Mascherano deserved that, what a pleb. Runs right across the pitch to argue with the referee over an incident where he wasn't even close enough to know what happened. And it was the third or fourth time he'd argued with the ref.

Totally agree, a bit of common sense should have been used by Liverpool.  He seemed very quick to get out the second yellow.  How many times have you see the whole United team surround a ref to get their own way.  Let's hope that all refs are now going to be consistent and send off all the dissenters.

The sending off was about time, respect for refs needed at ALL levels

Andy Gray is an absolute cunt. If you watch his stupid boring shows he does on Sky Sports all he does is argue against whatever the ref has given.

Match of the Day has just shown Mascherano shout 'Fuck Off' at the ref 4 seperate times. And one time where he wagged his fingers 2 inches off his face. Rafa Binetez is a fool as well for defending him because as I said, its just been shown on national TV that he had 4 separate occasions where the ref could have already sent him off.

Lost a LOT of respect for Rafa Benitez watching that interview. Yes they lost the game because they were 10 men. But they lost it because Mascherano had no self discipline.

Footballers are just making a parody of themselves this week. It will be easy for the FA to justify points deductions in the summer. I doubt the Premiership will sanction it though.

Mascherano is a disgrace.  The sending off was nothing more than he deserved.  Unfortunately, the FA are unable to bring in any serious reforming measures without the agreement of the Premier League (who, no doubt, think that player histrionics add to the appeal of the 'product').

I'd make the lot of them watch the whole of this year's Six Nations fixture list, back to back, until they learn how to respect the decisions and authority of a referee.

I agree with the vitriol aimed towards Andy Gray. He was moaning about Drogba taking off his shirt, and then going into the crowd ("which infringement did he get booked for?") and implying that DD should have been sent off, yet earlier on he said the ref who sent off Mascherano should have shown a bit of common sense.

He is way way way past his sell by date.

Mascherano is an arse and thoroughly deserved the second yellow - you could see it coming like a cavalry charge coming blaring over the hill with trumpets sounding. Yet he still seemed intent on provoking Bennett at every available opportunity. It was pure inflated egomania and Benitez should be ashamed of himself for defending him. Mascherano should start every game on a yellow anyway just for the League of Gentlemen dentistry.
