Fair play to the little lad, shame he's a Lids fan though.

I saw that a few weeks back, poor kid has been to hell and back so good to see he's doing well.

Seeing as he will be a mascot against us, maybe we should have whip round to get him something? Or maybe the club could do something? Not sure a signed Swindon shirt would go down too well though.

why dont we here at the tef have a whip round and buy him a swindon shirt :)

FWIW, I think that's a cracking idea jonny. If we can think of something suitable, I'd be more than happy to chuck a tenner in.

Lets buy him a swindon kit i will chip in a tenner but im not planning on going to elland road, he might not support us but would be an ace memento of his day.

True, he'd have both sides' shirts then. And he could burn it when he gets home if we win!

Sounds like a good idea. I'm not convinced a Swindon shirt would go down that well (though one signed by all the players that play on the day would be nice), so maybe ask them if there is anything we could get that the kid would want? There are contact details for the person that organised their collection here:

http://www.cleethorpeswhites.co.uk/html/lennon_woods_appeal.html

You want to sort it KoT?

I won't be going but put me down for a tenner.

Just a thought, but rather than putting our hands in our pockets, why don't we bring this to the clubs attention. Could be a massive publicity opportunity for the club and something that they might want to get on board with to demonstrate the family nature of the club - Might come at the right time following on from the flare incident.

I dont have any contacts, but just a thought like.

I think it seems like a bit of an empty publicity thing if you get the club do it. Much more fun if a group of fans do it off their own back.

Hello

swindon fan here from the Town End Forum, we have heard the story and would like to add something from our end to make the day memorable fro this brave little lad. We thought maybe a Swindon Kit or maybe a signed shirt? Let us know what is preferable and continuing good luck to the kid

regards

Iain

Hi Iain

Yeah, agree with that. I thought about emailing the club, then thought much as Ben did. But I'm sure if we needed help getting the shirt signed we'd be able to get the club's help. I could ping a couple of folks who can probably help with that. Let's see what they come back to KoT with

Good work KoT. It'd be great for the kid to have a memento of the day from us lot as well, I'm sure it'd mean a lot whenever he is old enough to appreciate it.

Great news for the little fella and I hope he enjoys his day. A memento from the Swindon fans would go down very well I think.

It might ease the pain from the drubbing we give them on the pitch :D

KoT - you got a PayPal account or something we could send the money to? Might be useful to start collecting now so you can tell them how much we've got and you could always just return the dosh if it doesn't go ahead.

Hi All
Thanks for starting this thread and chatting about one of our members who has been really poorly....
We were not sure f Lennon was going to make it and after his chemo and bone marrow tranfusion....The bone marrow donor came from America and was a 99% match.....

A long year for his family and the Swindon game is the reward for what the little lad and his family have been through....

For me the best gift on the day would be 3 points :-) But I can not be selfish.....

I will be contacting our members secretary at Leeds United and also Paul Dews their media manager to see if we can get some space in the programme or on the official website.

Football comes second to health.....We really appreciate your approach to our branch and would like to meet up with you on April 3rd.....

Best of luck with your promotion charge......Not 1st or 2nd please, you can win the play off's though as long as we are not in it.......

Marching On Together

 :D

As the man said have been in touch and they will be talking to Lennons parents today, Im not actually going up to Leeds for the game so if we do get something sorted out need someone to volunteer to hook up with the dirty northerners. Any takers?

Not a bad idea ralphy, spoke to marie yesterday and she is hopefully going to get something sorted at the club end. Would be good to show that we can actually be nice to northerners instead of just battering them on the pitch.

Nice idea, although games go out of date whilst a shirt which he will never wear is something he can keep as a memento, so I'd go for that.

Title: Re: Leeds Mascot
Post by: pauld on Monday, March 8, 2010, 19:25:14
OK, by my reckoning, we've got the following folks pledging a tenner:

Me
KoT
jonny72
bullethead
Posh Red
jayohaitchenn

And the following pledging unspecified amounts if needed:

Bob's Orange
Batch
SummerOf69

So that's 60 quid specifically pledged, plus 3 unspecified amounts. KoT, how much do we need to get it signed and backprinted with name/age? I'd assume the 60 quid will cover it.

