Yep. My body clock isn't sufficiently disturbed to tell me otherwise.

Will be a good night as well (As long as we don't lose!) Very nervous about the game, but I always am when we play the wurzels. Everything hinges, imo, on how our midfield performs.

I'll take a scrappy win, I'd even accept a bore draw. What I want though is for us to destroy them.

What sort of weather can we expect in Yeovil's micro-climate today?

It looks like there is going to be a match preview on Sky Sports 1 in a minute...

Forecast down here is for light, scattered showers during the game.

It's pretty windy at the moment.

If you can't play football in those conditions then you should probably hang up your boots.

Match preview currently on Sky Sports 1...

Hartlepool's loss last night was helpful.

Looking forward to this game, its going to be a tough but a draw would be just great.

After Northampton Tuesday I have been looking forward to this all week.

Its another big big game, a win today will go a long way to confirming survival.

Should be a large away following and a good atmosphere, has all the makings of a great away day.

Come on Swindon, put them away!

Getting ahead of myself, I think that if we can continue to hammer out wins it sets things up beautifully for next season. Last time we had a really strong finnish to a season was 2002-03, and look what happened after that?

Im sick and at home, but COME ON YOU REDS! (We'd better not be wearing our away kit!).

Townenda, are you heading back to the TE next season?

Not sure yet, I do miss singing all game and the atmosphere from a few years back was great so if it could ever return to that it would be appealing.

Will make a decision on my April pay day on which stand, are you boys heading back Spencer?

Yes mate, we are all going back. Ive sneaked in there with my DRS season ticket a few times, and its nice and empty again, so hopefully plenty of room at 2.58pm at the first stairwell.

This season has been the most dissapointing I can ever remmember in terms of away supporters on the bank, which is when you get the real fun of being in the south stand. Just Leeds, Leicester (half full!!?) and surely Rovers on the bank in the league, which is a pitiful turnout. It seems to be the way things are going, so in my view the south stand isnt really worth the half time beer anymore. Plus the side stands are going up to £22 matchday, which wont be popular.

And to be fair, Ive been quite impressed with the TE these last few months, much better support.

From what I remember it was almost impossible to create much of an atmosphere on that open terrace

Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, March 28, 2009, 11:23:13
On an open terrace you think you are quiet, but actually the other team can usually hear you loud and clear.

Bournemouth last season I went in the home end, and you could hear it clear as day from the Swindon fans in the open end. You just have to be persistent.

Classic open end away day - last game v Oxford at the Manor? Problem that day was that everyone was singing different songs all the time. Classic game. Still awaiting that to be uplifted to youtube.

Noble might take a game or two to get going.  This is the best time to play them before the team gets settled.  Skiverton may be out.

After the win at Northampton, a point will be acceptable.  It keeps the distance as it was at kick-off.

Title: Re: Yeovil vs. Swindon Match Day Thingy.
Post by: santasdead on Saturday, March 28, 2009, 13:30:25
A win today takes us 8 points clear of the bottom. If brighton fail to beat tranmere then i think the only team to be a threat is yeovil. i can't see them making the 8pt gap with the games remaining, so a win today will keep us up. a draw will be satisfactory, and a loss will see us going back in time two weeks to the times where going down was the only thing people could think of.

that being said,im optimistic.

Title: Re: Yeovil vs. Swindon Match Day Thingy.
Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, March 28, 2009, 13:41:08
A draw would be a superb result today, for the reasons others have given.  A few weeks ago I was saying only wins would do...but having now put a few together, we can afford a few draws in games like these.

That said, a win would be special today.  It would start me thinking in terms of probably staying up (rather than hopefully staying up.)

Yeovil have Northampton on Tuesday at home.  With today, Yeovil have two games to save their season.  They should be nervous.

Pook on the bench.

Not quite Spence, it was automatic up until Thursday 5 pm, after that it is at the discretion of the Football League.  If it wouldn't relegate a particular team by applying it now, it would go on next season.  If it would relegate them it goes on this season.  The same goes for promotion spots as well, ie if they still got promotion after a deduction they would start with a minus figure next season.

I think it shows without the loan players we wouldnt be good enough to stay up.

The team assembled in the summer was not League 1 standard.

Thats fairly damning on the board and Malpas and our own players, and its something that we should not brush aside. We need better players this summer, whatever league we are in.

