Yeah i thought he had an alright game. He made a few good tackles and when he lost the ball, he fought back and won it. His distribution is terrible though.

but....really it shouldnt be the defenders job to distribute it. Ideally the midfield drop back and take the ball off the defenders. How often do you see the likes of Campbell, Terry, Ferdinand etc hoofing it forward, they just roll it forward to Gilberto, Makelelelelele, Fletcher etc

Yeah true. And surely the defenders should be able to play the ball out rather than punt it up field. But again that leads onto your point of the midfielders needin to drop back.

he's fucking gash! i've defended the bloke in the past but today just took the piss, he made a couple of good tackles and at least one of those was after he missed a header and let a player get past him.

as for his distribution, why can't he just pass the ball short? he doesn't have to hoof it and it's not as if he NEVER has options.

His job as a defender is to stop players getting past, which he did well yesterday. If he could do that and distribute it well, he wouldn't be playing for town. Why do you chodes compare his to England players, we're in League One for fuck's sake!

Fair point VD, but the fact is this is basement League One football. get used to it. Say what you like about Ifil he made two goal-saving tackles that no-one else would have the bollocks to dive in for.

Ifil is the worst defender we've ever had. He only makes saving tackles from his own errors. Terrible distribution, no vision , weak as piss. Andy King has a lot to answer for.

exactly.

he fucking terrifies me when he makes those mindless lunging tackles, because he usually either gives away a free kick or misses the ball and player entirely. yes, sometimes he does make some good tackles but they're generally only because he's fucked up in the first place.

he was dire yesterday, absolutely terrible. i wouldn't even put him in the reserves.

I agree Dave I'm on Ifil side here, he defended well and made some good tackles, his distribtion is awful, but it shouldnt be his job, saying O'Hanlons distribtion is just as fucking poor, and he is a very poor captain.

Yet everyone choose to pick on Ifil the new scape goat.....

O'Hanlon was worse yesterday.

totally agree, i've been saying this for a while.  particually yesterday- anything good he did was cleaning up his own mistakes

Agreed, like that tackle he did just as the Blackpool striker was going through on goal, he was totally out of position and made a great tackle after his own fuck up.

O'Hanlon was just as bad though.

it's not as if they're all dead though. you make it sound as if we have no other options and we've got plenty.

i'd rather see alan reeves with a broken leg in defence than jerel ifil.

When ifil first arrived on loan he played full back.  I remember the game at Mansfield and every cross hit the stand behind the goal.  I couldn't ever see him doing anything.  As the loan spells racked up he got better though.  As a stopper he is OK, but error prone, nobody complained because at the likes of Shaun Taylor for his inability at passing.  What we need is a midfielder to drop off and take the ball short from the CBs and then go wide or forward with it.

Jerel did OK today, and has had excellent games recently, like Port Vale, he was dropped last week and lucky to be back in the side this weekend, and although his distribution is poor it might have something to do with th lack of options, tbh I wouldn't eally play a short pass to pook or McDermott in midfiled if they had their backs to goal, as the odds are in favour of them turning straight into trouble and losing the ball in a key area.  It's the same as the throw ins, a total lack of movement and options inhibits any quality play, as fallon is often the only one who tries to move the ball gets hit at him wherever he is.

I thought he played ok this weekend .. whereas Sean O Hanlon was AWFUL .. looked unfit .. made poor judgement and was second to practically every ball
