washbag, did you do our stats for the new game?

Hopefully we don't have Bristol City and Reading as 'Fierce Rivals' on this one.

Disappointed with it really, not many changes, a bit different GUI on it, better game graphics, better team talks, but the tactics side of it and prettymuch everything else is no different.

A few little tweaks like telling you when a player needs substituting is good but I am left a bit "meh" by it so far, mind you I am only about 5 friendlies in so far.

As the Swindon Town researcher for Sports Interactive I'll keep this reply updated with known issues which will be corrected in future patches...

Known Data Issues / Changes for the future:

 - Ahmed Abdulla is not a striker, should be a MC/AMC (this was down to the WHU researcher)
 - Lander Gabilondo should be left footed and a left winger
 - Matt Ritchie right wing position needs reviewing
 - Medhi Kerrouche has a excellent left foot and left wing position needs adding
 - Raffaelle De Vita is competent on the left wing
 - Current abilities / reputations for Aden Flint and Jonathan Smith should be a tad higher

washbag, did you do our stats for the new game?

Hopefully we don't have Bristol City and Reading as 'Fierce Rivals' on this one.

As for the rivals one...

Both are unchanged as far as I can recall.

The issue here is how SI describe a rivalry of 15/20 or above in game. Reading are rated highly as our historical rivals and City are similarly rated.

Playing along on the demo, not bought FM since 2008 but thought I'd give it a go.

Misun has just broken Kennedy's cheekbone in training. This amused me somewhat.

Post by: matt_jada on Friday, October 7, 2011, 10:18:03
I like the new layout, not much has changed but i wasnt expecting much tbh.

Ive just brought in Greg Cunningham on a season long loan from Man City, much better than Cibbochi @ LB.

I might just bring a couple of loan additions to my current squad and send a few out on loan, The squad seems more or less ready.

A few weaknesses in defence perhaps

There is a graphical issue behind the goal on the left at the County Ground that the seats randomly cover the exits and aisles, which looks very odd indeed.

Title: Re: FM 2012

If you play the demo, can you carry on the game when you buy it fully?

Yeah, I have Cunningham as well, that Feeder Link with Man City is bloody brilliantly. Cheeky loan bid for Tevez didn't go so well though...

Also got Shwan Jalal in from Bournemouth because none of our keepers are very good.

Lee Molyneaux on a free at LB is awesome got Sam Johnstone on loan from Man Ure for no wages and he is an excellent keeper, much better than any other keepers we have, signed Etuhu on a free as well and Jake Jervis on loan from Brum! hes not bad on there at all.

Trying to sell Lanzano, Amankwaah, Evans, Cibocchi, Atiku, Smith, Connell, Timlin, Bodin and Benyon as they are all pants, but the only offers that have come in are for Evans.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: matt_jada on Friday, October 7, 2011, 11:23:57
Lee Molyneaux on a free at LB is awesome
signed Etuhu on a free as well

I agree LM is a good LB however Greg Cunningham is better plus he's completely free and paid for all season.
Im currently scouting Etuhu, because he was recomended in the england trials thingy.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, October 7, 2011, 11:24:57
Got offered Super Sam Parkin by St Johnstone for £30k, so I bit the bullet and signed him, played him as a lone striker, scored 2 in the first game and set up a goal for Ritchie and then in the same game gets injured and is out for 2 months!

Title: Re: FM 2012

Matt Ritchie is underated and Ettiene is overated

Think i might swoop for Etuhu

Gregg Cunningham (season loan)
Suso (season loan)
A Wildig (season loan)

trying to secure P Pogba (season loan)  ;D

And still hoping on buying K Etuhu (free)

Just recieved £110,000 for Henshall (20%) 2/08

Looking good  8)

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, October 7, 2011, 13:30:36
I got £80k from Henshalls move to Blackpoo, Burnley offered me £475k for Caddis which I bit their hand off, Ritchie asked for a transfer and I raised £175k from his sale. The minus point is that no one of note wants to sign for me on a transfer, just loans.

