Title: Swindon V Plymouth Argyle Official Matchday Thread.
Post by: herthab on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 06:45:29
Will Fallon be making a return to The CG?

Will Peter Reid be told he has a 'Monkey's Head' by the Townend?

Will Douglas ever score?

So many questions....

I actually thought JD  was going to score when he lined up that shot saturday. The back of the bank proved how wrong I was in that assumption. So no, yes, no in that order.

Fallon's out injured. Should be a good game this, one of my friends at work is a Plymouth fan so a win would be very much appreciated!

I'm missing this game, so hope it's a really dull 90 minutes, with a scrappy 1-0 for us.

Think it might be a draw though.

I cant go to this either as im back at work. I will be able to catch the 2nd half on stfcworld tho and would love to hear the crowd backing the boys like they did on Saturday. The atmosphere was fantastic at the weekend and the players showed their appreciation for it at the end of the game by 1, scoring a peach of a last minute header and 2, coming over and clapping the Town end and DRS.

A louder ground will intimidate opponents, spur on our boys and potentially attract more home fans as everyone likes a party  :beers:

3-1 STFC

Interesting that Monkey Heid is saying that his wingers should exploit our formation. Wonder whether DW might tweak the formation a little bit although I have no idea if Plymouth's wingers are any good or not.

3-1 home victory. 7,288 crowd.

I think it'll be a tight game. I reckon we'll edge it 2-1. We usually do well in Tuesday night games under the floodlights.

I wondered this prior to our game against Huddersfield, who have far superior wingers to Plymouth. After 10 minutes it was clear our team could cope so I expect more of the same tonight.

3-1 Swindon.

If they try to exploit the wings it could play into our hands. They'll need get it wide quickly, or the midfield 3 just move across. We'll be 4 on 2 in the middle, and should control it.

If I had a concern, it'd be Wright-Phillips' pace, but confident we can keep them out and notch another win.

I think the interesting point here is that Reid has gone so public with his thoughts.  He hasn't done this to do us a favour...he's clearly out to influence the way we play.  Perhaps he's worried enough about our formation that he hopes that by criticising it, DW will change it?  Mind games for sure.

When Wright-Phillips played against Town reserves a month ago, he didn't get a look in with the centre half partership for Town of Morrison and Evans.

Morrison got the better of him then, and he'll repeat it tonight.

After Saturday I am really excited about tonight's game.  A Tuesday night under the lights at the County Ground is magic and hopefully the atmosphere will be magical too.

I want to see some marauding run from King Kev, bone crunching tackling from Dougie, crossfield balls from Sheehan and bloody McGovern, strong holding off by Oh Ar Pericard and some bustling runs from Dossevi to make me do the pogo.

Danny Wilson is certainly having a party and I might even don the Castrol.

Swindon 3-1 Plymouth for me with a 7,832 attendance.

Confidence should be high after Saturday and i'm hoping for a similar performance, we will need to show the same commitment and desire because I think Plymouth will make it hard for us, could be a bit of a battle.

Having a quick read of their forums some of their fans think they will turn us over and some think they will get battered as they have been quite inconsistent so far. Certainly looks like quite a few of them are making the trip so should be a decent crowd and a good atmosphere tonight.

I'll go 2-1 town with a crowd of around 8,500 (1,000 from Plymouth). Goals could come from anywhere!

4-0, Cuthbert and Pericard hat-trick....  If we win tonight the early season stutters are forgiven and we can all start dreaming again.  Was tempted by tonight as I've pulled a sickie today as I'm working my notice, but my girlfriend promised me my birthday present early (an Xbox 360 and F1 2011).  Sadly, we had a barney and now she won't buy it.  And it's too late to leave for the football.  On the plus side, she has fallen asleep so I can watch SSN.

Fffffffffffff. Can't be fucking lieve it. Absolutely mugged. Prutton played well but diving in right in front of the ref while on a yellow was fucking moronic and I'm pissed off that people clapped him off.  Good player but a liability we can't afford. Our formation was all wrong today, too narrow and they played it to the flanks with great effect.

Caddis deserved man of the match, the only player to really do anything going forward. Maybe Manks as well.

At least the scouts won't have too much to report back on regarding Morrison.

Title: Re: Swindon V Plymouth Argyle Official Matchday Thread.
Post by: Dozno9 on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 21:14:22
We struggled with their pace all game.

Their defence was big and were all over Vince and Dossevi, we need to be Austin + one of those. Caddis looked good and deserved MoM although I couldn't work out his position at times but that's probably me.

Absolute clanger for their 1st but it is suprising that he felt he needed to come 12 yards to get the ball but then he was the only one anywhere near the ball at the time.

O'Brien looked lost when he came on, I'm sure he'd be better with an earpiece in with someone telling him where he needs to run to.

Rose was good and excellent free kick.

What a crazy game of football. For the first 10-15 minutes I have no idea what we were doing. Lucas should never have come for the first, big mistake that. The second goal JP got unlucky and it deflected back to their player who put in a decent ball. Quite why no one picks up BWP is anyones guess but it's poor marking and the easiest goal for a 2-0 lead. Oh dear. Then we slowly came back into it. Got some passing going, Caddis caused them problems down the wing. Then Prutton came up with a great finish and we were back in it. I thought at HT we had a good chance but in the 2nd half we didn't start with a great tempo. We have the ball away too much. We struggled to really get at them as i'd hoped. Then we began to win a few free kicks and Rose slots in a beauty (Rose was actually pretty decent when he came on I thought tonight). After that I was beginning to think we may actually crack on for a 3rd but Prutton (on a yellow) made a clumsy challenege and not one you'd expect from someone of such experience. 2nd booking and off he goes. Even with 10 we still looked more likely to score. Then at 10 v 10 there was only going to be one winner or so it seemed. Gave away the ball out wide, the put a cross in and then, well that was that. Remarkably similar to the 03/04 game here at against Plymouth.

