How was Sunday lunch?

That's this Sunday mate - well the one at the white horse - although my mum's Sunday roast she cooked was lovely!!

Come on Triseros, should we be a little more interested in your recent bet than you're letting on?  I have to be honest although CC's not top of my wishlist, he is higher up than Richard Money.  RM's appointment doesn't excite me at all.

Are you saying the Adver got it spectatculry wrong on Saturday?

Title: Re: I just put £50 on...
Post by: @MacPhlea on Monday, December 15, 2008, 12:08:00
Well for me it's about the law of averages...  I'm not going to pretend I have inside info, just a modicom of common sense

Calderwood is on the the verge and I couldn't see Forest standing in his way after Forests game on Saturday every Forest supporter was calling for Calderwoods head... up til then the board gave him full support

Gary Speed is likely but the compo maybe too high and there is a rumour they wanted Cox in return - too costly to us...

Richard Money is still a possibility but for me it's taking too long for it to be him - compo wouldn't be huge and if rumours are true about a release clause for a management position then he'd be here by now so for me it's unlikely.

To be honest, I don't really care who the new boss is, he'll get my 100% support even if we end up relegated

I need to make some money pretty quickly, I know you work at club Triseros, is it definitely worth a good punt ....
On a scale of 1-5, 1 being no chance, 2 outside chance, 3 good, 4 I've heard it is going to happen, 5 dead cert, how would you rate Calderwood's chance of being the next manager

As if Fitton would go for that.

I'd be happy with Speed with an experienced No 2 alongside him, although wouldn't the appointment of Speed go against Fitton's criteria of what he was looking for in a manager (i.e. experienced) ?

I'd also be surprised if Fitton has had permission to speak to Calderwood, he is already a manager trying to save a team from relegation, I don't know that many teams would give permission to their manager to speak to another club about a job while he is in a job at a higher level.

I think this proves that absolotely nobody other than the board know who are the 3 names on the shortlist - personally as long as he is here by the weekend I don't care but we desperately need a new man in place.

Calderwood was definately interviewed which intimates that we have been given permission to speak to him - the reason they would do that is because it would save Forest a fair bit in Compensation as they would not need to sack him... They're happy, we're happy, Calderwoods happy...

Will CC be the first ever manager to be released by mutual happiness? I'd be happy too, £10 @ 12/1 = nice Christmas present for the Mrs (well nicer that it was going to be!).

But I remain unconvinced he'd be the man for the job.

From everything that's happened over the weekend I think it's Speed, which would excite me more than Money, although it would be a bigger risk.

If it was down to Calderwood and Money, I'd take either, although I would feel slightly underwhelmed given the excitement created by all the names branded about.

Whoever it is, I'm interviewing them for the programme on wednesday. So I should find out soon, assuming he joins before the  deadline...

Not sure I'm too fussed re: Byrne, I know he's been loyal and loves the club etc, but I don't know what he brings to the table when it comes to the first team. I know he can spot a player, but I'd like to think our new manager could also do that?

but someone on here earlier was right, Speed wouldn't fit Fitton's description.

I'd be very surprised if we'd talked to calderwood, given that he's involved in a relegation scrap, and like Paul said, if it was Money he'd be here by now.

Literally not a clue.

Title: Re: I just put £50 on...
Post by: Power to people on Monday, December 15, 2008, 15:18:04
And Speed would have the contacts throughout the game and probably appoint his own No 2, but isn't it down to our network of scouts to find these players and recomend them, after all isn't that what they pick up money for ?

Speed would be a big risk though.

From all the press reports today it's would seem that Speed was the No.1 choice but Sheff Utd wanted some considerable compensation. Whether that means Fitton's given up on Speed and gone for Money or Calderwood instead remains to be seen.

Title: Re: I just put £50 on...

agreed, scouts are there to recommend players but a good manager knows every player in every league anyway. Redknapp are ferguson could tell you every player in every club in England, and Andy King was the same here. Luggy was another, he knew what type of player he wanted and knew where to get them.

