Title: Fa Cup 3rd Round Draw
Post by: Langers on Sunday, November 29, 2009, 10:30:34
Who does everyone want?

For me either: Oxford Away/Home

Or: A big Prem team Away

We will get a shit draw V Lincoln or Forest Green

The Pox please, or one of the big 10 Premier teams away for a good day out.

And whats wrong with Forest Green? a good local tie, very very close, chance of winning and managed by old Town favourite Hockaday.

Post by: Langers on Sunday, November 29, 2009, 10:47:00
It would be a winnable tie but wouldnt carry the excitement of the other possible ties

The Pox please, or one of the big 10 Premier teams away for a good day out.

Would agree with that

Though they did have chris baird in central midfield yesterday, so anythings possible!

They have to give 25% I think so that's at least 5,000. As has been said Rovers took 6,000-7,000 a few years back.

Guys,

Another thing everybody needs to make a note of; We're due to play Southampton away
on 23rd Jan.They've been drawn at home to Luton or Rotherham. If they win, it'll mean our
trip to St Mary's will have to be rearranged,to a midweek fixture.

Of course, should be win at Craven Cottage or a replay at the CG, it would become academic  :)

Damn right...this'll struggle to get 10,000. In recent seasons Fulham average about 11-12,000 for a cup game against, anything other than another London side or ManUre.  I'd imagine the price might be fairly eye popping as well.

Still 1500 Town fans should make a bit of noise.

Reg, come off it. Fulham haven't got any fans so you can get tickets there for £25 even for Premier League matches. For the FA Cup against tinpot Swindon I'm sure they'll be lower. And didn't we take 2500 to Palace a couple of years back? I'm sure we could replicate that and hopefully better it.

Here you go DRS, found this, should aid your liquid quest.

'The Crabtree on Rainville Road (10 minutes from the ground) welcomes all away supporters and as a Fulham season ticket holder I can tell you that as long as you don't watch your football at Loftus Road you can be assured of a warm welcome'. To find this pub go along Stevenage Road away from the Cottage and the away end. On reaching the home end of the ground, turn left along an alley which runs behind the stand. When you reach the River Thames turn right and walk along the riverside path. You will reach the Crabtree on your right. Andrew Johnson recommends; 'the Zulu Bar (formerly the Kings Head), on Fulham High Street, is one of the nearest to the ground and is always popular with away fans'. Otherwise near to the tube station is the 'Eight Bells' and just further along Fulham High Street is 'The Kings Arms' and O'Neills.

Most of our fans will end up catching the tube to Putney Bridge (on the north/Fulham side of the river), but you also see a lot of people coming in via the overland service to Putney station.  If you do end up doing that, there are some good pubs along the Lower Richmond Road in Putney.  The Duke's Head is an old favourite of mine.

For me that has to be Chelsea away in December 1990 in a cup tie, stood on that large bank when it felt like it was minus 6C. Think I ate about 3 burgers and had about 5 cups of coffee to try and keep warm.

Fantastic draw (but I live about half an hour away from the ground, so I would say that). My first ever away match was at Fulham in the third round of the cup in 1977 - Fulham (inc George Best, Bobby Moore and Rodney Marsh) 3, Town 3. And we tonked them 5-0 in the replay. Same again would be nice.

If we were playing Leyton Orient and Barnet I might agree, but I'm hoping that the novelty factor of each of these ties will still draw plenty of people along. Charlton is on Boxing Day, where nobody has anything better to do (unless they love their in-laws), plus its a ground we haven't visited for a while, and possibly one we won't go to again in the near future. As for Fulham, it's an easy day out for a 3rd round tie against a Premiership club, with a reasonable prospect of an upset given that they will probably put out a weakened side (just look at the fixtures they have after they play us!)

Title: Re: Fa Cup 3rd Round Draw

A potential trip to Sunderland will be a welcome and quite radical change of pace for the Non-Leaguers... If they feel doing well in Non-League and travelling up with a lot of fans to the North East makes them more superior, then good on them (statement accompanied with a slow clap).

