Title: Leicester Vs Swindon Official Matchday Thread.
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, January 28, 2012, 00:52:21
Just won in the second round on my football manager game so seemed a good moment to start this.

I don't know why but I have a funny feeling we'll win tomorrow.

Unlikely, but possible!

1-0 Town.

A draw would be the worst possible result for me. I'd imagine the replay would be televised (Paolo Di Canio show) and would net us a few extra pounds, but it would add to the games we need to play, push back the arguably more winnable JPT tie and leave us chasing the top three (maybe four if Shrewsbury win today) even further.

After reading the article I can see why Jeremy Wray and the board took the gamble on him.  His passion & determination is very contagious and has been key to our winning mentality this season so far.

The thought of him as one day being England Manager is pretty realistic because I believe one day he will be a great manager who achieves many great things.  I hope I am alive to see that day.  He'ld soon sort out some of them work shy bastards that pull on the England shirt at the moment too

I'm going for 2-2 with us coming from behind twice! Nobody would want a replay given our fixture congestion but it keeps the magic alive for a bit longer :-)

In may ways I think a JPT final would provide the perfect amount of reward/distraction payoff.

Leaving Nottingham for the game in about half to three-quarters of an hour & hoping to see a famous FA Cup shock!

I love cup games against more superior opposition. Zero pressure on us. Fingers crossed we give them a good go.

Exactly right, no pressure really today. Will be happy if we give a good account of ourselves and we avoid any injuries.

We are by no means being thrashed, if anything we are the better side overall, just missing out on the final ball and finish, otherwise we are better than Leicester.

They are a bunch of dirty cunts and should have had 2 reds, we can do this, just get the shots in, oh and a fantastic free kick from Cibbochi!

Konchesky dirty bastard should have been a straight red. Ciobochi could suprisingly turn out o be a half decent signing if he can maintain his performance.  Risser definitely improving too just don't let him shoot.

Hope Ferry's ok

Glad to have Mccormack back, the guy makes such a difference. Shame De Vita cant produce the same quality as ritchie, reckon Rooney may be playing a lot in the run in.

Connell and Benson could be a reasonable partnership i think.

Risser has done ok, but still feel smith gives us more mobility, we can break quicker, and he's much better on the ball

Interesting as whilst we didn't play badly, I thought that few of our players had fantastic games - they played well, but its pleasing that even not on top form we didn't get played off the park - and if we could finich who knows.

Leicester really are a 'couldn't cut it in the Premier League 11' how many of that team have played a few premier games and not been good enough and been sold back to Championship.

All in all - not bad

A valiant effort but today just wasn't our day.

A day of what could have been for me; had we converted one of a few decent chances, had the referee sent Konchesky off like he should have, had we marked Beckford properly for his first, then today might've gone very, very differently.

We lacked a cutting edge up front and weren't clinical enough in our finishing. Beckford's goals were both 'in the right place at the right time' finishes - something we lacked today. Very professional performance on their part; nothing special but doing enough, pretty much dominating possession and, of course, keeping us out with a sturdy defence and an exception Schmeichel.

Caddis and McCormack were the stand-out performers for me, both very consistent throughout with some brilliant tackles on Mac's part and some quite fantastic forward play from Caddis. Quiet game from Ferry and Benson and Connell were never given a chance by Mills and St Ledger. Gabilondo was poor when he came on, though Risser impressed me.

Overall, proud to be a Swindon fan after that performance. We didn't roll over for them, though the second goal killed anything we had to offer this afternoon. Means we can now concentrate on the league and the JPT which, in my opinion, are much, much more important! Onwards and upwards!

Played well. Unfortunately Leicester more clinical in front of goal on the day. Couldn't say there was much between the two teams in open play - certainly not a gulf of two divisions. Shows what a good squad PDC is developing. Thought McCormack was outstanding. Richie and Caddis bright and inventive as ever.

Seems like we gave a really good account of ourselves, so all credit to the lads and the supporters who were superb, as  always on the road.