Fair enough, certainly damning of Malpas and players. Not sure about board tho - we all thought the team we started the season with should have been good enough to finish mid-table or even push for play-offs. I remember some pretty high hopes at the start of the season, and a load of people slating Malpas (probably fairly) because he wasn't getting us in the top half with a team that should have been challenging for play-offs etc. Truth is the players weren't good enough in the final analysis, but I don't know that I'd expect the board to spot that any more than we did

I think the board would argue that their outlay was proportionate to the outlay of the fans.  If the take up of season tickets had been higher (the failure to hit the 6,000 target was obviously a disappointment to them), so would the spending have been.  Fits in with their desire to run the club on a commercial basis.

Luckily, they will have one year more experience of running a football club this summer compared with last summer.  They're on a learning curve.

Bollocks, it was evident at the end of last season that we were in deep shit.  We got some points against teams that had nothing to play for right at the end.

Malpas sucked the life out the team as soon as he showed up.  Signings over the summer were just not good enough.  The opening game against Tranmere gave a totally false impression.  Teams learned it was easy to punish us.  It has taken Wilson some key loan signings and moving Heaven and Earth to give us a chance to stay up.

We didnt spot it Paul, Malpas didnt spot it, but I think a decent manager (like Wilson) Would have spotted it. The bookies also spotted it, they all had us down as the 5th worst team in the league.

Ardiles, in the summer we payed around £70,000 for a total waste of money called Yinka Casal. We also signed Nalis (probably on half decent wages) and his legs have gone. So there has been a waste, its not as if we havnt spent.

Yes and that's where the board did go wrong but I don't know that I'd necessarily expect the board to spot the team wasn't good enough having got that wrong. Any board has to rely on the advice of the manager they've appointed.
Quote
The bookies also spotted it, they all had us down as the 5th worst team in the league.
They also offered 50-1 on Cox being top scorer and at least one, IIRC paddy power, was offering 25-1 on Tommy "Playing in Spain this season" Mooney being top scorer. I still maintain that at this level most of the pundits and the bookies do little more than look at "Big club/money to spend = will go up; Smaller club/financial trouble=will struggle" then stick a pin in the board for most of the rest.

The bookies didn't think so.  I couldn't understand why the panic button wasn't hit after six weeks of Malpas.  The guy was delusional, and had already nearly destroyed Motherwell.

It wasnt even the first time the team had looked totally destroyed on his watch.

They were an utter shambles just 5 weeks after he took over at home to Walsall, the team had been totally ruined.

The board ejected him because of the lost revenue from defeats in cup competitions. But that pressure should have been put on by fans not turning up for league games. We were played off the park at home in successive weeks, had a captain who said he was 'scared' to play at home. If that had happened in other seasons we would have dropped to the 5,000 fans mark, and it would have put pressure on from the top. As it was no pressure was exerted and we slid further into the shit.

The board are clever to see that season tickets are a way to avoid being held hostage by the fans. But in this case the fans were 100% right and the board were wrong.

Paul, if Cox was 50-1 that was very early in the summer. By the time I went to put a bet on he was 16-1 and I didnt think it was worth it!

There was still at least 1 offering 50-1 and 2 or 3 bookies offering 40-1 a week before because I spent that week "meaning to get round to it" and have been kicking myself ever since.

What a lacklustre display, you would never have thought we were trying to fight for survival in this league. No one could control the ball, we couldnt string 2 passes together - played like strangers in fact. Goal hmmm Greer's fault or smiths? Harsh to say smith as he slipped when coming out.

Too many players on that pitch today looked substandard - how after looking good in recent weeks? Do they think they've done enough already?! If so told should be a rocket up the backside, Wilson was on the side spitting feathers just like us on the terraces!

Amankwah - is SHITE. 2nd half gave the ball away up field...Paynter bust a gut to get back and defend in the right back position, Wankbag just jogged back?!

McNamee - doesnt look interested. When will he realise when we're losing his dancing around the ball isnt what is needed? Just get the ball down and cross it. DOESNT/CANT tackle or defend

Kennedy - Looked miles out of his depth.

I cant even be bothered to do the rest

they play in league 1 for a reason-ie they aint all that.all of em have good games, but play at this level as equally they all have shite games too.anybody consistantly good will step up a level.
getting them to be more good than  shit regularly will bring success to a club at our level.

Fucks sake. That was wank.