EDIT: Ooops, just realised you were looking at getting it framed as well. So maybe not.

If we get more pledges than the amount we need to actually pay for the shirt/printing/signing can we then donate the remainder to an appropriate charity for Lennon's illness? Check with the family maybe as to what would be appropriate?

Anyone I've missed out/anyone else want to make specific pledges?

And I guess we need a cut-off date by when we need the cash in and how/who/where it needs to be got to.

Title: Re: Leeds Mascot
Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, March 8, 2010, 19:30:42
I'm in for a tenner.

Like you say Paul, £60 will cover the shirt and letters/numbers. Framing is around £80 to £100 I think, unless someone knows somebody who can do it cheaper.

Title: Re: Leeds Mascot

Title: Re: Leeds Mascot
Post by: pauld on Monday, March 8, 2010, 21:52:26
Scores on the doors then

Tenner:
Me
KoT
jonny72
bullethead
Posh Red
jayohaitchenn
Samdy
gk_nash
Whits
Bobs Orange

Fiver:
adje

Unspecified:
SummerOf69
Batch

So in firm pledges, we've got 95 quid plus 2 unspecifieds. If we go on the basis we need about £150 for shirt/print/frame, we're 55 quid shy minus whatever the unspecifieds come to. Any takers?

Right heres the plan........

Going to speak to the club tomorrow about buying a shirt and getting it signed and framed, now im going to see if its possible for everybody to be able to leave their pledges at the club shop in a kitty. Any money we make over the cost of the gift we can give to lennons bone marrow charity, so the more money the better!

Have sorted one of our lot who is going up to elland road and will get a meet organised on the day and get some photos taken.

Nice one everyone.

Right ammendments to plan, you can leave the money at the county ground reception, just leave your donation in an envelope for the attention of Marie and mark it from TEF. Lets get all the money in no later than the Norwich game which them gives us enough time to get it all sorted and framed.

Nice one jonny. And fair play for suggesting the whipround in the first place as well, before KoT runs off with all the glory :)

I'll do a scores on the doors job with where we are so far later, but a quick Mr Whippy style in my head calculation suggests we're already over target. We'll need to be though as inevitably some who've pledged won't cough up (due to bad luck, miscalculation or simple incompetence) and it'd be nice to have some spare anyway to chuck into the designated chariddeee

Title: Re: Leeds Mascot
Post by: pauld on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 18:37:31
OK, by my reckoning we've got pledges from the following:

Me
KoT
jonny72
bullethead
Posh Red
jayohaitchenn
Samdy
gk_nash
Whits
Bobs Orange
TalkTalk
Batch
CliffP
Berniman
Red Frog
SummerOf69
ghanimah
Ginginho
adje
sonic

and brocklesby red has outdone everyone by chipping in 15 quid already. Nice one br.

So we have 190 quid pledged plus 15 quid already in = 205 if everyone comes up with the goods. Which gives us some slack and hopefully some left over to chuck in for their nominated charity.

Nice one, all.

Could people update this thread as they turn pledges into actually doing it so we can keep track - don't want to find we've got a shortfall with a week to go or anything daft.

Hi Guy's
I help run Cleethorpes whites and overwhelmed with your thread to help one of our members.
I have spoken to Leeds United and asked if we could get some coverage in the programme...

The reply was that there should not be a problem, but I need one of your members to contact me so I can organise a photo and write up to be submitted....
Deadline is only a few days away so I need a quick response.

Thanks again for thinking about a fellow football fan...

Please pm me and I will disclose my Email and contact details

That sounds fine as long as you are happy to do that. Can I suggest that you make the cheque payable to Swindon Town Football Company Ltd, as I can give this to the finance dept, they can give me the cash. I will then add this to the rest of the donations.

What about anyone who wants to get their faces in the Lids programme meets up with KoT at either the Brighton game this weekend or Saints next Tuesday, gurns suitably (and collectively) and then he sends the two pics off after that?