It was a good run, which had to come to an end at sometime.  To be honest, as nice it would have been to progress, I think we'd all prefer us to concentrate 100% on the league, with the JPT thrown in for good measure.  The positive of Crawley winning could be that it distracts them and causes them to wobble further in the league.

We move on to Southend on Tuesday night, which is a real 6 pointer.  It will be interesting to see who Di Canio starts with.  Is Flint likely to be injured still?  Those who've watched the game today seem to have differing views on Risser, which was much the same as last Saturday.  Seems like he's going to be the player that causes the most division on opinion.  For the record, I'd pick Smith in front of him, as the midfield seems to work far better when he's there instead of Risser, but it's Di Canio who picks the team not me!

My biggest concern about today's loss is that Sir Suggs Will Suggs has also lost his unbeaten matchday thread starting.  Hopefully this will be exclusive to the FA Cup?!

- Hope that we can build the same sort of experience at Swindon.
- Not far off having a side that could compete in Championship. Would like players to share ambition and stay with Town
- Hoping to buy Cox on Monday. Need to juggle with wage cap
- Not much more coming in at this stage
- Flint picked up knock in week
- Kerrouche. Wray spoke to him. Needs to play football. Kerroosh wants to play for Swindon. Wray wants him out on loan to score goals and get back in PDC's plans

From what I saw from my jerky t'internet feed:

- there wasn't a gulf of 2 divs between up and IMO Leicester are a team on the up - pretty solid all round.
- Nobody was oustanding, but as a team we looked good and played the ball nicely and at a good tempo.
- Should have been a sending off
- Was pleasantly surprised with Cibbochi
- Shame we couldn't finish
- fans were amazing - very proud.

All in all not to fussed we are out - we have more important targets.

Konchesky's challenge was despicable. Could have ended Ferry's career.

What makes it worse is that there was no need for it. Had Ferry been a player breaking through for an equaliser with minutes to go, it might be 'understandable' (for want of a better word). There was no need for that challenge whatsoever. That he got away with it pisses me off. That he even thought off that challenge dwarfs the fact he was not sent off.

What an utter tosser.

after such an early goal I feared a mauling. credit the team for getting back into it. Leicester always looked dangerous coming forward though.

Alan mcc' was immense. afraid ciocbocci was out his depth but this was a big jump in quality of opposition. is Smith injured? not sure why he isn't staring right now.

but all in all a great effort.

I thought Cibocchi was poor today too. Defensively all over the place, crosses weren't beating the first man and, free-kick before half time aside, generally one of the weaker players today.

Thought we were the better team in the first half.
In the second half Leicester coped with us much better & looked the better team to be fair.

The lads never gave up, and I wouldn't want to point the finger at anyone today as they all put in plenty of effort. It is obvious that the step up in class was probably too much for one or two.

The fans were great today, and never gave up on the team.

I did have words with two silly old buggers behind me who pronounced that it was a waste of a trip when the team was announced without Flint.

They also commented every time that Risser, Cibocchi & Devera mis placed a pass that they were shit & shouldn't be playing.

You needed a second look to see how bad it was, ref must have had a similar view, hence just a yellow

I thought cio struggled positionally and with the pace if the game. but as I said, Leicester are a class above anything we have played except Southampton.

really wasn't having a go at risser, just felt we missed a bit of bite that May have upset them. against Southend out makes more sense to play risser given their more direct play.

absolutely right the players didn't give up. fantastic.

It was more that they had decided before a ball was kicked that we had no chance as Devera was useless.

The funny thing is that the two players that polarize opinion so much, were the two that came closest to scoring (Two great saves from Schmeichel).

Didn't listen or watch the game today but by the sounds of it(from the post match interviews)it went how i expected it to. A plucky dispaly with a great following from us but the inevitable defeat. Nice to hear Louis Thompson got on. He is a tough little bugger and it won't faze him. Hope he did ok

...and doesnt he look like his brother to! I saw them both the other day and had to do a double take to work out which one was which.

is Smith injured? not sure why he isn't staring right now.

