Iffy speaks:

"It just wasn't working.  The production company wanted more access than we were able to give."

The agreement was ended due to "irreconcilable differences".

"It was my decision."

Iffy's relationship with Big Ron was "contrived" and on Ron's part "for the cameras".  He said he "did not know him any more after the end of filming than at the start".

The contract was supposedly worth £100,000 between the film company and STFC, but this was never signed and no assurances were given.

The film company are going to try something with another club, possibly Peterborough.

You should be able to download the whole interview from bbc.co.uk as part of the Sportsweek mp3 download (when it's ready).

Shame as we needed the money - but Iffy needs to be allowed to do his job and keep us up, with no interruptions...

I'm sure survival is worth more than 100k

Shame about the money/it not working it. But football comes first, end of.

Good interview Iffy.

Good summary.
Sounded to me like Iffy thought the filming of him and Ron talking on the way to/at the Swansea game on Friday night was contrived situations ... done for the camera rather than the camera just following natural events.

Think this is it....I listened to it in Real Player, so could  set it about 38 mins in where the bit is.

Sounds like a sensible decision by Iffy, if it isn't working, then there's little point continuing, particularly as no contract had been signed. I'm a little disappointed, as i would have loved to see what the players and staff are like behind the scenes, but as some of you have said, our fight against relegation should come first

iffy comes across as such an intelligent, articulate bloke. compare him to the likes of king and mcmahon who were thick, ignorant twats and it makes me realise how lucky we are to have iffy. i think he's going to be a really top manager and will one day be in the prem

Cheers Reggie!

Veru interesting.  I agree with Boeta.  It makes a nice change to have a 'gaffer' who can string a few sentences together. Can you imagine King using the term 'irreconcilable differences'?????

The money could of been useful but Iffy has made a decision and I respect him for that. He is a intelligent man and I'm sure he has made the right decision. Tbh I was never that keen on the whole thing to get big ron involved. Yeh it would of been great to see the behind the scenes events at your club but It all seemed very false.
Its not like we are at a low point away, we are now crawling back up the table and everyones confidence is high. More important things to worry about now.
Bye big ron  :D  You reds

You have to say fair play to the club as well for going along with Iffy on it - they could have over-ruled him for the sake of the dosh, but have decided to back him (although it sounds like the contract with the TV co wasn't fully sorted) yet. Fair play.

News of the Screws has Big Ron in hospital at the moment.  Quite serious as well.

Seems like a good move to be honest though.

I'm looking forward to staying up more than watching some piss-poor documentary about how we went down. Priorities.

And if we stayed up then the documentary wouldn't have been about us going down and could've been very entertaining. It's a shame.

I think after fallon going and not spending any cash iffy could make a decision.

Fair play and he has us staying up, I am certain of it

For those who haven't seen this yet, yesterday's Mail on Sunday had an interesting snippet that may explain some of the "back-story" to all this. (Quoting Andrew H's post)
Quote

Interesting snippet in Ian Ridleys column in the Mail on Sunday today talking about the documentary obviously before it was known it was being shelved.

According to Ridley, Iffy was talking to a "lower league striker" about a move in the transfer window but didnt follow up the call so the striker called him and was told that Atkinson had signed Trevor Benjamin from Peterborough.

Ridley was, maybe still is, heavily involved at Weymouth, and knows Steve Claridge well from that, so possibly he is the "lower league striker". In any case, its an interesting story. Could be there is more to this than has been said so far.

Yes, Iffy was interested in a couple of strikers, (and I cannot pass any comment on your speculation Paul!), but Ron did make a couple of suggestions to Iffy after the Southend game, one of which was Trevor Benjamin. Ron contacted Barry Fry, who subsequently contacted Iffy to confirm the player was available and, eventually the deal was done. I can confirm that Iffy definitely wanted to bring Trevor in, once we realised he was available and what the deal entailed.

Not mine, Mark, quoting someone else. But thanks for clearing it up anyway. So, things are a little less orange round the County Ground now then?

im assuming that sky weren't interested in a club performing well and looking like they won't be in trouble. thats why they were here in the first place, to film a club they thought were crap.

rons help isn't needed so its no programme for them if ron doesn't do anything. simple as.

thats why there probably gonig to p'boro, there even more in the shit, i bet the team they pick is low in either league 1 or 2, so ron can look good again.

if we didnt sell fallon for a good amount we may have had to keep this i think..also they wanted iffy microphoned up at half time etc so fuck that ..well done though stfc thinking of the team not the £££s for once..well done

Erm, Posh are currently 6th in League 2. I suspect the attraction there is having lots of "Ron Manager" style joshing between Ron and Bazza. God, it'll be like a re-run of "Walking with Dinosaurs".

6th really? thats surprising. well, they have no money or anything.

the whole point is ron getting involved. he wasn't going to be at swindon, simple as.
