Bit worried about tonight, Shrewsbury are in good form. Luckily for us that's mostly due to their home form though and they are the poorest travellers of the top 8 this season.

Fancy us to nick it by the odd goal, Cibocchi to score a screamer.

Form has to be on our side doesn`t it following Crawley and Southend games...just can`t decide on 2-0 or 2-1....we are on a run now and so we have to be very confident of a win every game. There maybe a slip up at some point probably Oxford but for the moment its looking good

It sounds like some people are over-confident about tonight.  Yes we're on a avery good run, and at home look to be unbeatble, but Shrewsbury are a very good team and should not be underestimated.  I'm predicting a 1-1 draw.

Always nervous on games like this.  Especially nervous when people are confident.  Im just not used to being confident about our beloved team.

I have to say Saturdays performance was against a desperate team on a shit pitch where we were fielding a 3rd choice centre back partnership and without sick boi in midfield as he was off shitting himself.  Mind you by the sounds of it, midfield was largely bypassed by Hereford.

Im hoping that with the right team playing and the chance to play it on the floor we can win this, but Ill be nervous till its all over.

Sir SWS will probably fail his first year due to the vast number of games in the next few weeks but so long as he keeps coming up trumps we'll keep winning.

2-0 goals from Benson and Bodin.

I see the usual doom and gloom merchants are getting into wrist-slashing mode again.

Just what do we have to do to inspire a bit more confidence in you lot.

Basing your doom-laden predictions on the 'we're bound to drop points/lose sometime' scenario is ludicrous.

If we do drop a point or lose it wont be because 'we can't carry winning all the time'.

Get a grip - we can

Got a feeling we might slip tonight, Shrewsbury will cause us a few problems I think and we will need to be on top of our game to get a win. Id actually be relatively satisfied with a point! Especially with the 2 following games being very winnable.

Heart says 3-1 win but wouldn't be surprised if we only get a draw. It will take some doing to maintain a winning streak and we pushed our luck a bit on Saturday. A point wouldn't be the end of the world as it will be one of the toughest games out of the way. Hope we're up near the 9,000 tonight but plenty of footie on TV.

Going to be a tight one tonight, and I am gutted to miss it, but work and family stuff will keep us away tonight.

Our full backs will have to be switched on tonight, and I think we will need a fit Ferry buzzing around the pitch.

A entertaining but nervy 1-0 win.

PDC:
- Shrews have changed since they last played us
- We have better quality now
- They have 2-3 players with good quality
- We weren't gelling as a team then.
- We need to put in 100% effort or we wont win as it would be easy to concede a couple of goals

Maybe in the same way that we didn't let Crawley and Southend play...could just be down to Shrews having done their homework.  Thought some of the confidence on here earlier today was over-done, to tell the truth...but we can still recover from this.  Will be very interesting to see how we come out after the break.  How will Paolo respond to this?

My god we have some mongs.

Yep, I got one sat next to me. Has moaned all of the way through the first half & then decided he needed to shout abuse at Ritchie after we conceded.

Had to politely tell him he's a twat.

That said, that is probably the worst we have played all season.
I think it's mostly the fact that Shrewsbury have their tactics right.

Ferry & Connell on for me. Bodin has looked well out of sorts & is getting out muscled all of the time by both of the Centre Halves. Ferry is needed to create some spark in midfield.

Still think we can get back into this, but we need to play much better.

Paolo hasn't had to make this sort of speech in a long time. It'll have an impact on the players no doubt, good or bad.

Come on mate, 21 points from 21 points. Think an off day was a little over due. Having said that think Town can come back from 'a whole goal' down, hardly comeback of the year if it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Slightly disappointing. Then again I'm not there so I can't really moan. Then again I do live 160 miles from the CG...whatever. Most clubs in L2 would be delighted with that.

Missed the last 20 mins of that.  Would I be right in thinking that Shrewsbury were mugged?