Nope, nothing wrong with Smith. We all know Di Canio is some what of a perfectionist and isnt afraid to take players off or drop them after mistakes. Smith gave away the free kick that lead to the goal at Barnet and then got dropped (his words give or take a few) and Risser has come in and done well and kept his place.

top lad though Smith, very humble, very genuine and very hungry to succeed 'when york told me Swindon were interested I would have run to Swindon to sign right away'

Reject interest from Morcombe, AFC Wimbledon and Crawley.

Well, back from the game & will share a few thoughts. We conceded the first goal far too early & struggled to get our rhythm back for a while afterwards. As the ball came over from the left the defenders didn't go to claim it & make it their own. Beckford did little but given a half chance like that he buried it. However, all credit to the team because they kept their cool & by half time were the team going forward & making the best moves & making Schmeichal earn his corn.

Second half was a much more even game although it wasn't until the final 20 minutes that Wes had a real shot to save. Credit Leicester City though, they were content to retain the ball, pass it back & wait for opportunities to arise. I had expected much more creativity from them although their injury list may have had something to do with it.

Regarding the Town players, they all played reasonably well.  Whilst Devera doesn't dominate to the extent Flint does he certainly didn't let the side down. The midfield was certainly a match for Leicester & were probably the more creative unit.  Benson & Connell worked their socks off but the Leicester defenders were a step up from what they normally face & so they made little impact. Despite a generally solid game, I did think Cibbocci was at fault for the second goal though.  Having got the ball to break up a Leicester attack he somehow conspired to lose it again, the ball was crossed & Leicester scored their second - game over!  However, McCormack was hugely impressive.  He was reading passes that even the Leicester players were not anticipating - for me head & shoulders above anyone else on the field today.

The withdrawal of Ferry was clearly done in anticipation of Tuesday's game & young Louis Thompson came on. He certainly didn't look overawed & always found a red shirt with his passing.  Definitely one for the future. The town fans were superb, singing & chanting for the whole ninety minutes but especially after the goals had been conceded, trying to lift the team's spirits. We have gone out of the cup but we matched our Championship opposition and leave with heads held high.

It was a poor start from us, really sloppy and you wondered if we might crumble. But thankfully we showed the spirit that PDC has brought to the club and started to get a foothold. Couldn't believe how much pressure we put on them in certain periods, shots coming in, corners beign won, if it wasn't for Schmeichel we could well have gone level.

Didn't actually see Konchesky's challenge on Ferry too well but it looked wild. If reports that it was knee height are true, it could be yet more evidence for PDC to present before the FA to suggest he's being picked on! ;)

Second half we never really got going in the same way. Gabilondo had a tough job since Cibocchi doesn't do that much attacking, and a number of players wasted chances with wild snap shots. Fair play to Leicester, they were quite strong at the back, and we should take heart in that we were able to create the chances we did.

Stand out players for me would be Caddis, McCormack, Cibocchi, and Ritchie. We had a fair bit of joy down the right hand side, despite their left winger easily beating Ritchie and Caddis on pace. Good to see!

Just back, stopped for a TGI Friday's in Coventry. nomnomnom.

The nightmare start happened as Leicester went ahead inside 4 minutes. Poor defending on our left side left them too much space to cross to the far post. The ball was knocked back across and Beckford stabbed home. For the next 10 minutes is looked like we were in for a torrid time, but slowly but surely we got back into the game and fashioned some chances of our own.

Second half Leicester scored again, didn't really see what happened clearly but Beckford scored again. We still did OK after that but to be honest Leicester were never seriously troubled.  We never gave up and worked hard, but Leicester had enough about them to see out the game.

