Now that is impressively prompt.

2-1 win I think. Optimistic to the last. Revell scores for them though, that's as nailed on as it comes...think I'll put money on him to score first.

3-1 win.

I don't buy into the supersticious bollocks. Revell is a cunt and wont score.

A bit of a PDC / home crowd post-match love-in is on the cards later today, I think:-)

 Think we'll lose 0-2

Depending on the circumstance if your prediction is correct that'll be curtains for di Canio.....the last time we played Rotherham at the CG was quite a significant game....Iffy's 3/4 season, we'd got up to 16th, had Rotherham, who were also struggling, but had got a few players by dubious means, go in 2-1 up at half time...and implode and lose 2-3, the shock of which precipitates relegation for us and keeps them up.

Nevertheless their dodgy signings catch up, when they' re forced to leave Millmoor...so on balance think we got the best of it.

Scott can only dream about the resources lavished on di Canio....he needs at least a draw.

I remember us beating Rotherham back when I used to actually go to games, I remember a win feeling nice, so I imagine it would have been under King back in 2000/01. Looking at swindon-town-fc.co.uk we beat them 2-1 in mid december. I remember it being an evening game - but it is dark early around then. Woan and Invincible scored apparently. Can't say I remember either goal, although Woan's was probably good.

Looking at that team, I didn't realised that Martin Williams hung around that long, he must have buggered off soon afterwards. Don't think I ever saw him score. I was going home and away around then, but managed to miss Luton away (I think) where I think he might have scored a cracker. Not sure I ever did see him score, although he might have got one in a cup game. He was pretty shit.

e: might have been cambridge not luton, fuck it I'm too pissed to remember.

It was just a December Saturday, so yeah dark early....Woan's goal was a corner which went straight in...bit of a rarity. martin Williams just got the brace at his former club, Luton.. he indeed was shit. One of T*dd's agent mate job lot, not the best transfer policy to pursue.....see Atiku, Risser, Lanzano, Cibbochi and Uncle Tom Cobleigh

Was that the corner straight in game? In my head that was against Bury, but that's probably because Bury are typically always shit.

That was woan's second direct corner goal wan't it? Didn't he do it in an FA cup game against some non-league opposition? I think it was the same game that Alan Young scored a header, which showed how good their defence was.

Andy King managed to cobble a team out of the shit that Todd had signed, well a side good enough to stay up in the division above the one we're playing in now. I wonder if Di Canio's inevitable successor will manage as much.

e: Ilkeston? didn't their fans get in trouble for being racist or something?

Sooner or later it will click/bond/fall into place/gel/link (delete as appropriate for whatever football cliche you want) and we will batter someone and kick off this season once and for all.

If thats today then 3-1 town, if not 0-2 Rotherham.

Plus I work with a Rotherham fan so I pray for a good performance, no sillly set piece goals conceeded, a Magera "You Tube" free kick, a top corner curler from Garibaldi and a Shaun Taylor bullet header from Flint.  Their goal coming from a tickle of a back pass that Smith lets through his legs.

Also think some of the fans have been too harsh on Devera. Commazi is slow, he's also short.

Our team is in absolute turmoil due to mismanagement. 0-2 Rotherham.

My niece gets married this afternoon, but due to the early kick off I can get to the game and still make the wedding.  I'm taking this as an omen and we will win 3-1. Kerrouche, Ritchie and Gabilondo for Swindon, with Revell getting his obligatory goal for Rotherham.

After the last week the team really need a result and a good performance.

If we can get an early goal then I think we will be ok.

However if Rotherham score first I fear for them, there's a section of the crowd who will turn on the team & it could all go horribly wrong.

Being in a glass half full mood, I will go for 2-1 Town.

Can''t make my mind up about this one, if they push us back early doors like Crewe did and score I don't think we will come back from it, get another dodgy penalty and get some confidence and I think we may see the dawn of a new team.  Does everybody really think Di Canio is on a sticky wicket?

Unbelievable how negative some of the predictions are on here

Rotherham are good but not that good, they've lost Fondre and replaced with Revell.  :hmmm:

We should always be favourites with home advantage, however i do believe they will score at least once probably from a set piece or two.

I say 2 - 1 win for us Ritchie and Kerrouche with the goals and a attendance of just over 7,000.

So much joy you can give, to each brand new bright tomorrow.

Swindon vs Rotherham: Di Canio on verge of Swindon sacking
Riots with players and a lack of wins makes this a must win game for Paolo Di Canio.

It’s unusual for Sky Sports to screen a League Two game live on a Saturday but it’s understandable why they’ve chosen Swindon’s clash with Rotherham.

Swindon were one of the pre-season favourites for the title and with Paolo Di Canio in charge, there was plenty of optimism around The County Ground.

However just one win in the league leaves Di Canio hanging on to his job by a thread and with table toppers Rotherham visiting the County Ground, Di Canio is in a precarious position.

Unbelievable !!!  This is the 'story' currently running on Ladbrokes.com.  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

What a bunch of sensationalist tossers !
Also shows a total lack of knowledge, as this fixture was chosen for screening weeks ago !

Come on Town - show 'em  Town to win 3-1, Flint to score first

Surprised at that. Was only time that P Smith was going to be dropped, Connell was never going to start. Good to see McCormack start. It's a very attacking formation unless Kerrouche is playing out wide?

Substitutes: Smith P(GK), Smith J, Abdulla, Cibocchi, Connell

Disappointed not to see Esajas or Gabilondo on the bench as, for me, they're more 'game-changers' than Jonathan Smith. Also, I know Abdullah is described as an 'attacking midfielder' but he still plays down the middle, strange that Di Canio doesn't have a winger on the bench. Hope a lack of a centre back on the bench doesn't bite him on the bum again either.

In the Cibocchi story on the Adver Di Canio said that he was good cover for LB and CB. On the Abdullah story it talks about him having been a forward and a midfielder. Connell was a converted winger to striker at Grimsby. So, theoretically, we have a bench with cover on nearly all positions on the pitch.

Who in their right mind is going to pay £25 to watch a league 2 match that kicks off early and is on the telly?

Interesting team selection. De Vita wide left and no wingers on the bench - Gabilondo or whatever his name is was the best thing going a couple of games ago. I thought the bench looked pretty week.

Be interesting to see well, all of them play - in particular the goal keeper who has just come out and got no where near the ball...

The Swindon defence are shaky.

Most goals against us this season has been from set pieces. No coincident!

And the wonderful wingers that Di Canio has brought in now seemingly not good enough to make the bench.  Says it all really.

Why are you playing Ritchie on the right and De Vita on the left? They both need to cut in before delivering, I think you're losing out for having Ritchie on the right. Flint and Comazzi need to be more commanding aswell, but you look a decent enough team, just lacking a bit of cutting edge.

Some sloppy passing aside we've looked okay (I started watching from 1-0 down).

Must make our attacking possession count because we will lose otherwise.

I'd forgotten how much I hate watching us on TV.

