Title: Football Bets
Post by: dell returns on Saturday, February 11, 2012, 11:55:13
I'm having a little flutter today:
Always looking for value these are my selections:

Torquay/Shrewsbury draw 5/2
Burnley to win at Southampton 4/1

Double pays  17.5

Treble
Leeds 6/5
Bristol Rovers 5/4
Millwall 6/5

the three above with Middlesbro 12/5 in a 4-fold

I went for that. Kind of softens the blow that all my other bets have gone tits up. A whopping £2 up at the moment but still a couple of horses to run.

This Friday its the 1st week of the League of Ireland and here is my advise on how to win a lot of money.

STEP 1: Get a wheelbarrow
STEP 2: Fill the wheelbarrow to the top with money.
STEP 3: Bring the wheelbarrow to your bookies and place it on a double Shamrock Rovers to beat Drogheda Utd and Derry City to beat Bohemians.
STEP 4: Sit back and enjoy both teams winning easily.
STEP 5: Enjoy a nice steak and some champagne out of the winnings!

I'm sure not many here would know about LOI so Derry City are 1 of the best teams in the league and should finish top 3 while Bohs have a very inexperience team and will be shite this season. In the other match Shamrock Rovers are champions and best team in the league and have strengthened the squad while Drogheda look in a bad way. The double works out at 6/5, Derry 8/13 and Shamrock Rovers 4/11

I got on this earlier, still 16s available in certain places. They've still got to play Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. Should get a good run out of it.

Shrewsbury to beat Crawley 13/10

Only the final one outstanding .... Be typical of my luck if India chase down 321.

I've got a fiver on Man City (PL), Soton (Champs), Swindon (D2) and Barca (CL) - gets me about £850. I think Scummers are going to blow it for me.

Just checked my account on this - looks like I did it e/w so if it comes in thats £1772   :)

This leaves me in turmoil as I want West Ham to go up so they don't sack Big Sam but I need Soton to win the title.

Stick to what you know son .....

The county cricket starts this week.  The matches are always worth a look ....

As you dont get a price on the draw, if a match you select finishes in a draw the match get voided.  I will pick a winner from all seven games starting on Thursday .... If 3 win and 4 draw, the 4 draws get cancelled and you pick up the treble!

i know fuck all aboubt cricket, but if you wanna give me some tips if the moneys rigth i'll give it a go.

For the matches starting on Thursday:

Notts to bt Worcs                     4/9
Somerset to bt Middlesex           8/15
Surrey to bt Sussex                  4/7
Northants to bt Derbyshire          4/7
Essex to bt Gloucestershire         8/15
Glamorgan to bt Leicestershire     8/11
Yorkshire to bt Kent                    8/15

£25 would return assuming all win ... £555.27

Obviously you have to adjust the figure for any draws/voids.

The emphasis on winning (after United dick QPR) will be so huge that City will bottle it.

Arsenal can play without pressure today, the easiest run in to the end of the season, win lose or draw.

Wenger will want to see United win title. Besides all the mercenaries who left the Emirates, be nice for AFC to shove it down the throats of them players that they are actually at a smaller but richer club sat on the bench.

I got 18/1 on Steve Kean to be the next manager to leave their job in the Premiership just before they lost to Liverpool, which I put quite a bit on.
Thought that was very generous considering who their owners are and they were still in relegation when those odds were on offer. Also the bet doesn't include Terry Conner as he's only a caretaker manager. Fingers crossed their players keep refusing to play for him!

Bloody West Ham :badmood:

Cost me and a mate - thousands !!    literally  >:(

Pre-season we put on a bet to predict the winners of each league -

Man Utd

West Ham

Charlton

Town

For a tenner we'd have scooped £2600 !!  As I put it at fiver/each way we'd still have won £600 if they came second

But no, barring a miracle and Saints crash and burn - we aint gonna get a bean !!

Still, not the end of the world, as I had £25 on Town to win the title at 10-1 so (hopefully) will do nicely out of that.