So disappointing but also encouraging from us. Decent day out. Found the traffic after a pain in the arse. That bit of Leicester IS a shithole, then again County Road and Manchester Road ain't much to shout about. Talking of which there were a couple of good sustained "we are Paolo's red and white army" and other Town hits not available in record stores. Good last 10 minutes and we leave with our heads held high.

Stand out players for me were McCormack and Caddis, thought De Vita was reasonable too. Everyone else was fairly steady but didn't hit top gear. Oh actually Gabby was poor.

And Swindon Town mentioned on Casualty as I type.

COYR, lets fuck over Southend next.

Excellent performance for 41 minutes of the first half, I was confident we could turn it around at half time.

The second goal killed us and the heads dropped a little, but the first two changes didn't help either. Gabi and Murray offered very little.

Today was a bloody good day overall.
We more than matched and outplayed a very strong championship team for most of the game. McCormack outshined everyone on the pitch today, nothing is getting past him that is for sure. Risser had another quality performance IMO, he blocked alot of good bals and shots and always seemed to be in the right place when on defending and blocking duties, also laid off some good passes.
Cibo also impressed me today, I do rate him and today confirmed why, very steady defensively and offered some great crosses.
Ritchie, Caddis and Ferry were their normal selves and were superb!
Fans were tremendous today, we, and the players did our team proud! COYR!

I'd say the gap was bigger - we didn't have great service into the box today, particularly from the left. It was only set pieces where we really troubled them. Having Rooney might have made a difference though.

One or two on their forum have suggested they didn't get out of 2nd gear, which personally I think is a load of crap. We put them under a lot of pressure in the first half, and if they could have upped their game then they would have done. Below par? Perhaps. But certainly not in 2nd gear.

Their defenders were better than our strikers. That for me was more or less the difference between the sides. If I was Paolo I think I would have them in for shooting practice tomorrow morning or whenever the next training session. There must have been 4 or 5 attempts on goal in the second half alone (from different players) which were, frankly, embarassing.

Overall though, pretty satisfactory day out. Particularly enjoyed the performances of Caddis and Cibocci (that was a thundering free kick just before half time)

And a very turn out and good support from our lot. Some extremely complimentary comments on this here forum (look away Yeo..)

I watched the game at the Royal Ak in Old Town. Very enjoyable apart from the fucking commentary, whoever it was it was fuckiing shite, if you were listening on the radio you would of thought we never touched the ball.

Ref was piss for key incidents - beckford 'premiership you're having a laff!' Deliberate handball was a yellow and Konchesky tackle was instant red.

Saying that I don't think we would of won even against 9 men as our forwards were off today.

A good day out. A beer in the Counting House which took about 30 minutes to arrive. Then a mate took a trip to Morrisons across the way for a few tins. Fair play to the police around there who took a really light touch. Then to the main event.
Before the game even started there were 2 cunts behind me who fucking moaned abuot Risser and Cibocchi. All through the game they moaned about Risser and Ciboochi. They're probably moaning about them now.
McCormack is pure absolute class. Risser did Ok today. Cibocchi either does thnigs very well or very shit but he's not had a good run and he's new to English football - he's this years JFL.
As someone else said their 2 defenders were better than our 2 attackers.
As I was stood outside the ground a Leicester fan came up and said if we had someone who could finish it would have been a different game and he was right.
Althuogh we lost, we were not disgraced on or off the pitch. Good support and fair play to the Leicester fans, stewards and police who kept in the background.
On the negative side we parked at the Rugby ground and it took us untli 6 to get out of Leicester.

I think this is spot on. Leicester had better quality in the key areas.

If they didn't get out of second gear fair enough. I know we have better quality than we showed today too, particularly in the final third/shooting. So maybe both things were down to how hard each team had to work against the other, making them look worse than they are.

I didn't follow the game yesterday (a bit difficult out at sea) but wasn't too surprised to see we'd lost. The cup run was nice whilst it lasted, but let's face it the league is the biggest priority.