If so, there's no better indicator of a side that's going up.  You pick up points in the games you deserve to win...and in the games you don't as well.

Delighted we slayed the slippery Salopians.

When you left we started to attack a bit. Connell scored the first following the Shrews keeping spilling the first shot he had to save. After that there was a period of 15 mins or so when we battered them. This culminated in a shot from Rooney being saved then Benson missing from a couple of yards and Connell scoring from the rebound. After that we sat back as Shrews pushed forward for the equaliser.

- Ferry replacing Smith seemed to spur on the Town.
- Connell replacing Bodin paid dividends
- Boateng sounded woeful, with mistake after mistake. Cibbo seemed to have a torrid time, while Boateng was on but obviously cant tell whether that was because of the mare Boateng sounded as if he was having. Only heard Risser's name once after he came on (Normally a good sign for me for a CB)

Because at 1-0 they had a break away where Alan Mac was convinced that Macca tripped the attacker in the box. He was convinced it was a stone wall penalty and that Macca should have been sent off. Ref gave nothing

2 more home games we should win, against opposition not as good as Shrews, should mean we get a chance to keep piling on the points at the top.  Think the fact Town didn't play well tonight will spur us on a fair bit over the next couple of matches.

PDC:
- We were lucky
- First 55 mins Shrews deserved to be in lead
- Acknowledge that Shrews should have had pen and Alan Mac sending off
- After this we dominated
- Before game he thought Town were nervous about game
- Shrews blocked wide areas. We didnt cope with that in first half
- Second half showed our class by turning things around, scored 2 goals and created 4/5 other chances
- Many silly mistakes in the middle of the park today
- Too nervous in the first half but showed quality in second half
- PDC impressed by Shrews in both games
- When asked about Connell coming on he talked more about more discipline at the back when Risser came on.
- Ferry in the middle gave 'less energy but more quality'
- Connell crucial for 2 goals, but the Ferry and Risser played a big part
- Praised Rooneys talent, but commented (I think) on the fact that he drifts in and out of games
- Alan McCormack incident: Didnt see it properly but could have been free kick or penalty and red card. Things even themselves out over the season
- Commented on how good Collins was for Shrews
- Happy to be top of the league but is not celebrating yet. Still a long way to go, but a good position to be in.
- Need to extend gap between us and 4th place before thinking of anything else.
- Talked about fans. Not criticising fans, but there was a moment of booing. Wants fans to support players and help them. Dont expect fantastic football and hammering everyone. Keep calm, wait and say thanks to the players, because they deserve praise.
- Magera departure: To give him first team football. See what happens at end of year. Magera happy to go. Magera tried to contact PDC today to say thank you. Will meet up with him in the summer and go from there. Sounds like the loan is with a possible move in the summer.

As for the boos...most teams get bood off if there losing these days, its more a boo at the result rather than the performance etc,we have the best fans in the league i reckon and more to the point PDC knows this also.

UUFS - Utterly, Utterly, Fucking, Superb!!!

I've come home on top of the world and crashing into some Jamesons on a school night. Yes we were shit but they weren't that good and offered fuck all up front.

It's about time we had some luck and if they think that was a fucking pen when their player dived (yet again) then they should stay away from the sheep dip.

We had a spell of 30 minutes where the crowd were up, the players were up and Di Canio was a conductor. Ferry and Connell were just out of this world and caused havoc when they came on and having played shit today shows what a piss poor league this is when we can still win and as Leeds as it may be we are too good for this shit.

Caddis:
- It was definitely a penalty and sending off
- We've had some shocking decisions this year so it was nice to get one in our favour
- Credit to Connell for the goals. Dont see him get many from distance as he's a box player
- Couldnt put his finger on the turning point in the game, but highlighted the performance of 'his mate' Simon Ferry
- Shrews best team we've played this year. Disrupted Town's game plan
- Always pressure on the team as everyone sees Town as the team to beat in L2. Team is thriving on it at the moment.
- Aren't untouchable, but are doing well at the moment. Team is trying to play football

Did we deserve 3 points tonight, did we get a bit lucky, yes probably? Who gives a shit though, sometimes you need a bit of luck.

