So being a bit thick with Ipods, does this mean it actually transfers without losing them? Reason i ask is my laptop died, quickly followed by my backup external drive, so the only place my legal and Ahem not so legal songs exist is on my ipod, and I'm a bit releuctant to connect it back up to my new laptop in case it all goes tits up and I've only got 4 songs left. Cheers in advance.

No they will stay on the iPod as well Sutton. I'm sure others on here will know the tech behind it but it just lets you copy and paste your songs, playlists etc off the ipod onto your hard drive.

Cheers that's what I was hoping was the answer.

Is there no life at all in the drives in your lappie or external sutton?

Anyone know if its possible to transfer spotify songs - offline downloads - to itunes and my old bog standard ipod? Looking for a way to get free music (except for the tenner a month for spotify premium), without resorting to limewire and the computer raping that ensues...

No, even tried the old sticking in the fridge for 24 hours which has worked for me before, dead as a dodo. I've got most backed up again to DVD so it's only time it'll cost me really.

I used a piece of software which I can't remember the name of.

But it worked, and was easy enough so it CAN be done.

Thanks STFC in B - I understand what to do, it's just that I get the impression from reading all the stuff about it that it would replace itunes as my default library/player in my pc, and not sure I want that.
I shall also be terrified when I plug my ipod in to the pc that somehow I will wipe it clean (over 5000 tunes) and be left with nothing!!  :D

You have it installed as well as itunes. It's not a player just a means of backing up and copying music to the ipod quickly rather than the long winded pfaffing around associated with itunes. JJ will sort you out anyhow. However if you have iTunes already installed go to Edit-Preferences-Devices and tick Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically(do this before connecting ipod) then you shouldn't lose a thing
