Title: Deadline Day Thread
Post by: Costanza on Monday, January 30, 2012, 19:15:36
I thought it would be prudent to give the next 24 hours it's own thread (feel free to merge this if necessary).

Judging by Gary Rose's message on Twitter earlier it would appear that any deal for Lee Cox is pending the departure of contracted players.

Has there been any updates regarding Mattia Lanzano and Etienne Esajas? I assume we're looking to offload the latter but if he's injured then there's little chance of that happening unless we pay him off.

Lanzano's exit has been long drawn, I hope we are able to let him go as he really is deadwood now.

Billy Bodin - I suppose is based on whether Torquay/whoever and Swindon can agree a fee.

A new centre forward would be good but I think there's goals from Benson and whoever he partners.

It's bizarre that we rearranged the Southend game for Deadline Day, I can only imagine that the club believed they would have their deals in place by now.

Elsewhere. I think replacing Matt Tubbs with Frank Nouble is a bit of a risk.

Southend signed Pat Baldwin today which I think is a decent enough addition for them.

BBC RS said Kerouche could be on his way too. We must have another striker lined up, we'll see if it goes through.

Bodin & Kerrouche look to be the only 2 outgoings tomorrow but even then this may not come off.

Lanzano won't leave neither will Esajas their getting paid for doing nothing.

I'm assuming everyone knows that Bournmouth have signed Tubbs from Crawley for £800k
I assume that at least means Ritchie and Caddis won't be going to Bournemouth.

Which I'm sure most will agree, is good news

Crawley made a profit of around £745,000 for Tubbs. I wonder what sort of figure Swindon would have placed for him if indeed we were interested?

Had a crap day at work - (9-5 job turned into 8am-7.15pm).

My mood just got a lot better though with the Matt Tubbs transfer news.

What next for Crawley ?? Sell the ground to Tesco ??

I think they will start to slide  :bye:

From Saturday :

BBC football pundit Steve Claridge on the fourth round's biggest shock: "They've got money, Crawley, and they'll be hoping for a big match in the fifth-round draw. Crawley are not going to let a Championship side like Hull get away with not playing their best."

Says how much Claridge knows about league football...

Its to much money for tubbs, he's 27, they're not even buying a player who scores lot and has potential, this is the prime of his career! Glad we didnt get him, if indeed we did bid for him.

Seems the cox deal is dependent on out goings? unless a striker is more of a priority and PDC doesnt want to max the budget on another midfielder, so is holding for departures so he can get both?

Would really like a physical forward in, not sure who exactly but someone as dont like the idea of Magera playing if Benson is injured or at 32 cant play every game

Yes, but I've been disappointed enough to see such statements become meaningless before. Clearly we'd sell at less than 10M, it just a matter of where.

Latest tweet was STFC "are putting up a fight" to keep Ritchie. Hopefully that means this time we ARE serious and have told them to get stuffed.

I'm struggling to see the attraction myself. Yep, it's a nice place live, but I'm pretty sure B'mth will still be League 1 next season.
It's either the Russian throwing money at it(I heard that he didn't want to be spending much of his own cash) or they are using the cash they got from dismantling the squad in the summer

Unless...Rooney is being seen as a replacement.  All hypothetical right now, but let's suppose Ritchie does go (and that's by no means certain, or even likely, at the moment).  It's not as if we haven't bought any players in recently.  In terms of depth, our squad is as healthy as it's been for a long time.  Rooney might well step up and become the new Matt Ritchie.  Not ideal to lose a player of MR's calibre at this point, but I'm not convinced it would spell disaster either.

Either way, I suppose we'll know soon enough whether there is any mileage in the rumours.  Swindon to Southend is a fairly long trip, and we'll hear soon enough if any of our key players haven't travelled with the rest of the squad.

I agree, moves like Cox to West Brom you can accept, he was clearly too good for the league he was in and moved on to a genuinley bigger club, biggers things, fulfill ambitions etc etc and I am sure 99% of town fans wished him well....but its moves like this that leave a real sour taste, since they are done for one reason and one reason only...