Ritchie Man of First Half.  Disappointed with De Vita down left.  Nots sure why Gabilondo not starting when he's shown how well he can beat his man.  On balance, though, a decent enough first half against a top of the table side.

Someone needs to invent a nerves/butterflies smilie.

De Vita left wing is a waste.

I think so - that one where he got past his man by the byline, a left footer would have swung it in. He tried to take an extra touch because he's a righty.

I'd like to see him and Ritchie swap for the first 10 minutes of the second half - see how it goes.

Thanks for the link Yeo...Mine came back up just after they scored but will use yours if it goes again.

Good spells for the first half, defense is shaky as said. Commazzi sits back too much and needs to attack the ball. Flint does this but is poor on the ball which I can accept if he is impeccable defensively which he hasn't been.

Front two look lively - if we take care a little bit more and improve our quality we should see a positive second half.

De Vita has one of those faces that i just want to smack. He's fucking gash.

Kerouche looks decent enough, would like to see what he's like with a goal-scoring opportunity though!

That half only cost me $2 to stream, better crack open another bottle. Come on Town!

pretty good half from town! we are the better team and showing some good commitment!

I can only assume he's there because he will at least track back to give Kennedy some cover.

Generally think Town have played well, and at least Revell has got his goal out of the way.

After the goal they certainly gave the impression that they are behind the manager

I don't know if it's just me, but I thought that was bloody brilliant.  Richie and Kerrouche have stood out, but I think for this level with a new team we couldn't have expected much more.  Could easily be ahead.  Need to get the ball in the box earlier, and Flint's distribution has been poor.  Bit worried about Lanzano but it's early days.  Rotherham haven't really threatened other than the goal.

Rotherham are there for the taking.  If you hadn't seen the table, you wouldn't think it was Rotherham topping it...

What a great first half for Swindon, but still only 1-1.

Main issues for Di Canio: We are doing ourselves wrong by applying zonal marking on defensive set pieces in League Two - at least with players not used to it. Most goals against us this season has been from set pieces.

Comazzi and Lanzono both seems a bit shaky and rusty, but I hope they grow on this. Flint is putting a man's shift in - but he has still a lot of learn. The best centre back at the club by a country mile however!

I thought Kerrouche and Magera was lively on top, although the Rotherham defence did well to mark them out. I think we got a great striking partnership on our hands once they get to know each other better.

Rotherham is top of the league and must surely be one of the best teams in this division.

Matt Ritchie is better than this league and it's great that he's in a Swindon-shirt.

Ferry's distribution is ok, but he is a little light weight in the physical league two. I don't fancy McCormack and he showed why in the first half.

Kennedy and Caddis did their best. Caddis is not a Summerbee but he is versitaile

De Vita showed some small positive signs, but is way to light weight for this league - as a few others.

I would love to see Caddis in central midfield, a better wing back on the right side and Gabilondo or Esajas on the left wing instead of De Vita.

Bring on the second half!! COYR!

Agree that it was a good half.  But getting a little tired now of playing well and getting nil points.  Need to be utterly ruthless in the second half.  I'd swap all of PDC's 'passion' for a few points.

As victories go, that one feels so good.  Fantastic team performance and some great individual performances as well.  Connell's gives me the most satisfaction.  In the week when we've had to wave goodbye to Clarke and his bad attitude, the manager now has a selection headache to contend with up front.  Perfect response.  Ritchie's and Connell's comments at the end were spot on.  There's proper team spirit there, no doubt about it.

Just desserts.  Relief.

Excellent win and no more than deserved over that game and last few. Spirit showing through now - PDC has almost got them to the point of walking through brick walls for him.

Shame about red - can't appeal two yellows. Bad ref.

What a relief thats over.....big game for us today and they responded really well. The new players looked good, so remainder of the season will surely provide more games like this rather than the Oxford game....just so pleased we won.

We deserved it and played some really good stuff going forward. They should have had a penalty at 2-1 but who cares!

Luckily Ritchie's miss didn't cost us.

It's over, we've ended the run and we've beaten a team after going behind twice! Onwards and upwards....

My thoughts.

Well earned 3 points against a physical and decent league 2 side. I'll start with the negatives -

Our left side needs work. I thought Kennedy wasn't very good and with De Vita in front of him is not a left winger.

Defensively we need a lot of work. Rotherham's crossing was always causing problems. Revell had a free header for the first and Magera should probably have done better with the second.

The keeper? Not sure, his kicking was good although he had not a lot to do although he did do a superman in the first half and missed the ball by miles.

Ferry and McCormack. Neither impressed me today, perhaps an off day against a physical side but I don't think either did themselves any favours.

Why was there no wingers on the bench?

Now the positives -

Flint. A rock at the back and wins everything in the air. Quite a find, cheers DW!! Needs working on his distribution as he played a few ropey passes but is going to command in this league.

Our right hand side. I thought both Caddis and Ritchie were excellent and they are a massive danger the way they work together. I thought Ritchie was quality and but for missing an open goal would probably have got man of the match.

Abdulla. He didn't really stand out but personally I thought he was better than both Ferry and Mccormack and looks like he'll be useful.

Kerrouche. an absolute enigma, this lad is going to excite and frustrate this season. His work rate was brilliant and he never gave anything up. He was getting some rough treatment from the Rotherham players and kept his cool. Should have scored at the end when the keeper gave him the ball! His corners were brilliant and caused havoc.

Magera - showed some neat touches and a wonderful shot which the keeper touched onto the post. When he gets fully fit, this lad is going to be useful I reckon

Connell - Showed that he didn't let being taken off on Tuesday and not starting affect him. Did his job brilliantly today with 2 smashing headers. I think he is going to become a fans favourite.

So, in short if we sort out defending crosses I think we are going to be there or there abouts at the end of the season. I think Rotherham will do well this season as well, Revell is going to do well in this division.

I'm going next week to the Southend match so looking forward to it now!

Great result, great team effort. Ritchie superb, Flint at fault for 2nd goal in my opinion. Who were you marking- cannot give revell that much space. Why put a striker on him? Apart from that we did really well.

Big win. Defensive issues still there but we are clicking at the front.

A little worried about Southend though as we look made for a Sturrock side, questionable on crosses and not great down the wings defensively.

Onwards and upwards from here, I hope.

Enjoyable game and a good advert for lower tier footy.  The ref was an absolute twat though, and you knew he would be when he ordered the kick-off to be taken because a Rotherham player has strayed over, 20 yards away!  With both sets of supporters upset with the ref it was easy to see why.  Town End at their best, baiting Revell . . . and he had the last laugh, well almost.  Good to see him playing with a smile on his face.

It should have been a penalty but who cares!?! Every other week I read that we missed out on a stonewall. Luck sometimes just has to go our way :)

Most importantly of all is the fact that we deserved this win. Rotherham were not robbed.

Think we saw enough there, to know that the players are behind di Canio, so that's good, 3 of our last 8 wins have been on Sky....don't suppose there's too much chance of many more this season.

Thank Christ for that. Thank for not letting us down Alex Revell, I had £5 at 6-1 for first goal scorer. Its a small victory against the bookies. Every little helps!