Ferry and Connell made the difference in the second half and our never say die attitude brought us 3 points.

The ref was going to blow up for the foul, but looked at the linesman who wasn't flagging and changed his mind.  The foul was just outside the box anyway.

We were poor in the first half, but the booing at half time was nothing short of pathetic.

Loving Paolo's celebrations at the end and his waving to the Shrewsbury supporters after receiving a fair amount of abuse. He is superb and WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!

Shrewsbury were a tough nut to crack.

We cant rely on Boateng, thought Risser made us look better at the back. Smith was pretty bad first half, but there was no movment up front until Connell came on. Pretty sure Connell looked knackered after 30 minutes (he did run his socks off) but you have to wonder if he has had a virus as well.

I was cringing when the first half extra time board went up. I knew some twats were going to boo. 7 wins in a row, and they boo us of against the best team weve played in the league all season. And yes, if you booed you are a twat. Just because you live in Swindon doesnt mean you need to be negative about everything. Paolo's making things happen.

Worst performance of the season, yet we still won! Yes it was daylight robbery (it's lovely to say that) but that's the sign of a Championship winning team.

Looked a blatant professional foul by McCormack from my seat in the SB end of the DRS, so fuck knows how we got away with that. But that must be the first wrong decision that's gone for us all season.

Ferry and Connell made a huge difference when they came on. I really hope Devera's fit on Saturday because the Arsenal kiddy isn't up to league football.

Good chance to put things right on Saturday, but we won't play a better side than Shrewsbury for the rest of the season.

First hour(ish) we were awful. Couldn't pick out a red shirt over 5 or 50 yards, and Bodin in particular looked sluggish and tired. So did Cibocchi and Boateng, but then you can't sub 'em all! Boateng continued to be pretty much woeful, winning almost zero headers when challenged, showing a distinct lack of awareness and positioning, and commiting the cardinal sin of letting the ball bounce, thus handing the advantage to his man. Cibo also tried his hardest to hoof the ball back to Shrewsbury at any given opportunity, and when that failed, managed to find a blue shirt with every throw in. However, with a fair few misfiring players, and a poor first half (and then some) we capitalised on our good fortune and did brilliantly to force the victory. A scrappy win, but one of the most important. Connell and Ferry changed the game.

Connell again:
- Received MoM
- Wasnt well last night. Must have ate something that upset him.
- Only felt well when he went onto pitch
- Acknowledged that they didnt play well
- Delighted to get 2 tap ins
- Crowd got behind team even when team was 1-0 down
- Hard to continually put good performances in. Good to win scrappy against a promotion rival
- PDC pointed out what they were doing wrong in 1st half and they were able to put it right in 2nd
- Difficult playing catch up from poor start. Pleased to be top.
- Great feeling every time he scores.
- Loves playing at Swindon
- Possible penalty: Looked like it could have been a penalty/sending off.
- Luck on our side tonight
- Need to focus on Accrington on Saturday
- Lots of recovery sessions rather than hard training because of the fixtures falling every Tuesday and Saturday at the moment. Could be the reason why they started a little flat tonight.
- Too ill to drink champers tonight. Hasnt drunk any of the 3 bottles of champers he has got for MoM

Can't argue with that description of the game, lucky to be only 1-0 down at half-time and it was a penalty and a sending-off.  Even Wes had a bit of a dodgy game tonight - not as bad as their 'keeper though who gifted us one goal and made a series of errors after that.   Loved the Town end chant "1-0 and you dropped the ball!"

Were we lucky: yes
Were Shrews half decent : yes, particularly going forward
Did we deserve the win : Probably not
Do I care : Nope!