Tactics didn't work today. Too much hoof ball at times against 2 big CBs? confused by that one. Plymouth went wide which is not what Huddersfield and Saints didn't The diamond was leaving us exposed. Changing to a flat 4-4-2 should have worked in theory but we didn't get it wide often enough and O'Brien barely used his pace or made decent runs. First time I noticed that we really missed Austin tonight. A loan striker wouldn't go amiss. I don't think Dossevi is going to score many and Pericard up top on his own might not work. Dissapointing and a funny game of football.

Fucked off.

Lucas cost - made some good saves after but cost us.

Prutton the same. Played well but ultimately cost us.

Rose was probably our best player

Pericard and Dossevi need staying onside and shooting practise. Charlie Austin scores twice tonight.

Fans, dickheads with short memories. 2-0 and you fucked it up. That's just asking for trouble. De Ja Vu.

Just back...great match,a credit to lge1.
Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the better team won.
Caddis is starting to bloom and though Rose was shaky at the back his was a good goal.
Prutton has got to sort his tackling out....played well and to be honest the first yellow he got was a bit soft.
The only thing missing for me is pace up front.
A good game......my view is we were a tad unlucky not to grab a point and we will play worse and win matches.

just got back and to be fair we was lucky to get back to 2-2 we played awful. pericard was useless and there was no flow to our game just hoof hoof hoof hoof

we never deserved a point and that showed in the last minute

plymouth could have won 5-2 if not for there poor heading.

rose is clueless and looks like hes waiting for someone to tell him who to pass to, AOB made a few runs only for rose to ignore him and pass back.

must improve on saturday and im glad ferry will be starting the next few games.

oh and the ref was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite there 2 centre halfs were all over preicard and dossevi and got away with it everytime but when pericard back in an inch its a foul!!!

you reds  :(

Quick synopsis...

Lucas fuck up for their first
Great cross which meant tap in for BWP
Great goal scored from 25 yards from Prutton
Pericard misses sitter with goal at mercy
Half time

Point blank save by Plymuff keeper to stop OG
Dossevi misses header from 10 yards
N'Gala lucky top stay on field after being last man after felling Caddis..gets booked
Rose scored from resulting free-kick...2-2
Prutton goes for two bookables after wild challenge despite winning ball
Johnson lucky to stay on field after verballing the lino after free-kick awarded in corner
Johnson gets sent off for 2 yellows in last minute...refuses to go
Town nearly snatch winner...but Plymuff break....and we know what happened next...

You win some, you lose some.

Yes a lot of hoof ball, not a lot of support. Expectations had risen after sat, today was back to reality. Caddis my man of the match. People around me in the DRS annoy me. Instead of getting on the players backs, why not support them. Encorouragement is better than a slagging off.

Plymouth were a hell of a lot better than Udders and Saints. They definately had some decent players, and will be up come the end of the season. Like us.

Gutted is the only word really. It wasnt a great performance like saturday but when you find yourselves 2 down after 8 minutes the game plan goes out of the window and we did well to drag ourselves back into it. Either side could have won it and the end and unfortunately it wasnt us.

Some positives to take out of the game, rose did well, if he can carry on like that we wont miss sheehan too much. Caddis was excellent, i like his directness and he drove us forward. Also thought Cuthbert was immense at the back.

Now the negatives, firstly no matter how hard they work neither Pericard or Dossevi will ever be a regular goalscorer, the instinct just isnt there. The sooner we get Austin back the better.

Too much long ball, yes we were chasing the game but we were at our most effective on the few occasions we kept it on the ground. Plymouths centre backs were dodgy but they were both massive so dealt with much of what we threw at them.

Saving the worst till last, what the fuck was O'brien on? Wandered around the pitch like he didnt want to be out there and contributed absolutely nothing to the game. I dont mind if you are shit as long as you give 100%, but that was a disgraceful performance. I would be happy if he never put on a town shirt again after that.

Entertaining game, but poor result. Fucking fuming with that.

Defensive mistakes cost us, and from an unlikely source - Lucas. No man's land for the first, and both he and the defenders could've kept out the second. Did attempt to save face with a cracking save from Noone right after though.

Dominated the last 15 minutes of the first half, and probably shaded the second. Prutton's goal was good, and coming before half time got us right back in it.

Disappointed to see Sheehan go off, but Rose was impressive when he came on. Cracking free-kick! Caddis well deserved MOTM. Dossevi needs to learn to stay onside, and Pericard to needs to be a little more mobile. Bloody loved the feeling of getting it back to 2-2.

Prutton, despite his eye for goal, is a liability. Absolutely stupid tackle right in front of the ref, now out for two games i guess? O'brien absolute wank when he came on, whats the point in an impact substitute not making an impact?

Plymouth were decent opposition, and their league position perhaps disguises this. Doesn't disguise the fact that we were tactically poor today, yet still could've won it.

Back to the traditional 4-4-2 on saturday please, disppointing today yes, but not the end of the world.

IOB has pretty much called the game as I saw it.  The first goal was a complete cock up by Lucas and we didn't really settle down from that before conceding the second.  Did really well to draw back level and quite honestly had enough chances to have won it and probably would had Prutton not got sent off.  Stupid challenge right in front of the referee as well.

Caddis had a good game and Rose played the best I've seen him.  Pericard was back to his normal self - completely useless and unfortunately Dossevi wasn't much better.  They've both had chances they should have put away, how Pericard managed to miss before half time is beyond me.  IMO we need to go out into the loan market to bring in higher quality cover for Charlie.

Bringing O'Brien on was completely pointless, every time he got the ball he looked scared stiff and gave it away and surprisingly Ferry wasn't a great deal better.

