Andy Hessenthaler put a bendy straw in Sonics ear and by all accounts, it bloody hurt.

We've not got on ever since really.

It's clearly a local rivalry, Gillingham appears to be a lot further away than it actually is because London is in the way but if you're coming from Gillingham London isn't in the way so it's only 20 miles meaning we are there closest rivals.

You'll find that most Gills fans would sooner get the bus to Charlton.

Fatbury - it doesn't have anything to do with the playoffs...

It goes MUCH further back than that....

It all kicked off in '79 (i think) when there was trouble with the players at the County Ground.  Ray McHale was involved for us - ended up with 2 Gills players in court on the Monday following the game !!

The playoffs were just another excuse for them to get beaten again by us !!

A couple of interesting articles on the Gillingham mad website.

Boils down to defeats, having fences erected at priestfield and having players arrested on assault charges.

The real question is why do they STILL hate us.
The simple answer is when you live in pikeyland there is nothing better to do. No local team to hate. Life is shit. Focusing on hating us somehow detracts from the tedium and gives their life purpose.

Personally I hate lots of teams more than the Gills. Most of the Northern ones because they are far away.  And the Welsh ones for being Welsh. And Brighton for post playof taunting and being bummers.

But it is funny seeing them getting wound up about us.

Fucking hell, just did a search on thetrainline.com, quickest time is 3 and half hours and 3 changes. Have to go into and back out of London.

It's only an hour and a bit in the car!

I might have to drive and stay sober :|

I searched too - I got it at £35 return from swindon.  By car according to the AA (put Priestfields postcode in) it says 3 hours from chelt? Take it it has to be at least 40 mins quicker from swindon?

train changes are Victoria and Paddington aren't they?

yes but the point I was making is that its £15 MAX wherever - not just in the cheapest area of the ground.  I wouldn't say that was particularly shit?

No idea why they hate us. Lets face it if it was worth hating us over we would probably give something back.

If it is to do with their players going to court then why the hell is it our fault? Their players were the dirty bastards who went to court, not us Town fans!
