinions to myself, is that how it works?
Not at all, and it wasn't so much the one comment, more the tendency as soon as anyone says anything critical about or even questioning of Di Canio's methods for the instant rebuttal team to be straight in there. Sorry, "jumping down people's throat" was a bit strong. More a case that there's a tendency (and not just from you) to meet any questioning of Di Canio's methods with a zero-sum "Well, it's working isn't it?". And you do seem to be very sensitive to even the mildest criticism of the great man.

I think joteddy was making a similar complaint last night.

Huh? Literally two posts up from that I said pretty much what you did in that first paragraph. But I'm not going to dismiss those who question PDC. Firstly because a lot of his methods are unorthadox, and to be wary of them is understandable. But more importantly, and a point you tend to just ignore, is that nobody is saying they are more qualified to do what PDC does, and the way he does it is wrong. Not on here anyway.

Maybe so. Hadn't especially noticed that myself, but maybe it is the case. Maybe it's just the same situations keep occurring, which is likely to lead to the same responses. Both of which observations (about the record needing changing and the same situations eliciting the same responses) can be made as criticising/defending your reactions to PDC critics. Ho hum.

Because there'd be less risk of high wage and high fee players pissing off, and the club wouldn't have the negative press that becomes associated with it. Although you'd assume he'd need to keep some of the edge to maintain his success.

The earlier comment wasn't directed solely at you but, as pauld says,  more towards those who refuse to accept any discussion on his methods purely becuase it's worked so far. . No offence was intended on my part.

On a lighter note and the only thing making me smile from last night are those pricks from up the road saying "how loud it was last night" only heard them when they scored.......7,000 crowd and they are excited. Tin pot but sadly beat us again.

Jesus fucking christ, it's more hormonal on here these days than I imagine it is in a 16 year old girls hockey team changing room after 6-0 defeat and the entire rooms shoes and bags being stolen.

FWIW, I'm enjoying every minute of the show at STFC these days.  PLayers feelings can go an do a running jump, fuck em all I say, it's about my team winning.  I have no moral compass mind.  One day, they'll all train to be train drivers like Phil Smith and be thankfull of every minute they had in football, whether they were being lauded or lambasted.

Right, I've had a shit day at work. I work in Swindon and the number of fucking people giving me shit has got right on my fucking tits. I'm still in a fucking strop from last night. Don't give a fuck it was only the JPT.
The selection was bizarre and I don't think the players gave too much of a fuck. We lost the battle. They were up for it more than us, I'm getting a bit fed up of the bollocks about understanding what it means to us. If you know that then why the fuck put out 4 debutants, one out of position when you had a winger with the same fucking surname sat with us or one of the strikers being an ex winger. Ward was fucking useless and devera couldn't beat his own pudding last night so why not bring on Thompson and move Devera alongside Macca - who incidentally had a pretty crap game. What is the fucking point of having Thompson there if you're not going to give him a game.
I could go on and fucking on but PdC fucked it up last night. Wrong selection, wrong subs, players not fired up and then publicly blaming flint when he'd only been on the pitch a few minutes and had to play alongside someone who had an absolute fucking shocker.
I'm still with Pdc but my patience is wearing fucking thin now. I'm fucking tired of the public bollickings - just shut the fuck up for five minutes.

I am now sat down stairs in stoney silence.....fuck last night and today.

I'm just ok with the whole approach - I accept at some point it may go a bit Steve McMahon but he wasn't fun to boot - and if it means we don't have any players sticking around for more than a year or two at a time (and it is sustainable financially, which thus far seems ok), then who cares.  Get em in, make em play, ship em out.  Harry Redknapp without the transfer fees and over the top wages and bit more bite.

I gave up my season ticket to avoid getting into verbal fights with other fans who seem to insist on being excessively negative these days.

It's football, sit back and enjoy the ride we are on.  Some days we'll scrape the shit out of our legs like they do in that crazy french bike ride, other days we'll be king of the mountains.  Or something like that....

You're all just getting a little carried away - both ways.

Huwwy, Chalkie, Kerry and most of all the pompous prick Ardilles, this one's for you.

At last, an achievement in life. Mentioned in the same sentence as my esteemed friends Chalkie, Kerry and Ardiles.

Can you not see the irony in you coming on to our forum and accusing Ardiles of being pompous, OF? Who the fuck are you to complain about too much arrogance and ignorance on a Swindon forum? We were playing a lower league club after beating a Premier league team and so had every right to be confident and to post about our hopes for the game. I'm sure the posts on the Oxford site were hardly a rigourous intellectual debate on the likely outcome. If you don't like to read what we post then don't log on. Glad to see we got to you though and keep scrolling up to get to our league scores on a Saturday afternoon. :bye:

Oxford Fan

Let's get some facts straight.

1. The game didn't matter - only the result did

2. I agree we do have a bit of a superiority complex - rightly earned I believe - at the moment. Mind you, your club seems to have an ingrained inferiority complex when it comes to this fixture.

When you won at our place early last season when we weren't at our best, to be fair you played some decent football.

Yet, when it came to the return fixture and again Wednesday your inferiority complex came to the fore with 10 men behind the ball, no attacking threat and a reasonable imitation of the old Wimbledon.

