Actually, I'll rephrase my comment:

Just about anything else out there>AVG

Can anyone suggest a decent free anti virus for Macs?

Currently using "Sophos" and get the feeling it's not doing very much...

Have you got a virus on your Mac then? I bought one and used it (Virus Barrier X6), but it found nothing and I hated it. I then decided it was a resource hog and haven't bothered since - you can have that if I can find the serial.

You could also try Clam.

Sophos is one of the best AVs on the market.

Don't think i've got a virus, just nice to know i've got protection..

If Sophos is decent i'll stick with it..

Cheers.

Same. Did plan on grabbing Avast/AVG but MSE seems to be doing the job just fine.

I wouldn't even worry about an AV. There's not any known viruses for OSX and only a few bits of spyware and malware, all of which are near impossible to find let alone get infected by. Just get a firewall, I recommend Little Snitch, and then if you do somehow get something that doesn't really exist you'll know about it before it can become a problem. :)