To be honest the first half was probably as bad as we have been all season. The Shrews did a good job stopping our right hand side and deserved the 1-0 lead.

Second half we came out and you could see Paolo had had a word. We looked up for it all of a sudden. But Shrewsbury were still dangerous and probably should have had a penalty and possibly a sending off for McCormack. It reminded me a bit of the foul on Caddis that never was at AFC Wimbledon.

Still, to coin the cliche, sign of a good team is one that doesn't play well and still wins. Top of the league counts for nothing right now, but it sure feels good.

Two dodgy keepers in a row now at the CG.

If I was a Shrewsbury fan I'd be very pissed off tonight...but lucky I'm a Town fan so tough shit. They fucked all over us for the first hour. Our passing was woeful and we were hitting it long. they got the ball and played a bit like us but luckilly without a cutting edge.
Their goal was a shocker. the ball was headed in from 3 foot off the floor - our marking was shite.
I didn;t think any of our players shone in the first half but Bodin, Boateng, cox and Cibbochi were very poor.
the second half started the same. they had a stonewall penatly turned down and we kept 11 on the pitch. they then missed a couple of sitters. We then have a long range shot thats only grace was that it was on target and the keeper did the rest. Then we absolutely shat on them for the next 15. A fantastic shot from Rooney hit the post / crossbar and Connell scored his second with a combined distance of probably 4 yards.
Shrewsbury fans then kicked off a bit after Di Canio had saluted them or was he taking the piss out of them. They were singing songs about him wanking off his dog but I didn't hear anything naughty but i was in the DRS.
Not a great game but a great result.
If we can play like that and take out a decent team like Shrewsbury then we're up bar the shouting.

Great three points but not our best proformance of the season. Credit to the Shrews who in the first half wanted It more than we did. Was the Booing loud on the radio as it only seemed like a few fuckwits in the Ground, half time 1-0 down in a top of the table clash after an amazing un beaten run and a few pricks thought booing was justified. the league table looks very nice tonight.

Ol' Ian Longdon on BBC Radio Wiltshire is keen to highlight the fact that the referee is a Wiltshireman.

What are the rules?
We have had refs from Stroud, Gloucester, Bath and Bristol in the past and most of those places are closer to Swindon than Salisbury  :smugfu:

Funny how stats are misleading isnt it.

According to BBC stats we had more posession, more corners and more shots.

Mind you it also says we've won 5 in a row and that we paid £120k for Connell.  Are either of those right?

There is no doubt we were fortunate to keep 11 men on the pitch, but I do wonder if the two blatant dives by them before the incident with Alan Mac had any influence on the referee.

We were also fortunate to only be 1-0 down, before their keeper bobbled the shot to Connell for the equaliser, but after that I thought we looked much better.

And to those that booed the team at half time, get a fucking grip, I think the team are entitled to a poor performance after the great run they have had

One thing before I retire, turners comments at the end of the match would surely get Pdc in trouble if he were to say the same. To comment that the ref is from wilts is surely implying that not only did he get things wrong but he's corrupt. That's surely a step further than is acceptable? I'm not saying the decision wasn't questionable but the inherent implication in saying the ref is from Wiltshire? I'm sure he'll be fine though. He's not all foreign and flappy armed.

Does anyone know how this years team is faring against Lou Macari's team that got 102pts? We must be on about the same sort of total for games played by now?

Three points fewer, same number of games.

http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/LeagueTable.asp?Date=1986-2-22

In fact, on this day in 1986, we beat Preston 3-0.... and we were in the middle of what would become an eight game winning streak, the last time we won eight on the bounce before now. Oddly, only the first and last games of that run were at home, the six games in the middle of the run were all away!

Also strangely... we haven't played Preston since then... we've played all of the other 90 clubs in the league in one competition or another.

Shrews will feel hard done by to come away with nothing from that, played well, particularly their number 14 in midfield.

