Title: Gareth Barry joins Manchester City (and Kaka to probably Real Madrid)
Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 18:09:54

Looks like it was all about £££ all along - a season out of Europe to join the Eastlands gravy train.

£12 million? That's a bit steep.

You forget, it's Manchester City. They will be the Chelsea of 2004 - without a league title.

Not arguing with thatm but it sort of conflicts with his 'ambitious' reasons for wanting to leave last year - especially by joining a European-free club.

I'd be very suprised if Manchester City passed Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United next season.

Man City have already said they will be very active in the transfer market,I can certainly see Arsenal being caught.

Although theyve already said top 6 is the plan for next season anyway.

when I say "them" obviously I mean "we"...

Word was that he was getting stupid £'s a week, he'd been promised that he will play all games he is fit for next season and they've shown him the list of players they intend on signing this summer.  I guess Benitez's squad rotation didn't seem so appealing to him and I doubt he got past the £'s per week

Surely that's just like opening up player search on Football Manager and sorting by value?

It seems like a sideways, if not backwards, step for him, but for the huge amounts of money.  Hardly a surprise though - "top footballer in moving clubs for financial gain shock".

"top footballer in moving clubs for financial gain shock".

Or "Man moves to better paid job" shock.

I don't see why footballers are expected to live by different standards. It'd be nice if they did and all, but I don't see why everyone gets all moralistic about it.

I wasn't trying to moralise about footballers (although it did sound like it!) - was trying to make your point.  Although there is an argument that the different between a wage at Villa and at Man City, while a big one, can't alter your life too much.  After all, what can't you buy on £40,000 a week.

Bet he's never been refused a credit card!

Its on Sky Sports news a Spanish radio station confirmed it although his agent (Kaka's dad) said there still in negotiations.  The Milan chairman also said they would struggle to hold onto him due to the amounts of money involved.

It's on AFP wire service, looking more possible.

I liked the quote they found from todays papers...

Quote
I'll tell you this for the last time, the very last. I don't want to leave Milan. To the millions of Milan fans, I tell you that I've made my choice. I've said I want to stay. Leave me in peace, please,"

Kaka "talking" to La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

As and La Gazzetta say Chelsea have entered the fray... Marca says its a done deal... It'll be interesting to see what happens...

Thoroughly appropriate as he can only pass and move backwards or sideways. I hate Barry, the most overrated player in the universe.

Change the record Dave, you hate everyone and all footballers are shit, we get it.  Why do you like football at all if you hate everything about it?

come on, its clear DMR doesnt even watch football.

Gareth Barry has been the 2nd best midfielder in the Premiership over the last 2 seasons.

Presuming Ronaldo is your second, Michael Essien cries into his tea.  I know he's been injured, but he's that damn good anyway.

Edit: And Fat Frank, Gerrard, Alonso, Fabregas and the rest. Although I can see where you're coming from, 2nd is exaggerating slightly.

And then there's Gerrard. And Lampard. Both have had better seasons than Barry. Sorry DV but disagree with that.