Paynter had a chance, but didn't place his shot well enough to beat the keeper with the pace he shot with. Cox had what looked like a good chance with a header and headed high up in the air. That was about it.

To make matters worse, Robson-Kanu looks to have fucked his hamstring, that resulted in leaving us with the midfield that was gash and prompted Wilson to bring in HRk and OTJ in the first place.

To make matters worse Yeovil plain just wanted it more and without a few smart Smith saves we could have conceeded 3 or 4.

So a bad loss, injuries to hrk and Morrison and not much else.

Oh and for the record - Greer's mistake for the goal, but not having ago and Amankwha looked lethargic and shit.

Just back as well, what a major dissapointment after the recent improvement in form.

Our players thought we would just turn up and win, they didn't bank on the other team wanting it more.

Showed once again that most of these players are gutless wankers who don't care enough.

Agree with the sentiments that Callum looked out of his depth on the wing, Amankwah's first bad performance in a while he was poor today, Jack Smith should go in the summer hes terrible, Greer was shaky for the first time, Timlin back to inconsistent after a poor display, Nalis invisible, Paynter bit sluggish and Cox quiet apart from a massive sitter he missed second half.

Only player to come out with credit is Phil Smith who kept the score down with some key saves.

We need Wilson to work really hard this week on getting there heads back in the game as we will have to beat Crewe now.  Its very tight down the bottom and we are still in deep deep shit.

Still confident we have the right manager so hope we will have enough to take us over the finish line.

Bloke who sits next to me has £20 each way at 50, or maybe it's 40 e/w. He's on for a grand if Coxy comes out top I know that. And he lumped on about week and a half before start of season if memory serves

Quite a few of us got 40/1 and 50/1, myself included so can definitely vouch for that.

We were absolutely shocking all over the park.  Very difficult to pick out anyone who cared.

Kennedy is a long way off the first team and making a substitution in the 2nd half - why oh why Pook?  I know Nalis had to come off but I'd rather he'd thrown Razak on in place!

So disappointed, especially in front of so many fans - shit as our fans were - although I suppose most will argue "they had nothing to sing about".  Bottom line is that a smaller contingent further away from home is far better.

I would say most of that was down to no roof, the atmosphere just kept falling flat when ever anyone tried to sing as you could barely hear it.  If it was a proper stand you would have probably heard people more although to be fair the players gave us barely anything to sing about.

We were always going to lose this game...given Yeovil had never scored a league goal against us at Huish...they're just about the most shot shy home side in the league, and had only won 3 at home all season.  Throw in about 20% of the crowd being Town fans, and we've seen it all before.

A performance of the utmost incompetence, that puts us right back in the shit.  We've taken a point from Cheltnumb and Yeovil...terrible.

A good day for Quiet and Ashamed though...a very solid showing, 99.9% easily overcoming the efforts of L and P.

And I didn't miss the Castle...so not all bad.

My highlight of today was meeting STFC dave for the first time. I picked him up from within the prestigious walls of the University of Bath with high expectations - so when he came to me at half time and showed me how he'd managed to stick his hands together with a piece of chewing gum, I despaired somewhat (only joking Dave, but I had to tell this :D).

Otherwise, yeah, very shit. Very disappointing, probably best not to linger on it.

At least the bookies still believe we have the best chance of avoiding the drop!

Cheltenham 1/100
Hereford 1/10
Brighton 4/9
Yeovil 11/8
Crewe 5/2
Hartlepool 3/1
Leyton Orient 7/2
Carlisle 7/2
Northampton 7/2
Swindon 9/2

On a similar note a highlight for me was the second half burger bought by ISOB...which seemed to consist of no bread roll, two burgers, sandwiching a bit of bacon, smothered in the contents of a small bottle of brown sauce. Hardcore.

Ok, now I've had my dinner I'll post a proper review...

Two players looked interested today. McNamee was running all over the park with no support and crap service, and Cox was doing something very similar. They both seemed to want the ball constantly, but the rest of the team were incapable of making space or playing an accurate pass.

Every time we got the ball forward we got stuck and had no options, we lost the ball, and somehow managed to find ourselves getting caught short at the back. I have no idea where the midfield was today.

Kennedy had a poor game, but I'd argue that Wilson should have played him LB, with Smith RB and Amankwaah on the right wing. Amankwaah was probably the worst player for us today. He looked lazy, apathetic, and generally like a Sunday League player.