To nab the win felt so un-swindon like but what's that, 5 come from behind victories now this season? Impressive.

Alan Connell, supersub extraordinaire.

Everyone seems to be in unison more or less.  The first half was shit!  Personally, I thought only Cox came out of it with any glory, but even he made some pretty basic errors.  Bodin was lost.  Ritchie and Caddis never happened.  Smith was energetic, and fought (but mostly lost!!).  McCormack was crucial, as usual, but generally the defense looked very suspect (including Foderingham, who inexplicably kept trying to punch - and missed at least once, leaving an open goal.  Fortunately he was judged to have been fouled.)  Boateng was very uncomfortable.

To be fair, Shrewsbury were just much sharper. especially in the air - and (again for some reason) the ball was in the air out of defence most of the time.

Connell replacing Boding had an immediate effect, and he began to win balls, and he was linking with benson very effectively; but Ferry's appearance was crucial - as PdC said, less energy and more quality.  Suddenly the right wing looked much more dangerous, and the whole team gained in confidence as a result.  From the first goal there was a period when we were winning everything, and the crowd got really up for it.  After the second goal, PdC was despeartely trying to get them calmed down again, not altogether successfully, but by then it was written!

The penalty looked pretty clear from where I was, and PdC was completely calm, while Graham Turner was going completely mad.  There is no question that he should be reported if there is any consistency.  He was extremely aggressive at the time of the decision and at the end, when the stewards prevented him from getting to the referee.  Anyway, as someone else noted, the linesman did not flag, and the ref was not well placed to be certain of the foul.

Shrewsbury were big and tough, and on a couple of occasions looked pretty good on the ground, but it was not a great match......but as everyone else has said....Who cares?

The booing came from just behind me in the Arkells, and those concerned were quickly told to shut it by those around them.  the only Shrews chant I could make out was 'Paolo's Arsenal' - which on the first half account was not inaccurate!!!

Well, considering he couldn't move due to some sort of groin injury, surely it wasn't that puzzling ?

He was dominating our right side until then.

This, as well as the Connell and Ferry substitutions made the difference. I think we've caught up with the whole season's bad luck in one match, but winning breeds winning.

This from the Shrews forum

Quote
I have just sent this to the football league for comment i suggest others do the same so we don't have to face this problem again

"Having observed the game this evening from afar I couldn't get to the game please could you explain how a Wiltshire based referee is allowed to referee a game involving swindon who are Wiltshire's only league club.

It cannot be seen as being a clever decision in fact I would go as far as to suggest you have made a mistake.

Any decision now during that game brought raised eyebrows especially a clear penalty decision which if you see it you will realize my thoughts and need to send you this email.

even more important from an honest football fan is to receive your thoughts on this matter.

I await with interest."

I appreciate they're not happy, but you'd think at this stage of the season they would've worked out that the more plausible theory for shockingly bad decisions is that refs are just dogshit in this league.

Well done to the cocks who booed the team off at half time.

I kind of read the boos as a way of venting frustration as a "you're better than that" boo, but not as "you're shit" boos. I'm not getting that across well, it makes sense to me. I am trying to say that I think those booing would gladly sing the praises of the team even thought they booed. Unlike last season when booing meant they'd quite happily kicked the useless sack of shits in the nads.

And no I did not boo. This year they deserve everyone to sing their hearts out for them. Unfortunatley I think I have the Ebola virus. All I could do was it and not throw up.

Strange subdued atmosphere at the start of the game last night, even before Town had chance to fail to impress. Liveneed up in the second half.

On Boateng, think he struggled with the pace of the game. No way would even a mediocre centre back missplace so many headers if up to speed. NOt having a pop at him by the way.

If we lost a vital game, and the ref was local, I bet most would moan on here.

Too right. I was spitting feathers as it was when Caddis didn't get a penalty at Wimbledon. If it turned out the ref was 'local' I'd have been furious.

Yesterday rather than being biased  I think he was just another in a long line of shit refs. Very lenient.

