Title: Tattoo Advice.
Post by: herthab on Sunday, April 29, 2012, 19:51:58
I know I may be opening myself up to some ridicule, but I thought I'd get some opinions from the tef...

I've got a Swindon tattoo on my left upper arm and there's quite a bit of room above it for another. I was thinking of getting the England football crest (In red, like the new shirts) but am in two minds.

Anyone got any different ideas?

Can any of the more artistic amongst you come up with something a bit more unique, yet still in keeping with the football theme?

I'd suggest going to a tattooer and speaking to them, the will be able to see the contours of your arm and tell you what will look best. What looks good on paper may not look good on skin, any good tattooer will be more than happy to give you a 5 minute consultation.

I've been thinking of having a tattoo on my arm done. It came to me in a dream so the concept is hard to describe. But basically it's an England flag and Bosnian flag, they overlap in bands forming a sort of flag sphere.

Ive often thought about getting a town tattoo done, but I dont like the idea of a club badge - it just doesnt seem very original to me.
I'd definitely not get an England badge done - it just feels a bit cliche and there are thousands of very bad ones floating around on all the beaches of southern Spain.

I agree with the post about speaking to a decent tattoo artist - they will be happy to come up with something that is exclusively yours that you can be proud of.
I would think of a few things special about Town - maybe a train, a robin, 1979, the league 2 champions trophy ?? a good tattoo artist could come up with something awesome.

How about this above your current one...? But made to look a bit 'meaner'? Up on the top of your shoulder?

Wonder if Paolo will still get his tattoo done?

Quote from November last year:

"With West Ham I have a special relationship. I have a tattoo of them. But Swindon are my first club. I am completely dedicated to this club. Maybe at the end of the season I will extend the tattoos on my body and get a Swindon one if we win the league."

For a bunch of guys who are still all in their 20's they standard of work is phenomenal. I know the guys in Wood street very well and are great guys. If you saw some of their work without knowing them you'd think it was done by someone who has been in the industry for 20 odd years. A lot of talent in that place

For anyone over towards Bicester, Jon at Atomic Tattoos is one of the best tattoo artists I've seen.
He did a great cover up for my mrs on an arm tattoo she regretted.

My generic advice for all tattoos is decide what you want and where, then wait a year. If you still want it, get it done. If you change your mind about anything (place, design, size, colour) then start the year again at that point.

Had my first tattoo at the age of fifteen in someones garden shed whilst watching Tiswas. It cost me £4 of my hard earned pocket money but my parents went mental when They found out after about a week of me hiding it :) the bloke who done it was the only one around our area at the time but now has a couple of Tattoo studios and is now definately more professional.

It seems that a majority of people who have a tattoo tend to have more than one. If you have never had a tattoo and you wanted one (but only one) whereabouts on your body would you have it done?

The missus only has one and she's got it on her collarbone going over her shoulder. I've also just got the one and thats on my upper arm, I am also going to get another one when I can afford it and that'll be on the upper part of my left arm, I personally would get inked on my forearms as some places can be quite funny about visiable tat's.

I have a couple of tattoos done by the late Pedro of Ferndale Road many moons back.

Got a simple one just black writing last year on my upper arm.....the wife and kids names.

Anyone ever been to ink-redible? I only want a pacman on my arm, nothing special. And they've got an offer on groupon. Are they going to botch my arm up?

Great Western Tattoo Parlour and Skin Graffiti are quality, if you're in Swindon I'd just go to either of those.

Maybe. But they look vile when you are young too and give a terrible first impression. They put off employers at interviews - unless you cover them up. If you are going to cover them up then what's the point?

The pacman that was posted earlier: I don't get it? Things are funny when you see or hear them for the first time or out of the blue. I can't see anyone looking at their arm several times a day or every morning when they get up and chortling away at their comedy statement.

People have some funny ideas of what looks good or cool. Take Tai Woffenden. Looks absolutely stupid imho with his neck tattoo and spacer earrings. Still, I guess he's happy.

Takes all sorts - just expressing my opinion.

It is. Might come across that way because it is fact to the person who is expressing the opinion? Personally, there are a lot of things that I don't have strong opinions on. But tattoos unfortunately aren't one of them.

A friend of a friend has just opened up a tattoo parlour in Calne - Wood Street Inc.

He is very good (I don't have any but loads of mates have used him).

He has a range of crop circle designs that look great. I am tempted but never have the spare cash.

I can't think of a practical reason to have a tattoo?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the Nazis had their blood group tattooed on them in case they were injured. Made identifying the cunts easier after the war.

any good tattooer will design something for you, it depends more one what style you want.

Some might charge you for a design, but most wont.

I know a majority of the good tattooers in swindon so if you give me an idea of what you are after will try and suggest one.

What's a full day these days? 8 hours? Its a long time to sit/lay for a tattoo. I found anything over 4/5 hours was too much but everyone has their own pain thresholds.

1. Goes without saying but stay off the booze the night before.
2. Stay hydrated, and keep your blood sugar levels up. Still Lucozade was my preference.
3. Make sure you eat before hand
4. Do not be afraid to ask for breaks, most will offer regular breaks but some get sucked into the work and forget. Just don't take the piss and ask for a fag break every 20 minutes.
5. I'm not a big talker so I always ask if they mind me listening to some music to take my mind off things.

All pretty basic stuff really.