I am also pretty shit, sitting in 16th place after 5 games, can't find a tactic that brings me results, 1 win so far.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: matt_jada on Friday, October 7, 2011, 13:35:04
hmm  ??? weird about Henshall.

Ive just turned down £240K for Ritchie, with a counter offer of £400k plus but was turned down - will be tempted with any offer over £300k tbh.

I will sell Caddis for that definitely  :)

I seem to be doing well so far, but not started the league yet.

Title: Re: FM 2012

finished my first game of the season winning 5-2 agaist Wimbledon. Kept pretty much the same team apart from a couple of loans (also kicked out clarke, tosser) Its all about short passing and flair at home and a direct game away. However both keepers are pants

I cant get a formation that gives me any consitancy at all, I have tried them all, 433, 442, 424, 541 with little luck at all, I have played around 50 games now and probably wont less than 50% in total.

Getting a bit pissed off with it TBH, and fuck loads of injuries.

Not just that but I cant get rid of any of the crap players without releasing them and that costs a fortune!

Title: Re: FM 2012

I think there is a massive amount of randomness in the game as not one of your signings want to sign for me, Cunnigham, James, Sanogo, Suso and Wildig and Woods all have no intention of signing for Swindon or wont even enter neagotiations.....wierd.

Really enjoying the new game, time consuming if you wanna do it properly though. Signed Cunningham on loan from Man City, as well as Darel Russell and Chris Cleaver who are both decent in centre mid. Pivkovski, 17 year old winger from Blackburn is pretty class. Signed Ben Williams in nets too. Connell and Ritchie are absolute beasts. Connell's got 15 in 16! Currently 14 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat. 12 points clear..though I might have to stop before it takes over my life for another year..

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 17:56:04
I started again to see how I would do and started using a 442 with AM wingers and playing a passing game and its working wonders, 1 defeat and 1 draw with 12 wins including a 9-0 against Chippenham, a 4-1 away win at Cardiff in the LC and a 2-0 away win at Swansea in the LC, flying high in 1st place now after 8 league games.

Bought Stuart Nelson for £100k in goal and loaned Jamal Blackman from Chelski as backup keeper, both are excellent.

Pablo Counago is not bad for a freebie up front and has scored 3 in 2 games, Jason Marr a defender on a free aint bad either. Craig Curran is a good winger/ST and loaned in Harry Kane, Dean Parrett, Shane Duffy, Matt Fry and Carl Jenkinson mostly as backups.

Feeling more confident about it though, still cant loan in Cunningham, James or Sanogo though no matter what level I start as a manager at.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: matt_jada on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 18:25:06
Sanoga turned me down to start with, wasnt interested whatsoever then he went on loan to Ipswich.

Ipswich didnt want to renew so i thought id try again and he accepted. only 3 months tho.

As for the experience thingy, i picked sunday league footballer  :) so i don't think it makes much difference.

I got offerered M Woods so that might be the reason he accepted.

As the Swindon Town researcher for Sports Interactive I'll keep this reply updated with known issues which will be corrected in future patches...

Known Data Issues / Changes for the future:

- Leon Clarke should be set on loan at Chesterfield
- Kevin Amankwaah is no longer with the club and should be at Burton (this was post data lock)
 - Bolton and Man City affiliates need removing
 - Poole Town affiliate needs removing
 - Andrew Fitton needs to be removed as a Director

Things like PDC playing De Vita on the left wing would not have been picked up since I sent the files back in early August.

What about Misun?!

Tricky one that...

He's not a free agent...

He's not registered with another club...

STFC still hold the right to his registration although he's not signed a contract...

so... the best thing I could do for FM was to put him in the Swindon squad.

He should be non contract and I'll get that changed.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: the washbag on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, 10:00:45
Oi, Washbag, why the fuck is Gabilondo on £3.7k per week?!

That was inputted by the Spanish researcher (after I sent my files back) and probably based on what they estimated he was on at his previous club.

He's probably be on no more than £1,000 per week and that'll be changed.

Title: Re: FM 2012
Post by: the washbag on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, 10:02:37
Gabilondo couldn't be more right footed if he tried :)

Again... Gabilondo was created by the Spanish researchers and this gives me something else to fix.

