Title: Cheltenham Festival 2011
Post by: DMR on Thursday, March 3, 2011, 16:06:23
Just a week and a smidgen to go, I'm so excited I might ejaculate just thinking about it. Anyone fancy the usual tipping competition, I'll put it all together if you all like.

Anyone got any strong fancies yet?

By the way, Skybet, 11/4 for Paul Nicholls to have 3 or more winners at the Festival, if thats not bet of the century I dont know what is.

Need Cue Card to get us off to a flyer this time rather than Dunguib crippling me before it even gets going! Will have it in a forecast with whichever of the 2 Henderson horses Geraghty rides.

I usually stick a few bets on during Cheltenham and do nicely most times :)

Only one bet on so far, Kauto Star at 12/1 for Gold Cup which I couldn't pass up for that price.

i fancy long run for the gold cup.
imperial commander could take it again though.
kauto star has had it imo.

diamond harry for a good price e/w punt.

Can't have LR myself arriba, I think form at the track is massive and he doesn't have it. If you believe KS is finished then that rather detracts from the form of the King George race anyway?

I atually think the Gold Cup is quite a poor renewal, cant see anything getting in amongst the first 3 from the newbies. Denman e/w for me, fresh and always runs his race at Cheltenham.

Not really looked at the races yet but I'll be up for a few Oevils.
Like the sound of 11/4 for Nicholls 3 winners.

I'm up for a bit of friendly competition, so count me in please.

I am lucky enough to have Club tickets for all four days and I cannot fucking wait, although my missus is moaning and whinging about me being so fucking excited, she reckons I am acting like a toddler in the run up to Christmas.

I would say I acted like that all the time love, let alone during the build up to the best week of the fucking year.

Knight Pass for the Bumper and Medermit for the Arkle.

I recall being rather drunk a few years back at the Queens hotel and managed to get a "queen Carry" all the way back to my house at the time as my feet were hurting so much!

In all fairness being made to down guiness and jamesons after a night of champers was always going to be messy!

20/1 to 8/1 in just a few hours. I only heard it mentioned twice during the race, that was at the start and the finish.

Binocular out after "testing positive"??  WTF!

Makes sense if you read the full article on the RP website.

Pretty good news to me, was the only one I could see giving Menorah (my nap) a race, and makes my 11/2 look tasty.

The fact PC connections spent the rest of the season after Newbury avoiding Binocular says it all for me - they knew they wouldnt have the beating of him after his prep run and don't think he's quick enough to win over 2m at Cheltenham myself

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival 2011
Post by: Arriba on Sunday, March 13, 2011, 17:30:21
dunno if they avoided binocular personally.supposedly missed some meetings due to a cough.
did beat binocular in november though, and has won every race it has run in.
my nap for the week is big bucks, but not great value really.i'll look for a decent e/w shot in that race.

what else do you fancy steptoe?

Loads.

Medermit in the Arkle, Knight Pass in the Bumper, Bobs Worth in the Neptune Hurdle, Habbie Simpson in the Albert Bartlett, Somersby in the QM and either Grand Crus or Mourad in the World Hurdle to name but a few.

I can't wait!!

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival 2011

Couldn't have Somersby in the CC unless the ground somehow turned bottomless, especially as Choc is so much weaker in the finish these days since his injury.

Good each way bet at 8/1 and he ran MM very close at Ascot last time out. Apart from Ruby Walsh, I don't think anybody rides Cheltenham better than Choc.

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival 2011

I still reckon he needs shocking ground, and hasn't AP already admitted he gave MM a shocker at Ascot? Just hope I'm not eating my words come Weds night, but I'm firmly in the lay Somersby at all costs brigade!

i wonder what peoples thoughts are on 'overturn' e/w in the champ hurdle?
finished 2nd to binocular recently. at 40/1 i might have a small e/w punt on it.