Sure. Just to be clear, we're obviously to some extent taking people on trust that when they say they've sent the money either via post (or bank transfer) they have done so. Which I think is reasonable, don't think there's anyone on here who's such a cunt they'd lie about it. So I'm marking people as paid when they post they've sent the money (or in brockley's case actually handed it in already). I'm not marking people as paid when they say they intend to pay via mechanism x, y or z.

I'll update the list properly later

brocklesby red
jonny72

Which is about £260 or thereabouts, of which £140 has been paid. So we should easily cover the cost of the shirt/framing etc, have some slack for any drop-outs and have some left over for a decent donation to the lad's charity.

Just one detail KoT needs to take care of in his role as media slut (rather than his other one of tight-fisted bastard). We should make it clear in any publicity that this sum has been raised by a small band of TEFers rather than the club or its supporters in general, as otherwise the locals will look at our 1000+ following and think this was a pretty poor effort.

Which it isn't.

Perhaps once we know the final amount we have raised the club would be good enough to match the amount pledged? (or double it or whatever) Would be good publicity for both the Townend and the club?

Just a quick update - £50 received to date.
I will just mention that I read someone asked whether or not the Club have been involved so we can donate free letters/number etc. I'm happy to say my discount will be put against the shirt / numbers so you will have it at a discounted rate.

Feel free to copy and paste this.
I've put in a tenner as well!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

To be honest, how much signed Swindon stuff is a Leeds fan going to want? I'd say stick to the shirt and the rest to charity - reckon that's more likely to be appreciated than attempting to fill his room with Swindon memorabilia :)

So are those going to Brighton tomorrow meeting up at some point for a photo?

If so, where and when?

If it hasn't been arranged, I'd suggest half time or the final whistle. Either the urinals or behind the goal (as close as we can get, so about 100 yards away). Unless someone has a better suggestion.

Oddly a box of AK47's arrived for me this morning and a small philipino boy in a box. Very odd!

More payments, more pledges since last update. Now looks like:

Paid
brocklesby red
jonny "The launderer" 72
bullethead

Ginginho
Red Frog
CliffP
Bobs Orange (assuming his bank don't get worried he's funding some kind of international arms conspiracy)
sonic
chalkies shorts
magicroundabout
Zurich Red
suttonred
Posh Red
donkey
Samdy
SummerOf69
THE FLASH!
Marie the Merciless
DukeOfBanbury
Anteater
Whits
Batch
Me
thedarkprince
gk_nash
arriba
adje

Pledged
leefer
KoT (whether he likes it or not)
jayohaitchenn

STFC dave
herthab
Luci

Which is 28 paid by various means, 9 pledged but still to pay, so north of 350 quid total.

jonny, someone posted this from Marie earlier in the thread:

That sounds fine as long as you are happy to do that. Can I suggest that you make the cheque payable to Swindon Town Football Company Ltd, as I can give this to the finance dept, they can give me the cash. I will then add this to the rest of the donations.

Many thanks
Marie
So I guess cheque c/o Marie payable as above. We've got enough handed in already now to cover the cost of the shirt so if everyone else just hands in cash/cheque to Marie on Saturday, then we can get her to tot up the extra, get the Leeds chaps to tell us which charity they want the extra donated to and either get a cheque done or a Venables style "cash in a brown envelope" handover on the day. But at least if it's all in with Marie then we've got one central point where we know all the money's been handed in, rather than having bits and bats all over the shop. And, hey, good work on the money laundering, sir!

Oh, good shout. Can we not get gift-aid if Marie gets the cheques cashed and then slings it all in in one lump as a donation from her? Mex, you're in touch with the Leeds lot, any idea about a justgiving page etc?

Yes, but essentially she will have to lie and pretend it is a personal donation from her, which the taxman won't be very happy about if he finds out.

