Huddersfield have been bloody impressive this year and Rhodes and Novak are class... can see them scoring at least twice despite our decent defence recently, as we are incapable of scoring more than 1 I predict a 1-3 defeat.

Off the back of a set of mixed results recently, it's games like this that will decide whether we are going to plod towards lower mid-table again or make a serious bid for a play off place.  A few wins before Christmas - starting tonight - and then some strengthening of the forward line in January...we can do this.  In the meantime, I just hope Billy & Charlie are up for it.

Reading between the lines what he means is that it will be redeveloped soon but if the Brizzle bid is successful that it will speed up the development as it is an incentive for us to have better facilities etc.

First have we had the disadvantage of a gusting win, which i thought we coped with well, paynter took his goal very well, only to conceed a few minutes later, in the first hafl i thought hudds played some good football.

Second half they had the wind dissadvantage and they couldnt cope with it.

Well done to austin, i thought he had a good game, works well with billy.

My MOTM was rightly simon ferry, he's a class above the rest, absolutly fantastic.

Played the conditions much better than they did. In the second half with the wind in their faces they fell apart until about 20 mins to go. Ferry was a different class, I thought Douglas had a bit of an off game but still played ok.

A good and hard fought win in shit conditions. Huddersfield were better first half and we scored slightly against the run of play. Second half was ours.

Ferry was a clear MOM. Ran his socks off :) JPM, and Cuthbert were the other stand out players.

Slightly disappointed by Macca and LJF in the first half, but what a great challenge by the latter  to set up the winner.

Austin did OK, and took his goal well.

All in all - excellent!

Ferry and Douglas must be the best midfield pairing we've had in years. They were both awesome today and I've just read on here Ferry is staying till the end of the season, result.

Cuthbert, Greer, LJF, JPM, Paynter and Austin were all good to.

Austins finished was pure instinct and Paynters took his well, thought we were probably just about the better team and fully deserved our win.

Also, Theo Robinson is a fucking shit bastard wanker and not very good at football either

Great performance tonight. The conditions were terrible it has to be said but we coped with them a lot better than they did. We played some good stuff and the second goal was probably the best i've seen at the CG this season. What a ball, yes, what a ball from JFL. First he beat his man then he produced that and Austin (despite a bad first touch) superbly did the rest. Aimless hoofs from them in the 2nd half meant we were able to control the game. Cuthbert and Greer had their frontmen in their pockets throughout and Ferry was everywhere and my MOTM tonight. I'm sure many would agree.

Of all of them only Macca had a bad game really. I don't think these sort of conditions help his style but he was poor in general with his touch and cross. The rest though as I say were very good. We really need to keep hold of Ferry because he is class when he gets going. JFL is really starting to look good now as well. Here's hoping we carry this little run on for the next 2 games.

To the game, I though everyone was supperb, apart from Macca, who was garbage. Touched the ball about 4 times and gave it away all bar one!

to end a positive- we won a game we'd have lost for the last few years, fucking good work town

Enjoyed the game. Shit weather which caused them far more problems than us once we had it in our favour. Paynters goal was set up by a superb turn and pass/through ball from Austin, which was more than most of our other "strikers" have managed this season.

Their goal was unstoppable. The wind helped it though because it came down off the cross bar. If that'd be in calm conditions it woulda been straight into Lucas' chest.

They pressed alot but never stretched us to any degree worth worrying about. Second half they were comical. The wind really hurt them as the balls they ploughed up into the air regularly came back near them or went out for throw ins. I was worried when Robinson came on because he was getting amusing levels of grief and thought it might irritate him. Fortunately it appeared he didn't quite have the skills to let his iritation affect us.

Austons goal was a peach, class finish and class build up. Shame he got cramp again and was subbed, but no doubt this will lessen with more games and higher levels of fitness.

I'm pleased with the result, although annoyed that before i left i changed the score in the prediction league from 2-1 to 2-0. I bought the new shirt as well. Nice.

Oh, and Moonbowls reminds me of a Charles Causley poem from when i was little.

