Didnt look particularly good against Salisbury when me and Hertha saw him but hes young and had crap service so who knows.

I didn't realise he was only 17 due to his lankiness. At that age I would get him on board, he's obviously got something about him, good pace and strength and a dose of natural ability, his positioning and interplay need working on but there's plenty of time for that I guess.

What is he, river police or something?

Title: Re: Nile Ranger
Post by: Power to people on Thursday, July 31, 2008, 11:31:02
I assume the draw back maybe that is he will have to be given a pro contract rather than youth deal so would be a lot more pressure and be expected to break through and he has quite a bit of competition in front of him

get him signed on then send him on loan, what have we got to lose.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger
Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, July 31, 2008, 15:58:18
Hes a bit more than a naughty scamp Charlotte...hes just been released from young offenders institute for illegal missdemeanors!

Thats why he was released by the Saints...but you live and learn and everyone is allowed one problem in their past and not be berated for it.

Hopefully he is reformed and has learnt his lesson.

Sign him up so we have the opportunity to sell him to a mid table prem team for silly money.

It's win, win.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger

Am I right!?!

Well Mr Byrne spoke to us last week and basically stated he thinks he will make us several million in transfer fees in the near future, the phrase....Pies and skies springs to mind tho.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger

he's certainly worth signing but if we think that so will the big clubs

I have a feeling that a lot of bigger clubs won't go near him (for now) because of his antics.

What exactly has he done?

I can't imagine Newcastle wanting another problem child on their hands.

I'm not sure - but he's been at a young offenders institute (as mentioned) ... He can room with Joseph Barton, a lethal mix.

MM stated after the Supermarine game he was playing at Hungerford tonight and then he would decide about him. Unless someone from Newcastle was at the supermarine game I would find it a bit odd that they have suddenly decided to give him a trial

Nile Ranger (Nilos Ranger as is his proper name) was arrested for stealing or robbery however you wish to put it, he has his own Myspace page.

He is seriously street boi as they say "on the street"  ::)

this is his myspace page........enjoy.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=120797284

And I contacted him via facebook and asked him straight about Newcastle........

His answer was blunt.....

NO!

He'll probably turn up, by helicopter from Newcastle, tonight for the Hungerford game for a bit of match practise before signing for them.

Maybe.

if i put that into babelfish translator, i get this:

I am looking forward to playing football this weekend for Swindon. I like it here. There is a man called Budgie who shouts a lot but he is nice really. i scoreded an overhead kick the other night and it didn't hurt when i landed or anything. I'm going to be as good as Wayne Rooney when i'm older. People say i am going to move to Newcastle but i'm not as it's too cold there and they talk funny. Anyway, i have to go because my mum is calling and i'm having fish fingers for my tea. After tea i am allowed to watch Eggheads before it's up the wooden hill to bed-fordshire for me. Bye!

Nile scored on his debut for Newcastle U18s yesterday, so when he was here he scored 6 in 4, for Newcastle he has now scored 3 in 2.
From what i seen of this lad playing for the youth team here we have made a massive mistake not taking him.
And he would have chosen us ahead of Newcastle if we offered him £300 p/w instead of the £150 we did offer

Yeah, I think you are half right.

He seems in top shape. Physically there is no problem. But he does seem to have a gap between his own mind and reality. I bet he didnt take any responsibility for missing 2 chances at Cheltenham last week. He was too busy dreaming of the Premier League again.

There must be a reason this squad continues to underperform. I think its a lack of focus and some players not taking responsibilty for the team failing. Fair play to Nalis and Smith this weekend holding their hands up. But you dont hear Cox doing that. Needs to become more of a team player, get his head out of the clouds.

He hasnt backed up the mouth with the goals. But then he'd have to score 50 in a season to do that.

No fucking wonder the blokes already thinking about his next club.

I didnt say he was overrated. In fact, I think the transfer fee we paid for him was a bargain.

He is a big head though. No question about that. He was thinking about his next club the day he signed for us. Maybe the old Kitson/Lita/Sidwell mentality has rubbed off a bit on him. I remmember his first interview on the radio, he scored in a JPT game, then said that he would be demanding (yes demanding) that Sturrock start him on saturday.  :)

My point about Cheltenham was that instead of holding his hands up and giving an interview about that game, he chose to give an interview about wanting to play for Liverpool. Poor old Malpas gets all the flack when players like Cox are swanning around inflating their own ego's. Football is a team game, not an individuals one and he should take some responsibility.

