Title: Holiday
Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 12:16:29
I'm looking to book a holiday in the summer but am sure where to go.

Its either NYC or a beach holiday. the dollar is so high against the pound (double) that America is very tempting. But is very expensive to get there.

On the other hand she wants a beach holiday somewhere like Cyprus. She wants a holiday without all the 'English Breakfasts, Red Lions,' a typical British resort.

Help!

Also is it worth waiting to book it last minute to get a better deal?

Fuertenventura is beautiful and not your Typical English resort like Benidorm.

I stopped in Corrolejo.

NYC is ace - but at the height of Summer will be scorching - it was very warm in may last year - really humid.

IMHO a nice compromise is Barcelona - fantastic city, but with a beach too, and because it's a big city it avoids the costa del arsehold vibe of many places.

The mrs has always wanted to go to NYC. and because of the exchange rate it seems an ideal time to go. But it will be in August.

Ralphy, is that part of the canaries?

Yes it's just south of Lanzarote.

Beautiful island with amazing sand dunes.

I think Sam went there last summer too?

Rhodes is nice but it can't match the beauty of Fuertenventura.

I'm going to Exeter in a few weeks. Not sure that counts as a holiday after I lived their for 4 years.

Haven't had a holiday for years. From the ages of 16-18 I always preferred the prospect of a free house for 2 weeks. Then when I was a student I could never afford it.

I did indeed. It's lovely out there.

The Brits are just starting to take over some areas, but like Raplhy said Correlejo is really nice and not too busy.

Which is less for the L&P beer fund, so when I can't buy you a beer against Walsall you'll know who to blame.

Still haven't booked the time off work yet so it's touch and go, but hopefully they'll be nice to me. Probably doesn't help that I'm posting on here when I'm supposed to be working :D

I went two years ago (Kavos).  Drinks were piss-take cheap (one bar - 5 euros, all the shots we could handle).  The holiday was amazing, except waking up in the middle of the street in my boxers one morning....  or waking up in a club with a rep pissing in my open mouth...   :|

This year it's Bulgaria.... 50p a pint, c'mon!!   8)

I'd sit tight. Some point soon a company called Zoom is going to do one way flights to NYC for £169, Ryan Air is also to start doing it soon and they are claiming they may be able t do it for under £10!

plus you'd have to pay for each item of baggage, and for everything you eat and drink, and you'd probably end up watching very shit films (if any at all). it's worth paying a bit more for the long haul - i got to watch a pre-release "sideways" when i went to thailand.

last summer the holiday companies had loads of holiday packages left unsold (mostly because of threats of terrorism, war, and low consumer confidence. also; hot uk summer) which meant they had to shift them very cheaply as last minute deals. this time around they've bought far less holiday packages to reduce their risk, which means there are unlikely to be so many great deals this summer.

if you really fancy something in particular then i'd book it asap before it's gone.

Tell me about it, i WAS going to go to NYC this year, but being a bit reluctant to spend proper sums of money to go to a city where i'll get told off for smoking and have fat people in my face doesn't sit well with me!

I'll wait till i can travel pikey rates and then stay in a suite at the Waldorf pretending i have more than 20p in the bank. Could be a good Return on Investment.  8)  :shag:

How come Fatbury is the object of everyone's piss taking and taunting? Exactly what did he do to become the STFCJeffery of thetownend? I mean STFCJeffery was a total cunt repeatedly, so kind of deserves the shit he gets. Is it purely because he pretends he isn't STFC Bart?

No it's because he talks a load of shit and is generally quite annoying.

Apart from that he's OK. In small doses.  8)
