Unfortunatly I feel it will be a 3-1 defeat in extra time with us taking an early lead getting our hopes up.

The first goal will be key.  If we get it, puts them under massive pressure.  As the second goal showed on Friday, we can hit them on the counter-attack...so the more they need to push forward, the better.  If they get the first goal, I hope it's not too early on.  We have the advantage right now.  It's a slim one, but an advantage all the same.  Charlton will be acutely aware this morning that a draw is good enough for us.

I'd be tempted to bring Paynter back in if fit. Ward and Austin were great on Monday but tonight will be a different game. If Ward is out wide he still provides the counter-attacking threat, and having Paynter will help when we inevitably end up playing long-ball for periods of the game

Absolutely right.  The longer they go without scoring, the jumpier they (and their fans) will get and the more we will be able to dictate the game.  We need to frustrate them right from the off and avoid conceding an early goal.

Magic i wouldn't agree that you were the far better side, second half I would honestly say we were the better team in terms of possession. However, we do lack that cutting edge when on the other hand you lot certainly have that in abundance. I just fear that while we could be chasing the game for long periods of the game, your very quick on the break and were vulnerable at the back, as you saw on Friday. One thing is for sure, it will not be a bore draw, this has definitely got goals in it!

Austin is obviously class and destined for Prem in the future but i do actually think Ward was more impressive. A mate of mine from Uni is a Bolton season ticket holder and he has adopted Swindon as his second team over the course of the season due to your link with Ward. He is much bigger and stronger than i thought he would be and coincidentally he doesnt lack pace. Was very impressed with him on Friday and im sure we will have to double up on him tonight if we are to progress!

Hoping my good memories of the place will still be intact at 2230 tonight

I'm repeating myself here I know, but I wasn't confident about tonight at all. Then Lucas went off, Smith fucked up the cross for the goal, we went down another one and Greer stupidly got himself sent off; just as things looked as if they were starting to go our way a bit.

Then our goal went in, and it was a minute of hapiness, followed by remembering that earlier on today I'd thought we'd lose 3-1.

Still pessamistic.

Charlie Austin through on goal and their man gets rightfully sent off. Things felt really level for the first time in the match. But at the same time I was wondering if the Charlton player had done the right thing. Would Austin have gone on to score from that chance. Maybe that was our chance.

Extra time, extra time. I think at that point it was penalties all the way. Still more than a few shitting it moments.

I didn't know what to expect on penalties. We were minus Paynter who's taken them all season, but the scene was set for Smith to redeem himself. Neither were factors at the end of the day, but god I hate living through that shit.

In an odd way Greer getting sent off helped us a lot. It  meant JFL went to centre back where he peformed about a million times better than he had at left back.

Amankwaah added something going forward. JPM looked a lot better in the middle and Charlton didn't know where Ward was playing...

Its galvanised us and we raised our game. We've not had that sort of spirit for years.

I love nights like this, they don't happen very often.

Got back home a short while ago.  Quite simply one of the best nights in years I've had as a Town fan.  Everyone who was there will remember it.  Didn't look good at one stage, but we didn't give up...players & fans alike.

Nearly two hours later and I'm still buzzing.  Chances of getting to sleep any time soon are slim.

i've been a swindon fan since i was old enough to understand what football was. I dont think i have ever been as proud of my team and our fans as i am tonight. WE were fucking immense, see you all at Wembley!!!!

Had a shiver every time Town songs blasted through on the tele. Charlton's were decent for half an hour then it was all Town vocally.

Really hasn't sunk it yet but i'm pissed as a fart. Can't stop smiling. Had a wander outside to see Town fans dancing on the magic roundabout. Special evening.

Just got in, banging head, sore throat and drained off all emotion.  Who gives a fuck - WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too tired to analyse the game in detail, but a few things:

The support for Swindon tonight was absolutely superb and I was proud to be a part of it.
Charlton can't play football and their support was shite.  The referee was a joke.
When Greer got sent off (couldn't really see it, so can't comment until I've seen a replay, altho my brother who watched it on TV says it was deserved?), I genuinely thought we were dead and buried as did the majority of people around me.  Just goes to show what I know!
With all the odds stacked against us from the minute Lucas went off, we battled and never gave up. I love each and everyone of you that wore the blue shirt tonight with all my heart.

Against all odds, somehow, we've done it. What a great night. The whole team were awesome, but special mentions to Smith who came in and did a superb job; McGovern, who never stopped running and was a class above when he moved inside later in the game and Darby for having the balls to step up and take that last penalty.

Brilliant support tonight, must've looked like right nut-jobs with the flares at the end.  :D

I think it's a bit more simple than that mate, I think it helped cos Greer was all over the place and generally a bit crap. I think GG could be my new O'Hanlon, I fucking love the rest of the side and need someone who everyone else bums to pick out for the DMR treatment.

