Any of you got or had a nickname - what and why?

Some of my mates at school (years ago) called me Flash - after the dog from the Dukes of Hazzard  :(

I think it was more because of the laid back slumbering approach, rather than actually looking like it :)

I gave a schoolmate the nickname of The Moog - as in Willow the Wisp. I have no idea why!

In primary school I was Pickle, because some retard thought it rhymed with Michael.

Nowadays it's Mike, Mikey, Bakes, Baker - any variation on either of my names really.

Beer gut, because I used to have a beer gut, and gearstick because I'll take anything apart and try to fix it. But none have ever really stuck for a prolonged period.

Berni, or Bernard funnily enough.  My surname is Manning so it was the obvious way to go at the time I guess.  It has stuck with a lot though and I still use it occaisionally.  I can't remember the last time though....

Although I was Dino J in Greece. the reason being that I have a reptilian like ridge along my skull. It's normally hidden but with a trip to the hairdressers in Kavos being a luxury that few of us could afford, I took to shaving my head instead and the Dino ridge was revealed.

Oh.

And I was Gippo J at school, because I was a park saaaaaaf boy with hand-me-downs in the same classes as the (posh) kids from The Lawns.

I do like a well thought out nickname. There a few in sport which I reckon are clever

In the 80's I was nicknamed Moley, because apparently when I was younger I looked like the TV character Adrian Mole.

I have a such a weird name so I've never really had a nickname. A few people call me Lanzo sometimes, don't know why. Some people call me the Serb to wind me up.

Mine's Paolo here in Reading (a lazy play on my surname), although my Swindon mates don't know me as this. Even my Mrs calls me it.

I have a friend who's nickname is Irish, the strange thing is he was born and brought up in Scotland, he got the nickname because he is a Celtic supporter and used to sit in the green brigade section.

Had a lad in my class at school named Cheese Knob, purely for the fact that he smelt of cheese and acted like a knob on the first day of school.  This name stuck for years.

Mine is Jutty it has been since about second year of junior school, after the fact my mum always gave me jam sandwiches for my packed lunch, it started of as jam butty then got shortened to jutty.

My nickname at school was Wiggy.

Most people just call me Phelpsie, no one really calls me by my first name.

Flash....play on my surname as in flash ash but after a while the ash bit got dropped.

At school, my nickname was farmer, because in my first ever R.E lesson, we were asked to colour something in and i proclaimed "I aint got no colours"

I only call her that because we were watching an old Billy Connolly gig shortly after we met and, mid way through a sketch about a Glaswegian docker called Jimmy, he turns to the audience and asks 'Have you ever noticed how everyone from Glasgow is called Jimmy?'  My wife isn't even from Glasgow...she's from a small town about an hour up the road in Argyll.  But it stuck.

I remembered earlier that my Dad used to call me "Chalky" when I was little - at the time I assumed that he was secretly as big a fan of the animated children's cartoon "Charlie Chalk" as I was, but when I got more into football and thus Town, I decided it was probably borrowed from Steve White. No idea why though.

I have an unusual surname so this has always acted like a nickname.  I had mates (still do!) at uni who never actually knew my first name.  It was like being a Brazilian footballer - only pale, fat, and crap at football.