As for the game..

I thought Karouche was man of the match purely for his effort and enthusiasm. That's not normally enough, but he must have run a thousand miles. Not sure about quality in front of goal yet...but...

Matt Ritchie has the obvious stand out quality. I was a bit frustrated on a few occasions when he should have passed, and also he has to cut inside to cross. But I may be being a bit harsh :)

Magera  - clearly not fully fit. Did OK, won some headers, but not a big powerful man. What a shot that hit the post, real quality.

Di Vita - Did OK out for a striker being played on the wing. Not a winger though.

Ferry - was OK but no more.

McCormack - Poor game I thought, but has a "presence"

Kennedy - Mostly did OK. Sometimes didn't

Comazzi - Thought he looked OK today, but its true he's slower than Gary Elkins

Flint - Commanding in the air. Ifilesque in the pass.

Caddis - Good footballer, not so useful in the air.

Abdulla - looked to have a decent touch and a good engine. Looked smaller than I imagined him, Curtis Weston physique.

Keeper - talked well. Kicked well. Flapped at one cross. Impossible to say if he's good as he had no real saves to make.

Connell - not a bad first touch on the pitch. Took second well too. Peach of crosses right on his head.

Though it was a hard working and determined display. Sometimes it got a bit scrappy in the air, but for the most part it was a controlling performance and for once the result went right. :)

Nice to see the show of support to Di Canio with the buunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndle after the first goal.

The Achilles heel was evident too. For some reason on set pieces Flint shrinks 6 inches, Caddis needs a step ladder, Comazzi (or Devera) vanish totally. We need to sort this out. That said, Rotherham were just as ineffective.

Good performance. Great win. Lets make sure we kick on..

Now that is impressively prompt.

2-1 win I think. Optimistic to the last. Revell scores for them though, that's as nailed on as it comes...think I'll put money on him to score first.

Which one? There was one where the ball went into our dugout and we didn't give it back too quickly. I don't think PDC was involved in this (initially at least).

I think there was one after a foul too, but didn't see that.

Grabban got the better of Comazzi at the Town End end, with the defender going in slightly late on him. Was a definite penalty for me, but as Costanza says, we were due a bit of luck after have stonewallers denied at Cheltenham and Dagenham!

The Rotherham players didn't appeal which was odd, Grabban held his hands up but did little else. In the comfort of my home it was a penalty in real time and the replays simply confirmed this. That said, after watching Martin Scott claim that Kerrouche had dived for one earlier foul I interpreted the denied penalty as justice :)

A much needed win for the boys, well done. To beat the team that's top of the table after an impressive string of games is very commendable. It seems that it's set pieces this year that are our weakness as it was the final few minutes of the game last season. Let's hope this issue is addressed sooner rather than later.

He said our players dived all over the place, and they were the inocent ones. Well he was off the bench on a regular basis. I think he accused Caddis of taking a dive when he was caught late by Revell, which, Revell should've, in my opinion, should've got a booking as it was so late.

Thought we played ok today, nothing spectacular but the 3 points is the most important thing

I reckon Comazzi red card is a blessing in disguise, as him and Kennedy appear to be the weak links in our side.

Would like to see Connell and Kerrouche start together against Southend.  Both like to round around and put defenders under pressure, and that only can help the teams cause.

Magera played well, but i think he will be a handful when we play away from home, as the oposition wll have more emphasis on attacking us.  He will then be able to hold the ball up and assist in quick counter attacks.

Hoping we can go on a long unbeaten run now.

Do you think Devera would be better, or was this based on us getting someone else in?

For what it's worth, Cibbochi didn't look too uncomfortable at centre back, so perhaps he'll get the spot ahead of Devera.

I still have kittens every time we are put into a defensive position. I thought Comazzi did well and was so harsh to be sent off.
We played some nice stuff and got better as the game wore on. Can't believe what I'm hearing about Scott, what a total twat.
Raffa did well considering where he was playing. Plenty of running.

Chuffed to bits for Connell - what a beaut.

Had a good feeling about Kerrouche and other than the kick off and the gift that he failed to take he did very little wrong, full of running and has real quality when in possession of the ball.

First time I've seen big Bam Magera, thought he did well and but for a fine save from Logan would've scored a scorcher down into the bottom corner.

Positive and encouraging signs today. Hope we get another CB in - although Cibocchi did well when he came on.

Anyone with a half a brain will understand that Swindon Two won't do anything this season unless we strengthen defensively.

A young loanee doesn't strike me as the answer either. Hopefully the defender that Di Canio has in mind has the the League experience of Andy Frampton but the ability of someone better than Andy Frampton!

I knew Kerrouche clattered their 'keeper quite hard, but I didn't realise it was that hard.

Quote
Andy Scott was disappointed after seeing his side slip to a 3-2 defeat against Swindon Town.

The Millers led 1-0 and 2-1, but two goals from Alan Connell ensured Scott's side tasted defeat in League Two for the first time this season.

"We probably deserved a draw," he said after the game.

"At 2-1 up we had a strong shout for a penalty and if we'd scored from that I think we would have won the game.Danny Schofield dived in and got himself sent off, and then we didn't mark at a set piece for their second goal, and from there we were on the back foot.We didn't play well and made a lot of poor decisions defensively to put ourselves under pressure.

"But we showed our quality going forward and scored two goals away from home," he added.

In a game that saw two players sent off, Conrad Logan took a nasty blow to the face and looks likely to require extensive dental treatment after a collision in the opening exchanges, and Scott explained the extent of the injury:

"Conrad has ended up with a broken nose and half of his teeth missing. His nose will have to be set and he'll need some dental work.He must have 10 teeth that aren't in the right place, and for him to stay on was magnificent. He was still bleeding heavily from his nose after the game and his teeth were in a bad state."

I don't think it was Kerrouche, pretty sure it was one of his own players.

Good result and massive credit to Connell for his reaction to being subbed off midweek.

A great deal of work needed at the back, Comazzi is no better than Devera and was a fool for picking up that second yellow - however harsh - as he's a senior pro and should have known that their player was going absolutely nowhere. A totally needless challenge. Kennedy is still the weak link for me, would not be surprised to see Cibocchi come in next weekend. Lanzano had a quiet game, didn't stand a chance with either goal due to the piss poor marking. Caddis was steady.

De Vita is not a winger and felt Gabilondo would have been a better option although Rafa did okay in spells. The first time I've really seen McCormack and thought he was poor, gave away posession too frequently and didn't win nearly enough for my liking but still preferable to Smith. Ferry was unfortunate to be substituted but Abdulla acquitted himself well for a young player making his pro debut - he looked very confident.

I was very disappointed with Magera and felt he looked as lazy as Clarke and not much stronger in the air either. I'm sure he'll come good after some match practice but we spent far too much time hoofing the ball up to him today and seeing it come straight back at us. Kerrouche struggled with the physical side of the game today but I doubt we'll play many teams as physical as Rotherham were today, nevertheless he put in a good shift and played fairly well.

