Thats got to be bollocks....we play in red, Millwall play in blue so why the fuck are we in white...

Oh unless its because they have sold out of home replica kits and have a glut of the white ones left......sorry to be a cynic

I can only think this must be something to do with our sponsorship deals we have, maybe so many games in each shirt etc i dunno.

Can't see any logical reason

We have won at Wembley twice since then. In red.

Exactly.

If it was another cup final rather than a play off final then they would have more reason to wear white.

I hate this.

Title: Re: White Kit
Post by: pride_of_wilts on Friday, May 21, 2010, 15:52:27
Because of this we have to wear red:-

In 1993 we stumbled over the line, having been in contention for an automatic spot. Just like this year...
We played the first leg of the semi final at home, the second away. Just like this year...
We got to the final to play a team who had lost at the same stage the previous season. Just like this year...
We played in red, them in blue. Just like this year...
It's fated to be.

It might be easier to understand if they explained why, just putting 'the decision was reached...' means fuck all.

Can't really see a valid reason for it though, millwall will be playing in blue so what's the problem with us playing in our first kit?

I think everyone should boycott going to Wembley.

I for one won't be there!

Commercials an be the only reason. If you are EA sports, you get more publicity from this game than the rest of them put together - it would make sense to have an agreement in place just in case we got to wembley.

I'm genuinely gutted. Millwall get their traditional colours, we don't. It's just shit.

What a ridiculous decision. If anybody tries to use the argument that we wore allwhite in 69,
both teams played in their change colours. This white kit is our 3rd kit.

I'm reminded of a couple of years ago, when QPR tried a similar thing and wore an allwhite kit
in the play-off final.They lost!

Come on you Reds!

Our biggest game in ten years and we can't even wear our traditional colours. It's pathetic.

If it really is a sponsorship/advertising issue then they should just get special 'home' kits made up with the sponsors reversed, a la the away kit.

not happy with this at all. was so looking forward to seeing the famous red shirts back in the famous red stadium

I've emailed nick watkins and had a good old moan.

I imagine this is sponsorship driven, that we've said to EA sports "yeah we'll wear this strip a couple of times a season, and tell you what if we get to the playoff final we'll wear it at wembley - deal?"

If this is the case, what would have happened had we met leeds in the playoff final

Without seeing the contracts, there's no way of knowing. 442 may, just as an example, say that only they can be on the home shirts. We may be completely jumping the gun - it may have nothing to do with sponsorship, but its the only plausible explanation.

"We had to inform the Football League of our kit choice a few weeks ago," said Town Chief Executive Nick Watkins.

That was because of the red colour clash with Arsenal,so both teams had to wear their away kits.

At the end of the day (I love saying that) if the players have chosen it, then surely we should accept that as they're the ones playing in it. They were also the ones that insisted on wearing the blue a lot, so perhaps they find the red like a bad luck charm or something?!

If they find playing in red a fucking bad luck charm then they're at the wrong club wouldn't you say?!

RED ARMY!! half of wembley in red, half in blue, the classic old school rivalry. Then a fucking white team on the pitch come on what is going on here?

Maybe that was the straw that broke the camel's back? They just can't stand having to play in red ever again.

I think mine was polite and got the point across....

Dear Nick,
I'm sure you're aware that many of our fans are very unhappy about the club's decision to wear the white kit at Wembley. In a match between Millwall and Swindon there is no need to change and many of us cannot understand this.
Swindon Town wear red and what has the potential to be one of our greatest days, we should be wearing our traditional colours.

Please can you listen to us the fans!!

Many thanks

Ralph Austin

At the end of the day (I love saying that) if the players have chosen it, then surely we should accept that as they're the ones playing in it. They were also the ones that insisted on wearing the blue a lot, so perhaps they find the red like a bad luck charm or something?!

Shocking decision by the club, I am very angry about this! Here's my e-mail to Nick, i've joined the FB group aswell and invited all of my friends, swindon fans or not. RED ARMY!!!

Dear Nick,

I'm writing to you asking the club to reconsider it's kit choice for the play-off final at Wembley.

I, like many other fans, simply cannot understand the decision to wear our white away kit against a team that plays in blue.