We will probably be there much earlier than you and bearing in mind this lad is mascot for the day the handover will probably need to be done fairly early.
PM me if you are worried about anything and as i said will leave it up to you...also i am thinking of getting a card from us all at TEF regardless of who contributed.
If you would rather i pick it up from johnny then hand it to Marie i will do so she can tie it in with all the money she is holding i will......we can then get a final amount.
Bearing in mind Leeds is looming better we sort it soon..........yours mystic Leefer.

I don't have anything for anyone to pick up. Before the Norwich game I dropped a cheque off with Marie, payable to the club, for the £105 I had collected up to that point. Barry is going to drop his money off at the CG, or contact one of you guys to hand it over.

What a great thread! It's the first time I've actually looked at it and it would appear to be too late to contribute but some one please let me know if it isn't.

I think it would be a very good idea if some one was to get in touch with the BBC and they might give it a mention on the Football League Show. They may be planning to feature the game any way - you know, with that bald headed bloke (can't think of his name).

I'm not putting this forward from the "Ooooh, look at us, we're great"  angle (not that I've had anything to do with it any way) but from the point of view that it's a bloody excellent story and really shows football/football fans in a great light. Besides which, it's a fantastic 'feel good' story and God knows we could do with a few more of those these days. It actually restores your faith in human nature.

The local press are sure to cover it (certainly in Leeds and I would hope in Swindon) but this kind of thing deserves a bit of national coverage.

What do you reckon?

P.S. All the best to Lennon and his family and I hope you have a great day on the 3rd..I'm sure you will (even a home defeat won't spoil it 8))

I agree with OST in the sense of showing football fans in a better light as the amount of bad press/negativity sometimes is ridiculous.  We are so quick to hear the bad when it happens but never any of the good stuff behind the scenes.

As I said Dave (assuming you read it all the way through) I've had as much to do with this as you have. i.e. NOTHING so self-congratulation does not come into it.
And I'd prefer it if you leave your gut out of this 8)

All of that's fine. As I said, it's nowt to do with me really.

I personally don't see it as a self congratulatory thing, just a really great, positive story. I get a bit fucked off with the negative publicty football fans get when stuff like this does not get a mention.

I will just put my point slighly differently and say that I hope that a section of the media does pick it up on this independently and it gets a bit of publicity. Cos it deserves to.

Obviously I want to avoid the whole pat on the back scenario and i kind of think that could be somewhat inevitable but who knows maybe my talking about it if we even get one more person signed up on the donor lists its a good idea?

I think the idea is it goes to the family to do with as they think most fitting - if they think it's best spent on giving Lennon a treat of some sort, I don't imagine anyone would have a problem with that at all (after all, the whole idea was to help make his day special - if taht extends to two days, all the better) but if they'd rather it goes to the charity, all well and good.

@WE-R-LEEDS
Quote

We discussed the idea of asking about a pitch presentation but thought it would detract from the match sponsor thing - pretty sure Lennon would rather be soaking up the thrill of being on the pitch with his heroes than dicking about with some fat middle-aged Swindon fans. It's all about him, not us.

Had no doubt it would be done well but good to hear confirmation. Couple of years ago it would probably been in a frame made of Weetabix boxes and clingfilm.

Cracking job people. Will get photo's on sat and show you all

My Mrs is from York, she loves being called Lancastrian (not). A rose is a rose as I tell her.

She's domesticated now.

I didn't know you were celibate.  :)

We won't be able to make for the handover, but make sure you get some photos as it would be nice to get a look at it.

Dirty Leeds fan here..

Many thanks to Swindon fans for your fantastic gesture towards Lennon.

Granted, we are unpopular (just the way we like it) but appreciate that you have laid aside rivalry to support Lennon and raise awareness of his charity in your area. Well done.

Brilliant pics axs - Lennon's smile/cheeky grin in the last two is well worth a tenner of anyone's money. Hope he managed to enjoy his day despite the result

And the club did a brilliant job with the shirt. I would say well done to KoT for organising it but he seems to take this as a come-on, so he can go fuck himself :)

I followed the game in a Newcastle pub via Soccer Saturday. I was working in retail at the time and took annual leave with the intention of going but I just couldn't justify the expenditure.

Great result. Honestly thought 'this is it' after that win.
