Title: Twitter
Post by: walrus on Sunday, March 20, 2011, 12:29:26
How do I find the players on Twitter?  I've tried searching but can't seem to find any?  Have they had all their accounts detailed following the Rose debacle?

Do none of the people you follow also follow them?

Here are a few. you can see who they follow to get some more:

@dougieno4 - obvious
@sheezdogg - Sheehan
@michaelrose3 - obvious
@alanobrien1985 - obvious

Ferry deleted his account. Haven't found his new one yet, assuming he has a new one.

I'll see if I cab dig out his username at some point - I won't really - but I intend too.

I'm determined not to abuse the players but with Rose putting up recent bollocks I may not be able to help myself.

What does this mean the Adver tweet?

Some bizarre accusations in tomorrow's papers regarding certain STFC staff. Sounds unlikely. Adver has story, read all about it

Pure guess. We are playing them next so it wouldn't be a surprise...

Greer has already said his part, in the summer before the opening day of the season.

He wanted to stay (Danny Wilson also wanted him to stay here) but Fitton wouldn't enter contract negotiations untill October.

I would be surprised if he has said anything else.

Wilson having a say on his departure? Then again, he's a proffesional bloke and I can't see him disrespecting anyone at the club.

If whatever it is they are printing is controversial then there is better times to be writing shit stirring stories thats for sure.

Hopefully Rose will be stupid enough to say something on twitter that can be seen as gross misconduct and sacked (like the Aldershot player).

Seriously, what's the beef with Rose? People seem to act like he's the anti-christ or something, but I just don't see it.

Yeah, he's not the best footballer ever, but we've had far worse.

Don't think it'll make a whole shed-load of difference in the grand scheme of things. Put it this way, assuming we do go down this season the Adver will be a long way back in the queue of people who need to hold their hands up

Just think he's asking for it the way he's carrying on. This should have been nipped in the bud a couple of weeks ago.

Dont mind him staying, but he needs to tow the line. This could be anyone abusing him, he's letting it get to him which is rediculous. The way he's carrying on either he's stupid or he wants out.

I know someone who was arrested twice that day, and released after 15 minutes both times! Those sort of things only happened pre Euro 2000.

After that I think we were a bit too lenient on young players for a while. Especially young Alan Young, who was young, and small, and rubbish.

Losing Commingues was a massive blow. Rediculous he went to a team and never played. Thats one of the things I hate most about modern football. Clubs hoarding squad players.

How can you be exactly mid-table in a 24 team league?  12th is top half, 13th bottom half.  They'd have to be 12.5th.

I like Twitter but it's a pretty pointless piece of modern technology.

The relationship between twitter and football has become massively studied recently... This is probably down to the fact that many journalists can no longer get genuine quotes from their subjects so when Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen or any footballer types something then it's magnified.

Fans use it as a tool to suck or abuse footballers... Footballers are used to it. If they choose to reply then so be it.

Not sure why clubs let players have a Twitter account TBH, little good can come out it when it allows players/fans to interact (insult) each other.

I see Rooney setup an account yesterday, that is trouble waiting to happen.

Reading various tweets it seems the player-fan bond has strangely improved of late. Douglas in particular has realised that if you engage with the fans you get a positive response.

Though part of me does wonder if this is just a bit of PR before he leaves - surely we can't afford to keep him in League 2.

Simon Ferry said it had nothing to do with Swindon fans.

Michael Rose to make an apology?

... and this is why Twitter is a pain in the football industry's backside.

He's following players likely to tweet silly things, so it might be genuine. Maybe an attempt to make sure he's aware of everything being said about the club from within and from outside?

I suppose the truth will out if/when some tweets are tweeted!

sorted them all out apart from Bamber whose form was so good it was easy to overlook his liking for a shandy. If we're going to have a Director of Football, Macari is the man. If the club are hellbent on Trollope then him and Macari could be the dream team.

Steve Foley was a borderline alcoholic, when I was stewarding at a game under Ardiles he turned up to the game drunk and told he wasnt going to be playing.