Yourself and the rest of the board have done wonders for our club since you took over and this is the first time I can remember thinking that you are making a mistake.

Swindon Town are RED, we as fans have been asked to paint the town red by the Adver and our end at Wembley will be bathed in a sea of red. It is our colour, we sing come on you reds and red army. We wont be able to sing these songs at wembley if our team is wearing white.

I hope that you will acknowledge the strength of feeling on this issue and inform the football league that Swindon Town will be wearing red at Wembley.

Thank you for listening.

Kind Regards,

Sorry. They've done very well to get there, but there are 30k of us paying a shitload of money for this. Do we get a say?

That's more or less what I said in a polite way and pointed out that we're known as Danny Wilson's RED and WHITE army not WHITE and BLUE.

I don't imagine they would have realised the outcry this would have caused, so will be interested in what the response is?

We are unbeaten, except for a penalty shootout loss at Wolves, in the Carling Cup.

Results in it :

Exeter  1-1
Brentford 3-2
Exeter (JPT) 1-1
Charlton 2-2
L Orient 0-0

Jesus wept! Some of you really need to get a grip.

I'd prefer us to be in red, but if seems we have a squad of supersitious jessies who need to be in their favourite coloured kit to win a big game, in which case they are as big a bunch of ninnies as the whingers on this thread!

Still, if it works like it did at Leeds, and like it did in 69 then nobody will be complaining will they?

Weird thing is, we were all singing "come on you reds" at Charlton despite playing in blue... I guess most people will do the same at Wembley whatever we're wearing.

Still think they should have asked the fans before making any decision.

I expect most fans didn't know there was a decision to be made.

Red Vs Blue - in both league games both teams have worn their home kit.

Why should there be a decision now? Clearly there was one to be made but I still don't understand why.

Must be a marketing decision to do with EA Sports, If not then it makes the board's decision look even more ridiculous.

On the OS, it says after discussing with the players DW made this decision to wear white.

There are always discussions on here about what bizarre kit change we make at places this season such as Leeds, Fulham & Wycombe

Because there could have been an agreement with them that we would wear the away kit should we get to the play-off final? That's probably not the case but if it is then surely we could have had EA Sports printed onto some red shirts?

I don't understand why the player's would choose to wear white either? Considering our traditional colour is red and our main kit is red, I just don't get that.

You seem to be the only one with that opinion to be fair. Do you not see that it is a strange decision they have made.

Yes its a strange decision but I dont see any reason to chuck my toys out of the pram.

We played in white in 69 because the players thought it was lucky, Arsenal played in Yellow and Blue so we could have played in red if we'd wanted to.

I just cant get worked up about this, sorry. People were kicking off about it at Fulham aswell, but the sky didnt fall in, the team played well and 6,000 odd Town fans had a great day out in London. Whats the big deal?

To be fair in every game we have lost this season we have worn red. Maybe they do see it as a bit of a lucky thing. The blue seems to be the lucky kit but obviously we can't wear that.

I totally agree with what you're saying, We all expected to be wearing red without even thinking about it.

However as the board were obviously open minded about wearing a different kit hence asking the players then surely they should have consulted the fans and asked them? They should have asked the fans not the players in my opinion, Then again they should just have gone with red and not bothered asking the players at all and left it at that.

I moved away from the PC for a while and busied myself doing other things and tried to come round to the minority's way of thinking and thought back over the last week's events.

At this precise time last week, the majority of us were at the CG getting superbly behind the team wearing red to get a decent score to give us the best chance in the second leg.  At around 9.10 pm on Monday night, some of us were then again when it looked like the only place we were going was back down the M4 feeling bloody awful with the season over.  However, we all know what happened from there, so maybe we should just count ourselves lucky that we've even got the opportunity to moan about the colour of the kit we'll be playing in at Wembley?

No, hasn't worked.  It's still a crap decision and I'm still totally pissed off about it!

Tradition and identity. It was wrong for Fulham and even more wrong for this game. It doesn't make a whit of difference to the result, but it is part of our identity, part of what is Swindon Town. I assume you'd be quite happy for us to play in yellow at home and black and white stripes away next season? It's a massive, showpiece game and everyone watching is going to go 'why the fuck are they wearing white?!'. I really cannot get my head around it and the reasons coming out of the club just dont stack up. What if we were playing Huddersfield? We wouldn't be able to wear white then.

