Sells the best Lardie Cake. Cake shop at the back of Oxford Corner. Was great for a Bikers day out.
After that, there is nothing to commend the place.

Go there on the occasional Sunday to have a kick about on the beach/mud and give the springer a good run. Weston has been over run with brummies for a few years now but friendly enough.

I remember going to the tropicana ( think thats what it was called ) it was great in its day but has been shut down for years. Think they are now just going to flatten it as any new plans for it that come in seem to get rejected. The outdoor pool up near the old pier is still there though.

Do you remember the flumes they had in there. The joints between each bolted together section had a step in them and remember peeling half my skin off in grazes going down them.

I've never seen the tide in when i have been there. Probably not a bad thing considering the water looks brown

Going for a paddle at Weston must be risky with all that mud. when the tide is out like it normally is its miles away.

I live there.....

To cover a few points, and maybe dispel (or even confirm) a few myths

Tropicana has been closed since 2000. Complete eyesore now. Have been several plans to redevelop it - there was a great one recently that looked like the arse end of a cruise ship - but keep geeting blocked by the council and buggered by the NIMBY OAP's living on the sea front

New pier is open, and has been for about 18 months, still looks and feels like a pier, but now with a kart track and a few different rides, nice restaurant etc.

Place is overrun by brummie's year round, which is irritating

They're building a snow dome (bigger and better than MK) this year.

Don't bother going in the sea. Well its not really the sea anyway, its the Bristol Channel. The beach near the old hospital (up near the golf course/Uphill) is much nicer than down the pier end. Quieter too.

I don't know of an open air pool near Birnbeck Pier. Are you thinlking of Portishead? (recently refurbished as part of a tv show)

I'm going to hunt out that shop that sells lardie cake on Saturday. Thanks!

Best time of day is Weston is the hour either side of sunrise and sunset, especuially in Autumn and Spring. Mainly because all the day trippers have fucked off, you get some lovely sunsets as the sun goes down over the Welsh hills and its really quiet with just a few people out beach fishing, cycling, running on the sea front. I often cycle down early morning or early evening just for a bit of p&q.

But generally, its quite shit and full of chavs. Like Gillingham, but by (ish) the sea.....

I like it in Weston.

And yes, I have seen the tide in right up to the sea wall.

The pool I'm thinking of is where you can walk along the path at water level, it's a sea water pool but used to have changing cubicles years ago. Is the Weston eye still there? Brean down is also good for a Sunday walk.

I know the one, its by Knightstone Island (in between the 'new' and old piers), although I don't consider it a swimming pool as such.

AFAIK the Eye is not there currently; was supposed to be back at Easter, but think its up in Glasgow at the moment. It certainly wasn't there on Monday when I drove down there.

Brean is nice, but a bit of a buggers muddle to get to from where I live! Its about three miles as the crow flies, but about 15 miles by road!

I remember going to the tropicana

Was that the club?  The business model was awful.  Drinks were free for a start - not sustainable.

But there was enough fun and sunshine for everyone

True.  Perhaps it was a location issue, placing it on the Bristol channel.  All that was missing was the sea.

Going for a paddle at Weston must be risky with all that mud. when the tide is out like it normally is its miles away.

And this is what happens if you do try to reach the sea when the tide's out.