He was so obviously drunk, slurring his speech and falling over, he came out of the changing rooms and made his way to his car (which he drove to the ground drunk) before we managed to intercept him and take his car keys off him and ordered him a taxi home.

Oh, I read it as his ex had deliberately set up the fake account so she could slag him off and ran it as a genuine account until she had enough followers so she could "blow the lid" on the extraordinary revelation that footballers often feel little loyalty to clubs but may be more motivated by money. Who'da thunk it? But yeah, I guess she could be a fake faker.

I don't give a crap one way or t'other tbh so not sure why I bothered typing that.

Yeah, as far as I understand it, it is simply a most popular keyword match across regions. In other words, the things people are tweeting about most at the moment.

People use the # tag to add context across multiple people posting on the same subject. e.g If people use a common hash tag #SwindonTownFc for STFC , then it is possible to search for all tweets on swindon town FC by searching for #SwindonTownFc. Moreover if lots of people are tweeting about #SwindonTownFC it may trend. Though # tags are just convention and hold no more significance than any other word tweeted.

eh? No. Just look at what is trending if you want to see what is the most popular topics in tweets. You can look at it on a worldwide basis, or a UK basis, or whatever. There is an option to change scope.

e.g. "Charlie Adam" is trending in the UK at the moment. MOTD just showed Adam miss then score in two penalties. So lots of people probably tweeted on that. Now its trending. Simple!

Given that meetings today were supposed to be about seeing what the players were thinking in terms of next year, I wasn't expecting anything to be put on the table for anyone. They'll have wanted to chat to him about how he feels about League Two and Swindon, then they'll factor that into any decision they make. I wouldn't read too much into the fact Wray hasn't instantly extended the cnotract.

But equally they have to think of the L2 wage cap and the higher earners and how they fit into that structure and I'm sure Dougie is one of them

Title: Re: Twitter
Post by: nevillew on Monday, May 9, 2011, 15:45:22
Does anyone know how the wage cap operates ?  - is it based on this season ?, in which case it shouldn't be a problem, or if on projected next season, how anyone can be expected to get that right anyway ?

We'll have shipped out quite a lot in wages already, I'd imagine

I understand it to be based on the previous seasons earnings. not sure what our tunrover was but I would guess 60% of it is fairly high for the division we are going into.

my point exactly jj  (if you're correct)

Ours has to be higher than pretty much all the other teams in L2 I would have thought so we may have a little more leverage on wages than others in the same league.

And as you say the wages will already be much lower than this season as a lot of high earners will leave or have left...Dossevi, O'Brien and Sheehan etc.

It says in the article he refused to tell police who was driving. In which case it went to court where they can hand out heavier punishments than a fixed penalty notice and probably took into account previous offences too.

Alan Sheehan went on a trial, we really don't know the real ins and outs. The stuff people "tweet" him is amusing and over-the-top. Exploring your options is not a crime.

I for one don't think he'll be here next season and won't lose sleep if he isn't... But in fairness he's never said "I want to leave Swindon" Whereas Michael Rose did everything other than hire a plane to fly over the County Ground with a banner saying, "Scruuuw u guys, Im outta heeere!"

Obvious scam.

To be fair, I don't think anybody would disagree with his assessment of that tosser of an agent. Knight says he walks round PDCs office, talking as loud as he can into his mobile, name dropping. What a cliché. There's probably nobody on the other end!

I find this Twitter thing really difficult to follow. What I got from reading was that Knight was up for pre-season and felt he did well in the training sessions at Swindon. Knight then felt he was badly advised, the agent acted badly and Swindon got rid of Knight. Knight has then sacked the agent.

Is that right?

Knight has made big mistakes in the past. I don't think this time it's all his own making.

Course it is....ditch the agents, get of your fat arse and show a manager you are hungry to play football,of course it is his own making.
Its not law to have an agent is it.

I don't think PDC fancied him (for whatever reason).

Knight described the agent exactly how he comes across.

Nobody was there, nobody knows for sure I suppose.