All in all massively disaapointing after such a good display on saturday and we've certainly come back to earth with a bump.  The other crap things to point out are Plymouth really weren't that good but managed to score 3 goals past us, we still can't win a game after going behind (does anyone know when the last time we did that was?) and Brighton gayboys are top!

Did well to get back to 2-2, just listened to DW on radio and cannot believe what I heard.  He thought we were unlucky, I thought at times we were crap.  Decision making was poor, struggled to pass the ball but overall I thought we didn't cope with their physical in-your-face tactics - very similar to Millwall at Wembley.  Not going to pick anybody out as a scapegoat, but I did think AOB was terrible when he came on, seemed indecisive and didn't provide the spark that was needed at the time.

i agree he definatly isnt a striker i think he would play well in JPM's position at the top of the diamond to give him abit more space to work with.

Agreed....the side foot into the empty net that he put wide before half time was pants........though he was very unlucky not to score just after the break when it hit the goalies leg and spun out.
The amount of half chances in the box that went begging.........Austin would have had a field day.

Please someone explain to me how O'Brien is a footballer? He made no impact whatsoever, was puffing after 20 minutes and only used his pace to get back after giving the ball away in the first place. We might as well have Usain fucking Bolt on the left wing. Seems he's more up for his Saturday nights out than trying to break into the side.

Dossevi should be used as an impact sub rather than a starter (I realise we have no other option at this time), needs to learn the offside rule.

Rose our best player when he came on. Should have won MOM.

Caddis decent, Prutton continued to improve but his poor decision making in regards to challenges will cost us points. Though the first yellow was harsh I thought.

Lucas nervy. JPM anonymous.

Disappointing set back after a brilliant run of results. Need to put it right on Saturday.

Exactly and that's the precise point, a half decent (notice the term half decent not good!) forward would have scored from some of those chances.  Both Dossevi and Pericard spent more time being called offside that doing anything worthwhile.  I was starting to warm to Pericard slightly, but tonight's performance was downright lazy.

Did it come off Pericard when the goalie saved with his legs, we thought it came off the defender?

What a frustrating night. I dont get how people can say it was a good game, I didn't find it entertaining in the slightest. Horrendous start, and then we done well to break them down and get back into it before throwing it all away. A couple of thoughts:

Pericard was absolute gash. Lazy, clumsy and unintelligent. Wilson took the wrong CF off. Dossevi might not be able to hit a barn door but at least he is mobile, works, jumps and (sometimes) gets onside. Still think when everyong is fit and we're playing the diamond I'd have Austin and a loanee up front and Dossevi in the JPM role.

Prutton may have played well but was fucking stupid for getting sent off and I think that's ultimately cost us at least a point. Was just starting to impress, but has fucked it all up again, and the red came at the worst possible time, killing all momentum. Dont get why anyone would applaud him off.

AOB is the winner of the worst sub appearance in living memory award. Truley abysmal.

What the fuck was Kev doing in their half in the 95th minute. 2-2, back in the game, as a right back he should have just sat in, instead he's no where to be seen when the cross comes in.

Johnsons second yellow was unbeliveably harsh (if it was for handball, which i presume it was) and the ref was terrible for both sides.

There are the obvious errors, but so much was wrong with tonight, and it seemed like the last five games didn't really happen. The real concern now is the squad depth, especially with Caddis and Dossevi going on international duty in a couple of weeks (could we call the game off?). Only Billy Bodin an attacking option, and now no senior CM on the bench for a couple of games.

Overall we scored twice at home, should be more than enough to win a game, but horrendoues mistakes have cost us.

We've now got a run of winnable fixtures. Daggers, Rovers, Orient and Yeovil, with Posh away a massive challenge in their too. We need to get right back in the groove.

Post by: Batch on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 21:39:51
Here is a Batch eye view:

First half we started brightly until Lucas flapped at the cross and the ball ended up in the net. From that point on whilst they may not have had the lions share of possession Plymouth looked dangerous every time they broke forward with pace. 1-0 became 2-0 and nearly became 3-0 as (was it) Wright-Phillips broke free and in on goal and IMHO Morrison was lucky not to concede a penalty. That said Prutton got a shove in the back in the Plymouth box moments earlier so it evened out.

Slowly we got back into the game with Plymouth still looking dangerous with their pacey breaks. Out first goal came out of nothing when Prutton drove a low shot from 25 yards out that skidden on the turf and beat the keeper. We should have gone in 2-2 but Dossevi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, big Vince laying it on a plate from a deflected Amankwha cross. This wasn't our only chance either, Dossevi raced clear and somehow didn't get the shot in  the net and Pericard put the deflection/save/whatever hopelessly wide.

Second half we tightened up a little in that we didn't allow Plymouth to come at us with their pacey attacks. They still created some good chances, and on another day could have scored 4 or 5. But so could we. Rose blasted in the free kick t make it 2-2, and after Prutton (idiot) saw red we went on the back foot. The Plymouth red was the signal to go for it, but intent on capping off a really crap defensive Swindon display we (Amankwha) got caught in no mans land leaving Caddis with 2 men and an excellent cross and header made it 2-3.

In summary both teams showed promise going forward, both were crap at defending and the scoreline could have been 5-4, or 4-6 or 9-7, you get the idea.

We settled for 2-2 when goin down to 10 then went for it when they lost a man..not many teams playin at home would've done anything different...pleased for rose for starters...two gripes...firstly how many free kicks do we have around the halfway line only to lump it aimlessly into the box...set pieces are the easiest thing to work on...secondly sometimes we need to use our nous a bit and foul players and take a yellow for the team in the dying seconds

AM :  Good Morning Anthony Marshall !