Not long been back. Been through all the motions tonight and for that reason i'd class it as the best game of football i've ever seen live. Amazing. I must confess i'd given up at half time. Thought that at 2-0 we'd blown it and it got worse when Greer went off. I felt so deflated. We stuck at it though and always kept believing. Got a little lucky with the goal but overall in the tie we deserved to force ET. When Charlie was through at the end of normal time I thought he was going to score. Deffo a sending off and I think their lad knew it.

I managed to watch all of ET. Don't know how but I did. Got the feeling it was going to be our night as they hit the post and missed a sitter in the 2nd half of ET. Then penalties. I was consigned to defeat but couldn't believe Bailey did a Beckham. Classic moment. Then we go and score all 5 of ours. Magnifico! What an amazing feeling espeically after Brighton in 04. Great night and great to be there.

Onto Wembley. The lads have done us proud. Greer will not play but for the record he has been superb this season. Feel for him but i'm sure he'll survive if we go up. Oh and word for Phil Smith. How fucking good was he tonight when he came on for Lucas? Superb. Never been prouder as an STFC fan as I am tonight tbh.

Just got in - would have been earlier except for the 30-40 minutes dancing, singing, celebrating inside and outside the ground. What a fucking night. You couldn't have scripted it:
1st choice keeper out to injury in first couple of minutes
Ref even more "under orders" than on Friday
Go two goals down, second just before half time
Captain gets sent off leaving an already pretty tired looking remaining 10 to work their nuts off even more
At this point, it seems like it should just be "Let's try and keep the score respectable" but, no, no-one ever gave up, not the players, not the fans.
And to win like that, in that way, after Brighton and Barnet, just fucking amazing.

Austin, Ward and Darby must have balls the size of tractor tyres the way they kept their cool for the pens.

Dancing around in the away end long after most home fans had left, red smoke bombs going off, singing "Que Sera, Sera" is a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life and will always raise a smile, no matter how shit I'm feeling.

Our keepers injured, Smith flapped and Ferry scored an own goal. Derby missed a tackle and we go 2-0 down, away, at the valley. Greer loses his head, and sees read.  Our leading scorer is not firing on all cylinders. We were dead and buried with the only thing to cling on to is the fact one Town goal would change the tie again, but it might as well be 100 we are playing that badly.

What happened next?

The way we dug in and fought for it was immense. Sure we had a bit of luck on the night, but that balances against the goals we should have scored on Friday.

Have to say Smith had a superb second half, and all the lads handled the pressure of the penalty shootout with far more composure than I did!

Shame I can't be there, but at least I can say I was at the Valley for one of the most exciting, tense games I've ever witnessed.

When the whistle went after 120 mins, I knew I had to do what I did at Wembley for Bodin's penalty in 1993...turned my back.  I spent the next 10 minutes looking backwards and listening to a kick by kick commentary from the lads around me.  It seemed to work.  Apparently, Amankwaah's was the best kick of the night.

Best of ours, yes. Although it was the only one their keeper got near to.

Richardson's was probably the best of the lot. Blasted into the top corner.

Good to see you last night old bean. I couldn't believe you were actually going to do that. Of course, you know what you need to do at Wembley if a similar situation should present itself... 

Totally fantastic night, atmosphere was superb, you do get the impression that their sending off was deliberate that he was taking one for the team to take that risk, Charlie was out on his feet along wiht most others but they found that energy to keep it going and for it to be the younger lads that step up to take the penalties I think shows the spirit and work ethic in the team.

Got to be honest, I didnt enjoy that game. Unlike the home tie, which was a fantastic game. When Greer got sent off I really thought that it was over. When Ward scored I just thought it was going to be some other scheme to deny us in an even crueler (sp?) way.

The 15 minutes in the ground after the penalties were fantastic.

Ive got to say the lads were fantastic with the penalties. They looked like they had so much confidence and desire.

Just got into work after sitting for hours in tailback caused by M4 closure and realised I spent longer in traffic than I did in bed last night. Don't care cos I'm still delirious from last night, but I've got my annual review in 10 minutes. Already warned my boss not to expect a coherent word out of me. It could be messy :D

Well this is my first opportunity to comment on last night and I'd like to echo pretty much what has already been said about a truly superb night being a Town supporter. All the players rightly deserve the praise and were monsters last night. MOTM was a tossup between Smithy and JPM for me but you couldn't rule any of them out (special mention also to Cuthbert who after Greer went was never going to let anyone get past him). The support was superb all the way there (and back to Didcot taxi metropolis...bit OTT from the Old Bill regarding numbers at Didcot! We should have stayed on the train to have a sing song at Scumville)). The joy reminded me of the Leicester play off. We never gave up and the celebrations at the end will be cherished memories for years to come. But even if we hadn't made the play offs, to AF and crew, DW his backroom team and the players I cannot thank you enough for a blinding season and the sheer pleasure of having a team to follow that play quality football....it's been a long time ! It's my birthday today and It f**kin feels like it ! can't stop smiling.

Last night was the perfect football match. It's matches like that that remind us why we love football. Every emotion gets a kicking from every angle and afterwards you've nothing left. I loved that.