I genuinely feel If it wasn't for the obvious support for Ferry from a high percentage of supporters Paolo would of already got shot of him, contract or no contract. PDC is still trying to make friends with as many people at the club as possible including fans. Can't see Ferry being with us much longer but Paolo might just wait until we get a couple of wins which will soften the departure of Simon and keep everyone on side. I hope he stays and think we need some flair in midfield but up to now Ferry has'nt been in Paolo's plans so can't see things changing in the near future.

It's been too long now since Ferry has held a regular starting place, we all see him having a joke and a laugh whilst warming up pre match but when it comes to the actual match Si always gives as much as anyone else, yes he has looked at times half a yard off the pace but to me it's a vicious circle. The only thing that makes and keeps you match fit is matches. Hope your right DV but just can't see Ferry being at his serious best without 1st team football.

On the footbal rumours site it suggests ferry is off to Dunfermline
With that site's track record it almost certainly means he will be going as far from the club mentioned as possible and so Bournemouth would probably be about right

But WHY???

He is a talented young lad. What has he done that has caused him to be ousted by 3 managers?

Do any of our board members have a sexy young daughter that he may have copped of with and the order to fuck about with his career come from above , maybe?

I prefer it to facebook now to be honest. Facebook is all a bit serious, and political. Besides which I swear Facebook owners have designs on controlling and spying on everyone.

As for brown nosing, I do like to 'Get behind the lads', and dish out a bit of praise where its due to the players. Which is not to be ashamed of as a supporter.

That wasn't the sort of brown nosing I was referring to. The following is an example of what sort of stuff from fans makes me cringe.

"Alright lad, buzzing for a trip to Nandos later. What do you order?"

It's football, not a Going Live/Live & Kicking phone-up Q&A!

A lot of twitter is completely shit. Celebs basically promoting shite.  But some of it is top notch, and Joey Barton falls into the latter.

What I don't get is middle aged people asking people for retweets all the time - get a fucking life.  I saw one bloke ask for one on a cancer related tweet today, because it was his birthday. What the hell is that all about.  Unless the guy had cancer I suppose and a retweet was a lifetime ambition, but he seemed healthy enough in his typing, more likely just a moron.

Mr Simon Ferry, to Jonathon Douglas
May I inquire as to how things are with you? All is well here. Circumstance reacquainted me with our mutual friend Andrew Frampton this past Tuesday eve. He was throwing around £50 notes amongst the spectators, but seemed much less joyous when I suggested a fracas in the tunnel.

Seriously ? a striker with no experience has acroed a couple for supermarine and who wouldn't fit into our current system, some people are cluthcing st straws surely.

None of the Samsung kiddies have ever got further then the bench, but it is probably good expereince for them being involed in the training etc with a L1 club

6 goals in 10 games isn't bad but hes nowhere near good enough for the first team yet, he would be better off staying there and getting games under his belt.

I have to say, Darren is a really good mate of mine.

Most of what he says on Twitter is a wind up, or a fishing trip/banter... it's a bit harsh to get personal about someone when you don't know them. Can we really judge someone by their Twitter personality?

Each to their own, I guess.
Well he judged me by my occupation so... :D

Leon Knight trolling Shame Moseley. I would fucking love to be a fly on the wall if/when Moseley turns up on Knight's doorstep.

This officialpaddystavros fella on twitter actually may well be an even bigger tool than Galbriath.  It's close though.

Yep, I have responded to a couple of his statements before, until I realised that he was a massive tool that just wants and argument.  He thinks his opinion is the only one that matters and gets all trollish if you disagree with him...  Comes across like a member of Britain First...

He's very argumentative, I don't quite get why people are like that.

Nathan Thompson on Twitter today asking for people to post leaflets in the SN1 area.

Apparently there will be a bonus for any leads.

Setting up a dogwalking business?

Could be a winner, apparently people don't walk their muts when it's wet, so they go a bit stir crazy, which may account for the 7000+ admissions to A and E for dog bites annually.