PR :  Hi Anthony, Peter Reid here, just to let you know that I think we can beat your lot by exploiting the flanks because you do seem to be playing quite narrow at the moment.

Noone tore us a new arsehole (again).

Someone needs to teach Dossevi the offside rule. He could also do with some shooting practice.

Silly sending off from Prutton, but at least he put some challenges in.

McGovern was deservedly subbed IMO. Made no impact and was wasted out on the left. Probably more to do with tactics than anything.

Disappointed we didn't try and exploit their CBs a bit more after they'd both been booked. They couldn't cope with balls in behind and were just hoofing in to touch, but we never took advantage of this.

Morrison was as dogshit tonight as he was good on Saturday. If it wasn't for Cuthbert at the back it could have been a load more. He was my MOM by a mile. Their no 17 was superb. Defensively we were fucking atrociuos bar Cuthbert.
Prutton must win the stpid cunt of the year award for his sending off. He's starting to win over the fans and we're starting to get some momentum going in the game and the brainless twat gets a very justified second yellow.
As stated already O'Brien has to be competing for the must fucking useless substition since Stabber Ashikodi. I thuoght it was a good decision to bring him on but he was totally fucking lost.
Thier 3rd goal was a gem of a cross and a bloody good header.
Great free kick from Rose but again defensively he's crap.
All in all a bad night. A good crowd thuogh and fair play to Argyle who looked to have over the thousand.

Terrible mistake by Lucas for the first goal, but he made up for it with a couple of excellent saves later on.

Cuthbert and Morrison were poor, looked off the pace and a liability every time a long ball was played. Thought we were completely fucked when Rose came on but he had an excellent game, looked a different player. Caddis was excellent and probably shaded the man of the match.

Prutton had an excellent game as well, but he started getting stuck in a bit too much. Whilst the cards were maybe a bit harsh they were always coming and it was just a matter of time before he saw red. Don't see any point in people bitching about it or saying he should calm down as we all knew what he was like when he signed.

Pericard and Dossevi were both poor, they had a good few decent chances between them and should have done better.

Not too pissed off though as I found the game entertaining, though it's always a bitch to lose to a last minute goal. Think the better team on the night won and a draw would have been a little bit harsh on them. Not sure the tactics had anything to do with anything, the first two goals certainly didn't and I didn't see it making that much difference prior to us switching to a flat midfield.

Amankawwah- Shit
Cuthbert-poor
Morrison-poor
Pericard -shit
Dossevi-shit(yet to understand all the hype)
McGovern-back to his 2009 performances this season

And best of all Andy o fucking brien, typifies everything wrong with football today because if he had no pace he would not be playing conference even. Rose played well though which is good because as soon as sheehan is fit he will no doubt get dropped(sarcasm). We been on a good run so can't be too downhearted but that was fucking awful tonight imo.

Tactics wrong after 10 mins should of been changed. We had 6 long throws in the first half yet none of our centre backs went up until the 40th min

pericard and dossevi will not score 5 goals between them we need to get a goal scorer on loan. Caddis was much better tonight and rose looked a different player were the two positives. My night was made worst as I was in the members suite and had the nightmare of a group of Plymouth fans sat next to me in the Arkells who went fucking beserk when the winner went in. .

Five goals, including a keeper fuck up, a long range shot and a free kick. Two red cards. Plus we fought back from 2-0 down and looking completely fucked to 2-2 and looking like we could win it before blowing it at the end.

Of course I'm pissed we lost the game in the last minute, but shit happens. Doesn't stop me being entertained though.

First thing he did when coming on was trot back to defend a corner.

To be fair, he didn't really get a chance. Which was partly due to his poor positioning but mainly due to him not being played in when he was running in to space. Not sure he really fits in with the team and the way we play, he's got the pace but if Wilson can't figure out how to use it he might as well get rid of him sooner rather than later.

How anyone can say Cuthbert was shit tonight is beyond my comprehension. He cleared up so much behind Morrison and Amankwah all fucking night and was the reason we didn't ship a couple more goals.

Morrison let the occaision get to him tonight I thought. Can't of been easy for him up against the team he signed for as a schoolboy. Possibly at fault for not getting in front of his man for the third goal, but didn't do much wrong otherwise. Just no where near the confident performances we've seen of late.

Tommy and Perry were fucking woeful. They got bossed by a couple of mahoosive CB's with fuck all other than muscle and shirt-pulling tactics on show, and both got owned. Very dissapointed with the half chances missed and I wouldn't be surpised to see Wilson dip into the loan market before the weekend. Neither of them can complain that they had no service when 5 or 6 decent chances went begging that Charlie would of put away in his sleep, with his cock.

Caddis gets better by the game. Did well tonight.

Prutton is a bit Pepperami anyway. He's going to get 2 or 3 reds every season. Took his goal well and put him self about well before the red.

Rose looked competent and did well with his goal.

Amankwah and JPM definately our weakest players at the moment.

Lucas cant afford another lack of concentration any time soon.

Getting dicked by a better team on the day is something we have to learn from.

I'm not defending him, he was dogshit. But he did make 2 runs which we were too slow spotting. Literally 2. Not 3 and definitely not 4, but it was more than 1, that being 2.

I thought Cuthbert had a decent game tonight BTW. Our only half decent defender.

I'm with Leefer and Johnny on the "well entertained bandwagon". I thoroughly enjoyed the match. Coming back from two stupid goals to even it up was ace. Yeah, we lost but it was a good goal and tbh I think they edged the game.

We looked horribly dead up front tonight though. No flair or good touches. Perhaps Dossevi was out of sorts but he was nowhere near Saturday's performance. Missing Mr A a lot.

JPM was anonymous again. Worrying. Caddis gets better and better.