Flint and Ritchie both had excellent games. No need to say anything about Connell.

I thought it spoke volumes after midweek that Ritchie et al ran half the pitch to celebrate with Di Canio.

One final thought - could someone tell Paolo that all of our headed goals this season have come from players who aren't big tall forwards?

Yep, Kerrouche was running towards him but the centre back between them hit Logan (accidentally, obviously) as far as I could see.

Yeah and then quick thinking by Ritchie nearly created a chance.

Someone needs to give Scott a drug test !!

The BBC Radio Sheffield reporter, like everyone else, was more interested in asking questions about Di Canio/Swindon.

The interview is essentially:-

"We were poor but Swindon did this and Swindon did that but as I said we were poor but Swindon this/Swindon that"

It is quite funny.

I think Scott needs to actually watch the game. I don't remember any of our players rolling over when untouched. Kerrouche had his ankle trodden on really nastily a couple of times and Rotherham were physical and in some tackles quite dirty.

He thinks it is a circus here, well we well we went for your juggler and take the 3 points you twonk!

Well, Ritchie did quite a bit. I wouldn't necessarily say we were any worse than them though, both sides went down easily once they realised the ref loved the sound of his whistle and would give anything.

When you place Scott's comments on Sky against the comments of the Sky commentators (and Beagrie in particular) which indicated strongly that the win was deserved, he simply looks bitter and a little out of touch.  He's obviously hurting because their unbeaten start to the season has now come to an end.  Maybe he'll feel different in the morning.

Enjoyable match and I'm delighted with the three points, I thought it was a good performance and the signs were encouraging that we will soon be moving up the table.

As impressive as Flint is defensively, I haven't seen a worse defender at the club in terms of distribution.

Fair play to Ritchie, I think he has been poor so far for most of this season but was ace today and easily our best player.

Awful refereeing aside am I the only one who thinks Comazzi is a stupid twat for making that challenge?

The player was going nowhere, he knew he was on a yellow and it was obvious the referee was making it up as he went along. It's fortunate that his moment of rash stupidity didn't cost us.

Wow, just listened to Andy Scott, he really is a mental. Ritchie went down a little bit softly at times (as did their players... see Comazzi's second yellow) but other than that, the only time our players went down was when Rotherham left their studs up and foot in. What an absolute clown.

Good performance, suspect defending (still!), should have had a couple more (Ritche and Kerrouche open goals), hope we kick on and beat Luggy next week.

What i didn't understand about the ref was the inconsistency - first player to kick the ball away got booked, no one thereafter... Comazzi gets his second yellow for a challenge exactly the same as the ones on Ritchie and Caddis as we wound the clock down in the corner yet they get away without a card. If you're going to give shitty soft decions, at least do it consistently.

He said our players dived all over the place, and they were the inocent ones. Well he was off the bench on a regular basis. I think he accused Caddis of taking a dive when he was caught late by Revell, which, Revell should've, in my opinion, should've got a booking as it was so late.

And he said it was the Paolo Di Canio Show.

Just wanted to throw my two-penneth in:

A great performance in the last third of the pitch, but a couple of major areas for improvement:

1) Anchorman midfielder:
It seemed to me that Ferry and a back-tracking Ritchie did most of the ball-winning in midfield for us. McCormack was pretty anonymous and his distribution was very poor at times. This, to me, limited Ferry's performance as he was trying to do the anchorman and creative roles

2) Left-side:
Everything we did well going forward was down the right flank. Given the players at our disposal, why was De Vita played on the left? Perhaps it was a deliberate ploy by DiCanio to focus on their left side (which looked vulnerable against the on-song Caddis and Ritchie). The concern is that it will make us easier to play against if teams know that all our quality comes down our right side

3) Defensive communications:
We could easily have conceded more than the two we did - and those 2 were easily preventable. Most of our defensive undoing comes from an inability to clear our lines and a basic lack of communications. I think this will get better with time, but we need to play the same back 4 and keeper in order to improve the comms.

Also, Comazzi's decision making was questionable at times (i.e. diving into the tackle in our box - which should have been a pen, and (although it was a harsh 2nd booking) commiting the foul that earned the 2nd yellow).

Some massive positives to take forward though....Kerrouche, Ritchie, Caddis, Flint, Ferry, Connell, Abdullah all looked quality. Thought that Magera was slightly off the pace but certainly had decent technical ability and will come good with match fitness.

If we can protect the defence with a ball-winning anchorman and improve the communications at the back, I think we could find our feet and push on from here.

A massive step in the right direction. We now need to follow it up with consistent good results and continuity within the starting 11.

Let's not get carried away chaps  ;) Would rather come to the game than watch it on the box and have to be paying those robbing bastards at Sky, however finances dictate that I can't make many, tho looking forward to my train trip up for the Barnet game at the end of the month. With Parkin09 shoving me a few bob for petrol it makes more trips up possible, we have selected Bradford as the game to come up to in October, would be nice to do one a month. However now Boo's Boutique Hotel is open for business I may make a few more

My 3-1 to Rotherham match prediction was a bit of reverse psychology, as I do normally predict a win, so that worked perfectly.

Enjoyed the game, apart from the whistle happy ref, just let em get on with it ffs. Not sure about Magera, as it's his first start I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, first touch a bit dodgy and can't seem to jump more than inch. Thought Flint was out standing in the air again, passing a bit iffy though. De Vita I thought did really well being played out of position. Kerwooooosh never stopped running(hope you were watching Clarke) Ritchie seems to perform well every time I see him, and he's deffo a pain in the butt for defenders.

Connell for me, will score a hat full in this division, good in the air, holds the ball up well and brings the wingers into play. He has to start Mr di Canio.

Hopefully this will be the catalyst for better things

All in all a great day out, roll on Barnet

Good win today and a really entertaining game.

Thought Ritchie was motm by a fucking mile though, different class to any other player on the pitch. Having said that all of them played a part and really pleased for Connell

Just a few concerns:

The goalkeeper - If Smith had flapped like he did and made the same pretty bizarre decisions at times, a lot of people would be on his back immediately. His kicking was good mostly, although a lot of balls were wasted as they went too fucking far!

Mcormack - Lost count of the number of mislaid passes he made, if he can control the lead in his foot, he'll be more than useful.

Kennedy - Still our weak link. I know he's young and still learning, but I'd rather he did it somewhere else!

DEFENDING SET PIECES - Why can't we do this? Flint is an absolute rock in defence, apart from when we are defending set pieces. This is something the coaching staff need to work on as the team as a whole are an absolute shambles when defending corners and free kicks.

See this comment really winds me up. People aren't just on Phil Smith's back if he flaps at a cross.  People get on Smith's back because for the last 3 years he's been flapping at crosses, kicking like an out of form paralympian, and generally has costed us a fair few points.  It's the culmulation of this that has led to people generally jumping on his back should he make mistakes.