First chance to get on here since the game. Got in a 1:00 a.m. and was up at 5:45 for work- didn't get a lot of sleep cos I was sooooo psyched :D

The crowd was brilliant.

The performance of the team was far from polished but I think it was all the better because of that. Every man that got on the filed played their hearts out. Smithy really pulled it out of the bag after the goal (yes he did flap and miss and yes Ferry fucked up his clearance but that's football). LJF had a mare till Greer got sent off then he pulled it out of the bag. O'Brien could have done more with the final ball but he ran his bollocks off, even after I thought he was knackered with another injury. Charlie ran himself into the ground again. Ward did the business again, right when we needed him to. Douglas was awesome. Cuthbert was not going to let anyone from Charlton have it their way. Paynter wasn't 100% but still got the best header of the game in. JP had moments where he was untouchable. Ferry took the OG on the chin like a man and then did everything he could to make amends. Manks made things steadier at the back and got the goal celebration award for the night. As for Darby. That was real cojones, stepping up for the last penalty :clap:

As for the ref- a Charlton Athletic Supporters Club card carrying cunt.

Did I mention the crowd? We were difference I think. Charlton were very quiete compared to us. I still can't talk properly, my throat is killing me and my ears ares till ringing slightly.

I know its often said, but I do think our crowd made a difference, especially in the first leg.

The enthusiasm for the goals at our place was something Charlton simply couldnt match on their patch, and we gave the lads a fantastic send off after that game. There were some in the media saying 'look at those fools, they think they are at Wembley already', but youve got to show the players what it means.

Basically we wanted it more. On and off the field.

One thing about reading this thread earlier on that struck me- even though I was there and knew the result, I felt every bit as anxious or elated elated as I did last night, depending on which bit of update I was reading. We won FFS but when I read about the two goals against, Lucas's injury, Greers sending off I was shitting myself again.

We have seen some cracking games this season to be honest but last night shades it for me.

Started off from Didcot early afternoon with the lads and it had the memories of Arsenal away (79 -80). Made our way to a pub and met up with a few more Town fans and then the nerves started to kick in.
Lucas injured, 2-0 down and then 10 men. What chance did we have ?

Those lads gave their all last night. JPM urging the crowd on at every opportunity. Both teams kept on going right to the bitter end. Then memories of Brighton entered my head and I thought surely not this time. Once again with luck against us the penalties were in the Charlton end.

.........but we did it against all the odds. People kissing, hugging, screaming this is what makes football. F**k the late train it can wait. Tonight is for us Supporters, Players and Club putting aside years of abuse and misery.

Got to Paddington but lucky for me my car was at Didcot to make the 50 mile drive north of Banbury. I went up to this young lad on the station  and said to him remember this, as I have Arsenal away all of those years ago.

Home at 2.30am could not sleep. High on adrenalin and pride.

"oh fuck fuck fuck, what do we do? we're sunk! fuck fuck fuck"...and so on...I was reeling..and yet there was DW in the middle of it, reorganizing, keeping everyone calm and generally keeping everything together. Some teams would have fallen apart and conceded another 2 or 3. But the boys kept their heads and kept going. Massive, massive respect to all concerned.

Sure the club will release something, astute as they are. About time they started releasing the older ones that are on VHS only also.

Morning Posh. Any chance you could run off another copy of the first leg as long as I cover all costs. I have Monday night's match on the Sky+ awaiting transfer to DVD, but I had to rely on someone else to record the first leg for me and they've already deleted it. I'd be forever in your debt, sir.

I wouldn't mind sorting out an online upload/doing copies for people in Swindon at cost. I can get dual layer dvds for under a quid each.

When i get my copy, i'll rip it and do a couple of different quality files, then split them as .rars and bosh them on mediafire or somewhere. I can also run something off on disk for you if you wish.

I got someone to record the 1st leg in HD and the 2nd leg is also in HD but it was a repeat and it skipped a lot of the game unfortunately, Obviously not the main parts but a lot of the rest don't know why Sky didn't repeat the whole game, It was on at 1.30am on Monday night.

i have them both on HD but have no idea how to get them to DVD or anything

I have them both sky+ed, a dvd recorder and some blank disks.

The actual doing is the bit I'm not sure of.

Connect Sky box to DVD recorder.

Tune DVD recorder to Sky box.

Press play on Sky box.

Press record on DVD recorder.

Haha, unfortunately not. With our result in the final, my desire to watch the build up again was much reduced and I gave the DVD to Si Pie.

Will see my fellow season ticket holders around me tomo. Against Charlton I was fucking wasted and grabbing a load of them (n0t in A gh3y sh1t way) and messing their hair up - hopefully they dont remember

Heh fair do's. The only bit from those 3 games I want to hear again, is Martin Tylers commentary leading up to Wards goal in the home leg. That and I'd love to see Wardys goal in the 2nd again! Thinking about the feeling I got from that is still amazing.
