Pools 1 - Town 3 feeling optimistic.....mainly as our defence has been pretty strong of late.

Oh, and I'd like to see Monkhouse brought down a peg or two after celebrating his goal like it was the fa cup final winner...

1-2 to the Swindon Town.

I have a bad feeling, but that's good because I'm usually wrong. Unless knowing I'm wrong means I'll be wrong about being wrong. Right?

Any win today is a good result. A draw will seem like a huge let down, simply because we're now within touching distance of Leeds. Hopefully we can nick it but it won't be easy.

I hate it when people come out with this sort of logic. That's like when we were on our unbeaten run and about to play stockport and people were like "stockport haven't won in ages so they'll win" or something.  ::)

Monkhouse "very uncomfortable" with an injury - hope it finishes his career. He's nearly started 2 riots at the CG (after scoring) for absolutely no reason whatsoever. It's not like we ever gave him major abuse, he's not worth it. Maybe that's why he wanted to start something, his pride was hurt.

I have never cheered another team's goal like I cheered when Norwich scored. And Wycombe have just equalised against Col U. And Charlton and Udders are drawing!

A big 3 points and the so-called big-boys just cannot shake us off. It's not just Austin's goals, how many points has he won us?! He scores crucial goals. Quality aswell as quantity.

Very happy YET AGAIN.

"With twenty minutes on the clock, Pools' fortunes took two big knocks - firstly the lively and determined Andy Monkhouse was injured in a collision with a photographer on the touchline.

The former Swindon Town man suffered a cut to his knee which then forced him from out of the game.

Just minutes after the incident involving Monkhouse, Pools went a goal down as Charlie Austin struck home.

And there was more poor defending to blame as Austin was allowed far too much space inside the area to pick his spot and shoot low past Flinders."

From Wiki, Becchio:

Becchio was substituted early on in the first half against Norwich City after being knocked unconscious after Michael Nelson kicked him in the head. Becchio's head also landed heavily on the ground. He was substituted by Mike Grella.

Also from Wiki, Austin:

On 20 October, prior to a reserve team match between Swindon and Plymouth Argyle, Head of Player Development David Byrne revealed in an interview that he believed Charlie Austin would soon get his chance in the Swindon first team.[6] Austin then went on that afternoon to score two goals for Swindon reserves in the 3–2 victory over Plymouth Argyle's reserves.[7] Austin made his Football League debut coming on in the 70th minute in the league match away at Norwich City on 24 October 2009. On 21 November 2009, Austin scored his first professional goal in only the third minute of his full debut away at Carlisle United.[8]  Jamie's Future Wife wants to have his babies.

Hartlepool supporters' view, with rumours that Turner is going to get a vote of confidence next week.

I have never joined the chorus for Turner's head but after that he really needs to take a look at himself. Let's hope he heard the "Turner out" chants and walks soon. At least Keith Houchen was intelligent enough to understand that he had lost suppoerters completely. I wonder with Chris, is he so arrogant that he believes the twaddle he trots out on Radio Tees?
My view of today's efforts:
FLINDERS. just how many times in one game can a goalkeeper hoof a planned clearance onto the stand roof? not many times more than Scott!
McSWEENEY. Started well, bags of pace tried to play football throughout and therefore cut a lonely figure. His main problem is that he isn't a full back.
COLLINS. Truly woeful, given a torrid time by both their strikers and most of their midfield. Rivalled Flinders for hoofing the ball of the pitch
CLARK. No confidence, no skill and on today's evidence no ability either. A centre back pairing to give anyone nightmares.
AUSTIN. Strangely subdued and caught up in the maze of ineptitude and mediocrity.
JONES. One of the worst midfield displays ever witnessed in a Pools shirt. He reminded me of David Clegg today.
SWEENEY. At least he never gives up but that's about all you could say
GAMBLE. So much for the new Jan Ove. Displayed hitherto unseen inability to tackle or pass the ball to anyone in a blue shirt
HUMPREYS. On the day our best player, ran and passed all afternoon with precious little support
MONKHOUSE. no comment
O'DONOVAN. Absolutely desperate. Gordon Greer will never have an easier afternoon. The Irish League beckons
BROWN. Never put a foot right all afternoon. Seemed about as interested as Aston Villas back four.