The new keeper has come in, and flapped at a cross, and as level minded supporters we can accept this, no harm was done, we came away with the points. Now if he continues to make errors which cost us dearly then a number of supporters will quite rightly raise their concerns.  Which I think is fair enough.

Unless you think it'd be fairer if we just give him shed loads of abuse for flapping at a cross on his home debut?

No offence intended Herthab, as your post contains nothing to have a go about, but sometimes it's almost like some people feel you're slating someone's mother when they have the cheek to point out that Mr Smith has yet again looked unconvincing.

I take your point and agree that Smith has made his fair share of mistakes (He's also kept us in games at times and gained us points by doing so). I wouldn't want the new guy getting abuse for mistakes at all, whether now or after a few months, hopefully it was just nerves and him being a bit 'ring rusty'.

(He does need to turn his bionic leg down a notch though!)

Looking at the post i would say it looked like i was having a go at people not turning up....i apologise because that wasn't my intention.
I have missed matches and to be honest wasn't going to go this season...Di Canio changed my mind so if it looked like that it wasn't meant....all i will say is though it is not £25 quid to watch the match,i paid £19 for the Townend today and many pay less when aquiring a season ticket...which can be paid for monthly.
If i lived out of Swindon i would struggle to make any matches....so again apologies to those who took it as a dig.

Very pleased to end the run of league defeats today. We should've won by 4 or 5 but our one man defence (Flint) needs to be stregthened. Lanzano did flap at the ball before their first goal but his distribution was much better than Smith's.

Like others have said, Kennedy is the weak link in the team. Magera had a great shot but continued to look poor (wasn't he marking Revell for his second?). McCormack played one glorious ball but misplaced just about everything else. De Vita did okay but I would have liked to have seen a natural winger (Gabilondo) in the side.

Ritchie man of the match but pleased for Connell - hopefully he'll work hard enough to stay in the side.

The ref was a cunt for both sides. What a prick.

Sad to see so many empty seats around me - we pretty much had the whole row! Hopefully this win will bring a few back for Southend, but they have to drop these ridiculous prices.

Not just the prices. It was on TV and it was an early kick off more than enough to put a lot of people off. Hopefully the TV money will make up the shortfall in gate receipts.

Just as an after thought I was going to order my ticket on line and pick it up. I could have swallowed the extra quid booking fee as a convenience to me, but to charge another quid for using a debit card, what the fuck is that all about? I know it's only a quid but no one charges for using a debit card FFS

Off playing football in the middle of the sticks. It was like traveling back in time!!

We won :)

Anyways -  nice to see we win a game and you've got nothing to talk about apart from me.

If anyone has bothered to read my posts and understand them - I've for the most part been very supportive of Di Canio. I thought the whole Clarke thing was a complete farce (and it was) and I've said results havent been great (they havent) but some how that translates into I want the team to lose every week.

I watched about the first 50-55 minutes and have the rest on sky+ at home. We played much better football and should have even gone a goal down, Rotherham didnt have a sniff. Set piece our downfall again.

Maybe if Connell had started we could have been out of sight early on - we seemed to swing the ball in alot but no one seem to get on the end.

Still think we need a Centre Back so I am a bit surprised to hear this talk of another striker coming in.

I asked the question when paying for my saints ticket over the phone, what I actually said was, "Can you explain the pound charge for using my debit card? When I go into Tesco's and pay with it, they don't add a quid to my bill!"

The answer I got was, "I dunno, I've wondered about it as well".

Makes me laugh all this bullshit about who goes and doesn't go.  If you go fair play to you, if you decide to stay at home, good on you.  Neither party is going to get a pat on the back or a slagging off from me.  Just do what you want to do, shouldn't make any odds to others on here.

I agree.

The only thing that does wind me up a bit is the fans who don't manage to get to the game but still feel the need to go on-line & be critical of a players performance (and no, this isn't aimed at anyone in particular).

As for today, thought that we generally played well, with everyone putting in a decent shift.

Obviously the likes of Connell & Ritchie will get a lot of the attention, but felt that there were several other players who put in solid performances.

Very nice to see the front two working hard, and both had a couple of decent efforts, (I'm ignoring the open goal that Mehdi missed at the end).

Comazzi is a bit slow, but it's nice to see a Centre-Half who is comfortable to bring the ball out of defence which he did a few times today (reminds me a bit of that old CH of ours that can't be mentioned who went Gay).   As for his Red Card, I can't imagine anyone has been sent off for two more soft bookings, ever.

De Vita took a fair bit of criticism, but I can see why Paolo (is that OK Nev?) played him as he did track back a lot, even if he wasn't that effective going forward.

Caddis (or Cadiz if you listen to Beagrie on Sky), linked well with Ritchie, just need to work on a combination on the left that will do as well.

One massive positive thing to note...Our fitness.

Kerrouche and Ritchie had every right to get cramped up or generally be absolutely fooked by the end, given the shifts they'd put in and the ground they'd covered - but both of them carried on at full tilt until the end.

Even in injury time, we didn't really give them a sniff.

Looks like all that extra fitness training that Clarke hates so much is paying off for the rest of the squad!

There's no pound charge for using a debit card, only credit cards. Whoever you spoke to must be one of the newbies, started differentiating between the two towards the end of last season after a fair bit of 'feedback'.

Have a listen to Rotherham's manager Andy Scott whinging on the BBC site. I've never heard such an example of a bad loser from a manager before.........what a turd. Apparently Swindon's players were diving at every opportunity, Di Canio's "antics" were theatrical and Rotherham should have won 3-1.

Obviously not the same game that I watched! Apart from the 2 silly set piece goals given away it was all Swindon. He didn't see Ritchie's open goal miss, or Kerrouche's, or Magera's shot that hit the post. Swindon dominated from start to finish. And if he takes the time to watch the game again he'll see that there was no diving by any Swindon player - just the occasional assault on them by the Rotherham thugs. And let's not forget that their player was deservedly red-carded. In fact he could have had a red for the second challenge alone. None of the cards given to Comazzi were bookable offences.

It seemed to me that that the quid would be added no matter what card you used(credit or debit), as I didn't go through with the transaction there's no way I can confirm wether it would have been refunded or not

Positives today - Ritchie, excellent. Kerrouche a real handful, very aggressive. Connell, what a fantastic attitude from that player, and deserves more starts. Lanzano wasnt too bad.

Magera looked a lot more interested, and showed fantastic skill in the ball that hit the post, but he still doesnt look fit enough.

Negatives - Commazi for me is an absolute liability. Was blatently a penalty for Rotherham at 2-1, which would have been game over. Trundled around the park. This player will cost us goals every single game. Godsend he is now suspended, praying Devera takes his chance! Caddis yet again did not deliver good crosses. We know he has no physical presence, so he must make the most of his time on the ball. Most of our problems are at the back. De Vita left side, what happened to Gabbilondo? Must have been injured?

Overrall it was a very good game, great entertainment for any neutral. The Rotherham goalkeeper was very brave for staying on. Kerrouche headed their defenders arm, who in tern smacked their goalkeeper in the face with an elbow. The blood was everywhere, and his nose was visibly badly broken. Very suprised their physio let him continue, but fair play.