Pratton's (sic) goal was well taken, Rose's free kick was excellent. O'Brien could have made such a difference when he came on if he did his one trick pony act running like a fucking fast fucker. But no, he wandered aimlessly. Very frustrating.

Crap bench again and with Pratton and probably Sheehan out it's all looking rather threadbare.

Saw Sheehan in the bar afterwards and he was limping badly so I can not see him being back for a few weeks at least Pruttons was 2 yellows so it should be only 1 game but it was a stupid tackle. JPM was lost on the left I could not see why Wilson did not move Caddis over there and put JPM back on the right where he can whip the ball in.

Rose and O Brien have no connection between them.  JPM and Kev or Kev and Caddis are far more dangerous where as on the left they just get confused and end up throwing passes no where.

:sherlock:  It's SY's fault for turning up.

We did make some silly errors tonight and on occasions looked nervous. When teams are physical (ala Millwall) against us we don't have a great deal of answers. When we press teams we look at our best. Plymouth weren't the best footballing side I've seen but they seemed determined to press us and attack with pace.

AOB frustrates me because when he pushes forward he looks a different player, I don't know if he was waiting for the overlap but he seemed to struggle to find an outlet tonight.

Ah well, good to see a fightback......shame about the last 2 minutes  :(

I think Smith should start against Dagenham. Sorry but Lucas has been pretty mistake prone this season so far. Smith has played a few games and done nothing wrong. Chuck him in again. I's be tempted to go back to the flat 4-4-2 on Saturday. Get JP back on the right and try Caddis on the left. Ferry and JD in the centre. Can't see the diamond working without Prutton and JP isn't really the same player with that system.

Although JP was generally anonymous he did put two cracking crosses in which led to the keeper's point blank save and Dossevi's header. Think we would have got a point if Plymouth didn't go down to 10 men. We'll miss Sheehan and Prutton for the next couple of games. Hope the rumours saying Charlie might be back for the Rovers game turn out to be true.

shame we lost that one, obviously a really bad 1st to concede and a slightly unlucky 2nd, JP did well but the bounce went with 'muff, really should have dealt with it in the box though.

they did do well stopping us playing but i thought we started to 'mix it' well with them and we deservedly got back to 2-2, from there anything could have happened, and did...

as for loan signings - yes please asap.

neither peri or dossevi are going to score loads and the sooner we can put a goalscorer on the pitch the better, over the last two games there were countless half chances in and around the 6 yard box and a fit charlie austin probably would have plundered 5 goals between the two games - we need to add that instict and we'll start looking very strong i think.

on to daggers then with hopefully a goal getter in the side.

A poor team performance last night. We were fortunate to get back to 2-2 and probably deserved what we got.
Up until his 'Red Mist Moment', Prutton was my MOTM by a mile, the only player who seemed to give a shit.
Results like this will happen (Remember rovers last season?) it's how we come back on Saturday that will tell us how far this team can go.

To complete the evening's overall shiteness, had to do a detour on the way home due to road closures and didn't get back till gone 12.30.

Was a good game to watch imo. Although the first ten minutes reminded me of 6 weeks ago. After that we got going and we fully deserved to draw ourselves level. I think we can feel a bit hard done by not to have come away with a point there.

Plymouth were good though, make no mistake. They did exactly what they said they'd do and exploited the flanks. Lucas redeemed himself and made some good saves and we've also forced their keeper into a couple.
Prutton can probably feel slightly hard done by, the first booking was never a booking and the 2nd came from being over excited after we'd pulled it back. I had a feeling it was coming all game though funnily enough.

Dossevi was pretty poor last night, couldn't cope with their strength and could barely stay onside. Vince couldn't trap the ball although his heading was ok. Caddis, Cuthbert and Prutton were our best 3 imo. AOB looked absolutely clueless and Rose went some way to redeeming himself.

Plymouth kept going though and popped the ball around quickly and with purpose and probably feel like they got their rewards. Dunno what their fans are so gloomy for!

i think some of the stick aimed at pericard is still a bit too harsh, he basically played up top on his own and either got the ball long at head height or was holding the ball up for our midfield to get involved somewhat belatedly

i also like how people have asked for 442 on saturday but we ended the first half and played the entire 2nd half playing this way, and it didn't work.

AOB as stated is clueless and any criticism aimed at rose for not passing to him is even more clueless. what would the point be in passing the ball 4 metres to a winger who's got a fullback right up his arse? especially one that looked as off as AOB did.

Ferry looked a bit out of sorts and really didn't fancy a tackle at all, but he's just coming back from an injury and did have some impact i guess.

We need loan players in urgently, Dossevi is never gonig to score, should have had hat trick with the clear cut chances he had and didn't put 1 away, Pericard will get a few goals possibly but we need a decent partner for Austin, it is bad when we have to rely on a 21 year old to get us goals, I'm not sure we have enough players in the team willing to have a go on goal.

We lack strength in depth in all departments.

Prutton may end up with more than a 2 match ban being his 2nd red of the season, didn't Douglas end up with a 5 game ban last season for 2 reds  - he is becoming a liability if he is going to collect red and yellow cards like confetti

If we keep this team until the end of the season I think we will miss out on promotion as the players we have signed are clearly not as good what we had at the end of last season

I'm annoyed that at 2 down we get it back and don't have the brains when we go down to 10 men to sit back a little and accept a draw instead we had to keep committing players forward, but the pace of Wright Phillips caused our players problems all night, we couldn't keep up with him

Exactly. We came into the game five unbeaten and on a 3-win run. Win on Saturday and last night is just a blip, touch of the Lord Mayor's Parade after a superb performance on Saturday. Lose the next two, then we can start worrying.

We made an average side look outstanding for 15-20 minutes. Plymouth will struggle IMHO but they fucked us over last night.

Lucas looked a bit wobbly but no more than Smith does IMO.

Prutton has improved play wise but is a liability.