All being well I'll try to issue a Swindon Patch around release to fix just STFC issues so things such as this and others are sorted for when you start your games.

Having some problems with FM12: Bought it on the day of release and Town are flying, 10 points clear at the turn of the year with Marlon Harewood smashing the league to bits. However as of last Friday i haven't been able to load the game at all, i've spent a fair bit of time trying to get it going with no success and have got very frustrated to the point that i might just trade it in!!
I've had fm/champ man every year for more than i can remember, plus i have run the game through steam since about 09/10, so i'm pretty pissed off with this so far.
The problem i have is loading the game up, it gets to the red loading screen and then freezes every time. I have scanned a few forums for the answer and have so far tried, verifying game cache, defragging it, multiple uninstalls/re-installs of both the the game and steam, changing the name of the registry, but the problem still remains.

Anyone have any ideas (simplified would be good :-))??

As the problem has been going for a few days, yes
Good effort on the championship though, very different to how mine was shaping up, creepy Crawley were second bottom and had sacked the trannie, yet Accrington were right up my jacksy!

Playing as Plymouth, won League Two first season, 8th in League One Season Two and just starting off on Season Three.

In the mean time, Swindon have contrived to just about avoid relegation in League Two. Admittedly I didn't help by buying Ritchie.

It's also really fun talking negatively to the press about Steve Evans all the time :D

The same issue as in it wouldn't even load? Everything still appears to be there, although i'll happily lose the saved game and start a fresh if i can get it going. But it won't even let me get far enough to do that  :crash:

Steam Name :  Boboski1978

Kerrouche is absolutely flying for me, top scorer in League 2 and now doing the same in League 1.  Tend to set him as the Advanced Forward, with Magera as the Target Man.

Best player I have managed to sign is Petrucci on loan as an AMC.  Quality, and only 19 so hopefully can persuade Man City (think thats his parent club) to let him go soon :)

Just Sold Magera for £2million and rejected a £1 million pound bid for Caddis. Ritchie got player of the year in league two with 10 goals and 22 assists, won the league with over 100 points and was manager of the year. League two was very easy.

Probably down to our amazing fans I would imagine. You've just not had the chance to prove that you can average over 5,500 in the Conference.

Alright fuckface, you don't have to provide a come-back to self-depricating humour you know.

But since you mention it, you're in Div 3 along with the rest of us, so don't get too cocky. All it would take is an imbecile manager and a load of dodgy signings.

Started the season really well, scoring in 18 consecutive games... now i miss roughly 7 or 8 one-on-ones every game and have plummetted to 10th. Also got knocked out of the FA Cup by Stockport (16th in Conference) at home. Remembered why I hate this game most of the time!

Alright twatslop, it was also a tongue in cheek remark as we all know how easy it is to drop out of the league with one bad season.

Oh and sorry for not realising straight away that you were being self depricating as your post seemed actually arrogant rather than humerous.

On another site which I help out on we've created an expansion to the English leagues to allow you to start your game in the Southern, Isthmian or Northern Premier leagues.

http://fmupdates.com/fluxbb/viewtopic.php?id=54

So you can start with Supermarine, Hungerford, Cirencester, Chippenham and other local clubs if you fancy a bit more of a long term challenge in the lower leagues :)

I've played the game pretty much non stop since it came out. Venturing back to the real world was a struggle...I'm in the Prem..3 promotions in 4 seasons. Signed Hugo Bargas who was Championship player of the year ...haha! He did come after all! Only current survivor is Ritchie who is a squad player. Got Defoe up top and he scored on his debut. Guidetti on loan was an absolute machine from Man City..scored 49 goals in League One..best ever record in all the years I've played it.

Also re-signed Henshall on a free and he's quality..he's leading star champ atm. I have to stop playing it for a bit cos I'm totally hooked, I just fucked up my wage bill in Prem as well...40k a week over!

Download the link, then Zip the file using Winzip into the Editor Data file in the Football manager 2012 Document, if you don't have one you can just make one. Then just start a new game and then you edit when the little box pops up.