Since when has Salisbury been 'local' to us anyway?  OK, it's Wiltshire - but that means nothing.  Swindon is 42 miles from Salisbury - further away than Southampton (23 miles), Bournemouth (28 miles) and even Portsmouth (41 miles).  The idea that the ref was going to favour us because he's from Salisbury is laughable.

Not trying to say it wasn't a red, after all McCormack seems to think it was so it almost certainly was. Just that we might be being a bit harsh on the ref and if anybody is to blame, it's the lino.

I still think calling Salisbury 'local' to Swindon is a bit strange. There are at least four football league clubs closer to Salisbury than STFC. By all means ask the question, but to accuse the ref of corruption and blame him for the result based on the fact he lives 'only' 40-odd miles away is going a bit far.

Oh and a very special mention must go to Alan Mcloughlin who had not a good word to say about Boateng (who he consistently called Botang) and also that every time Cibocchi kicked the ball was criticising him, and both commentators made a point of saying that EVERY time he kicked the ball he didn't kick it to a red shirt he hoofed it up the field. Wether that is true or not I dont know as I wasn't there but they kept pointing it out over and over, almost like an attack on Cibbo.

Alan Mac also had not a good word to say about Alan McCormack, after the foul that wasn't given he actually stated that Alan mcCormack will never make a good centre back and should revert to midfield.....I am sorry Alan mac thats just fucking wrong.

Then near the end of the game Alan Mac stated that Alan McCormack was actually having quite a good game.......make you mind up and don't be so contradictory.

Oh and he also said that Foderingham was not looking that good at the back and shakey whenever the ball was played in the box.

I am rapidly falling out of love for the ex town hero.

I just think there was general panic around the defence last night.  Because of Boateng not really knowing when to go or stay as PDC alluded to, we saw Wes coming to try and claim balls in other circumstances he woudnt have done because he was unsure what was going to happen infront of him.

100% spot on mate.  The second we went 1 down I turned to mate and told him to wait for the half time boos.  There were two fellas infront of me who were booing and hadnt been to a game all season and then proceded to spend the rest of the game maoning how shit we were, and how they wish they'd stayed at home etc ..... I wanted to tell them I wish they'd stayed at home .... But they were bigger than little old me!!

Yesterday was tough on Boateng.  As PDC alluded to in his interview maybe as he wasnt entriely sure when to go get the ball, or when to back off.  But that led to McCormack having to cover for him a fair bit and on a few occasions saw Wes coming to try and claim balls in the box he wouldnt normally have come for.  He has a turn of pace that gave our defence a different option.  But for a player out of the Arsenal academy his passing was shocking.

We looked miles more solid when Risser came on.

He is realistically now behind Devera, Flint, Risser and even Cibocci for a center back spot and hence think we may not see him again for a while.  So expect him to start on Saturday.

I was delighted for Risser though last night.  He has taken alot of stick, a fair bit of it deserved but he really calmed us down at the back last night and the last 15 were as comfortable as could have been!!

No excuse to boo at all imo. Even if we lost last night the side shouldn't have been booed. Those lads are giving it everything and you cannot ask for more than that.

Boateng isn't good enough to play based on last night, but you don't come through Arsenal if you cannot head the ball or pass it. Infact you wouldn't come through any pro club if that were the case. Good sides force errors and Shrewsbury are a good side. Nerves, the players around you struggling, not being 100% sure of what to do in situations and making an error and not quickly putting that right can ruin a player on the night. Football is all about confidence i am sure that was the main factor for Boateng's performance.

I've looked at the video of the "Penalty" incident dozens of times now, and it confirms my initial "gut reaction" last night...the contact (clip of the foot) was outside the box, and the players momentum caused him to fall inside the box.  as a result, it SHOULD have been a free-kick and a red card.  However, how many times has a decision like that gone against us this sesason?