Forwards just didnt cut it....how many missed chances were there? and im talking clear cut fuckers!

He may well be. Unfortunately before the red he was also one of our best players, the only real creative dynamic threat we had. Up until the past few weeks I'd been really disappointed in Prutton, now I'm starting to understand why we signed him. I think we'll have to just learn to take both sides of it, and think of him like we would an injury-prone player "Good player when he's not banned (injured)"

Didn't want to post last night as emotions were high and I was mighty pissed off, but after sleeping on it.....

Lucas - couple of good stops last night, but last night and against Huddersfield has made a few basic mistakes.  MAY be time to swap him for Smith, but Danny & George Wood will have to think long and hard over it.

Prutton - Generally played better last night than he has before for us, but both yellow cards were unnecesary.  Concerned about his mental strength especailly after his last early bath when he said words to the effect of "i'm sure it won't be my last red card".  Bloody annoyed!

Pericard & Dossevi - I think we may have a couple of Emile Heskey's here is so far as they are great strike partners, but will not necessarily bang in the goals themselves and as a result will split the opinions of us fans.  Need to find another "poacher" type striker in the ilk of Charlie Austin to work alongside them.

O'Brien - Disagree with the posts that he went missing.  I thought he came on and made some fantastic runs down the wing.  Wasn't given the ball often enough to really make an impact.

General Team performance - For the last few games I have thought that we have been playing like Arsenal and trying to pass the ball into the net.  Need to start crossing the ball into the box earlier and causing problems, BT....am pleased that we showed some spirit in coming back from 2-0 down as not too long ago we would have just collapsed like Leeds did last night, so can see some positives!

Does anyone else think that in the first half we were passing too much when right in front of goal. Should of just hada a shot or at least put it in the box.

They did their homework and closed us down very quickly when we had the ball and didn't give us any time in the first half to spray it about like we normally do, I thought they were a good side, but if we had Charlie in the side it would've been a different scoreline I think, their central defenders were big, but a liability, every time they won a header you were never convinced it was going to go away from goal, their clearances were pretty awful, and the goalkeeper looked dodgy also.
Dossevi and Pericard had enough chances between them to score a couple of goals and the amount of times they got caught offside was very frustrating.

I was impressed with their winger Craig Noone, playing on the right, he often came inside and had a dangerous shot with his left foot and caused the defence a lot of problems.

After being handicapped with a 2 goal deficit before we even got a chance to get going, it showed great determination and team spirit to ease ourselves back into the game and get back on level terms.  Under previous management era’s the game with have been over after 6 mins but last night I expected us to be able to get back to 2-2.

Credit where its due to Plymouth, I thought some of the attacking moves were as good as you will see in this league.  Pace, movement, 1-2 touch passing sequences, etc, most league 1 defences will struggle to cope with moves like that.

In terms of the players, Morrison was poor but inconsistency will always affect young players. Can’t see how people thought Cuthbert had a bad game, barely put a foot wrong and saved Morrison’s backside on a couple of occasions.  Prutton deserved to go, there can be little argument about either card but I won’t criticize for eagerness and aggressiveness in a central midfielder.  Thought JPM was better last night and it was more evidence that he is clearly more effective on the wing even if it wasn’t he preferred side.  Vince and Doss rarely got any linkup play going but seeing as the Plymouth number 5 was to rape Vince for most of the night that didn’t help.

Random fan irritations of the night go to people slagging off Vince for being slow.  Do they not understand that it is a physical limitation in the same way that Ferry or Caddis won’t be out jumping 6ft+ defenders?  You can’t train in way to make yourself quicker, criticize somewhere for doing something wrong if want but you can’t criticize someone for something they have no control over!

I thought it was an entertaining game, but entertaining isn't the right word. Value for money league 1 football I guess.

Was happy to come back to 2-2 and see us pushing for the winner. Plymouth were a decent side going forwards and woeful at the back, their centre backs and keeper looked terrified under very little pressure and we didn't really capitalise.

Two things which got me livid last night:
Dossevi getting caught offside for the sixth time
O'brien hiding. Can't put my finger on it but he doesn't look like a 'Wilson player' to me

I dont understand why people still knock prutton as i thought he was superb last night,He was running from one end to the other, everytime we lost the ball he tracked back and was chucking himself into the challenges. I think you can tell he's ex championship and you can see why wilson picks him everytime. I think he was rash with some challenges but that's the way he plays.

I thought Prutton showed what a threat he can be pushing forward, he made a number of good runs once he was moved in to the centre and of course there was the goal. I still don't understand why Wilson doesn't play him at the top of the diamond, he's more suited to it than JPM and it would allow JPM to play out wide where he is best.

I know a lot of people say Prutton and Douglas in the middle doesn't work but it did last night. Think it comes down to Wilson needing to get Prutton to be the one that pushes forward and slapping him about a bit if he doesn't and cramps Douglas instead.

At least he's stopped attacking the officials which is progress, he'll always pick up plenty of bookings though and I'm not sure that's a bad thing - don't think our midfield was physical enough last season. It's always worth ensuring the opposition knows you mean business.

Better teams in the league???  You are having a Giraffe!!

No team thats any good gives the other side 10 chances!!
Defensively they were a bit shoddy, but i thought their overall gameplay was better than what any opposition could musta up at the CG this season. They're very good attacking wise, if you like!

It was probably the stupid red card that cost us the game - just a thought.

Re: AOB. There was one passage of play that just summed him/us up. Rose had the ball AOB made a run and was pointing infront of him. He was level with the full back and a ball down the line and with his pace he would have been in behind. Rose didnt play the ball, then AOB bent his run back up the line, so he was infront of the full back. Then Rose played him the ball and AOB got tackled.

His assest is clearly his pace, so why do we play it to his feet and not down the line infront of him?