The club probably wont reverse their decision, but they certainly need to know from the fans what a massive mistake they have made.

Oh well, i'm sure the club will have to respond on this in some fashion, it will at least be interesting to hear what they have to say.

The only possible explanation I can think of other than sponsorship commitments is that they are thinking it could be a hot day and that white might be more comfortable than red to play in. This could also explain the decision to play in white at Wycombe which was a warm day.

Having said that I agree with the majority that red is our colour and we should be playing in our traditional colours.

Watkins has royally fucked up here. He's the CEO of the club and should know fucking better than to change the colour of our strip for a mahoosive game like a play off final.

The press stuff saying that the White strip is the one preferred by the players is total wank as well. I wouldn't want to piss off the players, but it stinks of Watkins hiding behind them and effectively daring anyone to rock the boat by dissagreeing with them ahead of the final.

If its a pre-agreed sponsorship thing with EA, fine. I dont agree with it, but I would understand the decision.

As things stand though, It's a fuck up which stinks.

Maybe our CEO got carried away with prancing around the pitch celebrating with the players on monday night when he'd have been better off doing his fucking job.

Some great posts and yes at one level isn't it great that there are 17 pages of "disgusted from Swindon" about such a relatively (after what we've been through) minor issue.

However the East end will be a wall (no puns intended) of blue and our's, the famous Swindon Town's, a mish mash of white and blue and black and potato green and just like Brazil yellow and red even.

RED is central to our identity and has been for over a century (or in Fitton-franchise-speak the single most enduring feature of the Swindon "brand") and Swindon Town needs showcasing at Wembley.

Sponsors and player wishes can all be respectfully and effectively accomodated but should not be calling the shots on shirt colour.

For those who agree and who have not already, do give an email to Nick Watkins so that the Board at least has a chance to go back to Red:

[email protected]

The board have:

Cleared the debt; brought a professionalism to the Club not seem in decades; introduced high profile sponsorship; appointed a quality manager; released funds to the manager that enabled him to build a strong squad; planned building works that will bring The County Ground into the 21st Century.

Most of you, due to the manager, the players and in no small part the board, are going to watch your team play at Wembley for the first time since 1993.

I can understand disappointment that we won't be wearing red, but some of the comment on this thread are way OTT.

I wonder what people did back in 1969 when we were not wearing red (although suppose Arsenal were the home team??), post each other letters of disgust or call into local radio as there was no internet.

I don't give a fuck really what I wear as long as we win. Ok it would be better in red but will you all be saying "YEAH WE WON BUT WE SHOULD HAVE WORE RED" if we win? Doubt it. Total over-reaction IMO.

Fuck Off DV. I didnt see half these people make the trip to Carlisle on a Tuesday night where we lost 3-0 and were close to going fucking bust? If the fans you are sticking up for are so great then why the fuck do we get crowds of 8,000 or so???  Funny how 24,000 show up out of fucking nowhere.

Didnt see most of this lot at places like Mansfield, Accrington, Darlington, Scunthorpe, Histon, Peterborough etc. when the coach borke down on a Tuesday night, Boston... the list goes on and on.

I don't begrudge people going to Wembley at all but to say "shut up, we are better than you because we are going to Wembley" when most of the people going probably haven't shown an interest in STFC in many years when myself and Hertha among many others have spent thousands watching this club up and down the country, is a right fucking insult when you know damn well who the fans are that have been there when we have been complete and utter shit from the Andy King/Iffy era and before that.

I don't begrudge people going to Wembley at all but to say "shut up, we are better than you because we are going to Wembley" when myself and Hertha has spent thousands watching this club up and down the country, is a right fucking insult when you know damn well who the fans are that have been there when we have been complete and utter shit from the Andy King/Iffy era and before that.

Think Dave was doing a bit of a  :fishing: to you and Herthab, Gary. And it worked in spectaular fashion 8)

Anywhoo, as I said, I've ranted, I've e-mailed Nick Watkins and it's clearly not going to change..so onwards and upwards.

Oh do fuck off the pair of you with your patronising fucking posts !