Just watched the highlights and it didn't look like we created much, but from skim reading the thread it seems that we did have quite a lot of the game that didn't get shown. Konchesky's tackle was absolutely horrendous and he should've seen a straight red.

Watched the whole game in the Swiss Chalet. Had a chukkle to the "Your grounds to big for you" chant, and the "We are Paolo's Red and White army" was awesome. Great game, shame about the result. Richie's miss was actually a good block by their defender that's why we got a corner out of it. Why do we take so long to get out of the starting blocks sometimes.
Anyway, a satisfying performance and onwards an upwards. Lets take it out on Southend.

I watched the game thanks to Berniman online on Fox with a fantastic feed quality.

The commentators where the worst I have ever heard, you would have thought Swindon werent even playing and that we had tapped into the LCFC World feed, nothing complimentary to say about Swindon, no idea who they were but one was an ex pro cos he said he didnt like going to the County Ground when he was playing, he also said that when we had 11 shots to their 4...his comment was...well that proves the quality of Leicesters finishing (that was when it was 1-0).

As for the game, I thought the back 4 did well against much better quality players that they normally have to play against, I don't think we missed Flint as such, but him not playing is always a loss to the team, but I feel he probably wouldnt have done any better with either of the goals had he been playing.

Fodders did well and had no chance with either goal.

Nobody let the team down, even Risser, who ran around and made a few good tackles/interceptions, Ferry ran his socks off too.

Both Ritchie and De Vita did quite well, getting a few crosses in, poor miss from Ritchie though near half time but they can easily go either way and it was a pretty good challenge on him to stop the shot. Loved the way he kept taking on Konchesky and beating him.

Connell and Benson didnt have their best games for the Town, lots of running and a few good passes but most of the killer balls in the box werent of a good quality and both looked a bit off the pace.

McCormack was fantastic and easily the MoM for me, great tackling, passing and interceptions, hardly put a foot wrong all game and reminded me of Calderwood.

Devera did ok didnt do much wrong but lacks a bit of pace at the back, Caddis made a few mistakes but was fairly solid and good going forwards, and Cibocchi I though was excellent, solid defensively and much better going forward that he has been, lacks a little pace and fitness but did well, and that free kick was awesome right on half time.

The biggest well done though has to go to the near 4,000 Town fans that travelled up, hardly stopped singing all game right from KO and totally outsing the locals and on TV we could hear you loud and clear, well done to every one of you.

Only the second game I have seen this season (via dodgy internet feed).  McCormack was the best player on the pitch by far, his reading of the game was excellent.  Felt we lacked some creativity up front and bite in midfield but that we pass it around excellently and make good use of space.

Just bloody hope now that we can regain focus for the game at Southend on Tuesday and aren't too knackered.

Really enjoyed the day yesterday and the support was fantastic from our fans yet again...Leicester only decided to sing after their second goal and even then we still outsung them!

As some have said they had that extra bit of quality in key areas, but we didn't disgrace ourselves at all...onwards to the league and hopefully to Wembley...if you'd said competing for the title, 1 game away from wembley and a premier scalp in the fa cup then most would bite their hand off for that...Keep the faith C.O.Y.R!

Great day yesterday. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Result aside, a stirling performance. All were a real credit to the Swindon shirt.

Loved it when Paolo came over at the end. You could see in his expressions the boys had done everything asked of them and he had done

On a bit of a negative...I was in the stand surrounded by decent, proper Swindon fans. Fans old and young all enjoying the game singing and encouraging throughout the whole 90.

There was though, a few rows behind me, the scummiest and most horrible fans I have ever witnessed. I can only describe the Dad or Uncle, in his appearance, as Worzel Gummidge and his 3 cretins that were with him were a disgrace. They were aged probably between 10-14 with the youngest spouting expletives the whole game. When you hear a ten year old screaming "Wanker", "Fucking crap" and "Use you're fucking head"...it's just not on. The older of the three thought he was Billy Big Bollox also spouting crap. All 4 of you were a disgrace, whoever you are.