I'd think people will arive at about 11am and head straight down towards Fulham

Quite right Mr Flash.that would be St.Stephen's and it did indeed feature in the Omen.

On previous visits to Craven Cottage,i walk from Putney Bridge station through Bishops Park,
to the ground.

The park is usually closed after the game,so it's a case of walking up to and along the
Fulham Palace Rd,back to the station.Easy walk,no problems.

They would normally if they had two TV companies, but Setanta have gone bust, so what they've been doing is that 2 games gave been on ITV, with one live on the official FA website for free.

If the West Ham vs Arsenal game DOESNT get chosen by TV and moved to the sunday then I am pretty sure someone in London is going to get moved by the Police.

I dont think the Met will cover West Ham, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea all on the same saturday 3pm KO.

Jills could be at Barnet if Barnet win their replay at Accrington.

You cant beat the cup. Pure random. The unseeded draws are anarchy and long may it continue.

Around 20-30 swindon got put on a bus with an escort of about 5/6 riot vans when we played millwall a couple seasons ago too. I was trying to find a photo taken out the back of the bus earlier it is funny. The ratio was like 1 riot van per 4 or 5 swindon.  :soapy tit wank:

Only changes from Saturday 3pm kick offs are:

Saturday, 2 January 2010
Reading v Liverpool, R3, 17:15

Sunday, 3 January 2010
Chelsea v Watford, R3, 15:00
Notts County v Forest Green, R3, 15:00
Sheff Utd v QPR, R3, 15:00

Bar the Reading game they all appear to be due to clashes with other local teams. No announcements on TV coverage yet, have to wait and see what happens as the FA still haven't managed to sell the other package which I'm assuming ESPN or Sky will pick up within the next week or so.

Plus I want to go to the Harrods sale first!

Surely that's still more expensive than everywhere else though?

On a Harrods related note, [here he goes again...] me and a some friends had to attend a psychology lecture in London back when i was doing A-Levels. Me and a mate (who incidentally went on to do a masters in said subject) decided it was boring. There were hundreds of people from schools all over the country in some massive lecture theatre and half the shit these professors were talking about was very dull, so we decided we were going to sneak out from under our teachers noses and go to Harrods all day instead.

We made it out unnoticed, sneaked to the nearest tube station and caught a tube to knightsbridge and made it to Harrods. We then spent all day browsing, walking around, and being teenage twats and even managed to buy a few Chirstmas presents. We then managed to get back to the location of the lectures, sneak in amongst the crowds, as everyone was leaving, then onto the bus with all our class mates back to Swindon.

It was a proper adventure, the only downside was our teacher was livid for ages because "we clearly hadn't listened to a word that was said all day and didn't even bother to take notes." We were also often on tenterhooks because our mates would often loudly ask questions about the lectures, or hint about Harrods, to try and drop us in it. Happy days.

Harrods used to do these amazing cookies, fresh. They were full of chocolate chunks the size of squares of chocolate from a bar. They were warm and soft and the chocolate was closer to a liquid than a solid. They were boss - to quote a random bristolian.

This is possibly the best idea EVER!??

I'm gonna buy myself a battery powered heated jacket. I know it's off topic, but i'm sick of being cold at football and decided to announce it here. Actually it's not a jacket (they're very expensive). I'm getting a battery powered vest thing for about £35. :D

I think that is unofficially the best, but yet most underutilised, football spectator clothing.

I know absolutely loads of people who want to go to this that are either non town fans or just not regular attendees.

For example, of the three people that are coming along with me, 2 support United and 1 supports Brentford but fancy a day out in London and a trip to the Cottage!

They're not really checking the season tickets, let alone taking one of the vouchers - they just need to see the plastic wallet (as you wouldn't have one unless you had a season ticket). So you could always pop along to the ticket office and have a couple of different people go in with the same season tickets.