Political correctness ?  I will never, ever understand ?

For fucks sake !

Halifax on a friday night - Darlington in the pissing rain - more shitholes than I care to remember...

More sad days and nights supporting them over 30 odd years....

I do fucking understand !

I also know we are RED....

But I can't get worked up about a kit colour for one game when it is the manager and players who have asked to play in white....

After all we have fucking been through - it just doesn't seem too important to me...

As long as we don't play in yellow and blue then I couldn't give a monkeys tbh. If the players want to wear white, because they're happier/feel more confident/superstitious whatever the reason, then let them get on with it.

It's a tad amusing that the only thing we have to whinge about - across 18 pages - at the end of a season is what colour Swindon will be wearing at Wembely. What a difference 2 years makes.

Oh I know he was fishing. I am sure people who can't make it, would if they could. I looked at flights back from Spain for the match £220.00 was the cheapest I could find and I dont have that kind of money knocking about and a match ticket on top now so over £300.00 plus my spending money for holiday etc having already shelled out £450.00 to go as well so... I'll find a bar wear my Town shirt with pride and cheer us on like many others will.

Using Dan's logic,  I look forward to seeing 24,500 season ticket holders next season (or is that 14,000 and a waiting list??) and a packed County Ground full of loyal Town fans as well as all our away allocations sold out because they are all such loyal supporters.!!

Administration, relegation, Bankruptcy, winding up orders, etc. etc. The board turn it all around and we get to Wembley and we STILL fucking complain about the colour shirt we are wearing. Jesus Wept!

Think the fact that I'm totally fucked off to be missing the game and am not looking forward to my first holiday abroad in 19 years might have something to do with my reaction (Even though I knew you were fishing!).

Me too, In most instances to be honest people would take the piss but most people have had sympathy to be fair and are gutted for me. I tried to say "ah well if the end of this season is seeing us get to the playoff and the celebrations after the game at Charlton is my last memory of this season then what a great way to go away" but in truth. I am absolutely gutted and getting offered free tickets as well which I had to give away was an absolute kick in the balls. All the euphoria leading up to next weekend is getting to me a bit and I've tried to ignore it. Honestly as I cant go, I fly out Tuesday I'll be glad I am not in Town to hear about it!

if our kit clashed with millwall's, and we lost the toss then we would all be fine about it.
it doesn't, so is wrong to change from our red kit.not the end of the world, but a piss poor decision nonetheless.
ironic when the club are flogging a load of red scarfs, flags, and other matchday goodies.

i dont care enough to e-mail watkins.he doesn't need to respond to any of the e-mails.just change the stupid decision and play in the kit we should be in.

Tradition and identity. It was wrong for Fulham and even more wrong for this game. It doesn't make a whit of difference to the result, but it is part of our identity, part of what is Swindon Town. I assume you'd be quite happy for us to play in yellow at home and black and white stripes away next season? Because if it doesn't matter for this game, our biggest in 16 years, then it just doesn't matter at all.

Traditionally we play in white at Wembley if the players want to.  ;D

Changing our home colours would be different, this is a one off game away from the County Ground. The identity of the club is much more about the fans than the players, and most of the fans, including me, will be in red.

Look, Ive already said I'd prefer us to play in red, but put yourself in Watkins shoes. The manager and players who have just got us to within one game of promotion want to play in white, are you going to say no? More likely you are going to let them have pretty much whatever they want.

If the players/manager really did say they didn't want to play in red, that's a bit of insult to the club and fans really isn't it? I can't imagine Celtic players saying they didn't want to play in green and white hoops, or Barca players saying they didn't want to play in blue and red stripes!

Quote from: watty
“Danny had a conversation with the players and they decided on this kit. It is as simple as that.

“Remember that we lost to Millwall a couple of weeks ago wearing red. And also, we won in 1969 at Wembley wearing white.

“If we win this time, nobody will care what colour we are in.

“But most importantly, let’s just all get behind the team, whatever colour we are in, and then let’s go out and paint the town red afterwards.”

Change the fucking sponsor on the red shirt if that is the issue.

I was moaning about other clubs doing this last season, but I have NEVER EVER seen any other club do this. So fucking pissed off. The FA should never have allowed it either.

