Great stuff.

I certainly didn't anticipate a TEF baby boom when I became the first member of the 'I'm having a baby club' last year. How many's it been since then? Bushey, Leggett, magic, Ardiles and now Billy?

Up here we call it north Shropshire.  So yes.

Where exactly?  My Dad was stationed at Shawbury in the late 1970s/early 1980s.  Have very fond memories of that part of the world (except Telford).

PS  Many congratulations!

Congratulations you must be well excited!!!

may be joining the TEF baby club soon. My Mrs thinks she is pregnant (she already has a kid) so will see what happens with that. Too early to do a test (can do one 4 days before.... so can do it on the 15th) says she has the same signs as before, using the toilet, stomach cramps, feeling sick, tired etc. So fingers Crossed, Dad of her other kid wants nothing to do with her so I am effectively her Dad (according to my mrs, her parents and family and mine so...) even though the baby is only 16 months old as I am always there etc so I am hopeful. It's a great feeling being a step-dad but to have one of your own I would be over the moon!

I'll find time. If he comes on time, I have a month of work. Woop!

This is the sort of thing that sickens me....when my kids were born, there was no entitlement to any time off, so I had a couple of days by ringing in sick...exhaustion etc.

The missus got plenty, which was fair enough as she did the hard work.

I needed the overtime mind as parenting is a mighty expensive business, and carries on, I've just stopped paying for my kid at Uni approx 5k pa.

I've often thought there should be some sort of parenting licence to pass, a bit like a driving licence as so many people give it very little thought, and it isn't easy to bring up well rounded socially useful individuals.

Actually young reg, I get two weeks paternity leave (one full pay, one statuatory pay) and two weeks of my own holiday entitlement. So NERRRRRRRRR :-P

2 weeks is still better than 0 weeks 0 days.

I quite liked it when my kids were babies as the missus got some fit bird  from the College to come round, who was doing a course in child care or something...she had to observe the baby, I got to observe her which was nice as women go off shagging a bit when they've just dropped a sprog or two.

Thank you all for your messages of goodwill.  I am starting to think I have a real problem on my hands.  I've always believed in supporting your local team.  My dad is Swindon born and bred and a season ticket holder for 40+ years.  I'm also a Swindoner and went to every home game from 91-2007.  However, real life took over and I now live in north Shropshire and am going to be a dad, hence this thread.  My problem is this: do I make my first born a Swindon fan because that's what I want him/her to be, do I urge it to support its most local football league club (Crewe), or do I let it make its own decision?

Make him a Town fan before he's old enough to realise he has a choice. He can sue you for abuse when he grows up, but like as not he won't kick the habit.

Town no other choice, My daughter was born up here, and should by rights support palace, (although everyone else round here is Chelsea) Have taken her home and away this year and she loves it, particularly telling the other kids, who have never heard of swindon, half the class "support" us now, there must be some very confused Chelsea supporting parents round here!

Were you burping lots because you'd drank lots of bubbly to celebrate the birth? You need to be more responsible and treat your body right so that you can look after your new daughter! All night parties are not on the agenda anymore!

We got Jacob into a bedtime routine from about 6 weeks old, bathtime at about 6.30pm, bottle straight after and then asleep by 7ish. Took a few nights of an hour or so of crying himself to sleep, but he's out like a light now. From 10 weeks we moved his Moses basket from our room into his cot in his room, and last week we started putting him straight into hiscot. He sleeps through to 5ish, then has a bottle, and then sleeps til 7ish. Bonus!

How huge? Post a picture of the bump!

Talking to one of the ladies I work with yesterday. Her unborn son must have been flipping somersaults at the time. Was really weird when the baby decided to shift to one side and looking at her, the bump was totally off centre.

Not a particularly cool thing to say, but I find pregnancy absolutely fascinating.

Cheers. I've already told the missus' side that they can buy as many Bristol City baby grows as they want, he/she won't be wearing them. Not on my watch.

