Title: Handball outside the area
Post by: singingiiiffy on Thursday, February 16, 2006, 09:59:31
Can anyone clear up why the goalkeeper wasn't sent off for deliberate handball outside the area?

what is the exact rule?

from the burton v man u game when the burton keeper handballed it there wasn't a player remotely near the ball yet they said under the letter of the law he had to go.

with the gills game ricky shakes was closing down on the goal?

Different angle and by the time shakes had got into a goal scoring position the defender chasing back would have covered.  Law says that is a yellow card.

had the gills keeper handled in the "D" on the edge of the box, then theres no doubt he would have walked. As it was he only deserved a yellow as it was not a "clear goalscoring opportunity"

Even in front of goal, i wouldn't call Shakes running through a 'clear goalscoring opportunity'...

Quote

Sending-Off Offences
A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the
following seven offences:

1. is guilty of serious foul play
2. is guilty of violent conduct
3. spits at an opponent or any other person
4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity
by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a
goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
5. denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving
towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick
or a penalty kick
6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
7. receives a second caution in the same match

No. 6 makes for interesting reading. how many players should have been sent off under that rule.

I like rule number 4 the best

"(this does not apply to a
goalkeeper within his own penalty area) "

I think they should make a point of pulling them up on this more often.

Before the start of the season the FA came out and said that any player dishing out abusive language to the match officals will be Red Carded, i havent seen anyone sent off for this.  :?

I think the refs all deserve it. If they wernt all so incompetant then players wouldnt give them so much shit. They are all cunts, its just a question of how big, sweaty and fishy that cunt is :x

and yes I have fallen foul of this rule several times in my somewhat chequered disiplinary record in amater football :D
