Title: Who is the new player?
Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 19:43:47
Scottish/English and out of contract at end of this season.

Andy Driver of Hearts would fit the bill and woud be a superb signing but another left winger?

I understand the need for another CM (a position PDC is said to want), particularly a creative player to take the burden off Ferry. Would be nice to get one who can score goals as well (Ferry's big weakness as well as being a little light weight) and i cant see a LB exciting the fans!

However dont get the Cox signing, he has barely played so far. I like Smith, and PDC likes Risser so do we really need 5? or is PDC planning next season and Risser/Smith will be gone?

Unless he is planning a change of formation maybe, 4-3-3 is preferred by a lot of teams

Steve Lomas from the Lomas Centre in the Outlet village.  Lomas, it's Lomas.  Cunt.

That should cover most TEF posts.

Unfortunately, that doesnt really narrow it down.

Brian Howard

Out of contract at the end of the season, played for England Under 20's and...

Howard was called up by Scotland national football team manager George Burley for their friendly match against Croatia on 26 March 2008, through his father being from Scotland; however he was deemed ineligible by FIFA as he had not registered his availability by age 21. Despite subsequently trying to overturn this decision FIFA have refused to allow him to represent Scotland.

Anyone want saturdays lottery numbers?

Seemingly yes. His wiki page is pretty much a list of injuries, both suffered by him and caused by him.

I do remember him being touted as a very good prospect whilst at Blackburn so he should have some quality.

I am very impressed with Jay McEveley, to have a current(ish) full Scottish international who is pretty close to the prime of his career at 27.

Very big and strong and good in the tackle with a little bit of pace.

Hes very much in the Andy Nicholas mould but better!

This does show that we do mean business in not just this leaugue but the next one above too.

I am pretty sure he can play at Wembley too if needed as hes been registered in time (if he does sign today) and obviously hasn't played in any of the earlier rounds.

I agree but he went off with an injury last night, any idea if its a serious one? if it was precautionary then thats good, I rate Cibbo after his poor start to his Swindon career, I don't think Paolo sees him as a first choice at al though.

As much as i think it is a great signing i don't think it is right he should be involved Sunday. It does seem likely that this spells the end of kennedys swindon future but it would be nice if his last major involvement was at wembley.

Paolo did say that it looks highly unlikely that Caddis will play a part at Wembley too, I feel gutted for him hes been a stalwart this season, one of the contenders for POTY along with Ritchie, Fodders and McCormack.

Be a real shame that he has performed so well and to miss out on a big game for him.

Apart from anything else, I wouldn't chuck a player straight into the starting line up (wherever we were playing but least of all at Wembley) who has only even trained with the other players 2 or 3 times, let alone actually played a game.

And it's not as if we're not capable of beating Chesterfield with the players we have ::)

38 according to the FL website

By no means the most in the league, and only 3 more than Crawley and 5 more than Southend and Poxford. Don't think it's something that can really be used as a criticism of us 'cheating' our way to the top of the division.

Hasn't worked out that way for Northampton (45 players), Daggers (41) or Bradford (40) has it?

You usually associate the successful clubs with using a smaller amount of players - consistency in selection quite often results in a successful run at this level (a bit different at the top of the Prem obviously where they can afford a huge squad of internationals). I guess Cheltenham being at the bottom of this list is an example of this. Its usually the clubs struggling at the bottom that use more players - how many did we use in our Premiership season ?

Years ago loan players were for a month or 3 months if they did well and you would only have 1 or 2 at a time.
Most clubs have a revolving door of loan players these days

If I remember correctly in one of the seasons in which we won the play-off final we had a run of approx 15-20 games where we fielded the same starting XI.

Might be total bollocks but if true would suggest that having a settled team has its advantages.

It was 89-90 and it was around 20 games in a row under Ardiles, that was the days of 2 subs as well. Usually Shaun Close and one other (Cornwell, Galvin, Simpson etc).