If you reaad the Rotherham United Mad board there views of us aren't exactly complimentary the sour grapes of Andy Scott must rub off on their fans too
Just been reading some of their comments. Fuck me are they bad losers or what?

What are the "antics" that Di Canio and Swindon supposedly got up to? It seemed to me that the only "antics" was when one of their players steamed in to the Swindon dugout and Di Canio was trying to calm a few of them (including Scott) down.

They are saying on their board that Swindon were rubbish (!) and won't be challenging for promotion. I'd be more worried if I were a Rotherham fan based on today's game. It's all beginning to take shape at Swindon now and I reckon there'll be no stopping us.

It'll be interesting to see where the 2 clubs are in May.........

It suggests that we should be practicising defending against set pieces. Both goals were piss poor. I bet Revell can't believe his luck when he plays Swindon.

I was in a right piss after the Soton game but I've got the passion back after that. Not only a good result but a good performance. The only negative is giving Revell two free headers. Who was supposed to pick him up - was it Maghera? Other than that they had one other free header and not much else.
Comazzi looked better than Tuesday but we should have signed Guy Branston from Torquay.
As for Scott - what a deluded Scum cunt. Still, I'm loving it that a rival manager is talking about the PdC circus and bitching and moaning about our players not playing nicely. Fucking great and lets hope a few more managers are saying the same thing. His team were no angels and it was one of his own who took out the albino keeper. Anyway fick Scott - onwards and upwards hopefllu.
Fair play to connell - that how you show a manager you're worth your place.

Scott should stick this in his pipe, strike a match and inhale.  Delusional doesn't even come close.  The fact that he's blind to the real reasons for his team's defeat can only work in the favour of us and the other sides that will be challenging for promotion.

The stats don't lie and we were good value for the win. Millers fans will have to get a bit more used to losing me thinks, I was expecting a bit more from them to be honest. Been at work today, but managed to catch the score at full time. Fantastic to get the three points, and great to see Connell grab a couple. Looks like a thoroughly deserved win, whatever Andy Scott might say. Also good to see neutrals on twitter saying it was a good game to watch - clearly we did something right.

Looking ahead, Paolo has a bit of a selection headache now. We really need to sort things out at the back, and goodness knows who he's going pick in CM, LM and up front! Let's hope this is the start of a run... but even if we don't beat Southend, we've stopped the rot early(ish).

This is the first time that I've seen the team this season, albeit on TV. I won't go in to too much detail as I felt that most of the players I saw today have got enough about them to provide a usefull contribution over the course of a long season.

I do however think that a CB and possibly a CM and left sided FB might be useful loan addittions next week, maybe even a solid DM too.  We have enough going forward but back four is still holding a question Mark.

Just watched the highlights on the FL Show... featured game - one of the positives of the media circus!

Have to say it could have been a penalty to them, although you can see why the ref didn't give it, as it would have been a touch soft. Then again, that didn't worry him for Comazzi's second yellow, which was just bizarre! Great to see Connell getting into good positions and sticking those headers away - have thought he looked useful since the day he signed and hopefully we can carry on from here.

I think the highlight had to be Di Canio hugging the 4th official when we scored the third!

Pretty much everything already been said tonight.

Today was a very good win against a very capable, tough, attack minded and well organised side.

Comazzi is getting some unfair stick though. Granted, he's not the most mobile CB we've ever had, but he's a determined fucker and plays with a bit of 'old pro' guile when it's needed (he's all over most younger, fitter, stronger players with shirt pulling, nipple crunching etc) and it works a treat - most of the time.

Probably better as a covering / squad CB fill-in to a younger, more mobile player, but I don't think he's the liabilty some are suggesting he is.

Very pleased for Connell. If he can get behind defenders like he did today, he'll create fucking bedlam for us - especially with quality service like he got for both his goals.

Agree about Kennedy. Going to be a very good player in a year or two, and would be comfortable in any L2 side that are content to languish in the basement. We need better quality at LB now though.

Ritchie was fucking class today. Tore them several new ones. Outstanding pace, skill and stamina.

Very happy tonight. Just hope we kick on now and gain some real belief from today.

Andy Scott is indeed a bitter, moaning, cockerney, cunt.

A word of caution....we've already had evidence this year of us looking very good on Sky, with MR to the forefront. Think we need to back this up with something more tangible, before getting carried away.

Wow! Watched the game when I got home last night. Very entertaining.

Wasn't impressed by Lanzano nor Magera. Both probably need a few games to get into the swing of things.

Keroosh impressed. He was all over the park! De Vita seemed to take up many of the same positions as Magera and Keroosh in the 1st half,  but stuck to the touchline more in the 2nd.

Connell looked very sharp, while Ritchie worked incredibly hard.

McCormack, Ferry and Abdullah were all very workmanlike.

Flint looked good, but had a few momentary lapses. Comazzi looked very slow.

Caddis ran forward lots and lots, but I don't remember too much quality product.

Kennedy I thought did ok. He's better going forward than defending. Cibocchi seemed no nonsense - Didn't notice him much, which I guess is a good sign.

All in all, a good performance from a 'mid table' side. As Reg says though, I wonder if we will get the same performance levels when there are no Sky cameras there? I hope so, but I also hope that we will look more threatening in front of goal - 90 mins of threat of the same standard as when Connell came on.

Grabban got the better of Comazzi at the Town End end, with the defender going in slightly late on him. Was a definite penalty for me, but as Costanza says, we were due a bit of luck after have stonewallers denied at Cheltenham and Dagenham!

I've seen said incident again, and yes it was a penalty. Watching in the ground I thought Comazzi had got a touch on the ball.

As for our sending off. What a complete and utter joke.

Looking at the match again, the way Connell makes a yard of space in the area to get his all important headers on goal is something to behold.

I believe this is down to his lower league experience...He simply knows had to get a yard of space as he knows lower league defenders and what they're about.

He has to start from hereon in - and I believe will be our talisman.

It's any 2 from that 3 against Southend. Bam Magera looked bloody good yesterday, if slightly unfit. When his levels are the same as the rest he'll be awesome in this league. Won't score many but will be the perfect foil for Kerrouche or Connell. Really think it'll be Magera and one other going forward as a rule, but who that one other is this week is anyone's guess.;

Not been home yet to watch the second half on sky plus but watched the hour long highlights on sky.

Whilst, I realise the second half was condensed and not in its entiretly I thought we played well.

Comazzi didnt have much to do all game he did? appears not....not sure on that viewing where the stick is coming from - he looked ok to me but then again Rotherham didnt get forward.

Quite possible the recipient of the softest red card ever - and Scott had the cheek to call our players divers. Two little bits of shoulder to shoulder contact and their player has hit the deck. I'm not sure i'd consider either 'booking'  a foul let alone a booking!

Cant even appeal it.

McCormack looked pretty wasteful in possession and Abdulla looked full of energy when he came on and was willing to put the hard work that so many young loan players feel is beneath them.