As for the rest of the game, Shrewsbury were the only team in in for the first 50-55 mins, and thier gameplan seemed to consist of get it up front as quickly as possible to the attackers who had the pace to cause us some damage.  Last season we could have been 3 or 4 down before the point that we woke up yesterday.  They are a useful team, and I can see them being in the play-off mix come the end of the season.  Not sure I would want to watch every week the amount of "long ball" they played last night though, but perhaps we are spoiled by the stuff we have been seeing this season.

I thought Risser looked like a rock when he came on (very sensible substutution to make) and Ferry was his normal livewire self even though he is recovering from illness.

All in all, very happy to take a fortunate 2-1 win, 'cos last season we would have been on the end of an absolute spanking!

Could Risser be the new McCormack? I always thought as he was good in the air and relatively calm that he would make a better CB. He's quite slow though isn't he?

No (in my opinion). Risser looked OK at CB, but McCormack reads the game superbly. Not sure Risser has that.

I'll be happy when Devera/Flint are fit again.

I agree, up until the penalty incident, and for some reason that woke them up and got them doing what what they are good at - playing it on the floor with pace.

I think it was as others pointed out, a combination of bringing on Ferry and them losing the left back that shut Ritchie out the game.

Isn't it great to have Rooney on the left too. De Vita has been very good this season and still has a big part to play. But having another more attacking option gives the opposition a double headache.

I was thinking the same.  Looking at the fixture list a few weeks back and seeing those three games looming up was quite daunting.  To have taken 9 points from those games is nothing short of outstanding.  Got to keep the momentum going, though.  Still only February!

Risser does lack place and I think he could be found out if he started as centre back every game.  He did well last night though and is an excellent option as cover on the bench either to fill in at centre back or midfield if things need changing.  His height and ability in the air is also a bonus.

Tough game or the lad yesterday and was not the only one struggling. Needs work and has played in 2 difficult games but too soon to write him off.

We will win the league easily. Saturday's and last night's are 6 points gained the hard way. Happy days

Shrewsbury fans moaning about it being a penalty, it cleary wasn't, the challenge starts outside the box and his momentum brought him into the box. The player who was through on goal had done a couple of dives beforehand and that could of been on the referee's mind.

To clarify, I'm not sure it was him that had dived before, but there were deffinately a couple of instances right in front of the DRS where their players dived.

And to be fair to the Ref, it was a quick break & he would have needed help from the Lino to make the decision.  That said, my initial reaction was that it was a foul

Incredible game, thought we were really poor for about 60 minutes. Fothers made a brilliant save at 1-0 but McCormack should've been sent off. Still can't believe we went on and won, we had a a spell after our equaliser we looked a different side. Also loved Cibbochi's tweets, comedy gold! He must have touched the ball more than anyone yesterday, was like a magnet to the ball haha.

Honestly think we'll win the league, these past two games should've been our 'blip' but we played poorly and won both games.

Great time to be a town fan.

Still don't quite know how we won that game last night. We were nowhere near as good as we can be, but we can't play our best every game, especially when we are playing so many games at the moment. What is really impressive is that we still managed to get the win and the table looks quite nice!

Shrewsbury looked like a good team and they should have been out of sight before we got the equaliser. Definite foul and red card but was outside the box.

Can you imagine the reaction if this had happened last Tuesday against Crawley with Steve Evans? I saw Graham Turner on Sky Sports News and was obviously still angry but was calm and measured about what happened. Having met some Shrews fans up there in August you get the impression they are a proper club with a history and a manager who has done his time in the lower leagues and higher for the best part of 30 years.