Personally it dosnt bother me one jot...but i can understand peoples reactions...but lets get this straight, the PLAYERS wanted this not the club, the club made a statement to the Adver saying that money or sponsors had nothing to do with the decision and it was entirely the players choice..so if that is to be the truth lets stop slagging the club off.
It is a strange decision by the players but i say its been done now and we need to accept it and move on.

I will defend the those against the decision (as I lean that way too) due to  RED being our traditional colours but the "gravity of the decision" ? I'm not having a go because (as I've said) I do agree but it's really not worth spending the week discussing is it?

Danny Wilson dropping Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter for Pericard and Nouble would be THAT controversial... But this? N'ah, we'll get over it.

Coz that's not a fucking massive over reaction is it ?!?!?

The management team obviously asked the players what they would prefer and they told them.....

Ultimately the directors could have overruled that decision if they saw it as worthwhile - but I guess they see next Saturday as a bigger opportunity than what fucking colour shirts we are wearing !

As is over 200 members on Samdy's protest Facebook group in less than 24 hours (around 30% of what the club have managed to attract to the "official" Fill the CG group in several months).

Spencer's right - we (largely) didn't say anything about blue at Fulham so we let the chance go.

Not happy but as Rich P says, I'm not going to let it dominate the week - they're clearly not going to change it, so we may as well focus on enjoying the build-up, getting behind the players etc. But they'd better fucking win in it.

So the song for the day perhaps?

From Wikipedia:

The song "The Red Flag"
The song "The Red Flag" was written by Irishman Jim Connell in 1889. It is normally sung to the tune of "Lauriger Horatius", better known as the German carol "O Tannenbaum", though Connell had wanted it sung to the tune of a pro-Jacobite Robert Burns anthem, "The White Cockade". The lyrics of the first verse and the chorus, which are the most well-known parts of the song, are as follows:

The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyr'd dead
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.
Then raise the scarlet standard high,
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Then be pissed off at the directors for asking the question ?!?

I am sure they didn't ask it thinking it would cause this much of a fuss....

The fact remains that if the players are more comfortable in White - whether that be for daft superstitious reasons or whatever - then I for one would rather that than them going onto the pitch with something (even slightly) negative in their heads.....

Tradition is important - of course it is....

But we played in White in '69 - England have a better record in Red than in White, and I like seeing England in Red - as do the majority of fans - but we don't start questioning the England management for their decisions about it.....

I wont accept it until they walk out of the tunnel at Wembley.

Obviously if they do it will spoil it for me that little bit.

All I can say its one massive kick in the teeth for all you shirters. All this 'turn up in red and where the same clothes because the team where red', well now you know what it means to the players. Fuck all.

they have played in red all season, the training kit is red, swindon town are red and white and that is how it should remain.

the ridiculous decsion should be overturned immediately

In your opinion of course....

OH fuck off with this means nothing to the players bullshit.

You think they sweated blood to make sure we are where are on Monday night because they don't give a shit. Get a fucking grip.

I hate this too, I've DREAMED of seeing us play at Wembley, so to see us not come out in red is going to tarnish that. But if the players, like has been said, for some superstitious reason, want to wear the away kit, away from CG then fine. We've let it be known that we ain't happy about it, perhaps they'll think twice before doing the same thing again.

When I said "'turn up in red and where the same clothes because the team where red', well now you know what it means to the players. Fuck all."

I was talking about the futility in wearing club colours. Or away kits. Ultimately this is the monster we have created, where a team isnt even allowed have a colour as part of its indentity at a showpiece final.

Again, a rediculous argument.

The FA do not change from white kits in competitive matches unless they have to.

Probably because they are not allowed to. Probably because the colours of international kits are part of the identity and football history of that nation.

Title: Re: White Kit
Post by: sheepshagger on Saturday, May 22, 2010, 12:35:30
Well if you take that argument further then fucking White is part of our tradition - it's what we played in when we had the biggest day in our history !

Why would the board choose to play in White if the players (as stated by the club - the same club who haven't felt the need to lie to the fans before) hadn't requested it ?

Sponsorship - really ?  That argument simply doesn't stack up - the sponsors logo's are the same on both shirts (albeit reversed)....

