Title: Theme Tune
Post by: 4D on Thursday, April 16, 2009, 06:18:18
Unless my hearing has got worse, I have noticed that there is no longer a "tune" played when the players emerge at the start of the game. Is this likely to reappear in the new season? Any suggestions?

They play that God-awful 'Infinity' song when they emerge for kick off... That has to end

Yes they come out to the vocal version of Guru Josh Project's Infinity 2008, The non vocal version is very good but either version does not belong at football.

If they beamed the players onto the pitch with Star Trek style transporters then they wouldn't need 'running out' music. Typical example of where the new board haven't delivered on promised investment.

When did Rockin' Robin change to the McFly version?

I knew there was a reason why I never get in the ground early. It's embarassing...

Complaining about the version of the song when saying it's embarrassing is a bit like saying Harold Shipman was bad because he smelt funny.

:D good point well made. I think I missed a sentence out in the middle. It's not the version that's embarassing, in fact the McFly version may well be better. The whole thing is embarassing.

Unfortunately some random player we'd never seen before would be beamed onto the pitch and would at some point die during the game.

Ah, so it's not my hearing. Just to add to your comment DV, the only time I can understand what is coming out of the tannoy is when I'm in the bogs. I think that is why when the guy does the "good afternoon to the DR stand" he gets little or no reaction.  :director:

Good point, well made!  Actually, where I sit it seems not too bad when the guy is speaking from the press box or wherever his eyrie is situated, as soon as we go to the  pitchside idiot you cannot hear a bloody thing.  No doubt there are areas in the DRS that will disagree.

You can hear it clearly in the bogs and perfectly about a mile down the cycle track that goes down the back of the Nationwide past St. Joes and eveutally all the way down to greenbridge!!!

Songs or tunes to run out to should always be unique (until some other club nicks it), regardless of how good or bad it is. Some kind of local connection should also be a factor. Therefore, XTC's 'Senses Working Overtime' should be the one. Not particularly stirring, but then does any one of these tunes ever get the crowd going? At least 'SWO' mentions 'football':

And all the world is football-shaped
It's just for me to kick in space
And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste
And I've got one, two, three, four, five
Senses working overtime
Trying to take this all in.
I've got one, two, three, four, five
Senses working overtime
Trying to taste the difference
'Tween a lemon and a lime
Pain and the pleasure
And the church bells softly chime.

Failing that, how about the theme song to 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum'? For years I thought 'B. O. B. O. Y. S. ...' could be replaced with 'S. T. S. T. F. C. boys to entertain youuuu'. I've never had the guts to try it out in the TE though. Wonder why?

It's been discussed many times on here, but this is the best suggestion i've seen. Even better if we could drag Andy Partridge down to do it live, and with a snippet after we score.

I remember sitting in the townend around 96/97 ish and them trying to play Simply the best when we scored. Unfortunately we'd hit the post so it was a bit embarrassing.

Its possibly the worst, cheesiest and most desperate way of trying to generate atmosphere ever. They've started doing it at Twickenham for England games.  >:(

I'd rather have nothing, but in this day and age of lamebrains rule it aint going to happen, so i'd rather have something decent if we have to, alas we wont.

I'm sure we've used James Brown after goals recently. I remember because I know I've drunkenly done a little jig in my seat after we've scored.

I also remember we used to use Eat My Goal quite a lot as well, mainly when Parkin was here.

Memories of sweaty nights at Level 3, and in honour of the great BTN fanzine.

Turn it up

Surely it should be the "Moonraker" theme from the bond film? It goes on a bit but the first 30 secs would be enough, it would be unique to STFC and have some relevance....

We should record the TE singing it, play that back at the start of the next match so they go even faster, then play that version and so on until some peoples hands drop off.

XTC's SWO is a great shout, although the 'Swindon music for Swindon people' preference is a tad fucking Royston Vasey. I'd rather SWO or something else by XTC - We're All Light or Statue Of Liberty would be equally ace as well - than a load of shit that means fuck all to the town or the fans though.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know who's actually responsible for the CG music? Is it a club employee who does other duties during the week or (likely) a self regarding retard who's limited musical collection comprises shit music from the 80's with some token Ska / two tone tracks thrown in that he's determined to foist on the rest of us?

If it's the former, and enough fans bitch for long enough, the club will probably do something about it. If it's the latter option, I hereby volunteer my services to set light to the cunt's entire CD collection just before the season kicks off.

The club rightly binned the embarrassing pikey-on-the-mikey last season and they'd be doing themselves and us a great service by now binning the shit DJ. And if you're reading this AF and co, don't let the cunt convince you he'll change his ways by some playing modern music as he pleads for one more chance. Whoever he his, his music taste is clearly shit and outdated and, as soon as your back's turned he'll be slipping Republica's 'Ready To Go' or anothe 'Selector' CD in the slot. sack the cunt and be done!

If they could also get shot of the Amstrad music center currently masquerading as the grounds PA system, that would be fucking ace  8)
