Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: yeo on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:16:19 Quote POPULAR Swindon nightspot Soda could be set for a new lease of life after being put up for sale by its current owner. Stephen Reid, who also owns the Brunel Rooms in the town centre, has called time on the Old Town property to concentrate on other business interests. Mr Reid's father, Bill, bought Soda, formerly Vadims, in 1976 and established it as a regular haunt for hundreds of Swindon revellers. And it is the nightclub's strong reputation which is already making it an attractive proposition to potential investors. Anthony Alder, director of AG&G, the surveyors handling the sale, said: "It has been in the same ownership for 30 years and the owner wants to look to do other things. It is a lively little business. It can be used as a late-night bar or pub and has lots of potential. There has been very strong interest already, but there has been no target date set for best offers." Soda can hold 360 partygoers and has the added benefit of a new licence which would see it open from 11am until 6am. As well as a nightclub, it is also a thriving live music venue. And clubbers are keen to see it remain that way when it comes under new ownership. On hearing that Soda is for sale, Chris O'Connell, 26, of Copse Avenue, Stratton, said: "Soda is a good place for indie bands to play and always has a good mix of people. "It's just a pity it is not busier, although having a late licence will mean more people attending." Fellow clubber Michael Short, 29, of Hawkswood, Covingham, said: "I remember when it used to be Vadims. Me and my mates would pile in there on a Sunday night. Back in those days it was a little rough around the edges." I will be your manager :D Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Asher on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:19:23 Its got massive potential that club, how much is it?

Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:22:14 Don't think I've ever been to soda but my housemate (who's also from Swindon) said it was the best club he'd been to in Swindon by a mile, just a bit expensive. I'd buy it myself if I had the money.

Looks about the same size as Moloko in Cardiff, that place is always rammed and Swindon is desperately in need of something like that. I notice that nomoreheroes off of here is playing there soon. http://www.sodaswindon.com/NMH-10Feb06.html Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Asher on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:28:56 iD BE VERY INTERESTED, MY BRO WANTS A BAR AND SO Do i, oh fuck it caps lock was on

Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:34:58 I'm used to £1.50 a bottle, £1.70 a pint so £2.50 a drink is expensive.
Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Onion_Jimbo on Thursday, January 12, 2006, 21:36:40 I reckon the rent and stuff is too expensive for it to make any money. They have loads of decent nights there but nobody seems to go there. Lots of better places close by unfortunately.

Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: Luci on Friday, January 13, 2006, 14:24:59 Soda is really nice however the downstairs bit is really really dingy. overall though its great for old town as its a couple of minutes from pretty much every bar.
Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: mattboyslim on Friday, January 13, 2006, 14:25:39 I went there once and it was terrible, maybe I chose a bad night, but £3 a pint to be subjected to offensive rap music, and loads of bad attitude fueled knobs wasn't my idea of fun. Then again I never knew it played indie and had live bands.
Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: fatbury on Friday, January 13, 2006, 14:28:13 Hmmm new business opportunity!
Bet the other clubs are owned by Johnny Allen .. maybe not! :? Title: Mex please can you buy this Post by: mattboyslim on Friday, January 13, 2006, 14:30:29 There are certainly rumours of non competitive forces in play amongst the clubs/bars in old town, to try and prevent certain other establishemnts extending and opening from what I've heard.

You'd be right there. Even food outlets near to where students live make a lot of cash. One of the unis in Bristol have just put up about 5 big student halls all out of townish with not much on site. A kebab shop or something similar by it would make loads.
