Title: Steve Robinson on his way poor chap....
Post by: Dazzza on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 00:55:43
Quote
Imps midfielder, Steve Robinson has started that he thinks his Lincoln career is already over after just 70 minutes. Injury stopped the midfielder from playing for the first 2 months but he made an impressive debut against Stockport but he hasn't even made the bench since.

Robinson was a pre-season signing from Swindon Town and Keith Alexander was delighted to sign the experienced midfielder, however, the Imps hampered his season, however, he went straight into the first team when he recovered from his injury, only to be dropped again for no apparant reason.

"When you are fit and not getting on the bench you know it's not looking good," said the 31-year-old, who is out of contract next summer. I feel my career at Lincoln is dead and buried - a non-starter. But the most frustrating thing is that I don't know why. I have not fallen out with the manager, Keith Alexander and I am not unfit, yet don't seem to be involved and no explanations are given," a puzzled Robinson said to the Echo.

"Maybe I don't fit in with the style of play. But when I look back to the game against Stockport we played well and I thought I did OK. I enjoyed it. I got the ball down, found space and kept things simple but after that I wasn't involved. Since then we haven't won at home and even though we have been struggling I haven't had a look in. All I want to do is play football and that's why I went to Worksop because I was frustrated with my lack of chances at Lincoln City."

City haven't particully struggled in midfield with players such as Dean Keates and Scott Kerr doing well, however, the lack of Robinson on the bench does make it puzzling considering Keith only usually makes 1 substitution a game. The 31 year old admits that he is starting to consider his future after agreeing a 2nd month on loan at Worksop but his never say never attitude will please many Lincoln fans.

"I'm no Glenn Hoddle and I'm not as young as I used to be, but I will give everything if Lincoln want me to play," said Robinson, who has scored once for Worksop. If Keith wants to use me I will fill in anywhere and give 100 per cent - and he knows that. I think I offer the side experience and use a bit of nous when I am on the ball. But I need to be given a chance to play and that hasn't happened."

Only time will tell if Robinson will get a decent chance in the team but it seems like he's turning into another Cairan Toner (minus the racist arguments part).

Bit odd why he's been cast aside like that.  Hard to tell how he's come back from the injury last season but I'd have thought old Turbo is certainly good enough for a punt at league two.

Shame if he's put out to pasture at Worksop.

That's a shame, if he's fit he could be an asset at that level.  I know he had a loan at Worksop Town but obviously did him no good.  Guessing that he wants to stay in theEast Midland unless Notts COunty want him myab ehe could go to Burton?

Surprising to hear too, and he's a really nice guy and always seemed to give 100%

I always liked him. Two reasons- he always gave 100% and he scored 2 mighty goals against the scum! So he made my day!  :D

Sounds like Alexander has been to the Andy King coaching school, i.e signing a player, selecting him for one game then consigning him to the srap heap.

Hopefully he we will get himself sorted out with a Conerence club or something.

I hoped there would be a happy ending for Robinson at Lincoln.

Shame.

Seconded, he'd have been useful with Whalley and Migs being injured...
Hope he finds something that gets him back, cos he seems committed and was a strong player (although not brilliantly technically gifted)

can't fault his effort, for football though he wasn't that great but was better to have than hewlett.

Yeah I would agree 100% with that Johno. He worked hard - mainly because he gave the ball away all the time and had to win it back - but he was miles better than Poolet.

He wasnt the best player but at least he showed some fight unlike some of our Midfielders this season.

And his 2 goals against the scum at the Manor will always be remembered. :beers:

WEIRD ONE THAT. TURBO IS FAR TOO GOOD A PLAYER TO BE ROTTING IN THE STIFFS AT LINCOLN BLOODY CITY! I SECOND THE SENTIMENT THAT HE COULD HAVE DONE A JOB FOR US THIS SEASON. BAGS OF ENERGY, COMMITMENT AND EXPERIENCE, PLUS HE PROVED HE WAS VERSATILE AND DID A DECENT JOB ON THE RIGHT FLANK.

When the proposed transfer to Notts Co fell through he seemed to lose his spark-he was pretty low when I spoke to him at the last game of last season

Get him back here in January. Can't be any worse than McDermott

I don't think he'd be any use for us this season, wasn't that great really. Thought league 2 might be his level but seems he's not even good enough for that now.

Goals at oxford were good though.

Better than McDermott, scorer of two goals in the last month?

Not denying he was worth keeping though. His two goals at the Oxford tip are among my fondest memories of town

I'd happily resign turbo, he's hardworking.