Those around them were undoubtedly uncomfortable and couldn't move seat as there weren't any to move to.

Sorry but rant over.

There were mongs out in force yesterday.

Some prat had a go at me cos people were telling him to sit down cos they couldn't see. He was so intoxicated he thought I said it.

He then kept telling the Leicester fans they were 'gonna their fucking heads kicked in'.

This was with a little girl of about 6 years old sat in front of him. Lovely fella.

Agree Ralphy. We all know there's those kind of fans at every game but when these so called younger "fans" have adults with them, then surely the adult in this scenario should have at least some sort of an inkling of common decency and tell them to stop the abuse. If you tell them, you would get lamped!

Flint didn't play as he got ko'd in the spot by the way. Giving it the 'don't you know who i am' thing so i was told.

Heard this yesterday too, apparently knocked some guys drink over then refused to apologise...

However I also heard that he's going to West Ham for £750,000 and they didn't want him injured.
I stuck that on twitter and was shot down as apparently JW say's no one has bid for our players..

The wrath of PDC maybe - but can he really blame Flint because someone punched him? really...

Yes they did travel up Fiday. I did wonder when it happened because being out in the week with the game coming up seems stupid.  And to that point PDC may well have thought the same regardless of "fault".

Concussion could see a weeks rest.

The Flint rumour does seem to be like some Poxford spread bollocks, and the same with people saying hes leaving, no club has enough power to stop a player from playing just because hes about to sign for them, not like it matters if he was cup tied or not.

And who is to say he wouldnt get injured in training before he signed for West Ham or Middlesboro.

I will believe it when it is confirmed by the club, on both counts. Until then...next dodgy rumour please.

I enjoyed the game on Saturday. I thought we looked dangerous but without a cutting edge. Mills and St Ledger dealt with everything we through at them sadly. McCormack, Ritchie and Caddis shone for me. I know people thought Risser played ok, but I thought he was shocking, he just seems so slow and lethargic sometimes and I am not convinced about his passing, he had one or two good balls but on the flip side made a couple of shocking passes.

Agreed. Impressed with how competitive we looked overall. Difficult to lay too much criticism on Benson or Connell for the lack of a cutting edge, at the end of the day they are strikers whose ceiling is probably L1/L2, up against two pretty good Championship standard centre halves. Always going to be tough.

Should be plenty of positives to take out of Leicester and every other game we've played against higher league opposition this season. Never seemed out of our depth bar maybe against Southampton.

I'm surprised at the love for Cibbochi - I thought he started poorly, and although he got better for the 15-20 minutes before half time when the whole team dominated overall I wasn't impressed. From what I've seen of Kennedy this year, he has got better and better while Cibbochi has been distinctly average.
And while I can see why Risser is in the team, and the job that he does, our game seems to flow better with J Smith. Yesterday maybe wasn't the time for a free flowing game, but at 2-0 down, I would have gambled a bit and brought Smith on. Nothing to lose then.

Have to mention McCormack though, what a game he had, I thought he was head and shoulders above all other Swindon players. His reading of the game was just sensational and a couple of great last ditch tackles too.

THe Leicester centre backs were just too strong for our forwards, and I think we realised this, hence the number of long range shots. On another day, we would have tested the keeper more and maybe got one back, but despite the stats suggesting otherwise, cant really complain about the result.

I understand all off that, and totally agree but what annoyed me on Saturday was the people behind constantly telling us to sit down, despite the fact that if we sat down, we wouldn't see a thing as about 5 rows of people in front of us were all stood up.

the fans wouldnt have created hardly any atmosphere at all if we had all been sat down.

I think the sitters will eventually lose the sit down/stand up argument. Virtually no away fans sit down in the Premier League/Championship anymore, and thats where we are going!

I see both points of view.

My personal choice would be stand at away games, usually why I try and head for the back. Which is usually feasible most of the time, probably wasnt at Leicester due to the amount of fans.