I never back odds on - in the last eight seasons I have always made a profit at the end of the season on football bets, this might of course go pearshape, but hey ho.

Cant understand people betting odds on when there is so much value in odds against in football bets, remember a treble wins money, and if you only hit one treble in four weeks you still win.

Not sure what you mean.
If you mean do I just take bets, then no.
Betting is in the blood and I like all punters have a dabble.

If you want to have a bet and you have serious money then I'll lay it, not in the habit of laying bets for 50p or £5. The more you want to back in money the lower the odds seem to attract a punter.
Without doubt the best value in gambling is football bets, where else will you get two possible winners in a three horse race when in some cases are all odds against.

If I've not made myself clear about footie bets, look at Arsenal v Chelsea tomorrow, who do you fancy?

If you shop around you can get Arsenal at 11/8
The draw at 11/4
Chelsea at 10/3

back any two from three and you win, great value if you are prepared to fork out serious money

if your new to online betting then go thought looking for the free bet jobbies, bet365, skybet, paddy power, william hill, bet fred, bet fair, 888, ladbrooks. to name a few, most of these will have a free matched bet, some, such as Skybet are promoting a 100% free £10 bet for signing up.

The thing is with these free bets, you need to wager some of that to withdraw anything don't you?

The trick is to lay the same result at the exchange at the same or similar odds. You lose on one but win the other, therefore losing a tiny amount of cash (the commission at the exchange more often than not).

Do the same with the free bet when you get it, but because it is free money at the bookies you are guaranteed a profit.

e.g. initial bet £20 at bookies at evens would mean you win £20 or lose £20. The same bet laid at the exchange at the same odds would mean you lose £20. Effect = lose £20 at the exchange but gain £20 at the bookies = £0 profit/loss.

Free bet of £20 at bookies at evens would mean you win £20 or lose £0. Lay this bet at the exchange for £10 at the same odds. Win at the exchange you make £10, lose the lay and you're £10 down.
Effect = lose £10 at the exchange but make £20 at the bookiers = £10 profit or vice-versa.

Obviously a very simple example assuming the free bet pays out at low odds (you may need higher than evens) and doesn't take into account the commission at the exchange. But there are online calculators which work out what you need to stake to maximise profit.

Open an account with coral and boylesport.  Look out for evening greyhound markets.  Sometimes they let you bet on the race after it has finished (only on races which are not live at the bookmakers).  Stick a £10 forecast on the first two dogs, usually pays anywhere between £90-£500.
The bookies always pay out and never cotton onto the fact that you have placed a bet 1 minute after the off time.

Skybet and totesport used to be the same, but they have changed their software recently (probably after realising i spunked then for a few grand )

I just tried without making an account, but it says it has already started, and then the odds get greyed out.

No all the races run today are live at the bookmakers and they provide prices so you won't be able to bet after the event

On Tuesdays theire are races at Poole which arent broadcast live at the bookies.  So you may have a chance.  However in the last 3 weeks ive only managed to do one late bet which won me £200.  Unfortunately you will have to sit on your pc all night and hopefully come across a race which you can place a late bet on

www.24dogs.com is a good site for quick results

Title: Re: Football Bets
Post by: Stef Troll on Monday, April 23, 2012, 17:31:12
Yes as they will only let you bet on the event untill their system stops you (ie it greys out like you experienced).

Usually you can get a result 1 minute after the race.  If you bet on an event 15 minutes after its finished, your more likely to be caugyty

Title: Re: Football Bets
Post by: pericarp on Monday, April 23, 2012, 17:32:46
You mentioned using it showing prices for ones that don't work.

So it should say SP or whatever, if it stands any chance of working?

Yes

Its not odd for online bookies to pay winning bets of between £100-£600.   If you start winning £2,000 on a bet, they will probably investigate your account

Title: Re: Football Bets
Post by: Stef Troll on Monday, April 23, 2012, 17:35:23
If it shows prices it means the bookies have a feed to the race.  As a result they will close the race when the race is just about to start (to prevent any late bets).  If it shows SP all the time, it means they dont have a feed.