They were both at fault. Rose could've released him at certain points. AOB didn't always make that run and there was one instance where the sensible ball was to go inside and AOB simply couldn't see it and stood with his back to goal on the touchline.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not normally one to slag players off, but he's got to be one of the worst I have ever seen in a Town shirt, and that includes Jason Drysdale! He's like the lad in your Sunday team who isn't very good, but turns up every week to sit on the bench so you feel obliged to give him a run out, stick him out on the wing and hope he doesn't give the ball away too much. Has looked totally clueless every time I've seen him play. Would rather have seen one of the youth lads given a game last night.

I still think Pericard is a quality player. He got bullied and bashed last night and still did a good job. We all know he isn't going to score much, but that isn't why he is in the team.

Good free kick aside, Rose is fucking gash. His defending is suspect, his positioning is terrible... he got fucking megged last night FFS!! All this and he holds on to the ball too long every time, admittedly he looked better before AOB came on... these two clearly have no understanding between them whatsoever.

Maybe he'd be better suited to playing left midfield?

Rose did alot better defensively last night, looked more solid.  He also used the ball better and delivered dangerous set pieces.  The very few errors he made like being megged are the only ones you choose to mention.

Rose got megged once and caught in possession at least twice. It's a good job he's quite quick because he needs his pace to get himself out of a hole.

You can't carry a player in a team just because he delivers dangerous set pieces, he also needs to be able to do his job.

It just totally confuses me how lost he looks. He's been a left winger all his career, it's not like it's a new position for him to learn.

When you've got pace like he has you look to run beyond the full back, not pick the ball up deep and lay it off to a team-mate straight away.

No footballing brain whatsoever.

I thought AOB just looked terrified of making a mistake and so, in the way of these things, much more prone to doing so. As people were on his back before he'd even got on the pitch, such apprehension was perhaps understandable. Don't understand how people think telling a player who's having a bad game he's shit will improve him

I wouldn't mind seeing Rose ahead of Kennedy on Saturday in a 442.

Douglas and Ferry in the middle and either Caddis or JPM wide right.

I'd start AOB in the piss poor paint pot and basically tell him its make or break time for him.

I reckon all of our left backs could do a job on the left of midfield, but Wilson hasn't tried it yet (bar maybe towards the end of the game as a last resort) and I doubt he will. I'm probably on my own, but I reckon LJF could potentially do a good job there. Don't think any of them would be worse than O'Brien.

so in theory...

JP/Caddis  Ferry/Prutts  JD  Rose/Kennedy/Sheehan/LJF

either way you look at it there's plenty of graft and some great crosses potentially coming in from both flanks.

i wouldn't be against it at all, and certainly against team's like 'muff who use the width would look probably more solid.

Just as importantly, LJF and our other left backs, have similar attributes to our right sided midfielders compared to O'Brien who just looks out of place. Would give the midfield and team a far better balance. Playing JPM and Prutton on the left but not trying one of our left backs seems pretty dumb to me. But then I don't even play FM so what the fuck do I know.

It was an enjoyable match, I thought Plymouth looked a decent side with a good mix of flair and no nonsense players like Fletcher. Craig Noone was very good.

Pericard and Dossevi upfront are always going to struggle for goals - I think they have both scored something like 10 goals each since 2006!

They really don't work as a partnership due to the lack of pace but of course we don't have anyone else match fit so that is the only option. I would throw David Ball in if he is back at the weekend. As others have said, we are getting the ball into the right positions so we will be fine once Austin returns. Every game people around me have been going on about replacing Paynter - I wish they would shut it because sadly what we have is what we are going to stay with I think.

One final point, 'Richtheref', are you on the wind up?

My take; Lucas 4-shocking error and it affected him,one decent save but a mistake like that means a low mark
Amankwah 4-looked really uncomfortable all night
Morrison 4-did the hype go to his head?never put a foot(or head) right all night
Cuthbert 7-after the first 10 minutes was absolutely solid, best defender by a mile
Sheehan -looked strangely out of it before his injury, caught out of position several times
Rose 6-worried when he came on,but was not total shit.
JPM 5-looks anonymous at the moment, one quality cross though
Douglas 7-MOTM for me,showed usual tenacity, leadership and rarely gave the ball away.
            Prutton 0-unforgiveable
Caddis 7-impressed with his tenacity and work rate
Pericard 4-missed badly the best chance of the night.Lazy, only once did he close down defenders, and was rewarded with a free kick.too choosy with his effort, although 1 touch of class to set up Dossevi.
Dossevi 4-missed a fucking hatful. Is he just unintelligent or does he not genuinely know what offside is about?

Danny should have taken Prutton off before the sending off, the way he was throwing himself around it was obvious he was going to pick up the second yellow. Up until that point Prutton was having a good game, but appears to need saving from himself once he's on a booking.

Felt sorry for O'Brien. If you're going to bring him on you then need to play the ball over the top into space for him to run onto, not the sort of balls into feet that you can with JP. For my money, O'Brien just doesn't fit into the way the team plays and we either need to get a left winger on on loan, or try one of the Left backs in there. I would go for LJF.

I'm not suggesting either that he's a good footballer or that we should try and accomodate him. We need someone in who can play in our system. I do think LJF has all he attributes needed and would be worth a try.

It might be worth shipping O'Brien out on loan to L2 or the Conference to get him consistent game time and a bit of confidence. Surely, as a full international, he must be better than we've seen from him?

Agreed. Sorry mis-read your point. Our priority should be getting another striker on loan, ideally with pace. The amount of times our play broke down when it reached up front was too many. I think Rose would do a job at left wing, or try LJF

I thought Lucas pulled off some great saves late on in the second half. Yes he made a bad mistake for the 1st goal, but hes still a great keeper. Its a shame we couldnt test their keeper more because he was dodgy. He struggled to dive to his right, and he couldnt kick with his right foot at all.