If you read the link, it also gives more detailed instructions.

Fucking boo.

had a great 1st season, stormed the league with 108 points, 2nd season though with some new signings I am struggling. Sat in 9th place after 11 games 5 wins 4 draws and 2 defeats scored 24 conceded 13.

I am struggling against teams I should be beating, especially at home.

I've been using a 442 formation, with control and shorter passing, expressive, pressing, zonal marking, drill crosses and no roaming.

I just cant make it work consistantly, I have tried tinkering a little with longer passing, less expressive etc but nowt seems to work very well.

What formations seem to work for you all? and do you alternate home and away with formations or stick to one?

I've found that my team is the same, pretty much walked League 2 (http://i.imgur.com/XJE6T.jpg) but after strengthening the team I'm struggling already in League 1.

My thoughts on FM12 are that tactics aren't as improtant - match preparation, tactic familiarity and morale/personality traits are more important than previous games

Yeah I was thinking similar mate, if you are on a good run then the run will carry on, I had a poor pre season and won half and lost half the games so the form wasnt in place before the season started. The does seem to be a momentum thing with performances, if you dont bounce back with a win after a loss then its harder and harder to get that vital win.

I also find that the players themselves are a lot more stroppy than ever before making confidence lower overall.

I have got Piscu (£400k) and Jason Shackell (£200k) at CB (both excellent players) and loaned in Yaya Sanogo up front and signed Jason Roberts (free) (good but injury prone) and pinched Wilfred Zaha (£500k awesome player) all 3 are very quick, so fingers crossed!

Also loaned in Sam Ricketts from Bolton for a season, very versatile and no wages...sweet!

Managed to sell every player for good money in the end apart from Magera who I still have in the squad.

Title: Re: FM 2012

You should do alright then I reckon.

I've not played with Swindon yet, but buying players to suit this formation won me 3 straight titles into the Premier League on FM11. The match engine hasn't changed in FM12 so it should still be effective.

I'd suggest doing defensive positioning for away games, attacking for home. If you wanted to really play properly, have a look at who you are playing next. If they concede alot from corners, do match preparation for attacking set-plays.

Tried the new tactic......well what can i say?

Same team as I have been playing......and won 8-0 away at Histon in the FA Cup!

Zaha scored 5 and Piscu (CB) scored 2.

Very impressive stats of 23 shots to 2 for them, 3 hits of the woodwork, with 60%-40% possession.

Well that tactic does surely work!

Since I changed to it I have won 20 games and lost 2, one of those in the FA Cup away at Brighton.

Won promotion on the 23rd March after just 38 games scored 102 and let in just 29, score 8 against Histon away, 5 against Notts County, Dag & Red away, Boremuff and MK Dongs, 6 away at Uddersfield and 7 away at Wycombe.

Since I started using the tactic I have only let in 14 goals and score 85!

I dont have any major scorers though with Wilf Zaha on 17, Jason Roberts on 13 and centre back Piscu on 13, Magera has got 8 goals and 2 assists in 12 games! hes been injured a lot but is brilliant and well worth keeping.

I prefer making my own tactics and tinkering, but this was a good tactic from the off, I have modified it a little now to a 4-2-4/4-4-2 with 2 attcking wingers and its been fantastic, getting 6 and 7 goal wins in the Championship but it is still based on this tactic.

Currently top in the Championship after 11 games with 10 wins and a draw, scoring 44 and conceding 12.

Cox has got 22 of those goals and is on fire as part of a duo up front with him playing as an Advanced Forward.

Wickham is a really stroppy fuck and because I dropped him for one game to rest him wanted a private chat with me concerning that he isnt good enough, I told him that he was my first choice and that shut him up till the next time.

Picked up Lorenzo Crisetig on a free a DMC ex of Inter, well worth getting if hes given a free in your game at the end of the 2nd season.

Also Andy Sheil an U17 striker from West Ham is a fantastic signing on loan hes got 6 goals in 7 games, 4 of those as a sub much much better than Yaya Sanogo.

I only use text commentary. Tried watching games but a) I get impatient and b) my laptop kept overheating and switching off.