Or go in at different times and just ask them to swap the tickets over so they're all together.

It's my work Christmas party tonight. To avoid a hangover (and for fun) I am going to continue drinking when I wake up tomorrow. When I get to the memorial ground I will have been pissed for some time.

If that it is true its a bit of a joke! But hey, weve got half a chance of matching Rovers' away following there a couple of years ago.

Does he think we will get anymore?

Got mine today.

This has taken some very delicate negotiations with Mrs Wiggy, as it is her mum's birthday and we always have the in-laws to stay. Still, the in-laws have decided that it will be culturally enriching for their grandsons to have a day in London and have agreed to delay their visit.

I love my mother-in-law (who is a WBA fan and very well disposed towards Swindon right now).

If you want tickets together, have to get them off of Fulhamfc.com, for the PUTNEY END, which is a neutral end, next to the away end. Either online or on the phone...

Did they say how many more, I've just phoned Fullham and must have pressed the wrong option as I ended up talking to some woman who was at the training ground. Didn't tell me much but warned me not to sit in the home end! (also seemed to think that there would be no neutral end for cup games). She did say that the away fans are usually given P5,P6,P7 which is the opposite end of the stand to the ones available on the website.

Edit:  2000 available tomorow (on website now)

The neutral stand is right next to the away supporters.  Speaking to Swindon Travel in Havelock Street it would seem most of that has been filled by Swindon Fans also with a few Fulham fans in there.

I reckon there could be over 7,000 Swindon fans on the day including the ones in the Neutral stand

I was told yesterday we'll be getting an extra allocation for general sale. Oh, and if like me, you kindly agreed to buy tickets for someone else plus one who's now decided that he actually needs plus three, you can't swap seats once you've booked them due to Fulham's computerised turnstiles apparently. Quite why that makes a difference I don't know, but "Computer Says Nooo"

All the tickets are in the same end aren't they? So it shouldn't make too much difference whether you buy them from Fulham or Swindon. Either way, I'd make sure you get a ticket soon as the ticket office will probably be mental on Saturday.

the fulham away end holds 6500.

if we've sold 3800 + 2000 (arriving tomorrow) leaves 700 spare in the away/natural end.

Not a bad idea that, although you have to get around the fact some will have already bought tickets for the Brighton game a couple of weeks ago, and some genuine supporters might not be able to make the Brighton game, which would be a bit harsh on them!

Dont be a miser. Stay for a pint.

Besides underground trains are massive. The crowd is going to be around 15,000 and there are going to be a lot bigger crowds in London that day. Your comment makes us sound a bit small time to be honest, Fulham have this every game, they give away supporters big allocations.

Just hoping Town can make us proud. It could be worth a lot of casual fans for the rest of the season.

The thing what annoys me the most for some reason, is travelling on the tube for a League one game would be easy, no problems. Now with 3000 odd going, it's going to be carnage travelling home. Especially bandwagon fans.

Indeed, football fans on the train on a Saturday, that will come as quite a shock, especially London-bound. Do London even have a team?

London games that day.

Fulham v Swindon
Spurs v Posh
Brentford v Doncaster
Millwall v Derby

Didn't fancy queing in the cold and wet to possibly be dissapointed so decided to go in neutral bit to be on the safe side, how many on here doing same? Do people think there be any neutrals/Fullham in there (looking on the Fullham tickets site there are loads sold in that section and I couldn't imagine many Fullham fans rushing to get ticket this long before the game)

THe 'neutral' bit is just the last block, P1, of the putney end behind the goal, swindon are gradually filling up all the other blocks, P2 to P7 or 8. I dont think there is even any partition between them.... I will be in there, along with plenty of others. There wont be any fulham in there, the whole end behind the goal will be swindons...whether or not we fill it is a different matter.

Some of my fammily are from Surrey and they use the nuetral end at Fulham quite a bit. The boys like Chelsea, but Fulham is great value and they do go in there quite a bit.