Connells movement was fantastic - did to them exactly what Revell did to us.

Kerrouche looked good and a hard worker. Magera looked like he had something about him - he was marking Revell for both goals, the first one he's dropped 5 yards to win the first header, hence being off Revell when he scored the header. Apparently Di Canio said he was only 40% fit, if so why leave start him and not Connell?

Rotherham could have had a penalty but if stupid chin hair guy had been less worried about going down (we're the divers right scott?) and made more effort to square the ball they'd have scored. Yes there was contact but fuck me, contact doesnt mean you lose all control of your limbs and fall to the ground. I'd have been livid  if say Ritchie was in that position and didnt manage to square the ball.

Andy Scott, post match  - what fucking game did he watch? I think the only thing he said that was true was the fact Rotherham were poor. Diving and rolling around on the floor? yeah our players went down (19 fouls wasnt it?) he had a go at Caddis who Revell clearly caught (accidently, but contact) it was his own player who crashed into the goal keeper. He also said the physio hadnt been on? Keeper plugged his own nose did he? Good luck the physio wasnt needed more, the knee high, studs in challenge on Kennedy was horrendous and matey boys second yellow could have done damage to Kerrouches ankle to.

Then he went on some rant about the Di Canio show? why? because you're a bitter nobody no one knows or gives a fuck about? Sure, we get more media attention but Rotherham players kicking off on our staff isnt going to help and Andy Scott spending most of his post match interview talking about STFC and Di Canio isnt going to help matters is it?

What a deluded bitter prick.

Can't argue with any of that, spot on.

Scott is a grade A prick.

Saying that, the Rotherham fans are pretty decent. Mostly pretty fair evaluation of the game here.

As Chalkies Shorts said a few pages back, felt really pissed off with it all on Wednesday, but now feeling a lot more positive.  When we went 2-1 down it was like Oxford all over again, so delighted to see us turn it around and get the 3 pts.  Pleased for Connell, what a way to get your point across. I thought Ritchie was superb yesterday constantly causing problems.

Clearly there are still problems defensively, we just don't seem able to defend set pieces and this needs sorting asap.  Kennedy seems to be going backwards unfortunately, he's constantly beaten and his distribution is more often than not a hoof ball up field.  It will be interesting to see if Cibbochi starts at LB on Saturday.

All in all, we were well worth the win and hopefully we can push on from this.  It will be good to start seeing a settled team, although I've got a feeling there's going to be a few more games of chopping and changing players.

Risser was on the pitch at the end wearing a suit.  Is he now injured or just not considered good enough to make the squad?  The same for the two wingers, not even on the bench yesterday?  We do seem to have a fair number of players that Di Canio has brought in who he now seemingly doesn't think are good enough, which is all rather strange?

Ref was useless and my dad commented early on that he was going to lose control of it.  We couldn't see why Comazzi had been red carded from the Arkells and having seen it again, what a joke.  Nothing in at all.  Andy Scott has gone right down in my estimation, always thought he was a reasonable bloke, but now he just looks like a poor loser.  Top of the league, you're having a laugh!

Oh, meant to say, I was truly annoyed by the ref congratulating Revelle (I may as well spell it how it's now pronounced) and sharing a laugh after he scored the second with the Townend a few minutes previous calling him a cunt. Impartiality you useless cunt, learn about it.

Curse that Rich Pullen not bothering to make the effort to travel from Newcastle every week!

One apologises unreservedly  :toocool:

I don't have a car but I had a quick glance at how much it would cost if I plan ahead for Aldershot Town at the end of November.  :sherlock:

Train on the day (12 hour round trip)

Off-Peak Return: £126.60
Matchday Ticket: £20.00 + Food/Drink/Programme.

You're looking at well over £150 for that one.

Plane

Taxi from work: £15
Return flight from Newcastle to Bristol Airport: £47.98
Return on the flyer from Airport to Temple Meads: £10.00
Off-Peak Open Return from Bristol Temple Meads to Westbury: £16.00
Off-Peak Open Return from Westbury to Swindon: £12.60
Matchday Ticket: £20 + food/drink/programme
Metro home from Newcastle airport to Chillingham Road: £3.60

POSTPONED DUE TO A FROZEN PITCH

I work, I get paid reasonably well for what I do but I cannot justify the costs. Trust me I wish I could!

Might as well round it up eh :)

I worked out at the start of the season that my cheapest game this season would Bradford City away and that's still quite pricey.

Also despite the prices, I'm actually planning to go to that Aldershot game (saving over three pay days should soften the blow).

I'll be the one with a collection bucket outside the ground.

Just a quick word for Di Canio today. Been critical in recent weeks, but he struck back today.

Gave his players some affection, and it looked like we had a great team spirit. I guess Gabilondo was injured, but apart from that (and maybe Commazi) it was a good first XI.

His assistants do seem to like to get in a bit of bother.

It was an interesting team selection yesterday. Was a bit concerned before the game kicked off because some of the selections baffled me. Where were Gabilondo and Esajas? Are they injured? I wasn't surprised to see Connell left out of the starting 11 either sadly.

It was a decent first half from us. It reminded me very much of the Oxford game where we had much of the play and played some decent stuff at times yet our set piece defending let us down. It's something that really does need to be addressed by PDC. We've been doing it all season and nothing has improved yet so it needs looking at and pretty urgently as well because many teams will score goals from set pieces at this level. In fact 4 of the 5 goals yesterday all came from set plays and a lot of teams will be strong in that area this season so we need to sort it.

Second half was a bit more even in my opinion with both teams looking to use their advantage in the air. There wasn't a lot of stuff played on the deck from either side but we had much of the chances again. Magera hitting the post and Kerrouche missing a sitter at the end not to mention the 2 goals we managed to produce. I think we deserved it overall.

The ref. Arggghhhhh why do refs have to be so inconsistent all the time? Some of his decisions were well off the mark and yet you'll see a similar challenge 5 minutes later and he wouldn't blow for the foul. The 2nd booking for Comazzi was a joke. I'd argue it wasn't even a foul let alone a booking. I reckon he just felt buckled under the pressure of the Rotherham players and wanted to even things up. Poor and very shocking really.

I thought Connell was superb when he came on. Why he isn't starting I don't know. Him and Kerrouche have been our best 2 strikers by a long way so in my opinion they should both start. Ritchie had his best game for us so far this season. Missed that sitter but his crosses were excellent and that's now 3 goals for him from the right side of midfield he is going to be a very handy asset to us this season I really hope we don't sell in January. Was impressed with Abdulla's cameo, Comazzi looks better than Devera but still suspect at times. Flint I thought had a poor game for his standards. His distribution was shocking at times and he made the header that led to the first goal for them. Still won a lot of balls in the air and on the ground though. De Vita did alright out wide. In fact I think he looked better there than upfront. I really would like to see Gabilondo there more often though. I think we'd have looked really dangerous with him and Ritchie on the flanks yesterday.