I remember a few years back being about 2/3/4 rows from the back at Bournemouth and an old couple in the back row asking us to sit down - bit of a stupid place to sit really isnt it?

Most of the time we have enough room in the away ends for the standers to stand and the sitters to sit, bit of common sense.

At Crewe once there were abotu 200 of us, and loads of seats. We were in the back row, and stood up. Then a bunch of old folks sat next to us and complained to a steward that they couldn't see because of us. Thankfully he took our side!

I stood up in the back row at Scunny a few seasons ago. The stewards were desperate for me and a few others to sit down despite us causing no obstructions or any hint of a safety problem. They totally ignored the Scunny fans standing in the adjacent seating area. Unsurprisingly it contributed to an increasingly negative atmosphere (also partly due to the Scunny 'keeper) and eventually a bit of fisticuffs with some Town lads behind the goal.

Simple answer is to bring back terracing (introduce safe standing) and give the choice back to the fans.

Dunno where you get that from - behind the goal, everyone was sitting down and making plenty of noise. The people who were standing down the side weren't any louder than anyone else, in fact the ones in front of me were a pretty quiet middle-aged bunch as far as I could tell.

Standing behind the goal, and at the back, is brilliant. Yay to terraces and all that, and as you say, you get it everywhere - but what pissed most people off around us was that the sightlines were so bad they couldn't see anything whether they were standing or not.

Well I'm a 'boring cunt' because if I've got a seat I want to sit in it (If I'm on a terrace I'm happy to stand.) I don't know where you get "people who stand make a concious effort to stay out of the way" from...in my experience the attitude of most people who stand is, "I'm going to stand up, fuck everyone else". How is standing up right in front of someone making an effort to stay out of the way? You say the sitters are 'boring cunts' but I would say that the standers are 'selfish cunts'. Two ways of looking at the same thing.

And you're talking bollocks Spencer because as ReadingRed said, plenty of people were actually sat down and the atmosphere was brilliant.

What I don't get is, this is never an issue at home games  :hmmm:

The answer is of course, as has been said, to have separate sitting and standing areas. Rock science it is not.

The reason it dosnt happen at home games is obvious,if i want to sit the whole match without someone stood up in front of me i would sit in the Arkells,i have a choice, you have no choice in the Townend.....and you have no choice at away matches because everyone is sat together rather than in the areas they would prefer ala home matches :sherlock:

What the fuck has geology got to do with anything ?

I see both points of view.

My personal choice would be stand at away games, usually why I try and head for the back. Which is usually feasible most of the time, probably wasnt at Leicester due to the amount of fans.

I remember a few years back being about 2/3/4 rows from the back at Bournemouth and an old couple in the back row asking us to sit down - bit of a stupid place to sit really isnt it?

Most of the time we have enough room in the away ends for the standers to stand and the sitters to sit, bit of common sense.

I also see both points of view and conclude that the sitter downers are cunts!

Geometry would be more appropriate.
Standing behind the goals, the pitch in front of you = Great.
Standing at the sides, having to crane your neck around the bloke in front to see the near touchline = Annoying.

Its the standing fans that get the chants going 90% of the time. Sitting fans dont start songs. If no one starts chants then you get no atmosphere. Just the other week at Northampton, the fans pretty much all sat down and the atmosphere was abysmal.

I hate sitting at football.

But the Sarfer bloke said it was rock science ?

If you want to sit at an away game, get there early. Otherwise fuck off.

Yes, and then prepare for pissed up twats to arrive two minutes before kick off and stand in front of you.

The point was if you want to sit down, sit somewhere where no one can stand in front of you. IE, The fucking front you boring old cunt.

You do realise that tickets have numbers and letters, denoting a specific place to sit don't you ? or does that only apply to 'anyone else but me' ?

unless its a sell out then the letters and numbers have no significants do they?