The club have no shirts to sell - Red, White or bloody Blue !  They have sold out....

They could have had a whole bunch of them made to cash in on Wembley - but rightly have chosen not to as their will be a new kit next season and the board do not want to rip the fans off....

Your argument just doesn't stack up.....

Title: Re: White Kit
Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, May 22, 2010, 12:49:08
I dont think this decision was to sell shirts. I think it was to get EA sports more coverage on TV.

As Ive said time and time again, the players took on the blue shirt as soon as it was available because they preferred it to the white one. So why would they go back for Wembley?

As for 1966, that was because the Germans were playing in white. With England the red and white is second nature because of the flag. White with blue trim doesnt mean anything to us, its just a reserve shirt we should have incase we need to change. The white shirt was still our first choice for the 1990 semi final, and the 5-1 game in 2001.

How many times, why would the players chose the blue shirt all season, then chose the white one for the final? How many times? I'll just copy and paste it if you want?

Sorry Paul - go back a page.....

Spence was certainly making the point that this is all about sponsorship and it also goes against our tradition....

I was pointing out that I don't agree with this - it's all about opinion.....

I do understand why people want us to wear Red - I would prefer it of course !

I just think White does go with our tradition - and yeah of course it would be better completely plain or even maybe with Red trim, but the shirt is predominantly the same colour as we wore in '69 ......

Maybe Spence they would choose White as we are unbeaten in it this season ?  It might be as simple as that ?

It wasn't the Club that thought "Ooo what colour shall we wear?", it was prompted by the Football League needing to know (for whatever reasons) weeks ago.

Football has been going down these new little paths for a considerable time now, & personally I'm acclimatised to it. That's why I've not given it much thought beyond "That's a pity, but if the players chose it that'll do for me". We can win or lose in red, we can win or lose in white. It would only become a proper issue with me if the design of the home kit was fucked about with too much - now THAT would be messing with tradition.

(BTW I want to see us return to red shirts/white shorts/red socks. Only because that's what we wore when I started watching Town in 77.)

I would guess that is not too far away from what happened. I don't suppose a delegation of players went knocking on Nick Watkins' door demanding to play in white and I guess we will never know the real reason for it.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if it was white with RED trim.

I'm struggling to understand that as well. How can it be decided weeks in advance who wears what? Millwall could have decided they would play in all white as well (that's more traditional for them than us, as that was their regular home kit for a few years in the 70's) Then what would they have done?..it's all bollocks.

Agreed (hence my 'for whatever reason'). Although that's maybe 1 of the reasons why they needed so much notice, so they could sort out any disputes. It's things like Sky doing their pre-match bits & pieces. But mainly, I suspect, some over-paid corporate kiss-arse needing to be seen to be buzzing around trying to justify his/her salary.

Have to admit Ive been unable to stop thinking about it as well.

We do have a poor away record in red against teams in blue this season. Gills, Rovers, Southend, Colchester, Millwall. But recently we did get a good win against Hartlepool, and we got some luck there. I do know for a fact that there was NO Swindon players meeting to discuss this.

I do wonder if it was Danny Wilson. Because when he was City manager they lost in the play offs to Cardiff (blue) and then Brighton (white and blue). But he's never struck me as the superstitious type? Not like Andy King who was always banging on about luck. It would also show a massive mental weakness to the players, because we should be thinking we are good enough to beat Millwall anyway.

Wilson would also have had to have decided on white before the play offs, which again, I think is unlikely because I dont think he would have given it a second thought. Surely hes intelligent enough to know we play in red and you cant afford to have hang ups about the colour of our shirts?

Which still leaves me to think it was a corporate board decision based around EA Sports.

Basically the board should either come out and tell us the truth (because I dont think the fans will forget about it) or they should plead with the FL to allow us to play in red. Fast.

I do think that we are not getting the full story, which is now more of a concern to me than the fact we will be playing in white.

Anyway, we wont change it, Watkins has already said that, so lets just enjoy our day at Wembley, get behind the boys and hopefully we will all love that stupid white kit come 5pm next Saturday!

Agree there. I think we should just all let it settle now. FFS we're playing a play-off final at Wembley next week and we've got some people on here moaning about a fucking kit. Yes it is dissapointing but oh well. On to Wembley way.