I won a £50 free bet on ladbrokes for cheltenham only so I've decided to put it on quevega £25 each way. I don't know anything about horse racing really so I just went for one that looked like a decent favourite. I also put a couple of quid on sparky way just in case that one loses. I might just put £1 on the whole field.

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival 2011

quevega is odds on so e/w is a waste of time

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival 2011
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 16:25:42
Is that just because I get back less than my stake if he wins or is it only likely to finish second or not place? I'm not too bothered about getting less than £50 because I can't withdraw the £50 anyway - I just want to at least get something back.

I backed Sizing Europe each way at 8/1. However Victor Chandler has given me back the winnings like if I placed the bet at 10/1?? I've been betting for a few years (although not a lot) is there a simple explanation why this has happened? I'm a bit puzzled!!

Did they pay a higher fraction for the "placed" pat of the bet? Or was it definitely x% of 10/1? Did they have any 'specials' on? Did you accidentally take SP?

alot of bookmakers are paying the higher price if it goes up after you've made your bet.

Im going on Friday with 3 mates, none of us have tickets. Firstly, are there many touts selling tickets this year? Secondly, which area should i buy for? The last time i went i was in The Tattershalls, right on the finish line, it was a great day. Are there better places to go?

Backed Sizing Europe with my £1 free bet through the Sun at 10/1. I know it's small stakes but I am well chuffed considering how poor I am  :D

FAO Batch, arriba.

No I didn't take sp. I think your right arriba, maybe VC are one of the ones which are giving out the higher price.

I'm not complaining, but it was confusing, when I went to check I was expecting £84 but I got £101.50!

Loads of touts buying and selling tickets, although on Friday you will probably have to pay through the fucking nose for them. If you can get club tickets you will have access to the parade ring, centre of the course and the Guinness village etc... Expensive but well worth it.

Failing this, Tatts is fine for drinking and betting although I would'nt bother with the Best Mate Enclosure.

Just back from day 2, and I can recommend a 4 day diet of Guinness and Racing to anybody!

2 more days to go and still going strong. Happy Days!!

VC are paying out the higher of the early price and starting price - it's in their promotions page.

I think i will just go for the Tatts again. I have been told before that best mate is not worth it, why is that?

Enjoy the next 2 days matey and good luck.

Best Mate enclosure is full of Pikey Chav Cunts. The view is shit as well as you are so far away from any real action.

Friday will be fucking awesome, enjoy it.

As well as the pikeys there will also be millions of decent people in the Cabbage Patch....but it does have the feel that the real party is somewhere else....which is true.  The view however has improved massively since they've stuck that new stand in there.  I wouldn't pooh pooh Best Mate, although I'll be back in Tatts for St Pats tomorrow for a day as great as today.

More than anything, Cheltenham is a place to be yourself.  Pikey twat, stuck up twat or in betweeen twat: enjoy.

Had a good win bet on Noble Prince at 9/2 and Mourad E/W at 10's. That puts me up for the week, so I can now have a good bet tomorrow and not worry about losing.

What does everybody fancy for the Gold Cup?

so folks, how manyof you made money this week, who lost their dosh, and who broke just about even?

me.i signed up with a few bookies, so although slightly down for the week,it wasn't all my own money.
clawed a nice bit back today and have plenty in my accounts again.
reckon overall i'm about 30% down over the 4 days.

£80 down for the whole week, which for four days at the festival is great value!

Would have been slightly up, but had a bad day today. That's if you can call a day at the races drinking, punting and watching the best horses in training bad.

What a fantastic week!!! Roll on next year..

Fist day was dire, 2nd day was good, 3rd day was brilliant and yesterday was even better. £210 up on the whole 4 days. The big punt on Final Approach at 12/1 paid off.

I was well up before i actually went to the course yesterday. Started the day off well with Zarkander but went rapidly downhill after that. If only Denman could of had a bit more in him at the end, that would of paid up nicely.

Never mind, was a great day