The simple equation I use is to look at what everyone else is doing:

Row Behind Sat Down + Row in Front Sat Down = Sit Down
Row Behind Sat Down + Row in Front Stood Up = Stand Up
Row Behind Stood Up + Row in Front Stood Up = Stand Up
Row Behind Stood Up + Row in Front Sat Down = Whatever you fancy

What was more annoying for me on Saturday was some drunken old boys who were in our seats when we arrived. We pointed them out, and the just shuffled up a little bit - and it ended up with them stood pretty much in front of us, even though they didnt have a seat. Looking down the the row, there were a bunch of wankers doing the same thing (presumably because the atmopshere was better where we were than their own seats).
We got them to move eventually (after about 15 mins of the match) but people like that are pure selfish twats

Brilliant.

It's not hard you can tell by just looking at someone if they're going to be a 'boring old cunt' or a 'pissed up twat'...we don't like you and you don't like us, that's why at home the 'boring old cunts' are in the arkells stand, sat on their hands with a blanket and a not uttering a word to anyone, while the 'pissed up twats' are in the Town End standing in seating areas.

At away games, we're stuck with each other and from my perspective us 'pissed up twats' do our best to stay out of the way of the 'boring old cunts' it's not always that easy when we take a big following. I like how some have said that their experience of standers is that they have a 'fuck everyone else' mentality...because that's exactly how I see sitters.

God bless the 'pissed up twats' because if it wasn't for them singing/chanting at football and generally any atmosphere whatsoever would be dead.

It makes me wonder if many of these cunts that do nothing but moan (even when fans aren't blocking their view and it doesn't effect them in anyway, which I have seen happy many many times) were actually about watching football through the 70s and 80s, because it beggars belief that some of them would have been the way they act.

If you're dealing in those stereotypes you must have been a bit confused on Saturday!
The people standing at the sides seemd to fit all of your Arkells stereotypes. Not pissed up, not lairy, not even very noisy, just annoying middle aged people like you and me.

Yea, well I was there in the 60s man...the terraces... scarves round our wrists... bovver boots piled up outside the Town End... I was there man! It was hell! You wouldn't understand!

I don't think I've ever sat in "my seat" either home or away. Grow up, it's not the fucking theatre.

Thats all well and good when its Southend away on a Tuesday night. But when its a sell out in a limited area, with hardly anywhere else to stand, i'll come and stand right in front of you, inbetween two rows of seats, and see how you like a 6' 5 bloke obscuring your view and nearly elbowing your face when clapping. And ill turn around and say "grow up mate, its not the fucking theatre" as you eloquently put it.

A model which I usually follow, however, you've missed the scenario that we had on Saturday, i.e

Rows in front stood up, row behind containing several (small) youngsters.

I don't get why people want to stand up at grounds like leicester's? When my boy was small i often had to pick him up at games so he could see. Didn't bother me to much at the time to be honest. Should be no need for it in modern stadia though

I'm sure that a few days ago, all these people were waxing lyrical over youtube videos of crowd scenes in Europe.

You know, jumping up and down together, chucking smoke bombs, singing, clapping etc.

Lots of quotes along the lines of "you get a much better atmosphere abroad"

Well, maybe they don't have boring bastards sat in the middle of them, complaining to stewards about the noise

At which point did I say I wasn't singing or clapping? I was stood up the whole match (and pleased to be), singing and getting involved the whole match.

Complaining about the noise? Thats a new one in this discussion!

The fact is, I like to be part of the atmosphere, watch the match and enjoy the experience - and I have a few pints to enhance that.
But if idiots like you class a "boring bastard" as someone who doesn't enjoy having a jostle for their space that they have paid for in the stand because smashed up "fans" want to cram themselves in together and have no respect for the others (even those who UNLIKE me don't like to sing and just go to watch the match), then fair enough, I'm a boring bastard.

FWIW, I completely agree with you, I just hate people who fucking moan about this shit on the internet. They want an atmosphere but they don't want it right by them. Fucking go in VIP or something.

PS, If you're a town end boy, I'm T2, M60 (ish)