Again i cant promise you that this will happen for a while (otherwise i wouldnt have bothered broadcasting it on here as everyone would do it).  However if your patient and know what races to look for, you will make a fair wack in the long run

I've done it for a while. Worst case scetnario I've had is they have closed my account down - but never asked for any money back. I just opened in friends name and go 50-50 with them. As I said you can't do it everyday and an oppurtunity like tonight may not come up now for a few weeks. If it was a daily event then I wouldn't broadcast on here

Weird.

Why don't you do a tricast? Again, due to the suspicion?

On which note people on twitter should follow @paddypower. They intermittently offer enhanced odds not available through the website, which if one were inclined could be laid off on an exchange for a locked in profit. For example they just had Liverpool to beat Norwich boosted to 5/2, which is currently just above evens on Betfair.

Disagree, the price difference is enough for you to make about a tenner a go out of it. Worth 30 seconds of mouse clicking for 10 quid of free money imho.

One final thing.

On coral, when it says "X has started", but you have clicked the bet which is SP, will it work?
Or must it not even say "X has started" for it to work?

Haven't made my account yet.

Well, Skybet are offering 10/1 for us to win League 1 with a quarter odds for promotion - so 5/2

Crap odds in my opinion - I wont be betting on us unless I can get 16/1 minimum

What odds for England NOT to get out of the group? Usually Bookmakers in England give shit odds for England to win the whole tournament so would be hoping that they would be pricing this with St George Cross specs on.

You get the shit odds because of the patriotic punter!  And the bookies having to react to this on the off chance England pull something off.

I remember Pre World Cup 2006 I was in Germany and England were virtually double the price they were in England!

I'd say that from all the bets i've ever made it is around 60/40 in favour of the bookie. I'm happy with that and bet for the fun of it. Getting the days of healthy returns makes it worthwhile i think

Don't get me wrong arriba, I have nothing against gambling and understand some simply have fun doing it. I make a couple of bets a year just for fun. I made about £540 profit from our promotion and beating Vale comprehensively.

Some people do become addicted to it though and waste their lives doing it. I've seen it first hand with my grandad losing everything and another member of my family constantly making silly bets to make a tiny return, which should they win, they then squander on the next 'sure thing'. (£500 on Man u for the title just before kick off against Man C...)

Personally I have too great an attachment to money to gamble. I also hate losing more than I could ever enjoy winning! :)

Russia 7/5
Poles 11/10

Asking if bets are good ideas aint a good idea. Just stick up stuff you've backed or fancy.

I'm going for spain win and ireland draw double today. Once i know the teams will do some goal scorer bets too. Had a good last couple of days so hope to keep up the streak

That was against Belguim, hardly a world class team or defence. Hes done nothing this season to warrant getting picked over Rooney or Carroll.

Think he has 15-16 goals in about 50-60 appearances.

Edit: Yes i forgot Rooney is suspended

Not sure the Ukies will keep a clean sheet, Shovkovsky out injured.  Could Yarmolenko be the lad to set up the goals though?  If you want a Ukraine win, maybe 3-1 could be the shout.

Fancy a few bets on the quarter finals.

Nasri to score first and Spain to win 2-1 seems to have very good odds of 110/1 at Coral.

Gerrard to score first and 1-1 is 45/1 and Podolski to score first and 4-0 Germany is 70/1.

But of course don't actually put money on any of the above because I am by no means an acclaimed gambler. In fact my track record is awful.

Bolton
Sheff Utd & Swindon
Rotherham
Luton

And what odds on an accumulator?

Thanks in advance.

Title: Re: Football Bets
Post by: kerry red on Thursday, June 21, 2012, 15:59:23
OK

These are the best prices available and not necessarily with the same bookie

Bolton 9/1
Sheff Utd 6/1
Swindon 11/1
Rotherham 7/2
Luton 7/2

If you had an accy on Bolton Swindon Luton Rotherham it would be 2429/1 at the prices quoted

Obviously be less with Sheff Utd instead of Swindon.