I watch highlights at just a bit faster than normal speed and I recon it takes about 12 hours a season give or take.

In 11 I watch it in "TV Mode" and the quickest speed possible with no replays.

Each game takes about 5 mins I would say..

Just won the Championship of the Chamionship!

3 championships in 3 seasons, 40 wins 3 draw 3 losses, won the FA cup, scored 145 league goals with 40 against.

Matt Mills at CB scored 23 goals
Raheem Sterling on loan from Liverpool scored 13 as a winger with 48 assists! ave rating 8.23
Conor Wickham on loan from Sunderland scored 25 and 20 assists.
Simon Cox 44 goals and 14 assists.
Joe Lewis had 23 clean sheets.

Looking forward to the Premiership and getting the same players in on loan again, still only have £20mill budget though which isnt enough to get them on permanants.

You'll find it difficult to get players in on Loan in the prem, from other prem sides.

I actually managed to sign Raheem Sterling from Liverpool for £5mill and Sunderland got relegated so offloaded Conor Wickham to me for £6mill, the only premier loan signing I have managed to get though is Federico Macheda from Man Ure.

Signed Carlos Vela from Arsenal for £2.5mill just need to strengthen my defence now even though I havent conceded a goal in 7 pre season friendlies.

Just starting this now. Started as Swindon, breezed pre-season and am about to start competetive matches.

Playing with a lone striker with advanced wingers. have bought a young defender on a free, and have a defensive midfielder on loan from Sampdoria.

I know its only a game and all, but can that really be enjoyable being so ridiculously dominant? Part of the fun of these back in the day when I played was tearing out your hair at going on bad runs etc. Maybe I am a masochist!

i agree, losing is very important and winning 9-0 in the cup would soon get me bored. I like thinking shit better change my tatics or need a new player in the DM role

Had my fair share of shit games on Fm, not on FM2012 though as yet but I enjoy winning games, as I do enjoy a challenge too, but its one of the first times I have been able to be so dominant so I am relishing it at the moment :)

Only started playing this a week or so ago, and after a half dozen games getting used to it that tactic bigbobjoylove posted is working wonders. Unbeaten and about 8 points clear in the middle of November.

Bizarrely seem to have some kind of glitch where Risser is unstoppable heading the ball in from the near post at corners. He is currently my top scorer with 15 goals in 13 starts at CB!

think of it as a money saving investment. The £17 you will spend should last for hours and hours. Otherwise you will only blow it on the lash this weekend anyway. Or as were paying for your education pull your finger out and do some fucking work :D

I rarely find that one tactic will continue to work season after season.

I find the best strategy is start the season with a very basic tactic, only very basic advanced instructions. Then when team confidence is high and the familiarity is above 90% you can start tinkering and add things like individual instructions.

Pro-tip: Set individual instructions for Matt Ritchie to rarely shoot from distance. He'll shoot from anywhere and they don't often go in.

I finally managed to sort my issues with FM, it was a Steam related cache problem. I had to start again and have just finished mt first season, Town promoted as champions with 109 points and Marlon Harewood scoring 37 in the process. Signing of the season however was Curtis Nelson from Plymuff, 300k for a young and unproven cb was a gamble, but he was however immense!! Not looking to change much for lg 1, but am on the look out for a new right winger, any suggestions?

Started a game with Supermarine (with the lower league patch levels 7&8 )

Got marine promoted first season and got to the 4th round of the FA Cup and lost to Fulham, lost in the FA trophy final to Gateshead and won the championship, won my first 17 games in the 2nd season (Conference South) but nobody with any talent wants to sign for me and I am still getting crowds of under 300!

Ah fair enough, prefered playing him on the right, Got player of the year in League 2, Then League 1 player of the year. Still got him in my Premier League team he's not first team anymore but still a very nice squad player.

This game does make me laugh, In the year 2019 right now and Stoke City are bottom of League two and have a 10 point deduction, be crazy if they go out of the football league.