It does greive me to be so negative but the performance against a competent but far from outstanding team was complete and utter shite

Well just got back after a long but ace day.

Scrappy game but we did enough, Lucas looked commanding, back 4 looked strong, sheehan made a few shit passes in the second half but made uo for that with a fantastic header from a dangerous cross.

Midfield decent and as for the attack well you know the story he gets one chance and bang.

Was deceptively windy and that played havoc with the game, fucking great result and about 300 swindon fans there. Bring on Leeds.

Why oh why are Leeds fans so obsessed with this big club/small club issue any way? The sooner they realise its about the 11 on the pitch and nothing else, the better for them it will be.
haha, comparing themselves to lazio. that made me chuckle.

First half was pretty enjoyable. They were absolute rubbish and could barely string two passes together. We were the only side who looked dangerous.

Second half they had to resort to any means possible to get themselves into the game, and it became quite scrappy. Obviously you always get the wind comming into it at Hartlepool. Only time they got near the goal was fat boy Humphries long throw ins. Looked pretty obvious that Turner had gone ape shit in the dressing room at HT. He could well be sacked in the next few weeks. Ive been to Hartlepool 4 times and that is easily the most depressed ive ever seen their fans. Barely mustered any support for the team at all, even the 'Turner out' chants were pretty muted. No enthusiasm whatsoever.

We were nowhere near our best, but it was still a victory that could have been more convincing. Word is Leeds were unlucky not to get a draw at Norwich and we will need to 100% on our game next week. Although it has to be said Leeds failed to score again. Our fans have taken a bit of deserved stick in the last few weeks, but the support was good yesterday throughout the match from a small number of fans. There were no grumbles when Austin got subbed (he did look tired), and Billy Paynter got a good reception when he came on.

Quick mention to a few of the players. Lucas, Lescinel, Douglas and Greer were rock solid. Sheehan was good first half but seemed to lose it for a while in the second. Ferry and Mcgovern, did well in a tough battleground. McGovern stuck his head into a ball he wouldnt have put his foot last season with a fantastic show of commitment to stop their man running in on the back 4. Ward not as good as usual but he was still working hard, pitch wasnt great but you cant make excuses.Darby had his best game in a Town shirt so far, some good challenges. Big contrast seeing Darby (one of the thinnest players in the league) up against Ritchie Humphries, one of the fattest. Austin continues to embaress players from higher up the football league. Not just with his workrate, but the accuracy of his passes, his control, his ball retention, his shooting and his running. Nouble seemed to realise he was being totally outclassed by Austin (in every department) in the first half and did step things up, but it didnt stop him getting rightfully substituted for Paynter. Billy came on all guns blazing and went in hard on every challenge. Like I said, I think he was pleased but the fans reception when he came on. Hopefully he will be ready for 90 minutes on saturday because Leeds wont fancy another dose of the AustinPaynter! Very encouraging that our worst player in a Town shirt was the one on loan from West Ham.

Spot on with all that spencer, was similar in performance to the Brighton game, Im liking the fact we seem to be able to hold onto these leads away from home. We play very differently at the county ground, cant wait for next week should be a cracker, if we win at Leeds then im hoping we should get 10,000 plus for tranmere on the bank holiday.

Outstanding. Tasty, cheap and a clever name to boot. Worth the trip on its own I would say. In 2004 I went to a game between Canvey Island and Kingstonian and had the most fantastic burger ever for about £1.50. I still think about regularly to this day.