Anyway, they are going in the nuetral side for the Swindon game (mainly in the hope of goading me  ;D). And obviously it is school hollidays, ideal to time take the boys to football.

So thats the sort of people you will probably get in there, local Dads and kids. And a few Japanese tourists, but probably mainly Swindon fans!

I read fulham get special dispensation for having 'friendly fans'.

Its crazy behind the putney end, fulham fans have to walk under that stand to get to the riverside stand, meaning fans of both teams being able to mingle in the concourses

You could park up at Hammersmith (couple of decent sized NCP public car parks near Hammersmith tube) then 10 minute walk to a pub called the Crabtree by the river and in the direction of Craven cottage (Fulham Palace Rd direction). Then a further 10 minute walk along the river from pub to the ground.

Quote
STADIUM FACILITIES
Capacity:
25,700

First Aid
There are two First Aid points in the ground. The first is next to the Open Air Bar under the Riverside Stand and the second is in the Putney End undercroft.

Official Merchandise
Matchday is a major opportunity for Fulham’s retail operation and in order to maximise merchandise sales a new, larger store was opened in August 2005 in the Johnny Haynes Stand. Furthermore, the shop at the stadium is supported by the Fulham Road Shop which offers plenty of retail opportunities for those on their way to the ground on a matchday and in the local area on a non-matchday. There are also two mobile units around the stadium on matchdays that make Fulham products available to fans once they have entered the Cottage.

Away Fans and the Neutral area
Craven Cottage has been configured to allow the number of seats provided to the away club to vary between the minimum League requirement and up to a maximum of nearly 6,500. This has proved to be a huge advantage over the last couple of seasons when the Club was selling games with a large demand from the visiting club and a lesser demand from home fans (e.g. Cup ties against lower League opposition) as the Club is obligated to remove tickets from general sale when the away allocation and neutral areas sell out.

Tickets within the ‘neutral’ area of the Putney Stand are sold on the premise that the individual could be sat next to a supporter of either team, or indeed a genuine neutral. The neutral area effectively acts as a buffer zone, allowing the Club to continue to sell tickets once the away allocation has sold out. The introduction of the neutral zone has been warmly received by all fans and has reduced the occurrence of away fans securing seats in home areas of the stadium over the last two seasons. The Big Match Package is also only be available in this area.

What's all this about ticket swapping?? Because I originally got two adult tickets but then me and my mates got 4 young adults (didn't realise at first!) and i gave the two adult ones to my mates brothers... Surely that wouldn't be a problem? How the hell would they know anyway?

Got a feeling it won't be that noisy, because all the singers will be separated in different areas of the stand... it'll be a quality day out though.

Seeing as our cup performances where the final nail in the coffin for Malpas last season and Fitton always telling us how important they are financially, it would be interesting to see how much we've made from the cups this season compared to last.

Maybe £200k more than last season?

If we can learn to win penalty shoot outs it would be big bucks.

Yeah. Some bloke only just released from prison torched a garage. The owner and his mates beat him up and left him in a ditch just outside Martock. Think he died of his injuries, together with exposure.

The way I read it is we sold the initial 3800. Then we were going to get another 2000, but it looks like 1000 at a time. So we have received 1000 with 200 left to sell, the other 1000 (other half of the 2000) we will receive next week. Confusing

It's too late and too big a crowd to organise much. We could surf the 12th man shirt and stick some flags out but personally I can't be stuffed to do anything.

I think the away following willl be L&P enough in its own way to be honest. Don't need us for this one.

What are the chances of everybody standing at the game, rather than sitting?

I'm going with my dad who has problems standing and walking for short periods let alone an entire football game.

So if people are going to be standing we're going to have a problem and best I know now so I can hopefully sort something out. Maybe see if they can move us to another section where people will be sitting.

Or does anyone know what Fulham are like with people standing, do they allow it or force everyone to sit?

On match of teh day it looked like people were stood up behind one of the goals, as an indication of Fulham's attitude. But to be honest I can see a lot of people moaning if everybody is stood up. It's unfortunate that we can't have an area for standing and an area for seating in the modern game really.

