Title: Atmosphere
Post by: 4D on Sunday, August 16, 2009, 00:26:54
Is it lacking? I know todays game may have failed to get the ground buzzing, but I felt we were out noised by around 500 visiting supporters. To be fair there were two kiddies at the back of the DRS behind me today who were throwing their Spiderman figures around with more enthusiasm than people cheering on the footie (including me).  :( . Can we get the ground rocking on Tuesday please? When it happens it is truly ace  :)

What models did they have? Was it just Spiderman or did they have some ace bad dude ones like Dr. Octopus / Green Goblin / Venom  as well?

fair play they did sing but its like, they only started singing those songs a few years ago so and they didnt exist before then. they're artificial and all the singing in the world won't change that.

Fitton killed any atmosphere in the CG.

Great season ticket prices but not enough price difference in town end. This lead to dilution of town end as people migrated. I guess that's what yeovil meant?

That was the only thing I could think of that he would have meant but those people also chose to move out of the town end and this season they could have moved back.

The view is shit, for a tenner less a season why would anyone switch to the Townend? If the price difference was greater you would see more people in there. Yeovil is right.

Not only has Fitton failed to buy Billy Sharp or Theo Robinson but he and his mate Watkins have failed to outsing 500 non-entities.  Fitton out.

If atmosphere is important to people then they should deal with the worse view and sit in the home end. Not saying everyone has to obviously! BUT if anyone is complaining about the loss of atmosphere due to people moving out of the town end and they're not in the town end themselves then why the fuck don't they themselves move there and start singing.

Just a nervous start. 5-0 first game, 4-1 the second. Fans didnt know what to expect.

Its the South stand that makes the difference though. If they get behind the team the whole place changes.

Poor attendance didnt help either. Couldnt believe how empty the Town End was. Weve missed out on at least 500 match day sales there.

I nearly threw up when they started singing "loyal supporters". They must live in a parallel universe.

I think you are right with all your points. I think some fans have chosen the Saints game over this one, hence the lower than expected crowd.

I dont think Fitton and co realised what a good turnout it was to get 5,000 season tickets last season.

If youve got all those fair weather fans in for a season then you have to make sure you give them something to come back for. As much as you can slag off Norwich sacking Bryan Gunn, it has to be said that in hindsight the board should have kicked Malpas out a lot sooner. Norwich have got a lot of fans to please considering they are third tier.

The board got themselves a massive headstart, but they blew it on Malpas. It will be hard work to get the attendances back up. Romance is definately down. I know quite a few who seem proud they dont feel the urge to anymore. Like they have kicked a nasty habit.

After Leeds League Cup in 2003 we were getting up to around 7,500 home fans. That was with Parkin and Mooney. Its a long road to recover attendace figures now. But I prefer it that way. The board will now be desperate for some good performances to get the fans in. By that I dont mean I expect them to splash the cash, just to install a 'desperate to win ethic' in the club. Not like last season's games when the club were guaranteed 7000 home fans no matter how shite they played. Football is going gay, much fewer away fans comming than a few years ago, even though we are a good day out for proper fans.

Really really need a good performace tuesday.

Maurice Malpas.  :nonono:

I'm expecting 10,000+ on Tuesday, given that some will have chosen that over the MK game, and that a few people will make an extra effort to go because its Saints. The main problem, as already stated, is a lack of people in the Town End. The DRS never makes any noise unless the TE starts it off. If we get some good performances on the pitch we can get the TE busy again and hopefully that will encourage atmosphere across the rest of the ground.

Don rodgers never start the noise themselves i must agree with, block one is full of young teens giving it all mouth to the away fans when in stratton bank which makes me laugh

would be good to get the TE like it was in 2006/07, it was pretty much buzzin every home game including the likes of Stockport, Grimsby, Franchise

My favourite in recent memory was the Mansfield game when we had the bank open for Town fans, throwing songs too and forth, i felt proud that day even though we didn't go up. On the Franchise i did like the way they started the "fuck off" song (what's it called?) with the little intro at the beginning.

It was good last night, my grandson - who has his first season ticket this year - went home and apparently told his mum it was fantastic, they were singing and shouting all match, although Daddy didn't! ::)

Actually said that to two guys in the car park who claimed that was the shittiest ground they had ever visited.  I asked them how long they had been supporting Saints, one guy just said long enough, I said either a short memory or a plastic fan 'cos the Dell was awful!

Oh dear. We all know the legendary "we are a big(ish) club so every thing we experience this season will be pants". To be fair to Leeds supporters (who take plenty of stick), a few have stated they like the County Ground because it's a proper ground.  Will be interesting to see how many full houses the saints get this season  :D

Whenever redevelopment of the CG gets underway the priority should be to transform the TE into a facility with both great views and atmosphere.

yep, like Pompeys home end for example, very simple, good view, and for some reason I am sure some acoustic engineer will explain why, the acoustics are great.
