Title: Ground on Hold & Devlin Reaction

From the Adver.......

Quote
County Ground plans on hold
RESIDENTS near the County Ground face another wait before redevelopment plans are revealed.

At a meeting South Swindon Labour MP Anne Snelgrove, Labour representative Bob Wright and Coun Peter Mallinson (Lab, Walcot) discussed the outline proposals for the stadium redevelopment.

But they were unable to have access to the plans for the rebuild, meaning that the public consultation will be put on hold.

Mr Wright said: "The meeting was very amicable, but we've not had sight of the plans themselves. I expressed quite forcefully the need to retain green space around the stadium, which is a major concern for many residents."

Mrs Snelgrove will now be contacting council leader Mike Bawden at Swindon Council to request disclosure of details of the plan.

Mr Wright said: "Once we have access to the plans we will be able to issue a survey to residents to get some feedback."

It is then hoped that a public meeting will be arranged to discuss the details of the County Ground plan.

Fair play though Devlin is onto it like a rat up a drain pipe, reaction on the official site here…….

I think I’m right in saying it’s largely Anne and Bob not being up to spec as the club have yet to actually reveal or submit any sort of planning application to date.

Although it’s a story on a hiding to nothing I think we’ll have to be keeping an eye on this pair.  They have previously  been mentioned on the Trust site a few times in reference to the preceding story in the Adver that led to the above meeting.

Look like potential point scorers.

Has anyone herd any early mumblings of discontent from the residents at this stage?

There was a feature in a local free rag, in which some Councillor called Nash had discovered that the old Shrivenham Road GWR ground was to be built on....it has been earmarked for development for at least 7 years if not longer....now you couldn't make this stuff up, but apparently he didn't know and so now thinks there shouldn't be any at the CG.

People need to be aware of the very small minded induividuals who have the future of our club in their hands.....and be very woried.

I think the club are looking for a nod from the council as to whether putting a planning application is worth it ... and these two are just playing politics.

Like Devlin keeps hammering home, refuse the application and we're in trouble.

What a complete cock. As you said Slattery has been looking to build on it since he purchased it around 1998, yet has had trouble convincing the council to allow development. As it stands ( and  has been for around five years), the whole area is desolute i.e. a totally overgrown field and a recently closed clubhouse, it seems as if the new plan on that ground will be finally given the go ahead.

As to be expected, no-one seems to have a clue what's going on...

its typical swindon, they can't tell us the truth and let us know what the hell is going on at our club. it isn't just this, but this is the biggest thing going on, and will save our club but still the club are uncertain as to what to do.

The club is screwed as the council know NOTHING about anything and don't realise the football club brings revenue to the town.
