B and N key still don't work, taken keys off and cleaned contacts, blasted with compressed air, rubber bits feel ok. Any more ideas John?

Is there any "mess" between the contacts themselves on the matrix? actually inside the keyboard itself, they often get blocked with "mess" and dont form a full contact.

I've had the keys off themselves and cleaned contacts and hit em with compressed air. Space bar doesn't work either

Replacing a laptop screen is a piece of piss and takes me about 30 mins tops, even someone with little know how can do it easily in an hour with pretty much no problems.

The Tosh I have with the non working screen, has had a new one fitted not so long ago so I'm taking a chance on the inverter board jj?

It does sound like it mate, the invertors dont last forever, Si Pie just recently replaced his, not many pennies at all either, less than £15.

got the screen off, could my problem be the invertor, although the screen does light up white

Usually if the inverter is fucked there is nothing on the screen but the only real way of testing it is with replacement of known good parts.

I had to replace my screen in the end. Inverter only worked for so long so it was obviously never faulty.

Screen was £20 on ebay (2nd hand) but the Dell laptop of seven and a half years lives on.

It has to be said, I hate working on laptops, give me a desktop system anyday.

Have to say I agree wholeheartedly JJ, far too fiddley. Can handle a memory upgrade or replacement hdd, but that's about it

There's no fixing my memory I'm afraid Paul, sieve like

Just to explain, after all that changing screen inverter nonsense, turns out it was a bad 2gb stick of memory, discovered this when sticking the said 2gb stick in another lappie as a cheap upgrade for someone and the bastard thing wouldn't boot

Funnily enough JJ, it was bloody Samsung memory. Sent em mail to see if they'll RMA it, worth a try

Have you tried the memory in a different machine, I have had shed loads of compatibility problems between machines with different types of memory sticks working in some and not others, might be worth RMA ing them and replacing them with a different make mate.

The 1gb stick of Samsung in the Tosh was fine, now stuck that in someone else's. I will order 4gb from Crucial sometime this week JJ, and see if I get a reply from Samsung

after succsesfully replacing the screen on my samsung r60 plus laptop my daughter has decided to snap the dc jack connector, have found one on ebay £1.99, has online instructions on how to replace it, only problem is, it has to be soldered onto the board, have never soldered before, is this easy :hmmm:

Depends on how it is soldered to the board. My advice, find someone who has soldered before.

If you know how to solder its a 2 minute job, if you dont know how to solder then get someone else to do it.