2019!? That must have taken some serious playing hours mate, good effort. My only signing of the summer so far is Pogba on a season long loan from utd, but i do need to sort out the right mid position as Gabby is very average. Aiming for the play offs, but a lot of that will be reliant on Harewood. On a different note, Magera's only managed 10 games for me so far, due to two bad injuries, what is his best position target man or att mid, as i've played him in both and haven't really made my mind up?

Was thinking of playing him behind the front two, very attacking and i'll probably get dicked away from home. I might play about with it in pre season and try him as a target man a bit more.

Finally moved onto actually playing as Swindon.

Won League Two with minimal additions, just loanees- Cunningham as mentioned elsewhere in this thread is very good, as was Shane Duffy from Everton. Easy peasy.

Season Two now and we're off to a reasonable start (5th) in League One, but I'm gunning for back to back promotions so I've just stretched the wage budget to get probably the best strike partnership in the division of David McGoldrick and Ched Evans, as Magera did his cruciates and is out for ten months. Also had a 5* youth prospect striker come through, so very happy indeed with that.

How far have people got now?

I lost Magera, and Ritchie, in my third season before I was promoted to the championship. I lost them because the board were not willing to meet their wage demands for new contracts.

I was then chastised by the board for letting them go as being 'poor business'.

It's the little things like that which piss me off! I apply for a thousand jobs in one week and the board are fine with it, yet I lose 3-0 away at Chelsea in the cup and my position becomes 'precarious'. Hoping that next years FM picks up a little bit, probably wasnt even worth buying FM12 - it barely changed from FM 11 - just a few little tweaks that werent worth the extra 28 squids..

Just downloaded premiership logos to put into my game, anybody have an idea how to do it? Stuck them into a 'graphics' folder as instructed but no joy...

where did you put the graphics folder?

Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2012 > Graphics

Is there something I need to change in the settings to get them to show up?

C:\Users\Veejay\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2012\graphics---obviously your user wont be called veejay

then create a folder named "logos" inside the graphics folder make sure you have the game running aswell as it easier to check after.

once that is donego into the game click preferences the display and sound and untick use skin cache and tick always reload skin on confirm. this should load new logo

heres a good site for player faces kits and more logos ----http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/forum.php

just create a folder name "kits" in the graphics

Score more than the opposition.  (Comments from the supercoach, there).

So that's where we went wrong at WorldNet!

I've had a proper crack at a decent pre-season, started the game in June (start of season in Germany)  to give myself a bit more time to sort my backroom staff out. Got rid of the 'Keeper coach and brought in Antti Niemi as a replacement, can't afford to get rid of Piccaretta so I've brought in Andrew Cole, Wayne Allison (had to be done, the Chief back at the County Ground!) Steve Sedgley and John Murtough as coaches. Will ditch Piccaretta next off-season when he's cheaper.

Can't ship anyone out, although a bunch of clubs are keen on Caddis, don't really want to part with him but anything over £500k and I'll consider it, will add a hefty sell on percentage too. Nobody wants Esijas or Kerouche, which sucks. Both are poo and I want rid.

Signed Dalla Valle from Fulham and Ryan Dickson from Southampton on loan, signed Samba Kanoute and Yann Nsaku as promising youngsters, bought Timo Kern for £80k from Karlsruhe (my manager is half German) and have got Chris Birchall coming in too, both will give me some options and competition across the midfield!

Do you play with a large database? if so try these youngsters out.

Charlie Telfer(MC,ML,AM(LC) - Usually released on my game by rangers is 16 and is very promising youngster i will be using him in my next season.

Massimiliano Lombardi(ML-AML) - Released by Crotone in italy only found bacause of the italian connections in the team.

Francesco Reda(ST) - Released by Crotone scored 31 goals in youth in 28 games i sold him to blackburn for 250,000 and 40% sell on clause

I played Ritchie as AMR but his role was inside forward(support) first season 14 apps 9goals 8 assists then got injured for 6months, second season so far in league 1 21 apps 5 goals 4 assists.

I also Signed this player Baldur Sigurdsson(DM) on a free from KR in iceland when his contract was about to expire.

Try Leon Panikvar (LB-LWB) is good for league 2

Im having pretty good fortune with Miles Storey aswell his first season(league 1) 17apps 7goals 8 assists. Anyone else ever have any luck with him?