We were hit hard by injuries early in the game, but that's no excuse for the lifelessness of the team today. Yeovil weren't very good, they just looked like they were actually willing to tput some effort in and for that alone they deserved the points.

Dont agree with that at all! He got the ball a fair bit and gave a shit ball to someone else or wasted it, or danced around the ball then lost it. Looked interested? You've got to be kidding

Yeovil were poor and we were worse.

Players were largly shit.

Phil Smith had a few decent saves and Ifil was well, Ifil. Come good tackles some quality defending and then hoofs into the corner which went to no one.

We gave away too much possesion.

Timlins had his 5 good games now its time for him to be utter shit for 5 games.

I hope HRK injury isnt too long term, we clearly missed him. We also missed OTJ in the middle.

Makes next weeks game with Crewe a must win. We still need 8 points and I wouldnt fancy us to pick up more than one on our travels. So have to beat Crewe and Orient.

Title: Re: Yeovil vs. Swindon Match Day Thingy.

also, Wilsons choice of subs and the use of those subs was wrong today.

Kennedy the left back at left wing
Smith the right back at left back
McNamee the left winger on the right wing
Amankwaah the right wing back at right back

To me Smith to right back, Kennedy to left back, Amankwaah to right wing and McNamee to left wing made more sense.

Odd, that we've had Marshall on the bench alot recently and the one time we need a sub winger he is no where to be seen!?

....and when you're 1-0 down with 15 minutes to go in a relegation 6 pointer and you can only use one sub out of the following 3. Peter Brezovan, Michael Pook and Hamdi Razak. Michael Pool is easily the most illogical choice of them all. Seriously, what the fuck? The kid is non-league standard and a midfielder. That was fucking pointless, just like the whole of today really.

Personal highlight was Jayohaitchen suddenly realising Rich and Si are brothers....

I can't really add much than has already been posted. We were shit - clearly didn't want to win and Yeovil did.

Personally I thought that Paynter and Cox gave their usual effort but the rest of the team shouldn't have bothered turning up. Good turn out by the Town fans, although quiet but then it's rather difficult to raise any kind of noise for a bunch of cunts that clearly showed they couldn't be bothered.

Yeovil though not great, fought for every ball and should have won by more. I'm so pissed off

Ahhhh one of those games (we've had many of them this season) where we simply didn't raise our game enough and show that we wanted to win. We badly missed OTJ which is what worried me before the game if i'm honest. Losing HRK and Morrison was also a huge blow and we showed nothing throughout the game really. Just goes to show that when Cox and Paynter get the service they will do the job. Today they didn't get the service and although Yeovil were just as shit in some ways we deserved to lose.

I won't be losing sleep over it. We have to win 3 of our last 6 and 3 of them are winnable home games. Today was just one of them games. Still think we'll stay up.

what a total let down today was. we were shit, not one player had a decent game. amankwaah shouldnt be playing professional football, he simply cant control the ball, the very basics of the game. i still  cant understand how jack smith gets near the first team, an average conference player at best. nalis looked totally dead in the middle, and although played a few decent passes around, chased shadows for most of the game. i feel sorry for cox to be playing in such a poor team, he got no service today at all. if he leaves over the summer, then fair play to him. we really missed kanu going off, as he looks like the only bright spark we have. macca is too lightweight and is obsessed with stepovers and has little end result. phil smith kept us in it today with a few decent saves. i was also totally disappointed with us fans today as well. although a good turn out, we were silent from the first to the last minute. dont blame it on the lack of a roof or the shit performance, we all stood there numb for the entire game which really disappointed me. what a total let down, i was really looking forward to today.

I really hope that was just a bad day at the office.

Phil Smith - I don't really know whether he slipped for the goal or not, but he was left totally exposed by Greer not dealing with a long ball. Made some decent saves second half. And if the grey haired cunt in front of me slagged him off any more, I would have twatted him. 7.
Amankwaah - utter utter gash today. Should have worn a green shirt. I would have red carded him to get the fucker off the pitch today as we'd have been better without him. 0. (and that's generous).
Jack Smith - only slightly better than Wanky. Offered P Smith no options when playing from the back. 3.
Greer - mistake led to the goal, and he suffered for it. Poor game. 5.
Morrison - crocked by that cunt Forbes early. We were OK up till then. Hope its not too serious.
Nalis - who? jogged around a bit, but fuck all else. Shoot him and use him for dog food (its the French way isn't it?). 3.
Timlin - couldn't pass to a red shirt today. Poor game. 5.
HRK - didn't really do much, but we looked completely useless after he went off injured. 6.
McNamee - ran around a lot, lots of stepovers, quick feet, no end product. Playing on the right meant he was cutting inside all the time. Can't tackle and left Wanky exposed all the time (which they exploited big time). 5.
Paynter - little service, couple of opportunities, touch of a rapist at times which meant the ball kept coming back. Tried hard, little output. 6.
Cox - missed a glorious header with about 10 to play. Ran around a lot but nowt came off today. 6.