I would expect our new man to come in and know premiership potential loanees, as well as available players at this level and below. Money, I'm guessing would, calderwood ,too. Speed maybe not, there's just something about him that would excite me. Not in that way, obviously. Not yet anyway!

It was something Fitton said a while back about getting in someone like McAllister at Leeds, who he could be sure would be given time by the supporters to get things right, that convinced me Calderwood was in the running at that point. I don't know whether he still is, but I do hope so...

Title: Re: I just put £50 on...
Post by: Power to people on Monday, December 15, 2008, 15:48:45
I agree that Speed (has he done his coaching badges ?) has the potential but I would reiterate he does need a no 2 with him that knows lower league football and he knows he can trust, Byrne would be an unknown to him, as with Speed having never played or managed at this level then it may take him time to sort his tactics so he needs someone he can rely on...a manager is only as good as his coaching staff

Speed would more than likely get bums on seats as well - and perhaps all the Mongs on thisis will be happy with him as he is a 'big name'.

Time is not on the new man's side though with games coming thick and fast over the crimbo period, although with no game on Jan 3 it will give him tme to get to know player personality's on the traning ground and do a good bit of coaching with him.

Although with Fitton now departed for the US, it does make you wonder if it has been put on hold until his return...

Is he injured as I see he has not been in Sheff Utd team for a few weeks ?

So ,far we've had about 5 'definate' new managers. I've jumped the gun a few times and got excited about names, only to realise after a couple of days that the media are about as accurate as the forums.

Whoever it is, Money, Calderwood, Speed, Dowie, Holoway, Ward, Cotterill, Poyet, etc, etc, I hope this week sees an end to it all.

At the moment, I just want an appointment......

It probably deserves its own topic. Completely out of the blue - presumably has a job lined up somewhere.

Title: Re: I just put £50 on...
Post by: juddie on Monday, December 15, 2008, 16:17:56
I agree Speed would need a number 2, but I would have thought he'd want his own man, like anyone would. Any sensible manager  would want someone they trust - no manager in their right mind would agree to the job without the choice of bringing in their own team of sorts, why would they?

Another thiong we have to consider is that the compensation Fitton talks of might not just be confined to the new manager, but also their no.2 as well. Look at Luggy's appointment, his cronies were working and all three had to be paid for.

If Calderwood hasn't come yet, it would suggest Forest want to keep him. Unless they're hanging on for some compo, which would  ease the burden on bringing in their next manager. I think the reason we all thought it was him was because he seemed close to the sack and Fitton had spoken to Hoddle.

As for Money,I couldn't see there being much of a delay given the contract details involving him taking a manager's job revealed on here earlier (if true). That and the carnage at St James Park, if I was Money I would feel quite uncertain given  the talk of a new boss or possible takeover, but I'm sure he'd be here already. I think the adver took a punt on him and got it wrong. I don't think it's Money at all. Unless somebody else says no and he's second choice..

Whatever way you look at it, every option has details that conflict with things that have been by the board/bookies/fans/local press.

My top 2 two would still be Steve Cotterill or Peter Taylor. The first has been ruled out and the second has never really been a front runner according to anyone, although the compo delay could explain his situation, wycombe would be loathe to see him go.

So who else would that leave if not Money, Calderwood and Speed? Danny Wilson? He fits the description to a tee, but if he's resigned then he wouldn't involve any compo. I'd like tho think we'd set our sights higher than him anyway, but then IMO any of these candidates would be better than what we had at the start of the season, so we're not really in a losing position. The only downer of the whole thing is that the manager will be under pressure from day one, as a result of our lowly position.

Whoever gets the job will get my support. None of us will ever agree on the perfect manager, so not everyone is going to like whoever's appointed.

Either way we do need a manager and quick. It seems to me as though the players know it's not going to be Byrne and subsequently he's not having the same impact he had a few weeks back. I'm all for taking the time to get the right man, but we have to take our slump into consideration - we do actually need a manager and fast.