Im going to let it settle for a week, and then start moaning about it again!

Because they said before the Fulham game that if we progressed we would use the blue strip for all FA Cup games that season, home and away. Which wasnt right either.

Fingers crossed that next season they can come up with just 1 away kit that will do all our kit changes. When they had to make that third kit for Wrexham it just seemed to put all these unstoppable wheels in motion at great expense to the club.

The Football League/FA need to take a lead on this as well. They should have said, you will use your club colours at Wembley and thats it.

Having 3 kits brings in more cash for the club. People have the choice if they buy one or not.

How anyone can moan about us having 3 kits, each with different top brand sponsor is beyond me.

Its not like our fanbase is bringing the required revenue that a club needs to try and establish CCC football is it! The board are working wonders with sponsorship for the club.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with having three kits. The problem lies in pointlessly changing the strip, and to do it for a game at the County Ground would be absolutely, totally wrong.

Because once youve made it, produced it, then your under pressure to use it. Especially if its got different sponsors on it. And that will be at the expense of our club colours.

Im not going to make an excuse for being passionate about something other than money.

If and when it happens it will be the same people making the same excuses.

Like I said, if we had beaten Fulham then it would have happened this year. Also happened when we let McDons play in Red at the CG on the anniversary of the League Cup final, so that we could play in one of the worst Swindon kits I have ever seen. We werent so bothered about playing in white that day either?

Correct.

We don't need to conspire or run a fine tooth combe through this decision. I believe we should wear our home colours whenever appropriate (I also recall a thread bemoaning Norwich's decision to wear White at the CG) but we've got far more exciting/interesting things to discuss.

My last comment on this:

I'm surprised the club haven't done a U turn on turn on the kit selection yet. I honestly thought they would.

The 'Ive had loads of emails and messages from fans about it, but I'm not changing my fucking mind' quote from Watkins in the Adver over the weekend was plain fucking ignorant.

As others have said, I cant understand the logic of asking DW and the players which kit they wanted to play in. Why the fuck would that question even enter their heads unless commercial reasons prevailed? Does Watkins think we're just ignorant cunts who can be bullshitted to on a whim?

I'm not going to let this shit spoil what has been a great season for us, nor am I going to let it taint the ace progress we've made off the field since Fitton and the board took us over.

Things like this have a habit of opening up divisions where none existed before, though. Watkins' bollocks have been exposed to a mild kicking over this and he's been found wanting with what I consider to be his shallow, bollocks excuse for putting a team out at Wembley in the wrong colour kit.

The kit colour wont make a fuck of difference to the result on Saturday, but it leaves an aftertaste and contention amonst fans in the run up to what should be our finest hour in nearly 20 years. None of us needed or expected that.

I hope the bloke learns from this event.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but maybe the players want to wear white because if its a hot day then they will be less affected by the heat.

Millwall in blue vs us in white = Millwall become too hot too quickly and run out of steam early on = we get a last minute goal to win, for a change.

Don't think it's been mentioned yet but blackpool's reasoning for wearing their white kit was that they were designated as the 'away' team following a coin toss, even though there would be no clash with either leicester or cardiff. i'm fed up with the kit colour being mentioned and all the squabbling about it too.
but the fact remains that if the club didn't decide to change our kit for no good reason, the debate would never have occurred.

OK...time to dig this old chestnut up again...

Now before I say anything else I would not suggest in a million years that wearing white had anything to do with losing. We were shit, end of. We could have been wearing red, white, blue or sky blue pink. A piss poor performance is a piss poor performance whatever kit you're wearing.

HOWEVER..having moaned like fuck when the decison was made to wear white, I stand by every word of what I said. That looked shit today. It just did not look right. It was really disappointing seeing the boys come out on to the pitch today in white rather than red, even though I was expecting it.

A lot of people have said, "Ooooh, I couldn't care less if we wear white or pink or green and yellow squares...etc...etc" but I tell you now, I don't understand you. That just looked crap today. History, tradition, chucked out the window.

And if we had won, I would have still thought exactly the same thing.

Yes I know, I'm like a fucking stuck record...tough.

totally agree OSt, Didn't make a jot of difference to winning or losing, just as red wouldn't. So why change it.

