Am off to Notts Lancs tomorrow, and then to Trent Bridge again next Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Hopefully rain wont ruin the group stages

Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: larwood on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 18:49:52 Noticed there was some trouble at the usually serene and lovely Southgate during the Middlesex- Hampshire game Monday :o
http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/countycricket2007/content/story/299666.html Even more shocking Middlesex won the game  Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: larwood on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 18:50:12 Double posts  So i'll have a rant :D about Sussex CCC and their policy of not giving refunds for cancelled 20/20 games, bit annoying really considering the tickets cost £15 each.Still waiting on my refund from the Leeds test match too, bloody Yorkies extracting the last little bit of interest for the month, least i hope thats what it is
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Spud on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 05:31:15 Nice to see Gloucestershire spank Somerset yesterday and hopefully we can get another win next Wednesday night against them when me and Give_Us_N_Us head down to Brizzle. 8)

Last time I reclaimed (Edgbaston, a couple of years ago) it was a couple of months at least - "admin difficulties and sheer volume of claims" blamed. Well, obviously, everyone would be claiming you halfwits ! Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: larwood on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 08:21:14 The blurb on the back of the tickets said if we haven't recieved the money by the 29th July to write in again so there is still some time to go.Still its annoying having to wait.
I seem to be a bit cursed with any cricket that isn't in London,go to Leeds,it rains,go to Brighton it rains :( Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: fatbury on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 08:48:08 its just rainin bloody everywhere thats the problem ...

Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: mexico red on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 16:11:02 its not just sussex every county is the same, if you are a member you get your money back if you are a non member you get to go to another game which is not 20-20.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: blinkpip on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 19:00:55 England are terrible. Why didn't we pick a 20/20 sqaud. :x
I find it hard watching England one day cricket. Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 19:49:19 we weren't that bad
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:15:56 We've just been battered by a west-indies side that just last week were thrashed by derbyshire.

Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:18:49 Maybe not a battering, but in 20-20 its still a heavy defeat
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:20:03 hardly!
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:21:59 The only problem I think we had was Cook and Prior not starting quickly enough. In 20/20 you've got to make use of the first 3 overs when the field are in.
Like Graeme Hick for Worcs against Glos the other night, hit about 35 off the first 3 overs. Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: lebowski on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:27:03 cook isn't even a good one day player so i don't know why he's being selected to play twenty20 cricket.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Scot Munroe on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:39:34 should of played the king of 20/20 Darren Maddy. Mal Loye should have got a chance.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 20:45:06 nixon, broad, hollioake, gough. If we took 20/20 serious, and played specialist 20-20 players, then we'd be one of the best 20-20 team in the world.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: mexico red on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 22:01:16 prior got 25 off 16 balls, that seems pretty quick to me?
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: hansgruber on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 22:04:14 We were shit. Atmosphere at the ground was pretty poo as well.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: mexico red on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 22:05:27 we got 190 odd pretty good 20-20 score.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 22:18:29 Quote from: "mexico red" prior got 25 off 16 balls, that seems pretty quick to me? prior is exactly the type of player yuo need in 20/20. county experience and an agressive batsman. no point wasting time with someone like cook, a talented batsman in the longer form of the game but doesn't score fast enough for 20/20. we didn't bowl terribly well but then monty should never have been left out, chasing a score of 200+ was always going to be tough and given our slight collapse we did well to get within 20 odd runs of it Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 23:13:56 tbh 20-20 games are almost a lottery in some ways. there is never a clear favourite and we didn't lose by that many in the end. you have to have a slow bowler in there though. they are vital in this form of the game
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: hansgruber on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 23:15:43 That's what I was saying - we play loads of 20/20 games in England, we know spinners win games, yet we only play Yardy who basically bowls medium pacers anyway. Nuts.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 23:38:17 Quote from: "hansgruber" That's what I was saying - we play loads of 20/20 games in England, we know spinners win games, yet we only play Yardy who basically bowls medium pacers anyway. Nuts. yes. the pace is the key thing. if you can get some quick bowlers to begin with and then slow it down with a spinner it often gets the batsmen into a false sense of security and they succomb to the variation. i think the stats may show that most 20 20 games are won by slow bowlers Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Spud on Friday, June 29, 2007, 05:28:02 Cook should never be playing in these 2 20/20 games, he's far too slow and you can't fuck about playing yourself in especially after the score the West Indies made.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Foggy on Friday, June 29, 2007, 14:50:58 Its 20/20 for fucks sake,Its a laugh and fun to watch, just take it for what it is.

Thanks for clearing that up. It's still a competitive game that fans pay money to go and watch. Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: reeves4england on Friday, June 29, 2007, 16:56:49 Shame we couldn't have won but like Rich says, it's a bit of a lottery. Also agree that slow-scoring batsmen are not suited to the game, and you definitely do need a bowler who can go in and really slow down the run rate, which is obviously usually going to be a spinner.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: Scot Munroe on Friday, June 29, 2007, 20:27:58 2nd game was good to listen to at work. Windies made 169-7 off their 20 overs. England won by 5 wickets with Shah making 55 of 35 and with 3 balls to spare.
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: axs on Friday, June 29, 2007, 20:41:41 the run chase was close enough to be entertaining, shah did well
Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: lebowski on Friday, June 29, 2007, 22:44:50 what is interesting is that we only hit 1 maximum in our innings and still got to a relatively testing total of 173.
going forward i'd like to see james benning come in to replace cook as an opener. he's somewhat of a twenty20 specialist. he'll give the bowlers some stick, and is a better fielder than cook too. Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: sonic youth on Friday, June 29, 2007, 22:53:54 we just need a couple more big hitters. prior, pietersen and collingwood appear to be the only individuals who play aggressive cricket.
trott did nothing of note in either of his innings, cook simply doesn't suit 20/20 but is worth persuing in the 50 over game, mascheranhas seems to have enough in his locker and shah provides a useful anecdote when slogging isn't an option. someone like loye or ramprakash might be worth drafting in for the world cup. i'm not sure the game has the longevity to last another four years in fairness... benning is obviously worth a shout, no questions Title: 20/20 Cricket Post by: mexico red on Saturday, June 30, 2007, 03:25:39 i have said it before stick in luke wright, admitedly he was shit tonight but benning werent much better.