That's pretty much word for word what my old man said after the game to me on the phone. Gutted I couldn't make the game. It's a cracking result

I really enjoyed that - a great result and considering the conditions a decent game of football. MOM for me was Cuthbert. I thuoght Ferry was poor in the 1st half but I seem to be alone in this. JPM also was poor for the first 40. Both, however, were bloody good in the 2nd. As said, they were better in the 1st, we were better in the 2nd. I also thought Paynter was good tonight. A special mention thuogh to Charlie Austin - scored 1, made 1. Not only that but he's not got a bad first touch and is decent in the air and has a workrate that Hutchinson should look at. Its very early days but we might just have a gem on our hands.  

I thought Hudders looked livelier in the first half and struggled with the conditions in the second half. When we got the ball to feet we passed it around nicely for a while. My one main concern is that we don't challenge enough for what should be a 50/50 ball; the amount of times a loose ball seemed to go straight to a Hudders player was unbelievable (but that could have been down to luck  :) ). All in all a good three points, I had predicted a 2-2 before the game so I was glad I got it wrong.

Superb second half and a really good win - it's results against this caliber of team that will make for a good season. I think they are the best I have seen at the CG this year.

Ferry was awesome, so many good tackles I lost count.

I was pleased that the team made a fuss of LJF for his contribution for the second goal - sometimes it seems like he hasn't really been accepted by the squad. Then at the end he just kind of wandered off on his own, when if he had walked around the stands he would have got a good reception from the fans.

Went to that with my brother in law and his neighbour (who was originally from Bolton  :( ). He was ever so polite every time Bolton scored.

Great performance, especially as once again we were carrying an uninterested passenger in MacNamee

You stick by your players when one result goes against you. This is where Macmahon and King got it wrong. This is why Huddersfield will fail to live up to expectations.

I thought Huddesfield looked an excellent side, and we more than matched them. This season could be good. Very good.

Nice one Town, good win against a team that will be in the mix at the end of the season. I thought they had most of the first half bit we dicked em in the second partly as a result of the conditions and Ferry,Douglas, Cuthbert, Greer, JPM, Lucas, Manky, Billy and of course Charlie. Special mention to JPL for most of his play and in particular his efforts for the second goal. Loved the fact that the knob behind me in the Town End (and I really hope he looks at this site) had to shut the fuck up with his constant rubbishing of JPL from the start for no good reason other than he is his scapegoat and got roundly abused after our winner as a result.

Oh yes and Charlie really is our 'darling' but deserves his own original song....please not.... Charlie Austin dut dut dut dut dut dut !.....that is shit !

and Macca please do the business next game !!

I think you may well have a fair point, Juddie.

Although the conditions were shit, I expected us put up a bit of a fight, only to see the better side take the points.

First half, I thought we looked like the poor relations. They, on the other hand, were snapping into tackles, were shutting us down quickly and they looked very smooth and competent in posession.

Second half, we had some real belief and we made them look mediocre at times. We definately deserved the points.

It's been a long time comming, but the effort, performance and deserved result tonight against quality opposition has ignited a once faint hope that maybe, just maybe, our much loved fucking football club is finally dragging itself towards recovery ;D




 

Fucking hell, we beat Huddersfield not Chelsea!

I'm expecting a 2 million bid from them for Austin today.

Saw the first goal on Sky this morning and it looked (To me anyway!) that Charlie actually touched it on to Paynter.

Great result against the best team we've played in the League at home so far this season.

Charlie Austin is still a little rough around the edges and hopefully will just get better and better.

The whole team (With the exception of Macca and Revell) had a good game.

Macca can't tackle to save his life and Revell was dogshite.

he was facing the wrong way for half of his time on the pitch, let paynter close down their defence at goal kicks to stop a quick short ball (a very good plan in a monsoon)...his shitness was shown when we failed to control a ball that was straight to him and then challenged for a header, managed to face the other way, it hit him on the back of the head and it's a throw to 'uddersfield

i thought there was something about him that we could work with but him and hutchinson have really not covered themselves in glory

It says it all when in 2 starts Austin has just as many goals as Revell, Tope and more than Hutchinson.

I didn't go so cant form an expert judgement about them, but looking at their record, they appear to be fragile away from home, and the football equivalent of flat track bullies at home. I can only see they have played 1 of the top half at home which might explain their  record, so hard to tell where they will finish, so might not be best to get too carried away,yet.