Caddis was excellent, and showed the sort of class that we were expecting. I thought Rose showed some signs of growing confidence. But we will miss Sheehan badly.

Pericard could not hold the ball up. We played too much long ball, but he missed some easy lay offs. Dossevi looked good in patches but he shows no confidence at all in front of goal. Hes going to be a problem player because hes never going to score enough goals up front. There is also no point hoofing the ball to him, he just cant hack it. Austin's ball retention has always been excellent and we miss it.

Some positives, but overrall, its a game to forget.

Must agree, O'Brien's is all about pace, frightening player to mark if given a chance to run at a defence. Without giving him the space he hasn't really much to offer.

Fucking hell people get a grip. Newcastle,Carslile,Hibs and now swindon appear to not have been able to play to his strenghs then.

You watched him alot at Newcastle, Carlisle and Hibs?

We certainly dont play to his strengths.

Playing to his strengths aside. He didn't look interested on Tuesday.. this is not good enough.

I agree. He didnt.

I dont think even he plays to his strengths. He comes looking for the ball short way too often.

That said, I'd play him behind the front two. Get Vince to lay it off (!!!) to an on rushing AOB get him to run and then as soon as he gets near the penalty spot punt it as hard as can!!!

Goal machine in waiting.

Not so much disinterested as a combination of terrified/very unsure of himself/what he was supposed to be doing. He had started to look better when he built up a run of games earlier this season (not great, but better), might help him get back to that and build on it if people gave him a chance a bit more

Have we got time to give players a chance if we want to do well this season? I know its a very cut throat view but we cant be carrying players.. surely he's had enough time to settle in?

Fair point. I actually more meant about people giving him a chance when he does play. Tuesday people were on his back before he'd even got on the pitch, don't see how that's going to help a player

Yes very true, every player should get full support from the fans. However he is bloody frustrating to watch sometimes isn't he and when we were in the position were in on Tuesday it is pretty hard to contain the frustration.

But you are totally right getting on the players backs isn't going to help.

However I loved giving Gurney some shit away at Cheltenham a few years back.

No i clearly didn't the same way you don't watch every player you post negative shit about when we sign them. You have hardly been pericards biggest fan have you

I think prutton should count himself lucky that the card wasn't a straight red - two footed & coming off of the floor, he's got no control over his body.

In that short passage of play the second challenge could have quite easily gave him a yellow too. Moron.

Simply logic states the glass is half full and half empty. Two halves make a whole.

I'm not Pericards biggest fan - but thats judged on what he's done for us. Not alot. I'm not going to judge him on his time at Juventus of which I saw exactly nothing.

Therefore we are entitled to judge O'brien on his performances for us then? His performance for previous clubs are irrelevant.

Yes, don't eat asparagus from Peru....not only is it bad form the carbon footprint viewpoint, but it's causing a water shortage in Peru.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/sep/15/peru-asparagus-british-wells

Also although the Bath Asparagus found in Clout's Wood is as tasty as asparagus, don't  eat that either or there wont be any left as it's rare...

Looking at the highlights, I reckon Prutton should have got a straight red for the tackle immediately before the one he got the second yellow for. Both feet off the ground and studs showing should have been a pretty easy call for the ref, whether contact was made or the ball won doesn't come in to it with a tackle like that.

Their sending off looked spot on as well, the handball looking pretty deliberate plus it was on the edge of the box.

I have left it until today to post as i have been away, what is noticable is how many more comments on here when the team loses than when they win Hmmmmm i wonder why that is? How quickly some turn on Swindon players when things dont go the winning way and i had to sit and listen to some big, bearded K@@bhead shouting abuse in the Arkells at every player on the pitch on Tuesday and its only the fact im such a lady that he didnt get my boot up his backside his favourate word was c@@t and there were 2 little lads sat infront of me it was a bloody disgrace............rant over

The game well Plymuff are pretty much the same as last years Championship team, after the 2 goals we could see the boys were physically stunned and all credit to them to get back level a draw would have been fantastic after the first 10 minutes but onwards and upwards, blaitantly obvious a striker is needed  :bye:

I really do think some of our "supporters" get off on bad results

There's more comments because people are analysing the detail as to where it went wrong. If we win people tend not feel the need to do so as much because the result speaks for itself.

The trouble is, logically, that's not right.  I can't remember how many times last season, especially in the earlier games, we got points, but those at the game said how awful the game had been and how badly such and such a player had played...but we won and that's all that matters.....there must be an equal number of occasions when, overall, the team plays well, but because such and such a player (read Lucas, Prutton, O'Brien, Amankwaah, JPM, Cuthbert, Morrison, Rose, Smith, Douglas, Pericard.......) made a mistake here, or a bad tackle there, we lost.  As I read comments on Tuesday night, I get the impression from the majority that, actually, barring the Lucas error, the Prutton sending-off and doubts on the O'Brien role, the team played pretty well, so I can't see why there has to be this constant analysis of individual weaknesses.  There is plenty of evidence that players do read these columns, and also that they are badly affected by barracking from sections of the crowd.  There is also growing agreement that actually the squad is looking better overall than last season's.  So why not begin from those premises?  When I turned on my computer at 8pm to find we were two down, no-one could have been any more depressed than I was, and the defeat was very frustrating; but that doesn't need to turn into the wholesale attack on any individual's reputation or ability.

People give up their time and money to watch Swindon, so of course poor results will frustrate. I agree berating players at the game is stupid, which is why forums are good because it gives you somewhere to blow off steam.

The logic is good I think. I said there were more negative comments when we lose. Going back to early last season the threads for Gillingham and MK were longer than the next three fixtures.