I think you're missing a trick here. Given a choice between an STFC nappy and a Bristol City nappy, which one would you rather have your kid shit in?

Oh, and congrats and all that.

The hospitals are (understandably) buggers when it comes to first babies and making sure they feed properly. My eldest was kept in for nearly 3 days, he was lazy and wouldn't latch on properly. With the youngest they chucked him out after 8 hours! Best of luck with mini-JFW :)

Bit random but didn't really want to start a new thread as people might not think it's really the place!

I'm after some advice from other parents really?
I'm going back to work in Sept - only part time 3 days a week - one of those days my husband is having off to have my little boy and as we have no family close enough we are looking at child care options for 2 days a week (term time only)
My first thought was a nursery and I went to look at one Friday and it was VILE! Filthy dirty and members of staff that looked like Jeremy Kyle rejects.

I know not all nurseries are like that but it's given me real anxiety
I don't even know where to start with a childminder, I pulled up a,list on the council website and there was pages and pages of them.

What kind of child are options did/do any of you guys use?
Just after some opinions really

Eldest went to a chilminder from an early age part time (6 months). Mrs searched in local area, we met her and it felt right. Lots of daytime clubs, children of her own, etc.

Then nursery when we moved to Swindon (aged 2), because it was attached to Smiths where the Mrs was working there. Obviously we were comfortable.

Then eldest and youngest went to another childminder in Swindon, again local search but also we sort of knew her  as her son went to eldests school.

Youngest went to nursey/preschool for a bit too, but we weren't impressed so took him out. Mrs went back to teaching and there was a pre-school attached to the school she had a contract at so he went there instead (it was better too).

And lastly both went to chilmider before and after school for a bit.

All three child minders gave up. The boys either broke them, or hopefully it was just the OFSTED load being too much.
----------
I think we got lucky based on gut feel and location on where the Mrs jobs were .

Which nursery was that out of curiosity.

We looked at a couple in swindon and were pretty happy with them. One was the co-op right next to the hospital and the other was in windmill hill (i think this is the one Samdy's wife works at) both we would happily have sent our little boy to but after doing the math sending him to nursery was just too expensive. Luckily we were able to arrange it that family look after him, which was tough on him at first as he goes to 3 different places over the course of a week but he's used to that now.

Hope you manage to sort something out.

I used a childminder for around a year for 2 days a week.

I registered on  www.childcare.co.uk website and placed an ad with my requirements (I needed school drop off and pick up for my oldest as well). A number of childminders then messaged me and I went and met a few of them.  Like Batch said, one of them just felt right.  It then turned out my neighbour had used her, so I spoke to her and she highly recommended her.  I only stopped needing her because my mother in law reduced her work hours and had the boys on those days.

If you look on the website, you can search for all childcare options near to you and read profiles for childminders etc.

Alot of my friends use nurseries and are happy with them, but it's a more expensive option.

Cheers all. I can tell parenthood will be glamourous, had to leave work early to clean up my wife's car after she vomited all over herself when driving home from work. Good early practice for a future of piss, shit and vomit!

Don't take her out for a while. My wife was at the same stage and we were out in London. She felt sick at Victoria and sat on her coat whilst I went to get some water, some plank dropped 20p on her coat thinking she was a drunken derelict..

Congrats - Clutching at straws but what division were we in when Darlo 2 arrived

Thanks!!

So, Darlo 1 arrived near the beginning (November) of the 2010/11 season. The season we went down to League 2 bottom of the league on 41 points having won 9 league games all season.

Darlo 2 arrived at the end (April) of the 2017/18 season.. we finished 9th in League 2.

This one will be arriving in June, once we've gone up to League 1 as champions.

Congratulations, being a grandad is great, I have a 5 year old grandson and a 3 year old granddaughter.
You can ply them with loads of sugary snacks and when they start to get hypo give them back.
If they start getting a bit bored pretend to hurt yourself, they find it hilarious.
I would say try the club shop for Swindon gear.