If Ritchie is to go, it has to be done early so we can us this money in other areas (i.e. striker, defender) within the time given.

What would we as a club consider silly money though? I know PdC has mentioned £10mill but in all honesty if they offer us anywhere over £1 mill would we say no?

Yes Ritchie is a massive part of the team and has more than done his fair share to get us where we are but hes still a league 2 player currently and we do have Rooney ready to take over if he does leave.

Often the chairman takes control of dealings like these so that it leaves the manager and players free to carry on with match preperation as normal.

I am sure that Paolo has told Jeremey Wray EXACTLY how much that he thinks is a suitable amount for Ritchie if such a bid comes in. Leaving early also gives the buying club plenty of time to get in contact with the player even after the players arrive should a suitable bid be accepted.

I think now that after the Cox signing that any players coming in will be after the loan window opens again next week.

I have a feeling as well that after Wrays comments about Kerrouche that no one is willing to take him on a permanant deal from us so we may well have to loan him out when the window opens again to get his wages off the wage bill.

Difficult to tell whether they even mean the already rejected offer or a new soon to be rejected offer.

Matt Ritchie's agent tells the Echo any potential move to #afcb is now dead, despite the player being left out of the #stfc squad tonight.

Don't think he is going anywhere and don't see any truth or reason in the rumours that he has been left out of squad. Roll on 11pm.

The club were quick to try and kill this off. Town were consistent throughout yet people still believed the Tweets of a local rag in Bournemouth over Swindon.

Everyone has a price but I am sure the club, like all of us, would rather have Swindon promoted (hopefully) and lose Ritchie for a cheaper price in the summer than cash in and lose one of our most creative players (preferably, we'd keep Ritchie if we went up).

... and welcome Coxy mk II.

Glad to see some of their fans are not exactly dancing with joy at the money being thrown about. I'd be quite uncomfortable if that were us, Munto finance should live long in the league's memory. Not to mention they must remember the state they were in what seems like about 2 weeks ago.

If it was 1.2 million, the board would have accepted it hands down. To get that much for a league 2 player would be brilliant business.

glad you're not in charge.

Agreed, £1.2m on Jan 1 maybe, but taking the money on the final day of the window would have been very poor business.

One factor that seems to keep getting overlooked is the salary cap. Even if we could identify 2 or 3 players to bring in with the fee, they would almost certainly not fit within the League 2 wage cap so we wouldnt be allowed to sign them anyway!

Ritchies value is only going to go one way between now and the summer, whatever we were offered (and I doubt it was as much as £1.2m anyway) will still be on the table in the summer, and possibly more.

Title: Re: Deadline Day Thread
Post by: Flashheart on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 11:17:28
We won't be able to get as much in the summer, prices aren't as inflated.

But hopefully that will be irrelevant anyway if we go up and get important contracts extended.

All in all a very satisfactory January.

Players in at the start of the month have already contributed to out points tally, and the later additions have given a welcome strength in depth.

The only shame is that one or two more widely seen as deadwood haven't moved out.

Good work Wray/Watkins/di Canio

Agreed, though we shouldn't forget this part isn't limited to the transfer window necessarily (cancel contract due to mutual agreement etc) so if we're lucky this could still happen for a few players.

Title: Re: Deadline Day Thread

DV...time to agree. It is now officially tomorrow!!

Now I agree. Top work Mr. Wray probably our best January window ever. Balls of steel.

That 1.2m for Ritchie, well even if you go on the assumption its 1.2m straight up (which I doubt it ever was) take out the 250k he cost anyway, then take out the cut I expect Portsmouth have (lets say 20% so roughly another 250k) Then all of a sudden you're looking 700k - a trip to potential trip to Wembley itself could probably pull in a chunk of that would be 700k - now whilst I dont think we are dependant on Ritchie to get there he'll obviously give us a better chance! Increased attendances, potentially another game on the box in the run in, the feel good factor going into next season, prize money - probably easily make the would be Ritchie money from sustaining our promotion push anyway.

I know alot of those are if, buts and wishy washy figures but you get the point.