Would say on the pen shout or not, is that we had definite pens turned down at Macclesfield and Wimbledon away so maybe it's time one went in our favour

How Turner could describe the Macca incident as a blatant penalty and a sending off is beyond me.Firstly, it was outside the box and looks more like Gornell allowed himself to be touched by Macca(excuse the euphamism)so that he could go down. He'd already dived earlier in the half and play was waved on so ref gave us the benefit of the doubt.Notice that Turner made no mention of the tap on Smith on the edge of the box that looked as "blatant".Win some lose some as we had to at D and R and Cheltenham earlier in the season when we had good shouts for penalties

Turner alo said the only person in the ground that didn't think it was a penalty was the ref, he obviously forgot the Lino who also thought otherwise. At the time I thought it was a foul but that it was outside the area, Now ive seen the replay the first contact if any is definitely outside the box.

Re Boateng, I think I can see Paolo's thinking in playing an inexperienced defender. As things stand, McCormack is there to act as an experienced, cool headed back stop to any fuck up's Daniel may make and to advise him/ shout at him to get him into position/ shape. Better to play someone lacking experience with the back stop than have to throw him into the fray in the event that McCormack is suspended/ injured and out of the picture before Flint returns. Get some experience under his belt and develop his abilty whilst he is not a vital replacement.

I' ve only two slight critisicms(sp) of Wes one is the sometimes weak punching,( which he has been doing all the way through since he joined, it's not a recent thing) the second is he frequently drops kicks from outside of the area, I'm surprised he hasn't been pulled up for it yet. Say what you like about the referee but Shrewsbury would have won had it not been for slack goalkeeping and static defending.

Also, there's not many people south of Warminster (a few regiments in training and hippies at Stonehenge) so it's understandable why Salisbury folk follow the Haaaaaampshire clubs.

I'm a lifelong Town fan from Salisbury, but don't dispute your point. Was always annoying growing up explaining why I didn't support Saints or Pompey or Man Utd. I live in Singapore now and I think there's more Swindon fans here then there are in South Wilts.

First post by the way. Bit uncomfortable, didn't really know what I was doing, but will always look back on it fondly.

Singapore (Singers) cracking run ashore, four floors of whores springs to mind!  :)

Brilliant that the first two things mentioned in regard to Singapore are the four floors of whores and the floating football pitch. I've played in (on) both of those recently!

Ha ha.  First the guy says "I will cover the deficit" then he cancels the coach

He says "Just shy by 4people to cover the cost of coach...", then he says "...unfortunately due to a severe lack of interest the coach...has been cancelled."

How small is the coach?

Joking aside, with Blackburn only 5 miles away, you've got to hand it to Accy Stanley supporters - real supporters.

I think the first comment was with regards to Crewe, and only the second one was about Swindon.

Sorry to spoil the fun.

Turner's on FLW on Sky in a few minutes spouting the 'it was a blatant penalty and a sending off' line...

Can somebody please show him a still image proving the tackle was outside the box? Ta.

It should have been a red card. But it wasn't given. Shrewsbury should have responded by continuing to pressure us into another mistake, since they had a stranglehold on the game. Instead, they fell to pieces at the back allowing us to pile on the pressure and score two avoidable goals.

Good win for yous and its nice to see yous on top of the league, hopefully yous stay there.
Cant see anything but a comfortable Swindon win tomorrow. Accrington have been in poor form and their new manager Paul Cook is a total clueless clown. He was managing in League of Ireland the last few years and was nothing but a chancer.Think he will make Accrington alot worse than they were. I will predict a 3-0 victory for Swindon tomorrow  :D

Ha cool! Should have pointed out in my 1st post I wasnt Bristol Rovers seeing as they are big rivals. Being a big fan of Italiian football and Di Canio I am delighted to see Swindon doing really well and doing it in style playing nice football, not hoofball like alot of Irish/UK teams seem to love so much! Best of luck for the season, would love to see yas promoted and winning the JP Trophy at Wembley.

I've got an Irish grandmother*, and I've never been to Ireland, so why haven't I been called up by the ROI FA?

(Clones in case you wondered, which makes in mandatory to mention Barry McGuigan).

Anyway, nice to have another international fan on here. That's Norway, Ireland and erm.