You would, of course, have to place an accy with just one bookied and those best odds would not be available on all your chosen teams

If you had an accy on Bolton Swindon Luton Rotherham it would be 2429/1 at the prices quoted

Prior to the start of last season I was toying with putting on a big accumulator bet and covering it various ways but decided against it in the end. I was going to go for; Man City, Southampton, Charlton, Swindon, Celtic - honest to god. Obviously (and thankfully) Southampton fucked it up but I'd have still been about £5k to the good.

Really fancy Northampton to beat Wimbledon this weekend at 4/5.  Biggest bet of the season to date.

Northampton had a good start to the season, and have only lost 1 game (away to Plymouth).  But this game was 2 days after their cup game with Wolverhampton.

AFC Wimbledon always concede lots of goals, and have lost 5-1 and 6-2 in their 2 away games this season !

Rochdale at 5/6 should beat Daggenham.  Daggenham are another team struggling at the moment

Reading through this thread, should anyone be taking any account of the fact that veeeeery few of these accumulators seem to have come in? Just saying like.

I have no need to take my bets into account, they rarely win. The way I see it is if I spend a few quid here and there I’d have only spent the money on something else. I don’t think I’ve bet a stake of more than a fiver for a good year or so.

I think last time I won a results based multiple was about 2 years ago and it was a very tidy treble. I also ‘won’ on a Ladbrokes safety net bet thing (where one result in the accy lost but they still pay out on the others), but the odds are shit and it’s not really something I’d do again.

My betting is very sporadic these days, for little money and is just a bit of fun to make a few quid if I get lucky.

Does anyone with Sky and a Skybet account take advantage of the loyalty bonus that essentially gives you £20 off your Sky bill?

Basically, opt in, and every time you bet £10 on sport, you get a stamp; 5 stamps = £5 off, up to the maximum of £20. Bet on live football when a team is 2+ nil up and Bob's your uncle. Tiny winnings (not important), but £20 off your Sky.

This came in today - both teams to score, courtesy of @FootyAccums.

Plymouth v Southend
Huddersfield v Watford
Gillingham v Rochdale
Burton Albion v Northampton
Sheff Utd v Notts County
Burnley v Millwall
Fulham v Man City

Very modest returns as I'm only a marginally bigger better than SWS, but pleasing none the less. Also had Man City, Everton and Sunderland all to win too, thanks to Andy Gray for that.

Fifteen fold accumulator compromising of 7 teams to win and 8 both team to score bets.  I write down my bets on a bit of paper like the anal chimp I am, but forgot to include my bet of Hartlepool vs Coventry (both teams to score).  All of my other 14 calls came in, leaving me thinking I'd won £1100 off a 50p bet.

Walsall are utter dogshite though.

I watched the Football League show and it looked like Fabian Brandy gave Crawley the runaround on Saturday and were unlucky not to come away with all 3 points.

I reckon it'll be a draw and we'll hopefully close some of the gap with Tranny if we win.

What odds did you get was it just a double?

The odds were roughly 2/1. Seemed a great price at the time  ::)

However I had a scattergun approach to backing many of the long odds priced sides in the FA Cup, which meant that Macc and Oldham winning overall put me into profit. Phew. Sticking it all on some random games on the Continent.

If we take it seriously, must have a good chance.

Also, gut feeling tells me that Walsall to win away at Orient this weekend (7/2) will pay dividends if doubled up with a cert(?) home win somewhere.

I've gone for a 4-timer

Swindon 2/1
Walsall 7/2
Bristol City 6/5
Hartlepool 6/4

I put a lay on them early on in the season when they drew their first 4 games (and forgot about until the other day). I've hedged with whatever I had in my Bet365 account. Similarly I forgot about Coventry to make top 6 elsewhere, I've just had to write that one off.

Still think Utd will nick in there and probably go on to win. 25/1 for promotion is probably worth a punt.