REALLY ENJOYED that last night! How far have we come since the Malpas days?  Ferry was immense in the 2nd half. My Uncle agrees that Douglas is our best player. Does the little things and basically just gets on with it. Where as Lucas has done nothing wrong, it seems like he must have something written in his contract saying he must play. Poor Phil Smith had some cracking games took the shirt when Lucas was out and doesn’t get a look. Smith will go in the Summer no doubt, Austin looked useful, McNamee should be dropped. Each game that passes he looks worse and worse, that said the wind didn’t help his cause. I THOUGHT JP was a bit lazy at times and did’n run the line when he should have.  The Lesh (JFL) is quickly becoming my favourite player. Coming from nowhere and doing the little things. Personally I thought the ball he put in was bloody brilliant although any other ref could have called a foul. Overall an enjoyable game. Thinking of moving from the Town end to the main stands for the second half of the season! Only £10.00 difference, a lot better view, and there is no atmosphere in the Town End anyway…Theo who? Huddersfield's biggest mistake was probably playing against the win for the second half. As our players began to tire we had the wind behind us to give us a push!

The amount of spending and poaching players from under other teams' noses they did over the summer, they are the Chelsea of League One.

Smith is good backup and does well when he comes in, but Lucas is the better all round keeper, first choice everytime if fit.

Cracking game.

Ferry was ace. McNamee was total wank. Austin and Paynter quality.

Only downside was the chicken curry in the legends lounge, (its meant to have chicken in it)
followed by the burger (stone cold)
and finally the hotdog (the roll was so dry i chucked it).

Oh, you only need to put one lid onto the OXO cup (not 3), i tried to take a sip and almost scalded myself.

The beer was alright though :)

He was afforded the old Charlie, Charlie Henry chant at the end by those in the Don Rogers Stand, which I thought a fitting honour. Except the words were cleverly changed to Charlie, Charlie Austin, naturally :)

Thoroughly enjoyable experience last night. Cycling home from the station into a 50mph headwind and with the rain pissing down I still had a smile on my face. Up the Reds!

The problem with new chants is that terrace wit isn't really what it once was.  It's harder to get a song going when you're sat down, so fans opt for the safe route of taking a well known tune and changing the words.

What makes this win all the more sweeter is that Huddersfield are a very good side. Teams like that last season would have took us apart.

My thoughts on last night was that I was disappointed with Uddersfield, as they've got this reputation of scoring goals for fun, but we virtually kept them down to two long range efforts, which one went in the top corner, giving Lucas no chance, whilst the other hit the top of the bar. That speaks volume of the back four and the midfield 3 (not including McNamee) for their tracking back. Douglas seems to be everywhere, and since he's come back from suspension, we look like a different team, especially with Ferry and JPM in support. With the front two working well together and Charlie Austin, looking like a steal...everything is looking bright at the CG.

Haven't seen a game yet this season to be fair. Caught a few towards the end of last season. The actual football part of supporting Swindon is a bit of a risk entertainment wise, especially for the £15-£20 I don't actually have. I can get 10 lamberts and a 3 litre white ace for a bit over £6

Fair enough, but there have been a few offers on this forum for "season ticket available for this game" that you could have picked up on.

Must admit, I wouldn't pay £15-£20 to watch the shit we get more often than not. But I'm happy with a season ticket which works out about £12 a game. If I'd paid £20 to watch some of the games this season I'd be fucking fuming.

That's slightly harsh. I think this season we've played some really good football. The passing and moving at times has been excellent. Obviously you're not gunna get this throughout the whole 90 or maybe not even every game, but then this is League One afterall! Plus it's a bloody step up from last season, that's for sure!

I just get really frustrated with them. One game they play like title contenders and the next relegation fodder. Yet its the same players, the same manager and the same everything - except they turn to shit.

For the record there has been at least two games this season where I seriously contemplated suicide at half time.

But I must admit I like being able to moan after a game when they play shit, I get some kind of bizarre kick from it. And as I said, paying £12 a game makes it more bearable.

You've just tipified most of our fans in one post there Jonny. It's no wonder people moan so much. Lighten up. for sure we all get a bit annoyed at a poor perfornance but every team is going to have a few of them over the course of 46 games. Even Man U had one last night. That's football.

Anyone who goes to a Swindon game expecting full-on entertainment and value for money for the full 90 minutes is deluded and has watched far too much armchair football.
