Title: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, February 1, 2010, 16:38:54 Hello
I've just today moved into my new house in Bath. I am using the existing internet service set up by the previous inhabitants, a Virgin media service. I can log-on fine, and use the internet (obviously), but I am told it has not yet validated me, and i am a bit worried and confused how to do this. Can somebody help me with this matter please? Yours Faithfully David Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: jonny72 on Monday, February 1, 2010, 16:43:29 What is saying it hasn't validated you?

Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Sippo on Monday, February 1, 2010, 16:51:59 Are you sure its a virgin media balloon? It maybe spyware. can you take a screen shot of said balloon?
Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: jonny72 on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:00:34 Not sure how Virgin Media could push a pop up balloon like that to your computer.
Is it coming from windows or your browser? Sure its not windows saying you haven't validated it yet? Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:02:23 yeah its windows saying it
Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Sippo on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:04:37 Sounds like the windows validation balloon possibly. Have you a dodgy copy of your OS, or have you done a windows update recently.
You can uninstall it via the control panel. Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:05:44 I've done nothing to my OS for 3 years
Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Sippo on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:09:08 So what does the balloon actually say?

Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: jonny72 on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:22:44 That message is for your wireless LAN.
Might mean the settings are wrong, or security isn't set at the highest level. Something like that. Are you using a new router? Is it set up correctly? Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:28:10 I don't know :( Literally moved in today, have no idea
I think the old housemates set it up when they moved in, about 5 months ago Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:34:03 Fixed it now :)
Unticked the "Enable IEEE802.1x to the availiable network" and it worked :) Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, February 1, 2010, 17:42:12 I know your address now. I'm going to send a big man round to bum you.

You disappoint me Dave Haha, I was actually planning to drop in a bunch of innapropriate tabs and references next time i had to take a legitimate screenshot, to lighten the mood. Two of us have laptops, one a mac, connected to the internet. A third though is trying on her macbook and although it is connecting to the network, it won't let her on the internet. Any ideas? Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, February 7, 2010, 18:00:33 Have you ensured the network connections are exactly the same on both the Macs?
Are they all set to DHCP for the IP address ("Configure IPv4" on a Mac), or set manually to different IP addresses? Title: Re: Internet Help Post by: Bogus Dave on Sunday, February 7, 2010, 19:06:37 No ideas what any of that means.