But Id like to think the lesson has be learnt, and should we be fortunate enough to be in the same position again we will be wearing red.

I think next time round (which will happen unless we get auto), we as fans should have the nous to be pre-emptive and MAKE SURE that the decision is red way before we get that close again.

Well at least IF we do get to Wembley again, they can't wheel out the old 'Ooooh, well it was good enough for the boys of '69' cos we can Top Trump that with '2010 - totally gash'

Next time, if there is one, I think we would wear red (colour clashes notwithstanding)

I would like to think that Nick Watkins thought today, "Mmmmm, that does actually look a bit crap..I made a mistake there"

Cos it really, really did not look right. I can't believe anyone really thought it did ::)

I wasn't one of couldn't care less brigade, I was bothered and e-mailed Nick Watkins to register my distress.  However, I pushed it to the back of mind over the last few days, but as soon as they came on to the pitch - IT WAS SO WRONG!  Would also like to point out to those of you that don't know, the team didn't travel on the normal Four Four Two sponsored coach.  You know, the one they've used all season?!  Oh no, it was a bloody Barnes coach with a board in saying Swindon Town Team Coach.  Obviously again to do with the EA being sponsors today.  Absolute joke!

Yes I do but you know that 90% of us preferred to see us in red, regardless of their 'give a damn' pre-match stance.

The other 10% were those who went and were not aware that we played in red!

I was a bit pissed off when I found out, but at the end of the day didn't feel it was something worth going mental about.

When the players came out in white, it reinforced that feeling and felt a bit wrong, but again, it was a fairly minor point in the day.

Not something worth writing a manifesto over.

And whilst I'm upset about today, the whole white kit fiasco would be misdirected anger right now.

Not happy but as Rich P says, I'm not going to let it dominate the week - they're clearly not going to change it, so we may as well focus on enjoying the build-up, getting behind the players etc. But they'd better fucking win in it.
And they didn't. So no more of this pissing about with shirt colours please. We play in red unless a change is forced on us by clashing with the opposition's colours. I know the shirt colour made absolutely no difference to the abject performance yesterday, but that was supposed to be the point, wasn't it? That whether due to superstition/some bollocks about the heat the players wanted to play in white because it would help them. Well it clearly didn't, as they totally failed to turn up. After that, I don't ever again want to hear that the players have some right of veto over our identity.

OK, before I go any further, we lost because we were not good enough...but...

The pitch was a joke, cost Austin a goal and us a way back into the game.
The ticketing for the semi finals was not good, but the board have learned the lessons of previous errors (like Malpas) and I fully expect them to learn from this one too.
The decision to play in white was a joke.  If the players prefer to play in white, let them join Milton Keynes.  The decision created unnecessary problems that could easily have been avoided, by wearing red, of course.  The team looked wrong all game in the white kit.  I hope the board learn from this mistake also.

I need to finish this post by saying the board are generally superb, what they have achieved so far, are currently achieving and will achieve in future makes me proud to be a Town fan.  The management and players also, and I thank them for all their efforts over the season and am looking forward to next year with renewed confidence.  Thank you one and all (except Hutchinson).

Just play in red next time, OK.

No-one's said that. Don't be silly.

I should add, for balance, that the players would be just as entitled to point the finger at us and in private probably are. Because they're entitled to expect support from the supporters to lift them when they need it. They got it at Charlton, they didn't get it yesterday. Difference is we can rant about it on forums etc whereas if the players or Danny Wilson come out and say "The fans let us down", they'll get slated. There are reasons for it which have been discussed elsewhere so no point going over it all again here but when push comes to shove, we let them down too.

Have to say the fans were very poor yesterday. But most of our chants involve 'Reds' and the kit decision robbed us of our battle cry - the Come on you reds' we could have evened it up a bit more with that chant.

Dont get me wrong, Millwall were better than us and deserved to win. They dominated us, on and off the pitch. But why did we have to go into it looking like the away team? That was the mindset they wanted us to have.

Anyway, Im still pissed off about it. I still think its an issue because I dont quite know how they players could feel they could be so disrespectful as to bin our club colours for this game (you know that colour we sing about, the shirt were passionate about).