Very chilled out ground, in my experience.

I saw that but then it was Man Utd and they have (or had) major problems with standing at Old Trafford. Though I think you could be right that most people will expect to sit as they aren't the hardcore away fans. Probably a lot of families and part timers just going as its a big cup away game.

Does anyone know whether they will expect people to sit in their ticketed seats?  My seats are right at the back (so should be okay for standing), but my mates are all scattered around the stand.

And I agree that the "less experienced" away fans making this trip might not be thinking the same way that we on here do (stand, sing, shout abuse etc), but I'd expect enough of us to be there that we can get a good atmosphere going.

Fulham will make some changes, and we've got nothing to lose (except a spot in round 4).

seems like we're all scattered around which hopefully should be good. pockets of town fans wanting to sing should (hopefully) generate the rest into a singing frenzy :)

did anyone see the Blackpool/Preston game a few weeks ago on sky?
The Preston fans were housed on the side in a temp stand and started singing "if you all hate blackpool jump around". the stand was jumping around which caused the cameras to go funny and had to switch to the otherside of the ground. it looked ace.

would be good if we could do a "if you all love swindon jump around" and then go fucking mental :)

We lost 10-1 in a 4th round replay at Maine Road in 1930....shame we couldn't have finished the job in the home leg which ended 1-1.

This would be on the year I am spending New Year in Scotland! Might be going to see Dunfermline v Raith which is apparently a derby match. Have to save up for the 4th round trip to Old Trafford I suppose!

We have sold 5928 tickets excluding those in the "neutral area" - no more available from Swindon, just restricted view available on the day

Have to admit to getting this one wrong in terms of travelling fans...proper old school Swindon having a massive turn out for a cup game. I'd imagine Hodgson will put out his reserves for this, thing is though Fulham have a tidy squad. Might Wilson be tempted to do the same....

there is not a chance reg that wilson will not put out his strongest squad.

we have 6000 fans going and there is a buzz about the game that swindon has needed for about 5 seasons. good performance and our home attendance could regularly tip 8-9000 as we chase a play off place.

Why? Are you hiding from Ash?

Reg, seeing as our last manager was sacked by Fitton for poor Cup showings their is not a chance in hell of Wilson putting out a weakened team.

I think you are on a bit of a wind up sometimes.

I'm going to this lovely little bistro for a glass of wine before the game as apparently the trains will be 'dry' on Saturday.

We are planning on the mad bishop at paddington and then play it by ear. If the 8 bells is going to be rammed with queues at the bar, we may not bother. Just going to decide on the day!

Why would you be advised to stay away from the traditional away pub?!

I'm heading for Earl's Court. Loads of pubs and just a few stops before Putney Bridge.

I thought about Earls Court, but the pubs are a bit of a walk from the station.

Obviously the one to avoid is Fulham Broadway because it will be full of Chelsea.

Yeah, fair play, but heard on another forum that 8 bells was no longer an 'away' pub.

Few beers at Paddington and then see where everyone is meeting / going to. 8)

I've got some fulham mates who said it isn't an away pub anymore, the london boys are still heading there though. The only issue will be if the police are there and move us all on, but hey that's what mobiles are for.

They're not playing until Sunday. There are a few good pubs a few yards from Fulham Broadway. If you want a good fry up then turn right out of FB, walk to the junction, cross over, follow the road for about quarter of a mile and you will see a cafe on the left (right next to a roundabout).  :I'm a complete mofleakin Deak

Fulham have had hardly any arrests for years, they are an aggro free club.

The Fulham supporters club base themselves at the Golden Lion. To be honest, if you are in small groups Im sure they would fancy a chat though.

There are 4 or 5 other pubs around Putney Bridge (other than the 8 bells or the Golden Lion).

In terms of drinkers, Swindon will outnumber Fulham 4 to 1 around the ground.