'No fucking wonder the blokes already thinking about his next club.' Dont make me laugh, as if he gives a fuck about what I think or any Swindon fans think.

We dont have a chant for him yet. I think we should chant 'Ego, Ego, Ego!' at him when he scores as a light hearted ribbing?

I thought the issue was we wanted to sign him but didn't offer him enough money? So was that down to Malpas not recognising talent or budget constraints imposed on him? Did he want to sign the player but was told "OK, but you can't offer him more than x" or he wanted to sign the player but not enough to match his wage demands? ie was it in his hands? Genuine question.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger

he was offered less that what the youth team players on pro contracts like Lloyd and kurt, if we offered him £300p/w he would have been delighted to sign, instead he signs for newcastle on more than 4 times what we offered plus a fat signing on fee, he would have signed here ahead of the toon, he loved it here and was really good mates with Lloyd

Title: Re: Nile Ranger

I'm sorry, but I believe that about as much as I believe Coxy loves it at Swindon, loves the fans and wouldn't want to leave us, even if a premier/championship club comes in for in.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger
Post by: pauld on Thursday, November 13, 2008, 10:37:35
Cheers JPC. I can buy that actually - surely even the most deluded of young players must recognise that it's often worth taking the lower pay in the short term to get first team football, show what you can do and then get a really lucrative move a couple of years down the line. ie pretty much what Walcott did. But you didn't answer my original question - was the offer wholly down to Malpas or was that all he was allowed to offer? As you implied in the original post that it was because Malpas didn't rate him, in which case why make him an offer at all?

re: not signing Ranger.

I guess you have to put it against the context of having Corr, Paynter, Cox, Sturrock and Peacock as a pool of strikers and more pressing priorities and only a limited budget to play with. With hindsight it may be the wrong call, but you can sort of see how it happened if not everyone was convinced by him at the time.

Absolutely superb, rapid, great touch and not afraid to have a go from range.

I saw him for Villa reserves at Underhill earlier in the season and he tore them to shreds. Next year might be a massive one for him. Jack Rodwell really impressed aswell, captained the side from central midfield.

Off to Loftus Road tonight to watch Kieran Gibbs for the U20s v Italy, looking forward to seeing how Fabian Delph gets on.

I might go and watch Newcastle United reserves on Monday night (I have little else to do) and see how good this Nile Ranger chap we've gone on about all season long is.

More a comment on the quality of Newcastle than Mr Ranger himself. However, Jamie Slabber tore up the Tottenham youth team, so he's not exactly proven yet.

Probably would have been worth a contract in hindsight, but there you go.

i did sat the last the last i heard was a few months ago (before any injury) and was told he had been struggling for a while, so im talking roughly about 4months ago which was what i was told. On the bench but never used as hes no where near ready, hes just making up the numbers on the bench, cant see him staying up there for long. i can see him being loaned out the start of next season and be sold next season aswell

Title: Re: Nile Ranger

The plight of Tozer sounds a lot like the plight of the other star prodigy defender we sold to Spurs....Leigh Mills.

I have to admit I was never much of a fan of Tozers, and am still shocked that Newcastle paid good money for him.

Morrison looks a much better prospect IMO.

No, Leigh Mills is a free agent having been released by Spurs after a loan spell at the Gills.

If recent reports are true then Newcastle will be taken over soon. I cant see Ranger playing for them and doubt they would loan to another championship team so lets try and get him on loan.

Title: Re: Nile Ranger
Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, July 6, 2009, 23:34:52
Depends how many strikers they'll have left though DRS. Owen's gone, Viduka's gone, Martins has 4 clubs looking at him so he'll be gone later.

That leaves Xisco and Ameobi plus the reserves. If he's been playing well in the reserves they may want to keep him there for a bit.

The loan window is open for longer isn't it? Or have I remembered my rubbish football rules wrong?

No, he's actually playing really well. Set up the goal, and has been at the centre of most of Newcastles attacks. I've never seem him play before, but he looks like he could be a good prospect!

no, for an 18 year old, he is playing very well, only critisism i have is he needs to be a bit greedy at times, hes had chances to shoot from the edge of the box but instead decides to lay it off.
Apart from that, he looks a great potential, pace, strength, a very good understanding of the game