Just have not been able to get into it this year! Usually I'm addicted to FM games but after half a season maybe a tad more, I can never be bothered to continue. Magera is an absolute boss though!!
Hopefully FM13 will be more addictive for me!

I've started another game, just to try and get to grips with the game a little bit more. Started unemployed, applied for a few Blue Square Premier teams, a couple of lower league foreign teams too. Finally got offered the FC Emmen job, in the Jupiler League in Holland. Not much money, £16k wages per week (already over by £2k when I joined) an alright team in a bit of a slump.

Gave the dugout.net a ruddy good reading through and have set my team up as a possession team. So far so good, first couple of games I wasn't using the new system and had a win, 2 losses and 2 draws. Since I've created this new tactic I've got 5 wins, 1 draw, 12 goals for, 1 goal against, against a spread of teams (including Willem II, who are first, and were 7 points clear of second at the time)

Dragged Emmen up to 5th place, the league is so tight, with 23 games gone (of a 36 game season) 3rd place to 14th was covered by 6 points. Only 18 teams in the league!

Really don't understand the playoff system that the Jupiler league runs though... the 1st and 2nd placed teams already qualified for the playoffs, likewise the 6th placed team.

The Leagues in Holland have a Playoff between the teams thats are in relegation in the league above you and the ones that want to be promoted from the league below.

I know that much, the top team go up automatically, the rules section in the game say "Teams placed 2nd-9th may qualify for Playoff depending on winners of the four periods", there's no further explanation. hence my confusion of the 6th place team gaining a playoff place already, when I'm 5th and I'm not guaranteed a playoff place yet. from the rules tab you can select one of four periods, only the second has dates attached to it and they run the length of the season.

Can you be under 21 managers? How do you do that?

I started a game as swindon the other day. Nearing the end of jan, currently top by 13 points. Just beat crawley 5-0 away. Lovely stuff.

Signed Ahmed Soukhouna, who is an absolute monster of a striker.

Yeah when you start the game you can be any level of international manager by going to the country and picking the level.

It gets a few seasons out of the way quickly if you want to rush through a season to see how the leagues progress as you can go on holiday until squad selection day without it affecting your standing with the nation.

I get through an average season of 6 games in about 2 hours doing this, started it yesterday and am now in the 4th season with my eyes on the England managers job, makes a change from club football.

pre-season with Emmen is over, only 3 teams would accept friendly proposals. no fucker would sign for me, my best striker fucked off on a freebie as he wouldnt discuss a new contract, which the board say was disappointing. my parent club want to charge me full whack for loans, but that doesnt matter as no one wants to join. given sod all budget, £18k wages and told to make the playoffs. grrrrr.

oh, and 5 first teamers all got injured in training within 3 days of each other, all for 4-6 weeks. then, #1 striker gets injured in 2nd league game, out for 2 months. #2 striker gets injured following game, then his replacement gets injured in the same game. this game is a cunt.

I went on holiday in the first season to see how things would go on there own and see what decent jobs become available in the second year.

Paolo fucked off to Boro (who got relegated to L1) after he won the league with Swindon which led to me taking that job. Couldnt believe it when i got given a playing budget of 7.8million to achieve a mid-table finish! Still had Magera, Ritchie, Caddis, Ferry so no idea where that money has come from but ah well! Signed Matty Fryatt, Jack Butland and Robbie Brady so far

Just lost my home game to Oxford 2-1, Devera conceded a penalty, Flint scored an own goal (cracking goal though, perfectly placed header with no oxford player near him) and I had a perfectly legal goal ruled out for offside, ranted about it in the post-match and the FA haven't disciplined me for it. The game doesn't want you to win certain games!

I've just been promoted to the Premiership in the 14/15 season, very happy with that, losing money hand over fist with a tiny squad which made it very difficult indeed! I've had Benik Afobe on a season long loan each of the last 3 seasons, 82 goals in 111 games, the first in L1, the last two in the Championship. Not too shabby!

Just been offered the Arsenal job... *gulp*
