How much is the insurance on your beloved type-r, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm after a new motor. Either the type-r, golf gti/r32, or the new astra vxr...

I'd choose any of those but the new shape Golf.  They've ruined a classic, IMO

You can get a two year old one for about 16k. Insurance is £686.

Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, November 3, 2005, 15:44:30
for 20K you could get a jag e type, or any modern and scarcely used exec cruiser like a jag, BMW or Merc, get an old 850 BMW, super quick for 20K you can get a totally mint one, much cooler than the golf.

have you looked at the Scoobies or Evo's on Jap imports??
or you not interested in those?

Post by: Sippo on Thursday, November 3, 2005, 15:49:48
Had a look at Scooby doo's but the insurance is too much. Nearly a grand for a 3 year old one.

Not too keen on imports tbh. Golf's are reliable, it looks good, should get a good deal on my car now...

I pay £1200 a year on an 05 plate Type R.

I'm 24 with 3 years NCB and a clean licence.

Type R is very expensive to insure, group 17, a Ferrari or Aston Martin is 20. That should give you an idea.

Not just the buying and insuring you have to think about mind. I pay £140 a tyre, and a set of front tyres lasts on average 9-12k miles.

It needs an oil change every 6-12k miles plus regular top ups cos of it's high reving nature. You should allways use fully synthetic oil in a Type R too, preferbly 0W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40.

I have test driven the new Golf GTi and it is a very nice car but it's a different animal to the Type R.

The Golf is a fair bit heavier and 'floats' around corners where as the Type R glides. Performance wise there is nothing between them, both do 0-60 in 6.6 secs and 0-100 in 16 secs.

For a grown up GTi with lots of toys and luxury, get the Golf.

For raw, edge of the seat thrils, get the Type R.

The Type R is a real driver's car and you have to work it but god it's fun.

Hope that helps.

I know about the tyres. I have low profiles now so cost a packet which isn't a great shock.

I'm gonna sit down go through the brochures, and get a few test drives!

Have you considered the new DC5 Integra Type R?

Has same engine as Civic Type R but with 220 bhp not 200 bhp.

Can get them brand new on import only.

I like Civic Type-R's, Golf's and I don't really mind Impreza's but that car is fucking horrid Ralph.

Might be biased as I used to work with a lad who drove one and he was such a wanker it was unbelievable.

STAY AWAY FROM THE 206 GTi 180.

Big let down.

All the car magazines slate it.

I advise you to buy a magazine called Evo.

It's the best performance car mag on sale.

Nah Sonic 'tegs are the nuts.

Real hardcore driver's car.

Tiff Needall and Clarkson love em.

You will be hard pushed to find a better handling front wheel drive car.

Renaultsport Clio Trophy

Only £13,800

182 bhp

Well, I've jsut been for three test drives. The old r32, the new r32 and a TT. Didn't like the TT one bit- a womens car in my opinion. The new r32 was a very very nice car but felt it was too plasticy, the old r32 is much nicer. More of an animal.

Going to the Honda garage soon...

Finally I can contribute to a motor thread.

I made a decision on my first motor and after much deliberation I'm getting one of these nuggets after Christmas...

http://www.coburnhoods.co.uk/graphics/cars/lotus%20elan.jpg

Only slightly tart’s car-esque and as it just scrapes in as a classic car it's cheap as chips to insure.

Jut have to fucking pass that test now.

Post by: Ralphy on Friday, November 18, 2005, 19:27:37
stfcfan, would you like an 'extended test drive' in my Type R?

When taking a dealer demo car out you never really get to explore the car's full potential.

Dazzza, nice Lotus Elan.

Rear wheel drive fun.