Finally Andy Scott. Clearly bitter but it's not the first time. He was known for it at Brentford and I remember the 3-2 win there in 09/10 where he claimed we weren't very good and that they should have been above us. Shame for him they finished 11th and we were still in the running for 2nd on the last day. We could easily have had 3 more yesterday through Kerrouche, Ritchie and Magera.

Anyway great 3 points. Onward and upwards.

Good post Onion, funny how on the Rotherhams fans forum they think the ref cost them!
My feeling is that maybe Connell wouldn't have made such an impact if he started,De Vita at Bristol played his best game when coming on.
That said he will be starting next Saturday i feel and rightly so,thought De Vita had his best game yesterday doing alot of donkey work which was good.
I think we are all going to get used to interesting selections in the coming months for Paolo's starting eleven.

Have got to say that the two bookings which Comazzi received must equal the softest sending off in FL history. After seeing the second on TV again, the Rotherham player deserved an Oscar.

Although the empty seats doesn't look that impressive on the tv because as expected the numbers were down, I still think we had the second or third highest attendance in leagues one and two. Most teams in our league would love the sort of numbers we get at the CG. A few sides in division two could be intimidated by the numbers but an awful lot will also get a big lift from playing in front of a big crowd.

Would expect this Saturday's crowd to be up around the 8,000 Mark, don't think Southend bring great numbers but hoping after yesterday's win a few more undecided fans will turn up and give it a go. Walk up match day tickets are high this season so totally understand why some fans choose not to come and others are just unable too though.

Was at first thinking lower Coca but this is the first weekend after the school holidays when pretty much everyone is back to normal so Thats where I got the 8,000 from. We may get a few extra walk up fans if some were impressed with Saturday's effort on tv.

Enjoyed the FL show highlights. Thanks to whoever posted them.

I loved Di Canio & Co leaping around like menty's when we scored the third goal, right in front of Cunty Scott. The look on his face as he tries to keep from boiling over is fucking priceless. It might explain his deluded, bitter post-match comments as well.

My mate was the 4th official on Saturday and he said that PDC was a real gentleman before, during and after the game, he was a bit shocked when Mr Di Canio grabbed him and started dancing with him!

I would not go quite as far as goalscorer Alan Connell, who said, "When the County Ground's buzzing like that, I don't think there is any better place to be,"

They laughed but don't think it was a pi** take per se, think he was trying to be geuine but clearly trying to say the right things. He was loved up at Grimbsby and dealt with the whole transfer like a true gent, thanking the fans, explaining his decision, definately one of the good guys. As for the guardian article we seem to be getting a bit of stick and labelled a tin pot club at the minute. I usually love to Guardian footy podcast with James Richardson but they've been giving Di Canio and us a bit of a rough ride when it's come up. Usual stuff of, oh must be hard for him with Swindon's money problems and stuff.

Just read on the BBC that Conrad Logan is to have surgery on his broken nose and smashed teeth, apparently some of his teeth were either missing or out of place. Surely their sponge man would of seen how bad it was and still can't understand why he carried on.

What was more bizarre was Mr. Andy Scott of Rotherham's suggestion post-match that Conrad Logan's injury was the fault of Swindon Town the 'Paolo Di Canio Show'.

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Rotherham matchday thread.
Post by: Notts red on Monday, September 5, 2011, 19:03:53
I thought when watching it back, When the camera was on Logan after he was patched up he seemed to tell one of his centre backs to do Magera, maybe he thought it was our player who left an elbow in. It then ties in with what Scott says after the game ?

Dirty tactics ha. To me it looked like their defender collided with the keeper, couldn't really tell though to be fair.

Surprised he carried on if he was swallowing bits of his teeth!

Kerrouche went up with a defender, they made contact as they jumped and the defender clattered into the keeper. Nobody's fault, just one of those things.

Have over the last few years thought our teams have been a soft touch and not street wise at all. Teams have come to the CG and taken the piss with their antics and bully boy tactics. Paolo will have more tricks up his sleeve than most so if we rough teams up or play act within reason I'll be more than happy.

No more or less that Rotherham. He's pinning the ref's dufus display on our players. He gave some soft free kicks both ways.

Really I think he's upset because we got more press coverage than them, despite them being (then) top of the league.

I thought the same Bob. Revell caught Caddis in the very first tackle, I know with the first couple of tackles a player will get away with it but Rotherham seemed to continue that sort of follow through for the rest of the game.

I've been away so only just watched the game through the miracle of Sky+

I would echo the general sentiment that it was a very encouraging performance. We played some nice football and should win a lot more than we lose this season.

That 'win more than we lose' process could of course be hindered somewhat if we continue to defend set pieces as badly as we have been doing. This is clearly a coaching issue and look forward to seeing evidence of it having been addressed this afternoon.

A few things that struck me about the game:

Astonishing moment #1. Ritchie's miss. I'm not going to cane the guy because he is a class act who is way better than L2 and it didn't affect the result. That said, that was worth a WTF!!??!!**@@

Astonishing moment #2 Comazzi's first yellow.

Astonishing moment #3 Comazzi's second yellow. Have a fucking word with yourself ref.

Astonishing moment #4 Kerrouche's miss after their keeper went all 'Nicky Hammond' on us.

On the subject of the latter, I have to admit to being a fully paid up member of the Kerrouche fan club. I love his attitude and his style of play. It is extremely refreshing. [humble pie]I had consigned him to being a squad/bit part player on the basis of a Youtube clip. The rationale being that You Tube clips tend to make average players look brilliant. In my opinion, even in his You Tube clip he only looked average therefore the real thing must be rather less than average. Note so self: Don't take any notice of fucking Youtube clips. Only judge a player on what he does on a Town shirt. Nothing else matters[/humble pie]. Others take note!

Other observations:

Lanzano - I find it very hard to trust a GK who wears a short sleeved shirt. It brings back too many memories of Fabien Barthez. Prove me wrong son, prove me wrong. Better still, chuck that number you hacked off at the elbow, go and see the kit man and ask him nicely for new, long sleeved shirt.

Magera - I think that once he gets his fitness levels up he will prove to be a class act who get us goals at this level. Some of which, might even be Fjortoft-esque, if that volley/half volley which smacked against the post is anything to go by. Showed good signs of linking up with Kerrouche as well.

Andy Scott - You pathetic fucking wanker. I'm saying no more than that.

Prior to this game there had been rumours of Di Canio having lost the dressing room which I admit I gave some credence to. This performance and the reaction to the goals proves to me that they are just that - rumours, and nothing more.

Yes, we are a work in progress but we are definitely on the right track.

Oh yes, astonishing moment #5. Did Di Canio actually hug the fourth official after our third goal?  Yes, I've just re-watched it. He did indeed. The guy's nuts 8)

All in all that made for pretty pleasant viewing.

Swindon v Rotherham was the forth most watched program on Sky sports 2 according to BARB, with 202, 000 viewers. That's the 9th most watched program across all of Sky Sports for the week (excluding Sky Sports News).

That's not bad . By comparison WALES V MONTENEGRO on Friday night got 174, 000 viewers, soccer AM 155K.
