The only time it seems anythign like sensible to me, is if we were well adrift at the bottom, ie already down territory. Whilst we are very much in it, especially after saturday, we need our talisman.

Although £250k is not a bad price to be honest, considering his contract is up in the summer, 5 times more than we paid for him. If we did get an offer of that much I can't see the board rejecting it. It would put us in the shit a bit though. Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... In seriousness he might be our only saleabe asset. If he isn't willing to sign a new contract who knows.... Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Post by: pauld on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, 12:48:55 This rumour was doing the rounds at the Barnsley game. If it's true I'd assume the logic of the powers that be is if we're going down anyway, we'd better cash in on one of our few sellable players while we still can. Which kind of makes sense, but personally I'd hate to see them surrender like that. Which is what they would be doing - surrendering to relegation and totally undermining any chance Iffy might have of keeping us up.

Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, 17:34:43 But if we sell Fallon we are as good as down. What's better in the long run - 250k for Fallon or staying in this division???
It's better to be in the shit financially and be in League One than be in the shit financially and be in League Two. Plus, by selling Fallon, the Board are effectively saying our season is over, so they can't complain if only 2,500 punters turn up to hand over their hard earned for the remainder of the season. I think first team football does mean something but it's not everything. I can't see Rory signing a new contract, especially not if we're relegated but I'm not sure if he'll go in January unless we're way adrift. If he did I wouldn't expect as much as £250k though. Unless we stay up he's as good as gone. If it looks unlikely we are going to stay up come January, he will be off as we will want to cash in rather than see him go for free.
Smith is a bit of a strange situation. Many of us TEF thought city would do well this season. Yes, you never can tell, but he's hardly ended up worse off than he was here, in fact he's probably earning more money. Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Post by: mattboyslim on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 14:04:53 Quote The only one we miss who left on a free is David Duke I miss him and Helwletts constant lack of effort and endeavour, and I especially miss their ability to lose a 90/10 tackle in their favour. I actually miss the dead ball delivery of Smith, and the defensive common sense of Heywood. Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Jack Smith is as close we'll get to an almost exact Duke replacement Depends, Heywood has his purposes, ie he was good in the air, but on the floor he was a shocking donkey. If we mix Heywood and Ifil together, we'd have a good centre half We do miss Duke though, he was never a left back and its the managers fault for playing him out of position, but he was good going forward and created alot of chances for us. Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Post by: Piemonte on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 14:13:00 In some ways I agree with you more now VD. Heywood wasnt that bad on the deck, yes he hoofed it but at least he looked up then hoofed it in the vague direction of a Swindon player. Ifill just kicks it as hard as possible in the direction hes facing. Even then it tends to fly off at a 45 dgree angle.
I think we'll all agree that a combination of Heywood and Ifill would be the bollocks in this division, and possibly highrer. I also agree that duke would have looked a much better player on either wing than he did at left back. On the basis that King constantly played him at left back, and that Nicho seems to have remebered how to play football of late, we dont miss him. Title: Fallon to join Plymouth for £250k.... Post by: Batch on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 14:21:58 The exit boys weren't world beaters, but the fact of the matter is we let a lot of players go and we are much worse now.
