I'm quite looking forward to see him given the chance he couldn't get last season.

I hope we're not going to rely on him too much, I know Fitton mentioned the other day about him stepping up and filling Paynter's shoes but i hope we go out and sign 2 strikers, Preferably an experienced one and a young one, Because if Pericard gets more chances next season and doesn't do the business then we could be in trouble if we haven't got a couple more strikers signed up, Just hope Wilson isn't pinning all his hopes on him without getting another experienced striker in.

His goal scoring record is appalling, I don't deny he holds the ball up well and has shown glimpses where he looked good but he has been poor since he signed although i take into consideration his injury problems and lack of games.

I think at this level VP is easily a minimum 15 goals a season striker. He's just been unlucky with injuries since his move. It must of been hard for him to have to sit on the bench watching Billy & Charlie playing week in week out.

With a good pre-season in front of him i think he'll suprise quite a few people this coming season.

I would be delighted/a tad surprised with 15 goals from Pericard this season.

We've been through this before. His goal scoring record prior to joining us is very similar to Paynter's and his current "goal drought" for us isn't even as long as Austin's longest "goal drought". He was quite highly rated and it was a bit of a surprise him coming here, he was only at Carlisle to put himself in the shop window.

And that's the key right there. Good pre-season, fully fit, a proper run in the side and it's happy days!

I think he will come good, when ive seen him come on, he has been a handful for defenders, and with a full pre season and a few 90 minutes under his belt, i think he can be at least a 10 minimum goalscorer, hes more of a heskey player though, sets up and brings the best out in players rather than a goalscorer from what i've seen, but if you look at his scorpion kick for carlise against norwich and his super striker for stoke, shows there is some goalscoring ability in him :)

Statistics like this never really prove anything. This last season being the prime example.

How many times did he really get any amount of game time for us? He certainly didnt play 15 games, which is what it these stats make it look like. A 30 second subs appearance count the same as a 90 minute appearance. Forlan had a similar record at Manu, scored something like 15 goals, but only started about 25-30 games, all the rest were from the bench (Am guessing at these stats, but is something like that).

I say give him a run, if he scores, or to be honest even plays a Heskey type role and sets up play for the rest of the team to score, then alls good. If he does neither then get shot.

Danny Wilson will get the best out of him.

Just like he got the best out of Paynter.

He doesn't look confident and the fans aren't helping.

The bigger worry is he has only made an average of just under 13 appearances per season in those 11 years.

But you have to give the guy a fair crack at it.

You dont wind up having anything to do with Juventus if youre shit. VP has definitely got something about him, however whether its been lack of confidence/work ethic/injury/Charlie & Billy partnership or any number of these put together he hasnt delivered the goods, YET. Im of the opinion he definitely has the skills to pay the bills, I just dont know whats going to bring it out of him. People need to start getting off his back for a start though. How can you be expected to be on top of your game when your own fans wont even give you a decent chance?

Know how many starts anyone?

Wasn't it pointed out that Austin went longer without scoring in terms of minutes played?

Soccerbase has all the answers....

Indeed it was - by me. The details are on the other thread where we discussed this to exhaustion but off the top of my head I think Austin went the equivalent of over 4 games without scoring which was more than Pericard has played for us in total.

From what I've seen of him I'll be very surprised if he's still here at Christmas. Of course I'll be delighted if he proves me wrong and starts cracking the goals in.

To have a goal drought for us you have to have scored for us at least once.

Most points have been covered. I think at this level he could be very useful, however, to be useful he needs a string of games. This obviously depends on his fitness which seems to have blighted his career somewhat. A good injury free pre-season followed by a run in the team and Big Vincey will be a threat to any league 1 defence. He could be Swindon's version of Heskey for England  :D

One of my most vivid memories of the home leg of the play off semis was his reaction when he went close for us at the end of the second half.  He very nearly scored a very tricky goal for us...and when he didn't quite manage it, he was completely gutted.

I honestly don't know whether the ability is there - but I'm fairly sure that he's hungry and wants to succeed for us.  Really hope he gets his chance and that it works out for him (and us).