On the subject of the game, it sounds extremely encouraging and the sort of perforamance we've been incapable of putting in over the last I-don't-know-how-many seasons. Reading some of the comments on Waccoe it does sound like they are actually quite optimistic after the Norwich performance in spite of the result so the lads will have to be at the absolute top of their game. I'm sure they will be though and we're well capable of getting at least a point.

I must say I'm very surprised by this, in 2006 I bought a burger at Victoria Park. It was the worst thing I've ever tasted, I only managed 2 bites and chucked the rest. It also put me off buying food from any ground for a long while.

I have to pinch myself when we play teams like Leeds because it's so rare that teams like us get to play teams of such great stature. Leeds are also my Premiership team and the conflict just kills me. They're just too big for this division and they really shouldn't have to play shitty teams like us every week. I truly hope they can soon get back up where they belong and i can go back to seeing their games from my sofa.

If we don't take 6k+ then we should be ashamed. The size that Leeds, as a club are, merits the same, if not more, attendance than what we took to Fulham. I mean Fulham have never been in the Champions League (from off the top of my head) whilst Leeds have - therefore by the past exploits alone STFC should have more fans travel to watch and support us for what will be the biggest match that we will have this season (regardless of the fact it actually is a pretty big game for both teams :D).

Fulham is handy, Leeds means going to Yorkshire with greater time and expense.  It's also on Easter Saturday, people might have other things going on over the Easter weekend.  The biggest match of the season is Leeds, then Tranmere, then Colchester, then Exeter...............

Yes, taking the posts at face value. I have a dislike of the mighty Leeds United, I am afraid they might be back to their best on Saturday, apparently they shaded it against Norwich except for the late goal.

I don't think Gary Sprake's allegations of Revie's side were unfounded, Jim Barron former Swindon goalkeeper alluded to some funny goings on at Leeds.  When Aston Villa were in the old third division their fans just got on with it and enjoyed the ride.  Leeds will get into the Championship sooner or later but their fans appear to think they are entitled to gain promotion.

For anyone who skis, feeling very confident i once went to the top of a mountain to ski a double diamond run. When i stood at the top of it i literally adopted the foetal position and then crawled to another run. I've never seen anything further from a ski run that is actually classified as a ski run. A 2 parter......

Friday night in Redcar, walks up to a nightclub and the doorman says he cant come in as he is wearing trainers.

DRS : How about I will race you to that clock on the corner.
Doorman: what?
DRS : I race you to that clock on the corner and if i win you let me in no questions asked
Doorman :(laughs) ok mate no worries
DRS : Right then after 3, 1, 2 3.

Doorman legs it, DRS walks in the club :)

doorman comes in the club says fair play laughs and shakes DRS hand :)

DRS and friends walking home from said club in Redcar a little worse for wear pass some stables. DRS decides it would be a good idea to steal a pony so he can give kids a pony ride on Redcar beach on saturday morning at 50p a throw. DRS friends actively encourage him to steal pony so he jumps into the paddock(?) and manages to get pony in a headlock before out comes the farmer screaming blue murder and DRS has to make a sharp exit.

And i was wondering why he looked so rough at the game :)

Managing Leeds United is a poisoned chalice :(.

I don't think they would be happy even if they appointed Mourinho, as he managed Chelski.

What am I saying...that would imply that they are a big club !!!

You can imagine the conversation :

Mourinho's Agent : Leeds have approached me this morning about you becoming their new manager.
Mourinho : Who?
MA : Leeds !! You know that club, whose fans think they are European Champions, despite them struggling to get out of League One due to the fact that all the other teams raise their game against them.
JM : Are you having a laugh ?
MA : No. They say they are a massive club, who should be playing Chumpions League football. They did beat Man Yoo in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
JM : But they play in League One !!!
MA: Their fans say that doesn't count as they are a massive club, who have been European Champions, despite their name never being on the winners list.
JM : Are they fooking deluded? No. Now get me a job at a club that are ACTUALLY in the Chumpions League...not ones who think they should be.