Ifil - well, just Ifil. Some good moments, some bad. Generally did OK and was better than Greer today. 6.
Kennedy - lost on the LW and offered no threat. A lot of the crowd got on his back too which IMO was off.He was poor though, but to pick on a young lad thrown in was not on. Wilson got it wrong with the positioning, and someone made the point earlier that it was an odd formation (DV I think). 4.
Pook - not on for long thankfully. Ran around a bit, did fuck all. 3.

I have to say I was expecting much more. The fans weren't all that today - poor effort IMO, very few songs, no sustained chanting and all I heard after 15 minutes was moaning.

Good to meet a few of you yesterday (jj - sound geezer, talk talk and I think STFC Dave in the pub, and probably more). Just feel disappointed today.

I'm 0 for 3 this season, and the good news is I'm not going to any more games this season.

There was nothing Loud and Proud today in my opinion.  There were streamers at the beginning but that was it.

Your right. we were shit, we made the tactical decision which failed miserably, knew there was a few singing on the left side of the stand so we went to the right, but no one sang. So we tried starting songs and it died a death, Along with no roof. In all was probably a watered down version of a few yeras ago with the streamers etc. Accept any criticisms. The performance on the pitch didn't help.

Anyway a good day away on the mini bus including singing (or killing) some classic songs on the way home. Went back into the arrow pub after the game to watch the England match, had some food and a kick about outside, was a good day apart from the football. Few people saw my tattoo and said it was better than the picture made out which is true IMO.. Only downside from what I am told is Alan's back window got put through on his car after he dropped the mini bus off. Not sure of the details where it was parked but.... still a shit thing to happen after a good day with mates.

The match was awful. The abuse amankwaah is getting is a bit out of order imo, he's been one of our better consistent players over the past few months. Yes he had a very poor game, but he's league one for a reason. And as bad as the players were, and they were, a lot has to rest on wilsons tactical decisions, in particular his blind faith in a rigid 442 that didn't look like working all match.

I really don't know how the fuck I managed to drive home today, I still feel a bit pissed now. If I'd stayed out with you I'd probably be nearly dead.

Ummm, I probably wouldn't advertise that on a football forum. Bit too late now though.

Why? I know it's wrong, but if you mean the OB could read it they'd be pretty hard pushed to prosecute without any evidence.

Just thought you may get a lot of negative reaction. The Dell Boy threads spring to mind and of course my infamous one.

Good to meet a few of you yesterday (jj - sound geezer, talk talk and I think STFC Dave in the pub, and probably more).

Good to meet you at last too, Coxy.  :thumb:

Only got updates by constantly updating my blackberry in Madrid, much to the ire of Mrs Flash.

Disappointed...i expected a draw to be honest.

Will we ever do things the easy way?

(Except the Div 2 Championship season)

Since when did that L&P happy-clappy bullshit start up again then? I thought those plastic cunts had fucked off ages ago. Please don't tell me we've got to put up with their tamborine banging and Cliff fucking Richard playing on the sound system for the rest of the season...

Twas a shit game indeed on Saturday. I don't think any of our players covered themselves in glory against a truly cunting awful bunch of Wurzels who deserve to be in the fucking basement. Mind, despite our recent form and results we were just a shite as them, which is a major fucking worry with only a few games to go.

Six more points should be enough. Gulp.

I don't think I've ever heard Cliff on the PA. But Dylan and a bunch of tambourines would be sweet as. I might even ask the club if they could do it for the Rovers game.

I can't imagine how bad Dylan's harmonica would sound overr the PA at the CG.

Would the Byrds version of Mr Tambourine man be an acceptable compromise?

That would probably work better, easy to clap along to, although we'd still manage to do it out of time with the song.

35 to 42 seconds probably sums up the way a Town fan has felt for a while.
