Good signing in this league.

who were you expecting him to come on loan from - he doesnt play for anybody?!

be dissapointed if Wilson suddenly decided to break up the Paynter/Austin partnership.

Be even more gutted if either one got injured and we didn't have a decent striker to step in.  Certainly keep them both on their toes if performance levels drop from there current highs.

I'm not bothered really as long as whoever is up front is playing well and scoring goals.

Should provide good cover For Paynter and Austin and if one of them suffers a dip in form then we have a ready made replacment.

clearly means Austin hasn't been offered a new deal and will go at the end of the season!!!! :/

personally think it's a good signing. as others have said a dip in form with either Austin/Paynter and Pericard can come in. Also adds competition for places

I'd be disappointed if I was a Carlisle United fan too.

I don't care for the whole football fan dick size competition - we're bigger than you and all that.

There's only ten points between Swindon and Carlisle - that's not a massive step up is it.

Trevor Benjamin is only 30 now - so he would have only been about 26/27 when he played for Swindon.

Have to say Vincent Pericard is a name I recognise but I don't have a clue about him as a player.

What are his attributes, quick or (presumably) big and powerful if Trevor Benjy  comparisons are being made?

Should fill the gap when Paynter goes to Rovers :)

I am pleased with this signing, he obviously has some talent, lets hope he can show it with us.

If he can do the same as the Chief did with us when he signed from Brizzle Shitty then I will be happy as hes a very similar type of player and signing for us at almost exactly the same age.

He could be a very astute signing. I have faith in Wilson (you only have to look at who he's brought in thus far) and as has already been mentioned, the competition for places can only be a good thing.

would it be likely that paynter plays with ward upfront or pericard? surely they are too similar to have it any other way.

Seems the transfer was done fairly quickly, which is a good sign that he wants to come here.

Motivation will be the key with this player. Hopefully we can show him he has taken a step up from Carlisle and that were a club worth playing for.

Pompey fans sits next to me and says it could be an awesome signing. He was disappointed Pericard never went on to fulfil his potential with them. He recalls him skinning Gary Neville in an FA Cup game against United. Fingers crossed he's a good'un. For now, I'd stick with BP and CA. Any dip in form and in he goes...

Some of them do seem to need a reality check. They offered him a 3 month contract so they could ditch him if he didn't perform instantly, and are complaining that he's shown no loyalty.

Title: Re: ***OFFICIAL*** Pericard has signed ***
Post by: iffy on Friday, January 15, 2010, 19:48:26
Exactly. You get what you give.

I don't see how a club offering a three month trial contract to a player can complain about loyalty. What did they think would happen?

With regards to the money stuff on the other thread and the Carlisle forum, I think most of our fans either conveniently forget or don't realise that the club is still massively in debt - £11.8m in the latest accounts. OK, so the debt is (mainly if not all) to the holding company (owned by Fiiton & co) which is the majority shareholder of the club but it is still a debt.

Its also still climbing, up £3m in the latest accounts on the previous year and probably another £2m this season.

I'm not saying its anything to worry about (though it could be one day) just pointing out it is there.

IIRC, it's only because the CVA still hasn't been finalised properly (or wasn't at the time the latest accounts were published) and therefore the full amount (roughly £9million I think) still has to be shown on the balance sheet.

I'm sure pauld will be along to correct me shortly :)

Title: Re: ***OFFICIAL*** Pericard has signed ***
Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 15, 2010, 21:44:35
It's more like £13.7m in the latest accounts and £2m is related to the CVA.

I may have misunderstood but the way I read it is that the club still owes the money, except now it owes it to the holding company (Fitton & co) rather than creditors. Obviously the holding company aren't demanding it be repaid and it is the majority shareholder of the club but still, the debt is there for all to see in the club accounts.

Title: Re: ***OFFICIAL*** Pericard has signed ***
Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 15, 2010, 23:25:31
Off the top of my head 7m is to the holding co, 2m to the cva which had to be shown as a liability even though paid because Andronikou didnt complete the paperwork in time, 1.5m to shaw developments which was in dispute. Clearly we're still in a tricky position as jonny says. I'm more confident Fitton has a handle on it though

Whatever the figures, this is a very good point. i think most of us here do still realise that the club is in a precarious position, is losing money, and needs to do something in the next few years to turn things around and start paying this off. As Si says, it does seem like Fitton knows what he is doing, and I certianly have a lot more confidence in him and his crew than in any other recent board. Unfortunately, as you say, some people seem to think Fitton has come in, paid off the debts and is willing to do a bit of an Al Fayed to spend our way up the leagues. He's not, and I for one am quite thankful. We could end up looking like Portsmouth, Norwich, Southampton or Leeds if we chase the dream.

Whilst Andrew Fitton & Co are no doubt doing an excellent job, I think the above illustrates how us fans should not just forget about the finances of the club. You never know what will happen in the future, so it's important we gain as much influence in the club as we can.
Hence the objective of gaining a shareholding in the club

well it was a bloody good 20 mins.linked the play well.stretched their defence and won a pen.
not saying he's the mutts nuts, but he was quality, and his class was glaringly obvious.

Haha, I was going to say I am going to do an Arriba. But Arriba has taken the happy pills in this thread.

I didn't think he looked that pacey and that good today, and possibly could have chased things a bit more! Though he won the penalty well and had a couple of neat touches. He's certainly a 'big unit'.

That said, I certainly think there is a lot, lot more to come. And I agree with Jonny, 20 minutes isn't enough to judge him yet.

Think it was the perfect time for him to come on, which was by (un)luck due to Austin's injury. I think he can offer us a decent physical presence for this division. Didn't get to see much else of his play but he wasn't as slow as I thought he would be.

Yeah, but that's just made him more versatile - he's can be used as a lone striker, cos he's used to solitary, and is well adapted to life on the wing.

Big and mobile and looked good...jury still out for me.

However, did more in 20 minutes than Ashibadloanee and Hutchinson combined.

While you are there Flash ask some Stoke fans what they think of Pericard. The majority might suggest he actually IS Ashibadloanee and Hutchinson combined. The jury is, however, still out for me aswell.

Interesting that Pericard says he had offers from other Championship and League One sides but chose Swindon.

Looks like he came here to play 1st team football and may be capable of giving Austin / Paynter a run for their money, albeit based on 20 minutes and his previous. Provided he is decent, Wilson did a good job getting him to come here with our current strikers on fire - I thought we'd only get second rate players as cover.