Yes, that has now worked twice and fair play for that, but if you harbour ambitions of promotion this year, that sort of shit-scared hoofball against teams of a higher division will soon see you back in the basement.

Your annual implosion last season was I believe in no small part due to the build up the fixture at the Kassam - and in hindsight I'm sure most fans on here would welcome defeat if it scuppered your season.

On a personal note, I am so happy Mr Wilder seems set to stay as captain of the SS Pisspot - you'll get nowhere with that twat.

I hope the 1-0 win in the tinpot cup keeps you warm on your trip to Accrington later in the season.

Dear oh dear kerry, you're only making it worse.

1. Obviously, I couldn't give 2 shits about the JPT.

It's not poosible to feel inferior when you've been superior in the last 4 meetings. You know what they say, "you're only as good as your last (4) result(s)."

I too am glad Wilder is staying. He talks pure sense and is adept at assembling a solid squad capable of a title challenge, on a budget, unlike some other managers. His sides play good football.

We don't play hoofball and injuries did us in last season.

Anyway, that's my last post on this. I'm not normally on a wind up and the result speaks for itself.

Absolute horseshit, he's had one promotion in 10 years of management, via the playoffs.  This is your third year in the bottom tier with both having mid table finishes and you say he builds squads capable of a title challenge, you've not even made the playoffs with him in charge in that division.

Quote
We don't play hoofball and injuries did us in last season.

Christ, I needed sunglasses on Wednesday following the ball from your lot, the floodlights kept blinding me from looking up at the ball. The grass was up to players ankles and you have rugby played on it. Not conducive to having conditions suitable for free flowing passing football.

Anyway whilst we're on excuses and injuries you say he builds a good squad, well injuries to your team shouldn't really be an excuse then, it's a squad game.

Fair play to the Oxford bloke giving it some. I think a fair number of Town fans can be a bit hypocritical at times, find that approach quite boring to be honest, Suddenly the JPT is back to being a 'pisspot cup' just because we've been knocked out. Bit pathetic really.

Fair play to Oxford and I agree there is a slight similarity between the Oxford and Scotland approach, not because they 'only' care about beating their bigger neighbour (as I disagree with that comment) but because they always seem to put in more in derbies, they have a better mental approach to derby matches. I hate watching Swindon v Oxford matches as more often than not the opposition lads seem to raise their game, it seems to mean more to them than us.

Being honest a fair few Swindon fans do seem to have illusions of grandeur at times, we could do with knocking ourselves down a peg or two, the arrogance of some is not a welcome trait of a Town fan.  On one hand people bang on about hating it when Premier League teams belittle supporters of teams in lower divisions, yet we do exactly the same with clubs that are deemed to be inferior to us.

Perhaps it's an age thing, but with every passing year my approach to being a football supporter changes.

I don't think we're belittling Oxford because they're in a lower league, but just because they're Oxford - the lower league thing is simply another stick to beat them with. That's different...

Close the forum. Won't ever get more sense than this.

As I keep saying, all the cunts on here who profess to not care that Oxford keep beating us are lying, or missing the point completely.

Fuck sake DMR you can't half be a sanctimonious up yourself twat at times. You know what, not everyone has to feel the same way as you. I'm pissed of if we lose to anyone 4 times in a row. Not happy that it's Oxford but may be as pissed off if it was orient or Hartlepool or anyone else. What point exactly am I or anyone else missing?

Oh dear.

If you read my post, it is levelled at those who profess NOT to care.

You have just said you do.

Move along and perhaps get your eyes tested.

There’s a difference about not caring about defeat against them in this match compared to the previous 3 that were in meaningful competitions

I wouldn’t care if we lost against them in a friendly and the JPT 1st round is about the same significance to some people, the previous games hurt bad, this didn’t.

As it goes I wear pretty thick spectacles anyway and the eye tests are up to date.

I perhaps misread the intention of your comment and worded my reply incorrectly.  My actual reply should have been that I personally don't care that it was Oxford who have beaten us 4 times anymore than were it either of the other teams I mentioned.

I took it that you were implying that every fan should follow what you think is right and they should be really pissed off because its them.  This is a viewpoint which has rankled me due to a tweet from a town fan saying 'anyone who says they are not angry about losing to the scum last night is not a true town fan'.

People use of absolutes proclaiming what they believe is the truth, is the truth is rife over internet forums and something we fall into.  Peoples use of the phrases 'end of', 'fact' and the previous tweet are prime examples.

I am rambling a bit here.  Mind you I will say, DMR, that I have always found your internet persona is a that of a bumptious devils advocate.  I therefore presumed that was what you meant.  If its not then I apologise.

Mind you it was fun changing my internet persona for 5 minutes and abusing you.  Maybe Ill do it again some other time.

You're not wrong there. Although bumptious is a bit much, it's not my fault everyone else is a moron.

Said persona will continue as long as it continues to wind the likes of Herthab and Ardiles up to the point of pulmonary embolism.

I agree with Saxondale...you don't want to be losing to anybody 4 games in a row, whether it's Oxford, or any other club.

Personally, I find losing or failing to win at Whaddon Road, much more annoying.
