Excellent, I was concerned we'd have to wait a year or something to get it over here. Absolutely love the books. Judging by the two trailers they seem to be staying true to the books aswell, recognised so many of those scenes as they were in the books.

It will be incredible. Most of the scenes in the trailers look like they've been lifted shot for shot from the books. If you read them you'll see what I mean, me and my mate both remarked that it was like looking over storyboards for a TV show...

Post by: Benzel on Sunday, November 28, 2010, 21:01:28
Yeah it's been very good so far. There's only 2 episodes left... I dunno if it's a break in series, or end of series, but in the last show <MINOR SPOILER> they alluded to a possible cure in the reel for next weeks episode.

Hopefully they'll just get their hopes up before someone else is ruthlessly picked off and the series is left on a cliff hanger... Because there is so much more that can be done!

There's only 6 episodes in the first season, think they're being shown here about the same time as in the US.

Another 13 episodes coming next year.

Just been getting on this. Got through the first three last night. Cracking stuff.

I'm sure there's hundreds of little references in it that I don't get, I'm not as good on my zombie films as I should be, but I'm a sucker for the Triffid style waking up in a hospital opener so I was sold pretty quick.

Definitely the most promising new tv series I've seen since Sherlock, but if it hadn't been for that we'd be going back much further.

Although I'm reminded now why I often wait several series before getting into shows. How fucking long am I going to have to wait for series 2 once I've finished burning through the rest of the series this afternoon? (May have been mentioned in the thread already but I'm weary of looking back because of potential spoilers )

Wikipedia says they're starting the writing process early next year with an October 2011 air date expected.

it links here as the source http://insidetv.ew.com/2010/12/03/walking-dead-darabont-hurd-writers/ but I haven't had a chance to read because the apprentice is starting.

Its an AMC show and as far as I know it'll start next September/October when most new season TV starts in the US. They're still writing it too, not filming as there were rumours that Frank Darabont fired the whole writing staff.

24 for me.

You saw the "ending" yeah? You saw "all your questions answered"? Lost was superb until they writers realised they couldn't answer any of the questions they'd created and finished it by saying, "Yeah, we made it all up to make good money from Advertisements. There never was a story, just loads of disparate elements and no conclusion worth waiting for." I only wish I'd never wasted a second on that shit. :D

X-Files. No question.

24 was OK, just far too long and drawn out.
Watched season one of The Walking Dead, and thought it was a bit shit to be honest.

Too many American TV series to come up with one.

How do you compare The Red Hand Gang, A-Team, Knight Rider, Frasier, South Park, Simpsons, Star Trek, etc etc and come up with one answer.

Lost was too long and confusing at times. I thought Alias was the best thing JJ Abrams did, even though I am enjoying Fringe.

Yeah i agree with you slightly on the fact they did not answer all the questions, however as far as i was concerned they answered enough.
However the ending was a bit shit i have to say but it kinda worked.
For me, i just loved the concept of the show, and i could sit through and  watch it all again no probs.

As for other American shows none really interest me that much, certainly not to the levels Lost had me hooked.

So the 2nd series has reached the mid season break. Any of you been watching?

It's been slow in places but it's definitely one of the best dramas on TV at the moment.

Glad that the Sofia story arc has been concluded as that has been going on since ep 1. Shame has become a crazed individual but perhaps also the most realistic. He's done a couple of nasty things but if he hadn't then Carl would have probably died.

It'll be interesting to see where they head now seeing as I doubt they'll be staying at the farm any longer. If it's anything like the books I have a good idea of what's up next but with Shane still being in the show perhaps they'll take things in a slightly different direction.

Anyway, hurry the fuck up February.

Conversely I've found it largely as dull as ditch-water (or is that dishwater).

The slow pace has been too slow for me. I completely understand that all on action every week is going to be equally boring and short lived. But I've found I largely don't care about the characters.

This has a knock on effect. Instead of thinking "oh no will Rick's son live" for three episodes, I'm hoping he'll hurray up and die so we can move on. Same with missing kid. God I can't even remember their names.

Its not like I don't like characterisations in general. Take the Battlestar Galactica remake. Now that had a good amount of action but also a superb amount of character development too. At times it was pure drama that happened to be set in space. And it worked, although I admit it went downhill a bit towards a rubbish ending. But that is how to make some of the finest TV around.

What  we have with Walking Dead is the zombie equivalent of neighbours. In fact the parts I really enjoyed were SPOILERS, tried to disguise (highlight to reveal):

1.  Shane Shhoting Otis
2.  The Well scene
3.  Shane challenging Rick's authority, then Rick shooting girlie zombie right at the end.

So I hope they leave the farm soon and get focused on survival/cure/some other long term goal.

I think the reason why there's been such a huge lull in WD is because they've already got series 3 in the pipeline and so much source material beyond that as well. Although I do get the impression the 2nd half is going to pick up the pace a bit. Watch out for 'The Governor'...

I like the fact that they're now conserving bullets and using the knives more.  Bound to end a bit bitey for someone.

I'm enjopying it again since the mid season break. Only up to ep 11, I won't say what happened but thank goodness for that ending :)

Is that a good "good lord" or a bad "good lord" benzel?

I'm starting to lose patience with this to be honest. To say they're milking it for all it's worth is an understatement, I wish they'd just get on with it. It's as slow as Lost. Almost.

12 and 13. Good lord.

How have you seen 13?  13's the last in the series, right?

12 was good and you can tell from the adverts for the last one that it's going to be immense.  One thing that's keeping me interested is knowing that however they finish this show it sure as hell isn't going to have a happy-ending.

Ooops, got my numbers mixed up. Thought there were 14 episodes!

Will probably crack and watch the last one online after work today. Looks like we're in for a hell of a finish. I think Lori is gonna snuff it, just to make things that little bit worse for Rick.

Rick, Carl, Daryl, Glen, Hershal, Andrea will survive imo, maybe a couple of others but most of them are going to get killed.

Looks better than S2.  1 was great, in the city etc. but 2 was boring for the majority of the series IMO.  Getting back to civilisation for S3 could pick it back up again.

Finding myself agreeing with the majority - series 2 was slow, and definitely lacked the punch and excitement of series 1. I read the books ages ago but don't remember most of what I've seen in the series, only really remember the prison so am going to have to find a way to re-read them.

It all goes fucking mental in the books after the prison. The end of the prison was brutal too.

Meh, if you're happy to wait that's your perogative. But I've known people to whinge about the delay between American and British Air dates, when they can be watching the show online in less than 5 minutes.
